DO NOT go here if you value your natural hair!…read more I am beyond disappointed with the service I received at this Dominican beauty salon. I brought my daughter and myself in for a shampoo and silk press. I specifically chose this salon because it is known for handling natural hair. The first appointment went well--our hair looked silky, smooth, and beautiful. In fact, it lasted longer than usual. At the time, I thought they just did a really good job. However, things quickly took a turn. I am a licensed cosmetologist, and though I no longer work behind the chair, I know hair and I know chemicals. After a couple of weeks, I went to wash my own hair and immediately smelled relaxer. I tried to brush it off, thinking I was overreacting--but as my hair dried, I knew something was wrong. My natural curls were gone in places--one side of my head still had curls, the other side was limp and straight. This is a classic sign of chemical damage. My daughter's hair started shedding too. Her curls are also not the same, and we are both now dealing with severe breakage. It's a well-known concern in the Black hair community that some Dominican salons secretly mix relaxers into shampoos to make the hair easier to press. Let me be clear: this is not only unethical--it's dangerous. At no point was I told a relaxer would be used. There was no consultation, no consent, and more importantly, no neutralizing afterward. Just conditioner and heat styling. This is a recipe for long-term damage, and it shows. To the stylists at this salon: you had no right to alter the structure of my hair or my daughter's without consent. You've caused irreversible damage to our natural hair, and that is not something I take lightly. I am in the process of filing a formal complaint with the State Board, and I am also consulting a lawyer. If this has happened to anyone else, I urge you to speak up. This kind of negligence must be held accountable. Natural hair does not need to be chemically altered to be beautiful or manageable. We came for a silk press--not a secret relaxer. Be cautious and protect your crown. We deserve better.

Of the three previous ones I visited, one didn't have the color I wanted, one did not have a qualified colorist, and the last one required a consultation then a week to two week before an available appointment even though a sign posted states that walkins were welcomed. I walked into Egyptian Hair Styles on Saturday, spoke with the owner, told her what I wanted, and she informed me that any of the stylists could do what I wanted and assured me they have the color I wanted. The next day, Sunday, I did a walkin and was able to get exactly what I wanted. Both days I went, the employees greeted me promptly and was pleasant throughout my entire visit. I was seated in a chair quickly and the stylist began working on my hair. She asked what I wanted and delivered just that. To top it off, the price was reasonable. Parking is shared with other stores in the plaza, but there was plenty space available. I would definitely recommend the team here and would definitely return for and service I need.

BEWARE! CHEMICALS ADDED AT SHAMPOO BOWL!…read more I was referred to George by a very close friend who has a head full of long, natural, color-treated hair just as I do! Upon visiting, we were both thrilled at how quickly we got in and out (less than an hour) for a wash, dry, and style. We both even took our teenage daughters, too. My girlfriend first realized that something wasn't right upon washing her daughter's hair after only going to George a couple of times. She noticed the texture was straight n stringy n the back and it just didn't feel right. When washing her own hair, she also noticed the same thing and told me about it. Needless to say, when I washed my own head later (in preparation for summer knotless braids), I realized that my hair felt thinner and lighter towards the ends. So, I decided to give it a break from the heat this summer. Upon going to my main stylist, today, she initially felt my hair was ok, but would know for sure once she washed it. Upon washing it, she was upset and stated "my head is not the same head!" She informed me that they were using chemicals on our hair (e.g. relaxer) and we didn't even know it. I have been natural for over 14 years. Apparently, they add chemicals to make our natural hair more manageable, so they can quickly get us in and out. However, it totally destroys our once healthy full head of hair. I will NOT be going back, but definitely felt that I needed to provide this review to inform others as I was once sending George very high praises! Not anymore...

So i went in today with my daughter. Was asked to sign in. It was about 8 minutes later that this older woman asked us what we were getting done. I told her. She said it would be $60 each. I said online said something different & the person I spoke with said the exact same price as online. She apologized, not for trying to rip us off, but for getting "the wrong price" TWICE!! Lol we politely declined getting ripped off by a black establishment and left. I will never ever EVER go there again.

Everyone is really nice and they are truly working hard to get customers in and out. They are reasonably priced especially for the Atlanta market where basic sew-ins can easily run $200 and up so I appreciate that they are budget friendly. Here is the problem ~ every time I get my hair done by them it lasts maybe 2 weeks if I'm lucky. I got this sew-in done on 11/17 and this is what it looks like today on 11/30. My hair has completely fallen apart in 13 days. All I can say is if you need a one-time temporary sew-in to take you to an event or for an occasion then yes by all means go here. My hair looked fantastic for the event I attended on 11/21. But if you need something to last more than 2 weeks you may want to look elsewhere.
