An actual Scandinavian Meat shop (and gift shop)…read more Full Stop. (also, the meat shop only takes cash or check, so be prepared) It was our family reunion - all the kids and grandkids. We did the American Swedish Institute, then hit Ingebretsen's for dinner supplies. What a great choice. Six types of herring. Swedish Meatball Meat. Julekage. Limpa Rye. Scandinavian sausages and cheese. Store made Lefse. Candy, Fish, Crisp Breads, Lingonberry jam. We loaded up, wheeled to my daughters house, and had a wonderful family meal.

I came yesterday with 3 girl friends to buy some provisions for the Norway vs England soccer FIFA game. Butcher was very helpful with the regular sarcasm they can dish out but I also feel I might have gotten scammed with my cash payment that is required. It could have been my error but something felt strange in our transaction. Then four of us were in the gift store at the check out counter and a gentleman walked in and asked if cash was required for the food just in the coolers right inside the door and the woman answered that in the market it was but I am not sure she answered his actual question. he immediately turned away and left as we all attempted to say they have a cash machine in the store but no mention from the gift store sales person. I felt sorry for him. We all enjoyed our items we did purchase but unfortunately Norway did not win but they did put up a good fight.

So we walked around the food court area, most of the stalls were closed. I appreciated the variety of eateries available. We spent time browsing the mini grocery area, where they sell various interesting items such as honey comb and Turkish delight. My friend bought dried chamomile flowers in bulk to make tea. It was only a quarter the price of buying chamomile tea bags! In the building were some interesting art sculptures. I really like mixed use spaces like this.

Midtown Global Market has been such a staple in my life. It does such a good job of having food options from so many cultures and parts of the world. The food is reasonably priced and the workers are all so kind and knowledgable. Beyond just food, there is a huge selection of art, groceries, clothing, and more. MGM has always felt like the ideal of what Minneapolis is and can be. I am sad to see a lot of booths closed right now. My heart aches for my neighbors and community. I hope (and know) that MGM can bounce back and continue to be a place of diverse community. Love MGM always.

I have been going to La Cosecha in the Midtown Global Market ever since they opened 3 years ago…read more Why? They have a great selection of hot sauces. I dont mean Pace picante sauce (barf!) nor do I mean pico de gallo, which I consider more of a garnish than an actual salsa. I mean tiny bottles filled with potent and tangy sauces every color of the rainbow. Tapatio, Dave's Gourmet Insanity, Cholula, and my all-time favorite: Green Yucateco. La Cosecha does an excellent job of keeping their shelves stocked with all my favorites and then some. I tried an avocado/habanero salsa here recently that was delicious. Besides keeping me in fire-breathing intensity, La Cosecha carries all kinds of Latin American staple foods that I want from Central and South America. They stretch from the Mexican north (tamale husks, steamers, stone mortar & pestle sets) all the way to the southern tip of Chile (frying dough for cheese empanadas).

He explained to me that Latins use thin strips of ribs for soups and stuff, interesting. I told him I wanted a big piece to grill and he went into the walk in and procured what looked like a whole pig! He cut down a huge slab of ribs for me and my BBQ day was saved. Can't say if it tasted good cos I don't eat pork but my BF scarfed them down so I'm guessing it was tasty. Price was very reasonable too. I've also bought stuff from the store here like dried chili's and plantains. Stuff you can't always get a a regular grocery store, they seem to have here as far as Latin food goes. Great asset to the MGM!
