My silk press came out SO WELL - my hair was so shiny, soft and I received so many compliments!!!! I booked Carline based on her five 5-star Yelp reviews. I had high hopes for my silk press experience. I had a trim 4 weeks prior to seeing Carline (attached is a photo of my hair 4 weeks ago) and despite taking out cornrows on Sunday, I thoroughly detangled and prepped my hair for the process. Here are my issues with the service in no particular order: 1. Carline performed my first two shampoos which were DIVINE! She curtly told me after the 2nd shampoo "Monique will take it from here." Ummmm, who is Monique? Oh, she's the assistant who I thought was just a kid hanging out in the salon after school. Herein lies problem #2. 2. Monique's shampoo technique was the worst experience I've ever had. She literally banged my head against the shampoo bowl, not intentionally I'm sure...she's just ROUGH! She did ask "Are you tender headed?", to which I replied "yes," thinking it would soften her touch...NOPE! In an attempt to make conversation, Monique told me that in her experience with observing Carline, she does great work with natural clients. I asked how long she had been an assistant and she said "well to be honest today is my first day." WHATTTTT?! You had a newbie assistant work on a first time client?! No bueno...and what about this wealth of experience she had observing Carline's work? All 5 hours of it?! 3. I lost tons of hair in the detangling process. There were moments I had to bite my lip to refrain from screaming. FINGER DETANGLE GENIUSES! It works! 4. Here's what really took the cake; no it wasn't the horrified, "omg I actually have to work on a client with long, thick hair" look that was plastered on Carline's face the entire time, it was the fact that she used a $2 paddle brush to blow my hair out without properly detangling. She was smug about my reservations with the brush. I told her that my regular stylist (who is taking a brief hiatus), always uses a blow dryer with comb attachment as this works best for MY hair. She told me that this wasn't her technique or preference. Meanwhile, the other stylists around her were using comb attachments. Then she had the nerve to ask "Is your hair always this tangled?!" No it's not. In fact, she created the tangles with her lackluster approach to detangling my hair. It took her about 5 minutes to realize it needed to be detangled in sections; I have a lot of hair and she was combing from TOP TO BOTTOM. If I had any qualms about returning to Carline, I might as well say goodbye to my locks now. If you are a natural client in search of a stylist, sure, book Carline. She can style hair. But she doesn't know the first thing about proper hair care.

In May 2025, I completed appointment intake forms and requested to not be filmed or photographed during my June 2025 appointment. Despite this, I believed I was filmed, photographed and posted to Tami's social media. I brought this to her attention through VARIOUS communication channels and kindly requested removal - providing proof of the form I completed that did not authorize being filmed or photographed. Despite this, I was met with hostility, poor tone, poor customer service, told I did provide permission, was said to be harassing her and was eventually dismissed. I found her response to my concerns to be very unprofessional and deemed her an untrustworthy individual. Not to mention, I came to my appointment with grease in my hair, where she suggested I utilize harsh Dial and/or Dawn soap to wash my hair because my hair wasn't sudsing - as opposed to a clarifying shampoo. I am not a duck in an oil spill... there's no reason to utilize dial and/or dawn soap in place of clarifying shampoo. For this reason, she's unknowledgeable and misinformed. And finally, she was very rough with my hair and played very loud music with profanity. The environment made me uncomfortable. Yet, I was still polite and tipped for service rendered. In all, I want a beautician that respects their clients wishes, is informative and provides a calming environment and she does not meet these standards. I am convinced that Mateya took advantage of my daughter given that she was 16. Because there is no way if I had accompanied her to the appointment that she could have left with her hair like that with a whopping charge of $185. I will pay any price to have my daughter's hair done as long as the person does a good job and this was horrible. She claims she used two packs of braids. Seems like she used only one. The braids are thin at the beginning and at the end looks like strings. There are some very thin tiny ones in the back. My daughter has a thick head of hair and these make her look like her hair is extremely thin. I am completely and utterly disappointed. My daughter this morning wants the braids out of her hair which we are going to take out.
