I decided to make a long past due visit to Archetype to check out their distilled spirits. In addition to their vodka and gin, they make a long list of small batch distilled spirits of various flavors. When you walk in there are a few high top tables and a long bar. My recommendation is to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders. They are knowledgeable and will craft a cocktail based on what your favorite flavor profile is. As my friend C says, "if it's muddled N will drink it!" She's not wrong. She speaks the truth. I told the bartender that a cocktail with either the blackberry or strawberry spirits would be a great start. He mixed strawberry with their mint spirit, added soda, and ice in a tall glass. It was really refreshing. Because they have so many different flavored spirits they can craft almost anything. If you like a dirty martini, they have blue cheese and olive flavored spirits. I tasted the blue cheese spirit separately and it was hmmm...interesting by itself but mixed with the olive spirit and "ta-da!" - you've got your dirty martini. Their vodka and wine are made from wine grapes. I didn't get a chance to try either the vodka or gin this time but will definitely be back on my next ski trip to Vail. The distillery is located just a few doors down from Mountain Standard near the bridge over Gore Creek.

They do flights, cocktails & tasters of a variety of different kinds of spirits. It's unique in that the whole place is set up inside a train car with an open layout. If you feel like exploring you can step outside & see all the cool things within the building. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible as you do need to take a few steps up to go inside. The only negative about the martinis would be the glasses are smaller than what martinis at most other places would be served in so it is simply a smaller serving. It felt super swanky and loved all the wood - felt like we were somewhere back in the 30s. The cocktail connoisseur behind the bar, Danny, makes you a custom made drink based your preferences. They can of course make standard drinks but what fun is that? In their menu, they have a list of the most popular liquors (gin, vodka, whiskey, rum, etc.) and then flavors that typically pair with those liquors. For example, I wanted some sort of whiskey sour and asked to make it with peach or ginger flavors. Diego, the operations manager, is built like a man who has never once skipped leg day and apparently runs a strict calf inspection program at the door. Nobody gets into Highside without adequate lower leg development, or inspection. I don't make the rules. Diego does. He examined the situation, measured the meat, and reluctantly allowed us entry. Once inside, things somehow became less normal. The smoked wings were absolutely unbelievable. Crispy, smoky, delicious, and worth whatever bizarre calf based TSA screening Diego is running out front. Then there's Rose. Rose is an outstanding bartender who loves Nickelback with a passion normally reserved for religion, family, and oxygen. Mention Nickelback and her eyes light up. Sing Nickelback at the bar and you have apparently entered into a legally binding friendship with her. So there I was, three beers deep, eating smoked wings, staring respectfully at Diego's magnificent calves, and singing "LOOK AT THIS PHOTOGRAPH" with Rose in a Breckenridge taproom while my girlfriend presumably reconsidered several major life decisions.
