My review is based on service and food. When I walked in, I wasn't really greeted. She told me to wait a second when I walked in, but in Spanish if that matters. Not bad service, just ok. Good: the drinks were ginormous and you can never have too much Horchata or Jamaica! Mmm! The food was plated nicely and the flautas didn't have too much salt so the salty salsa added just the perfect amount! Table service was great! They are kind and gracious. This review is for the food and not the service. The service was decent but I'm sure you won't care about my experience. You wish to know how the food came out. For me this was a 4.1. The pastor tacos were good but not write home quality. The guacamole was fresh but a bit salty. TBH I loved it but my wife did not. I would order it again. The fajitas were very good. My wife loved them which is rare! Just a note. What we really noticed was that everything freshly made. The chips came out warm and I can tell you they were made on site, likely because they were made by the corn tortillas which came out fresh on site too. That is a plus in my book!!! Now for the complaints which were minor, but had an effect on the rating. Their salsa wasn't hot at all. The waiter brought a spiced sauce bottle to the table to kick it up and suggested we add some. The bottle was good but obviously not fresh. There was a bit of a language issue, we got past it but it was there. To me this was a 4.2 but I would go back. Visiting from California I found a random Mexican restaurant near my hotel with notable good reviews on here. Located on Washington Ave in a small parking lot connected to subway and another business is this hole in the wall you might miss.. The first thing I do for any Mexican spot is buy tacos of every meat I'd be interested in to judge the flavor. It's easy to aim and miss by ordering your favorite meat and the business specializes in another meat that you'd enjoy even more. With that said, 3/4 passed with flying colors. The steak tacos cost more by 50 cents or so which I wouldn't mind but it was the only bland taco in my opinion. I wont take any points away for it, just don't bet the farm on it before committing to your order. The salsa Verde is good, add salt or pepper to anything you feel may be lacking and you're for certain to have a good meal. I had to ask, being from California if there were even any mexicans in town or was this a random Mexican restaurant. To my surprise I was told the majority of the Latin community in sarasota is actually Mexican and the tacos make me believe it.. lol this isn't a mexican place made by people of another ethnicity with their spin on it. If you're looking for some decent Mexican food in town, I'd recommend this place and possibly a few other joints. You won't be let down here. read more

I'm not sure who is rating this place so highly. Our server was polite, but every thing we ordered was brought to us wrong. I asked for a beef chimichanga with red sauce, got one with green. My partner asked for Chicken Enchiladas con Mole and was given the chicken mole dinner plate. Because of this I had my food much sooner than they did. I also ordered a tostada pastor and it was never brought to me. The silverware we were given was just that, fork and knife, not even any napkins. We've been eating at La Brisa for years and despite having some of the best Mexican food in Sarasota it's never been that busy at the times we've gone. Tonight it was exceptionally slow. Unfortunately, they're at the point of being seriously concerned. The rent just went up (not sure how it's justified from looking at the run down strip mall they're in). Honestly it's not in a great location (sandwiched between a Subway and Metro T-Mobile just south of 12th St.), but their food and their service are outstanding. I'm a big fan of their chicken chimichanga and it's loaded with chicken ($12.99) and always enough for two meals. They also cater. On our way out this evening I put in my order for a dozen chicken tamales ($29.00) which I'll pick up on Sunday. I really want to share some love for this place. They deserve it. Give them a try. I am constantly looking for good Mexican food (having lived in both TX and So Calif). As of now this is definitely my favorite place for Mex food in Sarasota. The food strikes me as fresh and well prepared. I usually get the chicken enchiladas verde (not listed on the menu). Theirs is really good as are the 2 or 3 variations of tacos I have ordered. They offer you 4 different "salsas" when you sit down although the serving size is small. They offer several different beers and a few other "cocktails". The atmosphere definitely leaves something to be desired. It's clean and open but really "commercial" looking (very unappealing). A little redecorating would go a LONG way to making it feel more fun. Also, it's not easy to notice. It's located in a small strip mall next to a Subway franchise. Please give them a chance to earn your business. Oh my goodness absolutely delicious!! We moved to this area from California and were craving some good Mexican food. La Brisa has such a homey atmosphere and our server, Imelda, was so sweet! She was the only waitress here at the time, and did a great job! She kept our waters full and checked on us regularly. We ordered the Chorizo Queso, a chimichanga, and the carnitas. Authentic Mexican food. They had buffet on Sunday at 2pm $14.99 (included deserts, fruit, pozole, beans, rice, meats, tamales...) we did not eat at buffet. We ordered from the menu -- taco plate Comes with 3 tacos, beans and rice. $8.99 Also ordered Pozole $8.99 (not on the menu). Comes with garnishes of lime, radishes, cabbage and cilantro. Tacos a la carte are $2 each. The tacos we ordered were al pastor, lengua and chorizo. They come garnished with lime, onion and cilantro. The place was clean. Friendly staff. Ingredients were quality and fresh -- not our favorite preparation of meats or pozole but good quality meal. We will not be returning here. The meat was not seasoned well - the al pastor had a very strong garlicky flavor which is not the norm. The meat was also very dry. The lengua was tougher than it should be.... The pozole was bland even with the garnishes and sauces. Only reason we gave 3 stars is due to clean, friendly staff, fresh ingredients. They need a new cook! read more

We are in town for a week and miss good Mexican food from home. We searched Yelp to find something with great ratings and not a corporate chain. The first place we called was closed, and thankfully so. We called in a carryout order and the woman who answered the phone was extremely courteous and accommodated the two requests we had. I ordered cheese enchiladas and substituted the red/green sauce for mole sauce. The mole was so f**king delicious! The enchiladas were warm, soft and fresh. The refried beans were so flavorful and the rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. This meal tasted like so much heart and care was put into it. My friend ordered 1 carnitas taco and 2 carne asada tacos. It came with a green sauce that I stole because the taste was amazing. She loved the flavor and texture of the meat and tortillas. The garnish was the traditional onions and cilantro with a lime. She also loved the beans, and she is not a fan of beans in general. The chips are the thin chips and not the thick mouth scratchers so many places serve. We got a side of guacamole and were not disappointed. People, don't miss out on this place. The people were so nice; the prices are reasonable; the food was hot, fresh and perfect!
