Like so many others, I have driven past this place on Ridge Road for almost two years until we finally stopped in the fall. I can say I am so glad I did. The authentic Mediterranean food is delicious and the portions are huge and the price is extremely reasonable. Now, it's my favorite place to eat in NW Indiana. The food is outstanding. I have had all the appetizers, the Steak Kabobs, Chicken Kabob, Falafel, Beef & Chicken Shwermak, my husband loves the Beef Stroganoff. The dinners are served with Safron Rice and side cooked vegetables. The hummus is the best I have ever had. The Hot Lebanese Tea with Mint and Pine Nuts is a special treat before dinner. We always order several orders of Baklava to take home, because we're normally so full but we have dessert for later and it's also outstanding. After dinner, you get a homemade chocolate candy with nuts & raisins and it's delicious! This is a family run restaurant and it's small and yet so special. The decor is minimal like other's have stated and I feel if it was a White table cloth dining experience there would be a whole lot less petty complaints because when it comes down to the nitty gritty of it, the food is really good. When we go to Mishkenuts, I know I'm going to get a consistently delicious, hot, fresh, yummy lunch or dinner. The wait time that others seemed to have commented on is because the food is cooked fresh and to order, so you may have a little wait, but when the food comes out hot, fresh and it tastes so good, that's what counts! The staff is very friendly and there are times you go in and you are the only people at a table and then people start streaming it. I wish we would have found this place sooner. A real Middle Eastern restaurant, and this is a find. The prices are excellent, the food is delicious and high quality. The baba ghanouj was smokey and flavorful. The falafel was crisp on the outside and densely tender inside, with a cool yogurt sauce. We had the lamb kebab for our dinner entree, and it was perfectly char-broiled, served (as we requested), with a large serving of steamed vegetables. The young man who was the server and the cashier was disrespectful and rude. The grape leaves tasted as if the cook spelled the whole cumin bottle on the stuffing. The taste of cumin was so strong that my son didn't even finish one piece. When I called the young man and asked him to take the grape leaves Oder back and not charge us for it, he was rude, he said,(It doesn't work that way, but, Ok.) instead of apologizing and offering a different dish. Went on 12/11. Started with the hummus. Creamy with a spicy, but not overly hot green relish in the middle, served with fresh, warm pita bread. For entrees, my wife had chicken shwarma with rice and steamed veggies. I had the lamb kabobs with 2 sides of fresh veggies instead of the rice. Both meals were excellent and wife had plenty left over. They make your food fresh to order, so don't be in a hurry or I guess you can order carryout. Love the food here. The only drawback, as others have said, is if you come in during a busy time you'll have to wait for your food. They seem to have a pretty busy carry out service there on top of those of us dining in. Often there's just one person working there so things can get slow. This was our first time here. Our friend recommended that we try it. I'm glad we listened. This place is a nice kozy laid back place. The decor is nothing special but the food and service more than make up for it. I recommend ordering an app, salad or both since your entree will take a bit since everything is being made to order it seems. We started with falafel and split a house salad which was very refreshing and big enough for two. My wife wanted the chicken asparagus but they had just used the last of their asparagus for the evening so she got chicken limon which she really enjoyed. I tasted it and the sauce over the chicken and mushrooms was really good. I had a combo with beef schwarma and lamb kabob with fresh veggies. The flavors in this dish went great together the beef was very flavorful and tender but my favorite was the lamb. It was cooked perfectly with a nice pink center. Mishkenut is a gem in Munster, where the dining options are too often chain restaurants. This is a great place to meet up for a casual lunch or dinner and a fantastic carry out choice. The veggie plate is fantastic. Succulent rice topped with broccoli, squash, cauliflower, carrots, topped with light seasoning and a sprinkling of feta (smooth not tart) . The chicken or beef shawarma or lamb kabob are all delicious options as plates or in wonderful wrap type sandwiches. The asparagus chicken is great, as is the lemon chicken, and the beef stroganoff. The beef stroganoff is not made the way you might expect it but it is very good. (Keep in mind that this is a Mediterranean restaurant.) The stuffed grape leaves are the best around in my opinion. The salads are great with a house dressing that is excellent. If you have preferences, let them know. If you are a regular they will make the dishes the way you like them. This is a family business, run by family members. A few dishes vary depending on who is there. We have been regulars here for years and have seen that over the years many of the dishes have become more consistent compared to when they first opened. The pita bread is just pita bread, so if you are used to the soft right out of the oven pitas that a restaurant 20 miles southeast has be prepared to have plain pita bread here. There is nothing wrong with the pita bread here other than the existence of that other great restaurant that set the bar for pita bread pretty high. The appetizers are great, the falafel is better than I have had elsewhere. The prune rolls and the labana are both amazing. The hummus and tabula, both staples at any Middle Eastern restaurant, hold their own against the competition. If you haven't been to this easy to overlook gem in Munster, you are missing out. read more

This place has the best Middle Eastern food in the whole area! Looks can be deceiving--the decor isn't fancy, and the outside is nondescript, but the food is phenomenal! We ordered the Mishkenut sampler to try a little bit of everything, and every single bit of it was delicious! The chicken shawarma is incredibly flavorful, and the kabobs are moist and tender but with a definitive hard sear on the outside from the grill. They also have the best baba ganoush I've ever had. We are longtime customers of Al Bawadi in Bridgeview, and Mishkenut blows them out of the water! The homemade chocolates they bring with the check are also incredible. I really, really like this restaurant but I especially LOVE their lentil soup. I know this is a family-owned restaurant and everything is freshly made. I've been there for lunch at 11am and was told the soup wasn't ready. I've been there for dinner between 7-8pm and they've run out of the lentil soup. I called one evening last week and they didn't have the soup. I just called today at 2:30pm, the same young man answered and told me no soup today but they'll have some Friday. I can't make it Friday so I asked for next week's soup schedule. He explained that a very small portion is made daily but he couldn't tell me what time it's available other than Friday. One my worst experiences. I am very disappointed. I am from the middle east and I know exactly what good food means when it comes to miditerranean foods. I would like ot warn anybody to go to this place, it is a very bad atmosphere, felthy, and on top of that the food is horrible. I went with my wife and we ordered Taboleh, Shish Kabab, Shawarma and some appetizers. 1. We paid $ 5.00 for taboleh for the size of 3 table spoons. Very small quantity for this price. Taste not so great. 2. Appetizers, smells and I question the meat freshness. 3. Shish Kabab, I am usually not picky, and I can eat anything, but I seriously couldn't eat more than two bites due to the bad smell of the meat and it was not juicy. 4. Shawarma: the biggest disappontment, only some hard seasoned meat with nothing on it as tahini sauce, tomato, parsely, fresh onion...etc. and these things are a must with any shawarma. I am very surprised they call this thing shawarma. 5. I read on one of the reviews that they claim it is better than Riza's restaurant. This statement is completely untrue and I do believe that all the reviews are fake and not coming from real people. My advise to anyone is not to waste your money and time on such a felthy place. I will choose McDonalds over this at any given time. I didn't eat my food, but yet I paid the full price and left hungry. read more

Great restaurant. I had a plate of beef kebab and lamb kebab with rice. The kebabs were amazing! I was surprised to see that they were real pieces of meat and not ground meat, that made it much better. The lamb was very good, it was the first time in my life that I had non-processed lamb meat. PEOPLE, EAT AT MISHKENUT!!! Our family just came back home from our first dinner at Mushkenut, at it was wonderful! Yes, the dining room looks plain, and when we came in at around 4 p.m., the place was empty,which is a shame! Don't trust your frst impression! You will understand why as soon as you start eating! The service was very courteous and timely. We ordered a sampler of grape leaves and samoose for an appetizer. The size was very generous, grape leaves were nicely seasoned but not hot, an samoose just melted in your mouth. My husband ordered steak with mushroom sauce as his main dish. It was everythig a steak shold be - jucy, succulent, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and done just as he ordered. The sauce was bursting with mushroom flavor. He was so impresed with his steak, he compared it to the best steakhouses of Chicago and Nashville. My eggpant and falafel sandwich was a generus size and very tasty. Everythng was very nicely seasoned an flavorful, but not as hot as you wolud expect from a mediterranean place. Definitely coming back for more!!
