Saying goodbye to my sweet Ollie at 18.5 years old was one of the hardest things I've ever faced. The team at Wine Country Veterinary Hospital met me with compassion, patience, and understanding every step of the way. I scheduled and canceled Ollie's euthanasia appointment four different times because I just wasn't ready, and they never once made me feel guilty or pressured. They even allowed me to arrive and then back out when I couldn't go through with it. That level of kindness and humanity is something I will never forget. When the time finally came, they gave Ollie such a peaceful, dignified passing, and gave me the space and support I needed. We took our cockatiel, who had a bad accident a few months ago and a beak deformation, to Wine Country Vet because we had bad experiences with other "avian" vets. They listen to us and treated the bird well. They professionally trimmed his beak (several times now) and we always got the bird back in a relaxed state. At other places we got him back bleeding or in shock. Vet and techs really seems to care for the animals and so far we have not been pressured to constantly get a checkup with the beak trimming, like in many other places. read more

I mean, could all the good reviews be true? I mean, a vet with a 4.8 rating (as of the writing of this review). Usually, you have to give vets some grace because they're dealing with sick and dying pets, and people tend to go into bad behavior when they're stressed out about their fur babies and begin rage reviewing. But clearly, they got it all down pat here! I've only been here once for a not so dire situation, but a first visit to the vet says a lot about what kind of vet they are by how much they want to gouge you. And here at WCVH, I was impressed - they didn't gouge me! I brought our new 10 year old cat here because she was peeing outside the litter box. We didn't have any medical records for her since she came from a 90 year old woman with dementia. I for sure thought I was going to walk out of there at least $500 poorer, fully expecting that they would insist on the full blood panel, vaccinations etc. But no, they did none of that! All they addressed was the peeing and did a urine analysis and exam. And that's it! AND the vet's suggestions and way she explained it was helpful to me, and I ended up figuring out kitty's pee anxiety issue. No more peeing outside the litter box! I feel super blessed that I moved somewhere where there is a vet I can trust and are in it for the right reasons. To take care of the problem at hand and charge you only for that. Sadly, it's getting more and more rare that you can find businesses that truly care. Truly provide a service without other greedy intent. We need more of that in this world. I brought my dog here a few days ago, who was recently (about 6 months ago) diagnosed with a malignant tumor. Since I just moved here I needed to find a new vet. Horrible mistake trying this place! All we came in for was an exam and checkup, upon learning of the tumor, their vet techs were extremely condescending and rude regarding our care plan for him. They were overlycritical and judgemental to my face, and when they left the room I could hear them making horribly rude comments and remarks to coworkers. Until they get new vet techs I would never recommend this place and would highly suggest looking elsewhere. Absolutely horrible experience. read more

The practice has grown over the years and everyone that works there is caring, understanding and good at working with the animals and people that they help. She always runs into things when she hunts, I having been putting a eye ointment on my cats eyes for 20 years. But now it's a prescription. Wind country just saw her and they wouldn't give me the prescription for her eye. You need to bring her in again for another office visit. What happened to the good vets? They make Tyrion (our 3 year old Shepherd Mix) feel like the only dog in the world, and he is actually HAPPY to be there (minus the whole being weighed thing, he weirdly hates the scale - go figure). I don't write reviews very often, but I love this place. My dog, Rocco, is a 100+ pd American Bully that we rescued from dog fighting in Bakersfield. He's an awesome, super sweet dog but still has some issues. The previous vet wouldn't see him unless he was drugged with a combination of their prescriptions (about $100 for meds and it took 3 pills each time). After an ear inflection, he hated going there even more and he's very persuasive. We changed vets to Wine Country Vet over by Oliver's in Windsor. The doctor sat on the floor with him, examined him, gave him his shots - no drugs needed. Rocco loves him. He does still need anxiety meds to get nails trimmed but one pill, super cheap! His allergies are under control and no one was ripping me off. They are really good at getting us in out out without problems with other animals, etc. I've had dogs all my life, I'm 59, so far this is the best vet I've come across. read more

Let me begin by saying Wine Country Vet Hospital deserves more than just 5 stars. I have had nothing but great experiences since I started going there with my pets in 2019. Most recently, I had a very sick French bulldog that was not getting any better. For 2 nights in a row, I attempted to get her into three ER vets and was turned away by all three both times due to staffing levels. I called Wine Country Vet Monday morning, and they advised me that they were fully booked. I explained to them my situation, and they stated that if I would be willing to leave her there all day, they could squeeze her in. Dr. Sheehy was awesome, along with all of the staff!! You ignored every concern about my guinea pig's whining at every visit. You wouldn't do an x-ray when I asked because I suspected he had bladder stones. And then you refused to see him for an emergency visit when he was urinating blood and had soft stool and wasn't eating. You told your front desk person to tell me it was dietary. I know my pets. You have no business treating exotics when you ignore all the signs and symptoms of common issues they have AND disregard every one of their owners valid concerns. Shame on you and this practice. I had to take him to an emergency animal hospital weeks after his last visit with you where you refused to x-ray him or give him an ultrasound only to find that he does in fact have a bladder stone. All that unnecessary pain you put my guinea pig through because you don't know **** about small animals. read more

I have no excuse for not writing a review sooner, as Dr. Klein is quite simply the most wonderful, competent, compassionate, and trustworthy vet I've ever had the pleasure to visit. She exudes a palpable warmth that puts both animals and their owners at ease. I've met plenty of vets who love animals--few have been equally as good with the human part of the equation. Dr. Klein makes you feel heard and understood and is always willing to take the time to answer your questions or concerns about your pet's health and/or treatment plan. Dr. Klein has helped guide us through two at-home euthanasia appointments, and her patience and compassion really helped the whole family get through a very difficult experience. As far as the rest of the practice, everyone who works at Wine Country is fantastic--friendly, welcoming, social, and most importantly, super loving toward animals. When we can't see Dr. Klein, we're happy to have Dr. Sheehy as a backup. He's so sweet with our pets and always remembers his former patients and often asks after them when he sees us at the office later for unrelated reasons. I knew I liked him the first time he met our cat Willow--he immediately got down on the floor to greet her and cooed about how adorable she is. He's even affectionate in his dealings (and commentary) about our anxious, entitled, bratty little Miniature Schnauzer--the sign of a true animal lover and skilled veterinarian. :) Perhaps most importantly for a lot of people--their prices are more than fair considering the treatment your pets receive. I've also never felt pressured into spending money for treatments or tests that seem unnecessary. On the contrary, Dr. Klein is sensitive to the financial aspects of any treatment decision--I once let her know that a specific twice-daily medication would be too costly for our budget, and she was able to come up with an alternative treatment plan that kept our dog healthy at a more reasonable price. Obviously things don't always work out that way and there won't be alternatives...but it's nice to know that she's open to those kinds of discussions and is non-judgmental about the realities people face as pet owners. In conclusion--you won't find a better vet in Windsor, Sonoma County, or quite possibly even California. Trust me...we tried plenty before finding Wine Country--which is why I can't ever imagine seeing else ever again. read more

Absolutely love love love this vet office!! Our previous vet (or at least the woman we saw) was horrid. My dog had anxiety in her appointment and was prescribed medication for her next one. When we came here, it was an entirely different experience. My dog's tail wagged, she was visibly more comfortable and it was an overall fantastic experience. I love Dr. Klein. She is the most caring and compassionate vet I've ever been to. She really takes her time and genuinely cares about the animals. She is very understanding and respects my decisions to not take extreme measures/treatments with my animals. I recently had to put down one of my dogs. Took great care of our pets and as a new couple in town, that was important to us. It's great to have found a vet so quickly.

I'll start this by saying I've been a fan of Dr. Sheehy for years, in fact I followed him over to Wine Country from Larkfield when he moved over! The first time I met him with my cats he got down on the floor with them, that is so telling! My cats are Cornish Rex, so they're different & memorable but it meant so much that Dr. Sheehy remembered my girls from when they were little! We got a puppy and brought him to a different Windsor vet's office and were just not happy with the care and advice we were getting from them. I work at a kennel and many of our clients used Wine Country and Dr. Sheehy was there, so we were quick to switch over after our pup got neutered there! (Our original vet in windsor didn't do surgeries...) It was meant to be that our dog, Kevin, is name twins with the Doctor!! We are so happy with the customer service of everyone we've spoken to and all of the techs have been so sweet, especially in the time of Covid! I would recommend this vet to anyone! I am so happy to have found Wine Country Veterinary Hospital for Sebastian, our 6 1/2 year old Maltese. We moved to Calistoga from San Francisco where we had received excellent care at Irving Pet Hospital since Sebastian was 9 weeks old and we were very disappointed after a visit to another local vet clinic right near our house. Luckily, I did some research and discovered WCVH. Sebastian is a nervous reck at the vet but Emily and Dr. Sheehy sat on the floor with Sebastian and took their time to get to know him as he slowly calmed down. Both were excellent at communicating with me and clearly had read his records from the previous vet. Everything was covered during our initial visit and all of my questions were answered with professionalism and respect. Needless to say I scheduled Sebastian's much needed dental cleaning with Dr. Sheehy.
