    A classic Manhattan

I was swayed to visit when I saw Stranahan's was voter #1 whiskey lounge in America by Yelp. That's a big title to earn!!!! -- and while I love me a good whiskey spot, I'm not sure it quite deserved the title? Don't get me wrong--it's a great little spot in Aspen to grab a cocktail. They have a lovely selection of whiskey-inspired cocktails and drinks. Being the Manhattan lover I am, I grabbed their house Manhattan and it was good but not the best I've ever had. I also wasn't super impressed with the service. Not that the service was bad, but usually if you visit a bar and you're the only one sitting there you'd think the bartenders would make conversation! My drink took a while and the guy next to me was sitting for nearly 10 minutes before they finally asked him what he wanted. It was not busy (a weekday around 5pm) If you're primarily a bar, I think it's just as important to have good, friendly bartenders as it is to have good drinks. All in all would probably visit again if I was in town just for the view and vibe - small indoor area with a bar, couch seating area, and a few tables, but the patio is right in the middle of the town square and you have a great view of the park and mountains. I feel there are better spots in Aspen to grab a cocktail if you're a whiskey lover -- like Hooch!

Love the vibe and drinks were amaze! Strolled in before the music in the park on the 4th of July. The service was amazing, and we loved the deviled eggs and meat and cheese board! We will definitely be back!

My wife and I enjoyed the ambiance and hospitality from the Stranahan Whiskey team. Some honorable mentions: Max (GM) for the warm welcome, Kayla (assistant GM) for explaining the Stranahan history, different bottles of whiskey, and great conversation, and finally Jesse (bartender) for the great service. The Whiskey Lodge rustic yet elegant decor, comfortable bar seating is the perfect destination for whiskey lovers. Highly recommended!

We took two seats at the bar and were lucky enough to have Tina helping us, she was so friendly and knowledgeable, really a gem. We started with the fiery passion and the rum sour and were impressed by the complexity of flavors in both, the fiery passion was a real winner, with a taste of passionfruit, and the habanero pineapple in the rum really coming through, but not in a overly sweet way, just enough. The chili sugar rim was a unique way to really set it over the top. The rum sour was also delicious, the Demerara, giving it almost a hint of an old-fashioned, but keeping it light and foamy throughout. Such an incredible set of cocktails. I also had the tomato bisque soup, it was so yummy and cheesy, and the staff were nice enough to bring out some local made bread toasted on the side. Then, Tina made us her own special cocktail, a take on a strawberry spicy rum, with an egg white to give it a delicious foamy texture. All the drinks are delicious, and Tina noted that they were the strongest cocktails in the area, with 2 1/2 shots per drink. We were definitely feeling fun and talkative as we were leaving. This place was so upbeat, with games to choose from, but still keeping a refined mountain vibe. We tried to go back again the next day, but had finished earlier and the bar didn't open yet! Bummer. We don't find our way to crested Butte often but next time we are there, it will surely be a stop.

Great crowd and we had a lively time. 2 nights later we went back for the same BYO Old Fashion and I gave the bartender (different from prior visit) the ingredients; Rye, angistino bitters, orange bitters and thats all! Over a single large block of ice. They were out of Ang bitters (???) so i substituted walnut bitters. It happens, no biggy. They arrived at the table and were over small chipped ice. Wrong for a bourbon drink. She said they were out of blocks (8:00???) It was full of simple syrup- yuck! I discreetly took it over to the bar and asked what was in it, it was terribly sweet and not what we ordered. She said she puts simple syrup in them. I told her that is not what we ordered in the BUILD YOUR OWN. And asked her to remake it. She stormed to the table and said she would have to charge me for the new drink since that is how they make them. I asked her isn't it a build your own? And said forget it just throw the damn thing away. I'm done. I had nothing and we left. Be careful to explain it is build your own and you get to tell them how to make it.

The ambiance, service, and drink didn't warrant a $20 Old Fashioned. Fairly disappointed that I…read moreupgraded to a "barrel aged" $22 drink and it was poured out of a spigot mini cask.
