Now, curly hair takes an incredibly long time to straighten. Ashley took the time to straighten my hair and then curl it perfectly. She put an incredible amount of spray and cream to make sure it would not frizz in the humidity. I have to say, it looked great. The client's hair stylist left for another salon and Monroe Salon refused to honor their commitment. Instead they offered a 50% refund of the amount THEY overcharged! Unbelievable! I'm removing them from our recommended list, and hope they reevaluate their shady business practices.

Young and broke, but protective of my curls--and my very first stylist was Ray Reeves. The only things bigger than his talent were his personality and his heart. I trusted him instantly, and if you know anything about curls, that says everything. I moved away after graduation, but when I landed back within driving range, I didn't hesitate--clocking 45 minutes each way and passing plenty of other salons along the way. (Bombshell Beautique--you could never.) By then, Ray had passed, and I began seeing Corey Casey, his partner and co-owner. It was immediately clear why they built this place together. Corey is every bit as kind, talented, and grounded. I give him a general idea, he hands me a mimosa, and then works his magic. Shorter, longer, lighter, darker, touch-ups, tighter curls, or full blowouts--I've never left looking or feeling anything less than fabulous. From the neck up, anyway. One of the things I appreciate most is that Corey takes his craft seriously--ongoing education, advanced training, and a commitment to excellence not just for himself, but for the whole team. So no matter who you're booked with, you're in good hands. I even got my boyfriend to start coming here, because they've got a solid barber, too. The salon itself is always welcoming, always stylish, and somehow still relaxed. The staff is lovely, the product lines are legit, and the whole experience feels like a proper treat without ever being stuffy. If I had to complain? The parking lot! Tiny, cramped, and shared with other businesses. But hey--that's downtown San Marcos, so leave five minutes for creative parking. Ten if you've ever failed a driving exam. Also? I've been to several places before this where I end up bruised on my neck and shoulders from people trying to "work out knots" by using their elbows and such, but Jessica's methods are much kinder and effective! I am now able to sleep at night and hardly ever get tension headaches. My husband goes to Rachelle for his haircut, and she does a wonderful job. He has curly hair with a receding line that others have cut too high or just funky, but he has always come home with a great haircut from Synergy. I have heard many good things about Taurus as well, who does also does men's haircuts. I haven't tried them for cut or color myself, but I will update my review when I do. I highly recommend them for both massages and men's haircuts!
