I've never tried Kava before and so, I really wanted to check it out! This spot in Brooklyn is a very casual, relaxed, and chill spot for you to hang with friends or get some work done (there's free wi-fi!). The menu is pretty straight forward and you can get either your choice of tea or a cocktail. I ended trying Blood moon, lassi, Kolkata, and Cinnamon toast crunch cocktails. The cocktails themselves were pretty decent and just tasted like juice. Definitely a cool experience, and I would love to try other spots. read more

I'll always be open to try something new but something about kava bars makes me feel very out of place. The barista was very welcoming and very knowledgeable and helped us make our choices. Go sweet if it's your first time, this stuff tastes like dirt water. Clean, but gave disorganized Bushwick vibes with couches that are not conducive to open body language. String lights and wild playlists, we could only stomach one round. Kava myself gave a "high" elated giggly feeling and a mouth numbing sensation. read more

I'm still new to kava and would not recommend drinking daily. I ordered the shots, cinnamon cocktail, and they detail kava cocktails. This is a great first try but the cocktail and shots are bitter. Recommend a juice chaser. The service was quaint and the atmosphere is artsy. read more

i love kava bars so when I heard that there was this one with great reviews, 1 mile away, I HAD to go! The bartenders were super sweet, one even made me a free drink after finding out I work at a Kava bar in orlando. The space was super chill and relaxed, they had multiple couches and seating areas and even had a big seating and smoking area outside (which you know I had to take advantage of). I have the larger green with elderberry and lemon and it was delicious! The Kratom was super clean and had a nice body buzz, I got a secret garden to go for the next day but it was too good I ended up drinking it before we even made it home! If you're in the area and in search or a kava or Kratom bar, stop here! read more

I love kava as a calming substance and an alternative to alcohol when you're not trying to get tipsy but still have a mind altering beverage to sip on socially. I wanted to go on a little tour of Brooklyn's few kava cafes and found myself here at Misfit after finding the other kava bar a few blocks away too small for our little group. The vibe here was....eclectic. The graphics painted on the brick wall outside the cafe feel very emblematic of Bushwick and its witchy vibes, which I appreciated. Inside felt like the inside of a quirky grandma's living room, with doilies, throw pillows with graphics, and stuffed animals/ toys on the different couches. The mismatched furniture made it feel like the inside of a vintage furniture store, which wasn't quite the cafe vibe I was seeking from a kava bar. The menu was pretty cool, with different kinds of hot and cold kava beverages to choose from. I got the fun sounding Cinnamon Toast Punch, a kava drink made with coconut, cinnamon, & vanilla that made it a nice comforting drink. What was aberrant from most other bars and cafes was that they required patrons to be masked the entire time while inside, even at your own table, only allowing you to lower your mask to take a sip, otherwise you're expected to talk amongst your group while masked. They enforce this strictly, as I couldn't be unmasked even for a moment longer than it took to take each sip before the bartender would chide me to put my mask back on. They're a private business and it's completely acceptable for them to enforce their rules, but it wasn't the sort of place I was looking to spend any amount of time in. I find myself conflicted writing this, as I'm all for mask mandates and mask rules, but I suppose I was thrown off since I didn't know about this rule at the cafe even while seated at my table until after I had ordered and paid for my drink. The cafe was eerily quiet too. I wonder if they experienced an incident recently that kept everyone on edge. If so, I'm sorry to hear. Seems like folks usually have a perfectly pleasant experience here with their kind staff, and they put a fun twist on different kava and kratom beverages, but I found myself wanting something different than what was offered here. read more

This is a super cool spot to chillllll and I mean get down and chill. Kava being the original laid back medicine, if you're not chill this will teach you. :) You can go with traditional option, I recommend a double to start with. Try one your first time, and come back later in the week to see how you feel. The spot also has a huge backyard so for folks looking for the outdoor option so EVERYONE can be together, this has it. Wow! Where to start? The warm atmosphere? The beautiful interior? The inclusive space? The welcoming workers? I personally think it's best to start with just the word, "wonderful". It captures everything. The feel. The drinks. The people. The space. Why you would want to drink kava anywhere else, well, that's just beyond me. I came to New York with a dream and after coming here I feel like I have a home. What more could you want?
