Abuela's is an excellent eatery with original Cuban food. Their Cuban Sandwich, Steak Sandwich, and Media Noche Sandwich are fantastic. Their Ropa Vieja is to die for. If you order a Churrasco Steak, jt is large enough for two person. All their chicken fillet sandwiches are excellent choices. I go by there every week and pick up Croquetas and Cuban Tamales to take home. Very nice size portions and a great value. read more

Wanted to try this place for a while now and got to stop in for lunch today. Small family owned business that is rooted in Cuban and Argentinian cuisine. Owners are incredibly nice and take pride in what they do. Decor takes you back to Cuba and personally reminds me of the time I spent in country. I got the breaded chicken sandwich based on previous reviews and I have to agree, it's great! Massive breaded chicken cutlets on fresh bread. It was delicious and filling. I came in with my family and young kids, who were calm, patient, and well-behaved, after driving over 10 hours here to Florida and just wanting a quick bite to eat and before we were even greeted, the woman at the front immediately said "nope, won't fit" with zero attempt to help or even say hello. It wasn't just the lack of accommodation--it was the attitude. No warmth, no effort, no basic customer service and just flat out rude. A simple greeting or even a polite explanation would have gone a long way, but instead we were made to feel like an inconvenience the moment we walked in. I understand not every place can accommodate every group, but kindness and respect are the bare minimum. Unfortunately, that was completely missing here. I don't recommend this place and am very disappointed. We won't be returning. read more

This is a small little cafe in a plaza. There's less than 10 tables but it looks like a popular place for take out. I liked my order of breaded chicken sandwich with fries and a cafe con leche but I saw husband's Cuban and appetizer of yuca and plantains it made the rating lower. I would stay away from those items because they're not as good as the humongous (but flattened) breaded chicken sandwich. read more

Not too shabby! It's VERY small. Not a lot of tables. It was enough for the 5 of us, and a few other scattered table. Everyone liked their dishes. I had the paramilo steak with 2 fried eggs. You get two sides for $12.50 (before tax). Black beans were good. Simple but yum. Sweet plantains were also good (can those ever be bad though). It seems pretty authentic. I have to say, how this has such high reviews is beyond me. We came and it was mediocre. I have had a better Cuban at Publix, to be frank. Again, where are people eating that think this is 5 stars? Old section of Bradenton has it charm. We are actually at work lunch today close to this area. I need some help from our fellow yelper to look up the best rating around this area. Many of the restaurants actually close at Monday in this area. Abuela is a Cuban restaurant serving in this area has decent rating. We decided to give it a try. It locates in the small plaza. This is mom and pop shop that serve the Latin food. I have order the Bistec Palomilla Plain on the grill. They can prepare this flat Cuban steak in two different ways, grilled or breaded. This steak is actually a round beef steak in thin slice. The meat will be pounded to soften the tendon of the meat. You can eat with fried breaded steak plain or top with the tomato sauce. Or you can order they grilled this steak. When it is grill, it can top with the grilled onion make this steak very desirable. Some may ask to add the sunny side up egg. You can break the egg yolk and allow it as a dip with the steak. Yummm. I prefer grill since I have live in Miami. The steak is very traditional Latin meal for Cuban. The restaurant is quiet but we have good lunch there. The service is good. read more

The best Cuban restaurant I have found outside of Miami. Absolutely perfect food and preparation and a low-key, unpretentious atmosphere. I had their palomilla steak with sweet plantains and yucca, and it was spot-on. They also had proper colada (in which the sugar is added to the grounds before brewing), which I have found is hard to find outside of Miami. We live in Palmetto and we decided to take a gamble on Abuela's for lunch. Upon entering we were instantly impressed with the cleanliness. You could see and feel the clean. We were not very hungry and my husband had a bowl of black bean soup. I had the Abuela salad. It was impressively plated with a ring of tomatoes, cucumber and avocado But besides it looking so delicious, the mixed greens very impeccably fresh and crisp. This is a fantastic cuban in an unlikely place. Didn't think Palmetto had very many good restaurants, but now that I think about it, I think this is my second or third quality meal, so maybe I'm not being fair. I can't quite hit 5 stars on the cuban sandwich. In spite of how good it was, I am not certain it ranks with the best. I think it could have been a little thicker - bread was a bit overwhelming. But the pork was very good, everything was fresh, and the bread was good, too. I just think it could have used slightly more meat and cheese. My advice is get a 1/2. A full cuban, like I got, is a tremendous amount of food. Regardless, if you find yourself in Bradenton or Palmetto, I would say this is the place for a cuban sandwich.
