How to do it: Drive up, park, ring bell and the window slides open. Order and hang out while your items are made by hand by a nice guy. There is no place to eat it so take it home or eat in your car. There are normal fish items, and one vegetarian roll with avo and veggies. The veggie rolls was good. One per person seems about right.

We called our order in - ready to go at 20 minutes (we had a later lunch, like 1:15 so didn't have to deal with the lunch rush & lines). Delish, refreshing, nice size portions, great value, nice customer service - food wasn't "knock your socks off" but it was good. Would def return. Took our lunch to Spencer Beach Park (1-1/2 miles away) - kicked back at the picnic tables and enjoyed the good life!

Super yummy, tasty, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside! Such a good price too!

Great spot on Kohala coast, Kona side of Big Island for delicious local takeout. Love their Korean fried chicken, very umami flavors - had mine in a fresh green salad to alleviate my guilt of eating fried (not so healthy but worth every bite!) chicken. My friend opted for their Poke bowl. We took our eats down to nearby Spencer Beach Park to enjoy the views while savoring our ono lunch.

An Ono find! We got the ahi roll, korean chicken rice bowl, and chicken Katsu bento. We were very satisfied with all 3! The ingredients were fresh and made with aloha. Good value for Ono grindz. The cashier was super kind! Good to take to the beach or eat after the beach. There is no seating available. I recommend going early before the fresh ahi runs out! Will definitely come back!

This is a little out of the way from the resorts in Waikoloa but I think it's worth your drive to get some good cheap sushi. It's a very small take out place. It is only open for a few hours a day (it closes at 2PM as of June 2022). I think there is one guy who works there. So it's kind of slow. The wait it about 15 minutes per customer. One time we had to wait about 30 minutes. Another time about 15 minutes. So it really depends on how many people are waiting for food. Stop by here and grab some sushi on your way to Hapuna beach.

Stopped here for lunch. I recommend calling in advance cuz it takes around 30-40 mins for the food to be ready and that way you're not standing around waiting. I tried the tuna sushi roll and Korean chicken bento box. Soooo yummy. One of the best lunch spots on this side of the island

A small restaurant with delicious food! The menu is pretty limited and there is also limited seating. You'll probably have to wait a while for the food to come out because only 1 man works the entire restaurant! Patience is key! I ordered: A rice bowl w/ teriyaki chicken and spicy ahi ($9.95): everything served over a bed of greens, avocado, wasabi+ginger. Teriyaki chicken actually comes fried (which I didn't like when I found out upon ordering), but the coating is actually very light and crispy! The teriyaki sauce gives it sweetness which made it more tasty. The ahi is bought from the fish market across the street so it was super fresh! I liked the spicy sauce as it wasn't heavy; 4.5/5 starts My group had a lot of people so I felt kind of bad to make him so busy haha but the food was great!

This is another one of those great Yelp finds. Kawaihae Kitchen is literally a small kitchen in a roadside strip mall with the owner making each dish by hand. They are only open for lunch with a limited menu of plate lunches and other specials. Parking can be tight since they share the location with a popular shave ice stand and a few other eateries. I arrived at the beginning of the lunch rush mid week, but was quickly told their would be a 20-30 min wait due to a bunch of phone in orders. That is usually a good sign, so I placed an order for fish & chips and explored the art gallery and other restaurants in the area. After a while, I returned and got an amazing take out order of fresh fried fish with amazing French fries, macaroni salad, and condiments. There is no real seating at the restaurant, so I took my order to the nearby Spencer Beach Park. It is a close and short option to eat by the water under a grove of shade trees. The fish was cooked perfectly with a great fresh flavor. The fries were thick and crisp with a generous portion. Even the macaroni salad was very good and homemade. This is a great option for those visiting the area. If you venture outside the tourist areas on Hawaii, you can often find gems like the Kawaihae Kitchen. You may have to tolerate some hassle compared to the bigger places catering to tourists, but this local kitchen has some amazing food that fits the location.

Incredible that this one guy can produce so much great food in such a tiny little kitchen. You need to be patient--it is a one man show and he prepares each meal with extreme care. We had the teriyaki and chicken Katy's bento boxes. They both came on a huge bed of rice flavored with some seaweed and served with a slab of Spam and pickled daikon radish. There are tables outside. Afterward, go next door for some excellent shave ice!

As a seasoned traveler, local…read moretransplant, and self-proclaimed foodie, I will be the first to admit that some of the food on the island is not what visitors would get excited about. However, I would make a reservation and drive 2 1/2 hours for this place, and I am not exaggerating when I say that I think they have the BEST food on the island - I have been searching this island for good restaurants for the last 3 years. I had their lobster ravioli, a side of focaccia bread, a matcha lemonade, and tiramisu. EVERYTHING is made fresh here and the attention to detail and flavors is evident in every plate. The ravioli was surprisingly filling and I savored every bite. The pasta was perfectly al dente. And, the flavors, juicy lobster and creamy sauce were balanced just right. The sauce was so tasty I wanted to lick the plate. I thought about ordering a second side of bread to clean it off, but was able to practice self-control (barely lol). I won't go into detail about the drinks or dessert only because I could write a full essay. But, I will say that everything I had here was well-worth my investment and I will absolutely be making the drive back out here again soon. Of all the places on the island, I would say you MUST try this place. And, shoutout to Claudia and the servers for exceptional service. We are so lucky to have you on this island. Much mahalos for the amazing food and experience here. My friends, I will say it again- Cipriano's has the BEST food on the island. Stop what you are doing right now and make a reservation.

The Absolute Best Meal on the Island--A Masterclass in Food & Service!…read moreIf I could give Seafood Bar & Grill 10 stars, I would. This wasn't just a dinner; it was our absolute favorite meal of the entire trip. We didn't even have a special occasion to celebrate--we just had a phenomenal experience here in the past and couldn't wait to return. They somehow managed to exceed every expectation. From the second we walked in, we were blown away. We loved the Tiki Bar, everyone is family when you walk in, history covering the walls ambiafamily-friendly; ev Seafood We were greeted by Dave Yurtin, the owner, who set up a fabulous table for us inside. But here is the kicker: Dave actually remembered us from our first visit two years ago! Talk about a total legend. We couldn't believe his memory--that is next-level hospitality. Our server, Ryan, provided spectacular, world-class service. He didn't write a single part of our big order down and got absolutely everything 100% right. He was attentive, fast, and incredibly sharp--he even remembered at the end that my mother-in-law had asked for onion rings once she was finished, before changing her mind. Incredible! Now, let's talk about the food and drinks because WOW. We started with the drinks, and these were hands-down the absolute best Mai Tais we have had on the island. Every single dish that hit the table was a home run: - Escargot: Wow, wow, wow, wow! Absolutely phenomenal. The pesto and cheese with the garlic bread? Unreal. - Seafood Quesadilla & Coconut Shrimp: Perfectly executed and delicious. - Braised Short Ribs: Out of this world. Fall-off-the-bone tender. - Pineapple Macnut Slaw: Insane flavor. Do not skip this! - Garlic Bread: Spectacular and perfect for soaking up every last bit of flavor. - Fish Linguine: A rich, perfectly balanced cream sauce packed with different types of fresh fish. Somehow, we saved room for dessert and tried FOUR different ones: the Key Lime Pie was unbelievable, the Lilikoi Pie and Kona Coffee Pie were spectacular, and the NY Cheesecake with Lilikoi Sauce was the perfect grand finale. Between Dave's legendary memory, Ryan's flawless service, and a kitchen that doesn't miss, Seafood Bar & Grill is an absolute must-visit. We will be talking about this meal until our next visit! Rome Meets the Pacific: A Revelation at Meridia…read more There is a specific kind of bravery required to order Carbonara on a tropical island, especially when you are dining with your mother-in-law and your palate is still vibrating from a trip to Italy just a month ago. We had recently dined at a prestigious "Tre Gamberi" trattoria in Rome, so our skepticism was high. We expected a heavy, cream-laden resort interpretation. We were wrong. Under the guidance of Chef Soto, the Carbonara here is not just an imitation; it is an act of alchemy. It is a Roman-meets-Norcia masterpiece--a glossy, golden emulsion of egg, cheese, and guanciale/pancetta, elevated by the earthy whisper of truffle. We were seated at a gorgeous table near the cove often frequented by sea turtles (tartarughe), making this a perfect moment of enjoying a tartufata near the tartarughe. It was, without hyperbole, as good as what we had in Italy. The rest of the meal followed suit in a dizzying display of technique. The Japanese scallops were silken and precise, tasting of the clean, cold ocean. And do not let the whimsical name of the "Poi-cotta" deter you. What sounds like a kitschy pun is actually a dessert of haunting texture and depth--far more compelling and sophisticated than its charming title suggests. Chef Soto visited our table after the meal, his passion for these ingredients palpable. Meridia has always had the view; now, finally, it has the soul to match.
