    Korean chicken musubi
    Jessica Y.

My goal for this trip was to discover more local gems, so we stopped by Earl's on the way to the Volcanoes National Park to grab some food for lunch later in the day. These bento rolls/musubis are the perfect on-the-go meal and definitely trumps the over-priced restaurant in the park. We go the teriyaki beef roll, smoked pork roll, teriyaki beef sandwich, and korean chicken musubi. The meat-to-rice ratio is quite impressive and I'm honestly surprised they're able to fit everything in the roll. My mom was a huge fan of the sandwich, which albeit does not look that tasty but after a couple of bites we were all so surprised by how much meat was in there. Between the teriyaki beef and smoked pork roll, I actually liked the smoked pork roll better. The smoky flavor was subtle and I loved the huge chunks of pork. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. It seems like they sell out of items pretty early on so I would definitely try to stop by earlier in the day. This is a grab-and-go type of place with a portable bathroom in the parking lot. This is the perfect place to grab a quick lunch/snack!

I give this place 5 stars. First I love this style it reminds me of my childhood and grandparents. Simple local style food Musubi, chicken bento, maki sushi rolls. The flavor is how it should be for everything. The uncle that was working in there so nice and welcoming great service. I'll be coming back I like early morning it's warm and fresh.

*Spam Masubi Review* Cheap, but there was no sauce in the masubi, which tasted very dry.

We came here around noon to pick up lunch. They open super early in the morning, so there wasn't a ton of food out around lunch time. I ended up getting the somen salad. All of the toppings were really good, and the somen sauce was very flavorful. A very good light lunch!

We called in our order ahead of time for some korean chicken bento rolls. They were perfect for an early morning snack as they are pretty sizeable. They are also made to order so it tastes extra fresh. Come check it out!

I was so looking forward to dining on delicious BBQ . we had to order our meals as take out online because of young children , so we looked to order at 4:30 pm . so i went online and believe it or not I was incredulous that they were sold out of Every single BBQed Dish pork, chicken, ribs etc I was so disappointed and in disbelief That I called the restaurant and sure enough it was true! shocking for a BBQ RESTAURANT to run out of BBQ! because our hearts were set on having their food , so burgers were ordered by the family and i ordered the ONO grilled with a side of cole slaw and grilled pineapple, and O NO the fish was so tough it was difficult to cut with a knife... it was tastless and chewy ... threw away half of it ! It was not the fresh Ono I expected and love! hopefully this does not happen often !!! I understand that Restaurants have an off night sometimes ... but this was SO SAD !!! in addition there was something (maybe a spice or something on the grill ) on either the fish and/or the pineapple , that I had an allergic reaction to ! my tongue swelled and was extremely uncomfortable!!! I have never had that happen before... it is sad that the cornbread and the coleslaw were the best part if the meal! The burgers were enjoyed so that boosted my score !

Kayla gave us attentive and personal service. Scrumptious Mai Tai's, great wine choices, perfect service and fresh local foods prepared perfectly. What a treat to eat here. However, as a vegetarian, I felt like we really just had one option for our entrée. We ended up getting full off starters and sides. The only main we could really do was the mushroom pot pie. It was good and comforting, just not anything super memorable. Lastly, I don't mind spending on a nice meal, but a few things felt a little pricey for what they were. For example, the tomato and blue cheese salad with capers was $25, which felt a little steep for essentially five slices of tomato. That being said, everything tasted very fresh and the quality of ingredients was definitely there. Overall, still a good experience, especially because of the service.

Used to be consistently good, but three months ago and again yesterday--a Tuesday, not a weekend…read morenight, and early evening--there were many more diners than usual so they had to open up the room next door, a former art/antique gallery with 4-5 tables, rather dark and fusty, to seat everyone. One problem was there weren't nearly enough servers, and they hardly ever came into our room. So on our earlier visit, we were there for nearly three hours. There were two of us, both adults, with no special requests or concerns, and we shared a caprese salad, I had a glass of wine, and we each had a pasta entree. Neither of us eats really slowly. AND we had reservations. So...three hours? We sat at a bare table for half an hour before we even got silverware and napkins, but worse, although the salad was good, as usual, our entrees were uncharacteristically bad. In each each case, the pasta was ok, cooked to the right doneness, but the sauce on spaghetti bolognese" was a small amount of marinara sauce sprinkled with a few tablespoons of crumbled ground mystery meat that had no discernible seasoning, not even salt and pepper. We had noticed that the description on the menu had changed from meat sauce to marinara sauce and crumbled Italian sausage, but the meat didn't taste anything like Italian sausage. The spaghetti with meatballs was somewhat better, but the meatballs were overcooked and tough on the outside, and underseasoned. We were hoping for a better meal yesterday, and yes, we had reservations, but after being seated once again at a bare table in the auxiliary room, and waiting for 25 minutes, we were thinking we were going to get lousy service and bad food again, so we left. The only reason I'm giving the restaurant three stars is that in the past, on weekdays, when the restaurant was always, until last night, less crowded, with no overflow room required, the service and the food were much better, at least four stars. I hope the chef and other staff read this and it's a wakeup call...if you can't handle crowds, in the kitchen or in the dining rooms, limit your seating so you can do everything well, like you used to, or your regular customers like us are going to go away.
