The chicken salad was delicious - but would have been easier to eat in a wrap than a sandwich roll . Wanted to take some to go it was that yummy. Coleslaw was average . Husband had 3 rib sampler. He said it was very good. baked beans for a side were also good. Food is served on styrofoam with plastic utensils. Beer is sold by the bottle. Maybe I am spoiled by TX BBQ. They no brisket! I got the platter to taste everything. The coleslaw needed more mayo, the mac and cheese was very good, the Jambalaya was unfortunately bad and questionable. It tasted like pace picante sauce as a base/roux. For the meats we had the pull pork it needed for seasoning or marinating, the sausage was good and the ribs were very good! They fell off the bone and the guy who cooked them was proud as he should be. He was very nice. On the baked potatoes they need to put the butter on as its freshly hot to allow it to melt. If you're in town to visit the Jack Daniels Distillery, there are only a few food options nearby. We decided to try out this little BBQ joint in the town square, and were pleasantly surprised. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This no-frills eatery has a certain eclectic Southern charm that perfectly fits the locale.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we stopped by for a late lunch, the menu only offered pork and chicken options like pulled pork, ribs, grilled chicken, etc. There was no beef brisket or any beef at all. I opted for the pulled pork plate that came with two sides, and my wife got a mac and cheese dish covered with pork. I saw a couple of people get a BBQ pizza that looked amazing. Meals are served on Styrofoam plates, which I thought was great. There are several large tables all pushed together plus a few smaller ones on the side, so there is a community aspect here. The inside is adorned with all kinds of signage and train memorabilia, so it sort of looks like a shed inside. Service was quick and they were super friendly, and the prices were reasonable for what you get. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in Lynchburg. read more

We stopped here after a tour at the JD Distillery. Much better bbq than Martin's in Nashville, this is a kitschy little place that has been in business for 28 years. We read the other reviews and ordered a few things off the menu: Piggy Mac n cheese, side of ribs, pork sandwich with red beans and rice. The ribs were really good, with a nice bark. Their sauce was good, too. Service was friendly if a little bit "too much" - we kind of felt rushed by the server because they stopped by so many times. read more

Was trying to go have lunch at a nearby restaurant that had a 2 hour wait and instead walked into the little city center and stumbled upon this little bbq gem!! The most delicious bbq and I had already had a few southern experiences but this one hit! I hadn't had the chance to try gumbo and OMG ‍ I couldn't ate a whole bowl of gumbo and been a happy camper. Food was ok, I had the smoked chicken sandwich which chicken was a bit cold, Mac and cheese was pretty good but could use a little more cheese for flavor. After enjoying the distillery tour, we decided to grab some lunch before hitting the road. BBQ sounded like a great idea--unfortunately, we were wrong. From the outside, the place looked like a charming little spot, and the inside had a similar appeal. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a BBQ snob, but this just wasn't good BBQ. We ordered the Piggy Mac and the Sampler, with sides of coleslaw and baked beans. The Piggy Mac was bland, with a processed cheese flavor and topped with extremely dry, lukewarm pulled pork. The Sampler was even worse. Every item was flavorless--I'm fairly certain nursing home food has more seasoning. The ribs were dry and under-seasoned, the pulled pork was served in a small Styrofoam bowl with the edges warm and the middle cold, and the jambalaya tasted only of bell pepper and tomato sauce, again warm outside and cold inside. The sausage seemed store-bought and lacked any distinct flavor. The baked beans were straight from a can, and the coleslaw was nothing more than shredded cabbage without flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One thing that was consistent during our visit was the constant ding of a microwave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The "hand-squeezed" lemonade tasted like powdered Country Time mix with no real lemon flavor. Service didn't help the experience either. Our server was more interested in sharing stories of youthful delinquency and bragging about stealing a fire hydrant than in providing attentive service. They were tender and fell off the bone. The Mac and cheese was a side which was creamy and tasted homemade. The beans were sweet. Docked 1 star because the ribs still had the membrane in the bottom - but still delicious! Pulled pork sandwich with an upgraded side of Mac and cheese. Devoured within minutes. Very tasty with their spicy BBQ sauce. Smoked Sausage Sandwich with a side of red beans and rice (and more sausage) is packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat! Chill southern hospitality from our server Hannah is all the welcome you need. I like the fact they only have two sauces: spicy and non-spicy it makes it so simple I recommend the sampler platter. The flavors are distinct for each dish namely the pulled pork, jambalaya, ribs, and sausage. We like all the sides such as red beans& rice, potato salad, creamy coleslaw , and baked beans. In a small town where restaurants come and go, BBQ Caboose stands the test of time. Probably not the best BBQ of your life, but very good. Clean setting. Good service. Fun atmosphere. Fairly limited menu compared to most BBQ places, but enough to satisfy the masses. When I was in this past week, I wanted a lighter lunch due to dinner plans later. Our server recommended the piggy mac, which was delicious and fairly light in size, but no doubt packed with calories. Washed it down with a cold beer. While visiting Lynchburg there are not very many choices of restaurants but happy we found Bar-B-Que Caboose! Located in the busy strip mall at the end of town with easy parking and many great stores nearby. Service is extremely fast, friendly and the food was good. The portions are on the smaller side and sides are separate. We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches, chips and mac and cheese. It was enough to get us through our whiskey tastings, and that's all we were looking for. I would definitely recommend stopping here for lunch. Enjoy! read more
