My second visit and once again, my expectations were not too high. This place delivered. I went with the Vaca Frita with fried plantains and rice & beans. The only thing missing for me is the hot sauce which is easily added. This is a solid plate of food and on point for other Cuban restaurants I've been to. My wife ordered the Cuban sandwich. This is the third time I've had issues with ordering from this restaurant today they took my order at 1730 said it'll be 30 minutes. I arrived at 1800 and the restaurant is closed. Had a Friday hankering for Cuban cuisine and Mirna's came to the forefront. This is authentic and very flavorful. In addition, they offered 2 for 1 sangria's or margaritas. I remembered the black bean soup which was both rich and filling; Just as good this time as well. Also, I opted for the arroz con polo which was delicious and substantial for under $15. My wife ordered the ropa vieja - shredded beef with rice, peppers and cilantro plus 2 sides. Both entrees were approved (2 thumbs up) and no room for dessert. We were in Sarasota to visit Ringling college and found Mirna'a on Yelp. We are so happy we did. It was some of the best Cuban food we have had and we live in south Florida. Service was friendly and while we chose to eat inside, they also have a nice amount of outdoor seating. My daughter started with the chicken noodle soup. It was so good. Different from what she expected but she loved it. My MILA and I had the small Cuban sandwich. We probably could have shared it. It was till huge. Husband ordered the potato ball. It was amazing! Stopped in here after finding it on Yelp when looking for a quick place nearby the jungle adventures place after our visit there. As we pulled in, we noticed the crowd but they still were able to seat us immediately. We were really hungry and this hit the spot! My parents' ultimate recommendation was the vaca frita, and while I absolutely loved my food I think they were right. We rolled in on a Saturday for an early dinner. It was pretty crowded inside, so we chose a seat outside. I did partake in the BOGO sangria. Wasn't planning on alcohol, but who could resist? Our server was excellent at making recommendations. Hubby ordered the skirt steak, I ordered the pork. Both were bursting with flavor and there was enough on each plate for two whole meals. In town for the weekend and to look at a school for my daughter and needed some lunch. I found this place on yelp. It turned out to be a really great place. We started out with a few appetizers. My mom had some black bean soup and said it was very good, my daughter had the chicken soup and loved it, my wife and I shared a stuffed potato ball, and it was one of the best potato balls we have ever eaten. My daughter had the fried fish filet with fried yuca and white rice, she really liked it. My mother and wife both had cuban sandwiches. I got to try it and I have to agree with them, it was fantastic. As for myself I had ropa veija with yucca and sweet bananas. And it was incredibly good. Our server was very good, the menu had plenty of options to choose from and the portions, wow! Very large. I'm only sorry we were unable to take our leftover. Stopped in while visiting Tampa. Wanted some good Cuban cuisine and oh my did Mirnas fit the bill! We had the ropa vieja, tamal cubano, croquetas, papas rellenas and a large Cuban. Sooo good! The Cuban was huge! The large is like 2 sandwiches. The Roos vieja was so tender. Excellent. We had plantains and fries as well and both were fresh and an excellent complement texture wise to some of the other items. Would gladly go back as it was excellent value. Great quality for an affordable price and good taste and service! Indoor and outdoor seating was a viable as well. Service was absolutely awful. We ordered (buy-one get-one $14) margarita with no salt also ordered a water with lemon. Margarita came out with salt and no lemon for water. We ordered 2 salads with chicken and ranch plus extra ranch. They came out with no dressing. The waiter finally came back after 10 minutes, we had to ask once again for dressing. He finally brought us the dressing. He never came back after that to ask if we needed anything. We never got the second margarita either. Another waitress came and brought us the bill. Since we didn't get the second margarita they charged us $9.00 for one margarita. When asked about the price change the waitress was of no assistance. We won't be back. We also tried the small bean soup, this portion is not a cup size as you would think but twice as that if not more, a bit thick and Flavorful and delicious. Every main plate comes with huge portions, we could not finish in one sitting. We had Left overs for pre dinner/snack. The fresh juice of guanabana and mammary were also a hit with the kids. The location is pretty convenient. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and very well put together. Plenty of staff and very friendly environment. The food was pretty good and the prices were reasonable. My only pet peeve. I can't stand when restaurants make you pay at the table with the server standing right in front of you with that. Credit card machine. I purposely tip LESS when I see that. It's annoying and very low class. but they did not get penalized stars because of that. read more

I first visited Mirna's when she opened her place near the airport and I fell in love with her food and passion. I think there were just 3 staff at the time and I believe they were all family. She's since moved from that shotgun shack of a venue with 3-4 parking places and moved south, increasing her space, parking, and staff. But the one constant? We are not locals but visit Sarasota 3-4 times per year. On each trip, we have eaten at Mirna's and gotten something different each time. Their staff is very friendly and helpful, decor is colorful and food is outstanding. There is also a nice outdoor area for additional seating. I grew up on real Cuban food in Tampa and Miami. We were staying at a hotel down the street for an event last week & got a couple takeout sandwiches from Mirna's to take back to the hotel with us. We got the Pan con ropa vieja (shredded beef) & a Cubano sandwich. Both were great but the shredded beef sandwich was outstanding!!! And they were HUGE sandwiches!
