I've been wanting to chop my hair to a cute pixie cut for awhile, and I've been quite nervous about doing it. On a whim after church I decided to come to Mint as a walk-in and I was immediately greeted by the staff. The walls are decorated with artwork made by the employees (all for sale too!!) and the salon has this retro modern vibe. The stylists are great with cuts, color and styling! Every person getting their hair done looked amazing, not a single person with a meh do at all. Taylor was my stylist today, and she is the cutest and nicest person ever! I showed her pictures of what I was aiming for, and she was so excited to cut my shoulder length hair into a pixie. After cutting my hair, she showed me how to style it and how to blow dry it (I'm not very good with these things) and I walked out feeling so confident and so in love with my new do. Fair warning this is going to be an emotional review. A little over three years ago, I stopped getting my hair cut or done. This was very unlike me because I really love changing up my hair. Unfortunately, after a lot of time of being sick and stress from work, I started to get bald patches all over my head. My hair started to thin and break and my scalp felt raw all the time and was red with sensitivity. The stress was definitely a killer for me. So, as a result, I began putting my hair up in a ponytail or bun to hide the damage. Those years of having in such a tight bun and ponytail led to more irritation in my scalp and more hair loss. To say the very least I spent a lot of time and money trying to fix my hair and typically all I ended up with was lots of tears. After a lot of time of frustration and tears, my hair began to grow back. The hair was thin and weak but I was happy the patches started to go away. My hair grew past my shoulders and I knew I needed to get a haircut but was terrified to take that next step. It took me so long to grow back and I didn't know if I was ready for all that. Every day I would drive home and see Mint Salon. I would go on yelp relentless amounts of times trying to get myself to schedule an appointment. After some time of dragging my feet, I finally scheduled an appointment to see Amber. To say I was very nervous to go in wouldn't cover the amount of anxiety I felt. I was embarrassed and afraid to be judged that I waited so long. Amber welcomed me into the shop with such kindness. She was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable. She asked me questions about what I wanted to do and my preferences. And she went over and beyond in making sure that I didn't feel out of place. She did such an amazing job and was so patient with me. Secretly I think she knew I was about to cry haha but she put me at ease. The shop was also so clean and so open and welcoming. It definitely had an intimate feel to it. At the end of my appointment, my hair looked so different. It looked healthy and alive and made me feel so much better. I love the style and the fact that she kept the length as long as possible. I couldn't have had a better appointment. I would definitely come back and definitely recommend people to come here. I have never been so happy for a haircut! I straighten my hair almost every day, and my hair was super damaged. My stylist was Nicole and she was just plain wonderful. I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do with my hair, and she was super helpful and I didn't feel rushed at all. After talking for a few mins and with her help, I decided to do a short bob cut. I had my hair cut and colored last night by Nicole. Let me just start by saying that Nicole and her crew are so awesome. The salon is so cute! I walked in a little indecisive about what color I wanted to go with, I just knew I wanted to retire from blonde and just go darker. Nicole did not pressure me at all to hurry up and just pick, she gave some really helpful advice. I also walked in with extremely damaged hair, not thinking twice about parting ways with my length. I mean, I knew I was going to leave her salon with practically the shortest hair (about chin length) I have ever had in my life...since I was like 3 and I was okay with that. Or so I thought... Long story short, after the color/wash, came the haircut yadda yadda. Now, Nicole started styling my hair, and literally 10 mins before she finished styling my hair, my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest and I found myself holding my breath. Oh my lord, I was so scared. I knew I wanted to go short, but you know how sometimes things turn out differently from how you've envisioned it? That's what I was afraid of. I was shaking so bad because I was so nervous about the outcome... Nicole finished with all the styling and detailing on my hair and turned me to the mirror and I kid you not, I was shaking even harder and was so nervous about looking but I knew I had to, because what's done is done. I looked up at the mirror, and I couldn't help but smile!!! Definitely different, and definitely a drastic change, but I don't regret it one bit!!!! Nicole did an amazing job with the color and haircut!!!! I don't think she will ever know how much she contributed to this boost in self esteem that I am experiencing and with short hair to say the least. Awesome little salon retro and fun, great place to escape the hustle and bustle I love to go in for a blow out, listen to some great music and have a drink while I get my hair washed and styled, it's fun while getting your hair done. Amber is the sweetest hairstylist on earth. I wasn't even really sure what I wanted, but Amber gave me the perfect cut. She's wonderful to talk to and has an incredibly warm and friendly personality. Everything about Mint Salon is enjoyable. The store has a cute vintage theme, and is always kept neat and tidy. There's no weird hair salon smell! I definitely plan on coming back here. If you want a hairdresser that listens, my impression is that this is the place to go. I had a niece's's wedding to attend to, and I had some overly bleached chunks for "natural looking highlights" that were not my idea. I am an older person with thin, fine hair, not easy to get a right look. With little hope of getting an appointment for such a well-reviewed salon I called and left a message. Not only did I get a same-day call back, but I got a Friday appointment, just in time to get a correction before my event. The owner Nicole Mesquit is a person who listens and who cares. She gave me highlights and lowlights, a bang trim, blend of the upper layers for better volume, and only charged for the color, even though she was extra generous with her services. There are just two girls running this salon and they only do cut and color, so as to do those two things well. There are other fun touches such as offering water or coffee and the darling artsy environment, everything that adds up to "we care. The salon is on Garden Grove Blvd., right across the street from Costco. The shared parking to the Main Street businesses is accessible and free. This is a local Garden Grove business that I will patronize, support and recommend. read more

There are really so many great things to say about Nicole Mesquit and Mint Salon! First and foremost: Nicole KNOWS hair. She studies it. This is something that I totally love about her. She stays informed on the latest techniques and products. She really thinks about your hair type, what you want, and how to make sure you love your results. She's super thoughtful in so many ways. I am super, super (extremely) picky about my color. Nicole helped get me back to the super natural blonde color that had been eluding me for a long time. I have been toying with the idea of taking this blonde to a dark purple/red, and I would completely trust Nicole with such a drastic change. Her haircuts have also always been great. She always takes her time; I have never, ever felt rushed out of her chair. The salon is, of course, adorable. It's sweet, funky, and fun. This is a really cute salon that I drive by a lot whenever going to Costco (across the street). I gave it a try when I was looking for a place to dye my hair and was so happy with my choice. Amber was phenomenal! She was adorable and attentive to detail (even down to making sure no dye got onto my glasses frame). It was a very homey and welcoming environment. I got my whole head dyed a burgundy color and Amber was experimenting with how to style it because I wasn't sure what I wanted. It was a fun experience. My color kind of faded after a month; probably because reddish colors are harder to maintain. I let Amber know and she was more than happy to schedule a new appointment for me to fix/adjust any issue. I would totally recommend this place. read more

I have never been so pleased with salon service since I started getting my hair done professionally. During my visit I was greeted upon entry and there was something about atmosphere as well...the salon is decorated in a quirky, cute, sweet, minty , and very welcoming fashion and I am in love with it. Don't get me started on their glitter flooring! I was worked on immediately, as I did make an appointment. To my surprise I was the only one there but, I absolutely loved that. Amber was the one who worked on my hair primarily, I was taken aback by how beautiful her pink hair was fashioned in a perfect beehive updo. The owner of the salon, Nicole, also worked on my hair and two together are a lovely dynamic duo! Both girls know how to provide quality customer service and are knowledgeable in what they do. They know how to make you feel comfortable and they give you that immediate feel of security and relief. Going to any salon can be nerve wracking because you never really know if you'll get the end result you hoped and asked for. I've had many many horrible experiences that were somewhat traumatizing. So trusting a new hair stylist is always a difficult thing for me. I came in with hair so warm toned and brown caramel, dry, and straw-like, that I wasn't sure if they could get my hair to a cool ash blonde that I had asked for. I really just wanted to get the warmth out of my hair and shoot for something close to a cool ash blonde. So I was very lenient with what I asked for. Cool talks, cool vibes, cool music and two hours later, my hair turned out way better than I had pictured it would come out to be! These women worked some "mounir" magic on my hair that I could only dream of! I am incredibly thankful and still at shock at how amazing they transformed my hair. I'd assumed after bleaching my hair it would have been pretty damaged I had already accepted I'd have to deal with breakage but whatever they used on my hair and however they did it, preserved the strength and integrity of my predamaged hair.
