French fries; potato salad; pulled pork and half ribs

We came here after our Jack Daniel's tour and this place didn't disappoint!!! We shared the famous "Crack Jack" sandwich, along with the pulled pork, 1/2 ribs w/potato salad and French fries and NONE of it disappointed!!! Talk about being stuffed and HAPPY!!! If you're in the neighborhood, definitely go and check it out!

Erin, our Mint Julep tour guide, made a stop here before taking us to Jack Daniels. She recommended this place. Food was delicious. Love the decor. Female servers not too friendly though. They seem rushed and overworked. Female cashier was also not friendly either. Server made us buy bottled water and said that's all they got. I guess it's a scam. If the tap water wasn't drinkable then I'll understand. Had the chicken salad and sausage sandwich. Sausage was good but when you bit into it, the meat would pull out from the bread because the sausage casing was so tough. I would come back again for the food. Not the service. Cool magnet at the bottom of my beer glass. Make sure you drink ALL the beer before pushing magnet out. I had a very small amount and it ended up on my lap.

Pulled Chicken Salad and Grilled Cheese On Crack

We weren't too sure walking up but the inside is larger than it appears and super funky, lots of fun to look at. Grilled cheese on crack and a pulled chicken salad - shared both. Was just perfect. Pass on the salad dressing and just use the sauce! Huge generous portion of chicken...so good. And the grilled cheese they have down to a science. The bread was exceptional, pork had a great flavor. Service was friendly and great.

Hot place in town to eat fast service. Ice Tea was delicious. But the food was outstanding Great prices. Plus it was on BBQ pitmasters.

Delicious option for lunch before your distillery tour. Our server handmade the Jack in the bundt German chocolate cake dessert, which was a highlight of the meal for me. So moist with a clear whisky note, crunchy nut topping and well balanced sweetness--a must order for dessert fans! The savories weren't bad either--I liked the briny tang of the vinegar slaw, the baked beans were perfectly on point, and the pulled chicken was delicious when topped with my choice of three available BBQ sauces. BF devoured his half rack of ribs, but thought that the chicken was a tad dry.

Came from LA for the RAMS vs Titans game and completed the Jack Daniel tour and stopped for lunch. Food was great. Big portions. Cute hole in the wall. Great BBQ flavor options. Service was ok. If you get offended easy and expect friendliness this place isn't it. They are down to earth hardworking people that are here to serve you food. Owner came out to ask our opinions and how things were and we let him know it was great. Great experience overall.

AMAZING! Get the grilled cheese on crack. They nailed this sandwich and service was faster than fast food. Highly recommend visiting after the Jack Daniels distillery tour. Also fun to write on the walls and leave your mark. Bring a Sharpie!

First let me say. I don't eat much barbecue. I live in Texas and am not a fan of our smoked bbq. But this is not that! This the best I've ever had. And I thought Kansas City bbq was my favorite. Not anymore. I will come back to Lynchburg TN just for this!! Got the large pulled pork sandwich and full rack of ribs. Both excellent!! Ribs were crazy good though!! And the sauces! I used all 3 and bringing some bottles home. And Im not sharing . Servers were super nice too. And atmosphere was so unique with all the dollar bills hanging and Jack Daniels bottle lights. Very unique with personality! I missed out on dessert as they didn't have any. But it's a good thing because I am popping out of my yoga pants! Maybe next time

I'm used to Texas BBQ so I might not be the best judge here. I found the BBQ okay. Best thing was the pulled pork. I liked that they had Habanero and Scorpion BBQ sauces but found them lacking heat and too sweet. Sausage was tasty but on the small side. I would have liked some pickles, onions and jalapeños. I didn't ask so I'm not sure if they have them but they didn't come with it and they weren't offered. I was there on a not too busy, cold day and the food wasn't that warm. The coleslaw was pretty bland. Fun interior with dollars all over the walls and lots of graffiti.

Came here to fill up our belly with some bbq before the Jack Daniels distillery trail. We got the pull chicken and half rack ribs, with coleslaw and baked beans for the sides. The chicken is a bit dry but goes ok with the bbq sauce. The ribs are great, especially with the scorpion sauce. The charted meat with the kick of the bbq sauce is delicious. The place is packed, service is quick and attentive. Def the local bbq spot to try if you are in town.

    What are the vegan options?

Um. . . . . It's a BBQ joint in Lynchburg and probably the best in TN. If you want vegan, Jack Daniels is right down the street. I hear they have an amazing vegan selection of spirits. Cheers!

How long is the typical wait on a Saturday to get in around 1pm?

    12 minutes. Typically.

It's held annually in October and is such a lovely drive up to Lynchburg! Gary N did a great job of accurately capturing the "feel" of the event in his numerous photos posted here! There are a lot of vendors set up for this event selling eats, t-shirts, and more. There's a large, covered pavilion where the judging happens, and spectators can watch from bleachers. I don't recall the number of judges but I do recall at least one local "celebrity" newscaster among the judges. The Styrofoam containers for judging are deftly prepared and rushed to the judging area with immense intensity - it really is something to watch, and the "food runner" will scream at you to "get out of the way" if they need to! Others referenced free samples, which wasn't the case on our visit, except for the international area. No guests/visitors get samples of the competition BBQ to my knowledge. If you want lunch, you'll need to get something from the vendors. However, the international area competitors did offer us ample samples of their BBQ. They were all very friendly, too! The competition area is fairly spread out, so wear comfortable shoes and the entryway is sloped, so there's that. It's free as far as I know, and everyone should attend at least one championship BBQ competition - the Jack Daniels event is a well-run, fun one to attend.

Coming from Chattanooga area we chose to take the scenic drive down the old highway from Monteagle through Sewanee. As you arrive into town you can start seeing the smoke and smelling the BBQ. This is a very small town but everyone seems to be selling parking. $5-$10 mostly. We parked very close to downtown. The square is fully covered with tents and vendors as you walk in, live country music is playing. All the downtown shops are open and plenty to explore and see in the town. However, food is in our mind and we continue down to the food tents and competition area. Lots of free samples, but I did not see any from the competitors which was a disappointment. But still plenty to see and try. They also have food instructions, vendor demos, Etc I do wish they would move this so it is not the same weekend as Tennessee vs Alabama. We left early to catch the game as I am sure many do. At the least put a big screen up for the crowd. Lynchburg is a great small town and one you should visit. Jack Daniels is a short walk and free tour. Great day.

Now that I live in Texas, I am becoming quite the barbecue aficionado, working my way through all the regional styles this country has to offer. Tennessee BBQ?? - sign me up! This stop was well worth adding to the list. We were seated quickly and decided to split a combo plate, the Barrelhead (something?). It is exactly what you want from a combo. Brisket, ribs, chicken, cornbread, and two sides. We went with the sweet potato casserole and onion rings. The standout items were the ribs and that sweet potato casserole. The ribs were tender, flavorful, and the kind you keep reaching for even when you are already full. The casserole was rich and comforting, easily one of the best sides on the table. The chopped brisket was a bit on the dry side, and I found myself wishing we had asked for sliced brisket instead. This feels like the kind of place that would happily accommodate that kind of request. The cornbread was just okay, nothing memorable, but not a dealbreaker. Even with 2 of us splitting the plate, we still had leftovers, which is always a win and Wayne the dog who enjoyed them - would give it 2 paws up!. The four of us could not resist trying one of the newer desserts, the peach cobbler with ice cream. It comes out warm in a small cast iron dish, which is always a good sign. I do not know why I keep expecting fresh peaches in these desserts, they are almost always canned, but it did not matter. The dish was completely cleaned out in minutes.

I arrived for a fairly late meal (~1:45) so it wasn't super crowded. The parking lot is easy to access. There were a few people eating inside and several carryout orders that occurred during my visit. The inside is adorably decorated in your usual southern bbq joint style -- fun pig memorabilia and whatnot. They have a pretty large selection of bbq and an even larger selection of desserts. In retrospect, I definitely regret not getting a slice of cake or pie to go! I am usually a pulled pork girl, but it is pretty unusual to see smoked pulled chicken -- most places only do half or quarter birds -- and I like pulled chicken a lot, so I ventured out and ordered that! I got the smaller sized plate lunch, which comes with a piece of Texas toast and two sides. I went with curly fries and corn on the cob. Overall, the food was good! The pulled chicken was nice and smoky and the perfect serving size. It was a teeny bit dry but that's typical bbq chicken territory and nothing a good dash of creamy, peppery white bbq sauce couldn't fix. Good sauce! My corn on the cob wasn't super sweet -- probably not quite in season yet -- but it was cooked nicely and very juicy. The fries gave strooooong Arby's vibes such that I think they might actually *be* Arby's fries lol, but there's nothing wrong with that. Especially when they were cooked so fresh and came out hot and crispy! The toast was a lovely buttery companion and my sweet tea was on point. The service here though...THAT gets a 5/5, or really a 10/5 if such a thing were possible. I sometimes feel like southern hospitality is a myth or at least an oversimplification of southern social norms, but at this place it's real and sincere. The woman who took my order -- the owner, I later learned, having purchased the restaurant after years as an employee -- treated me and everyone else who walked in the doors with such warmth, kindness, interest, and attentiveness that it made my entire day. Truly everyone was made to feel so welcome. She catered to some older ladies who came in for a birthday, checked in on me in a nonjudgmental but caring way since I was by myself, and greeted regulars with a smile and by their name. She made the place feel like joy! Definitely give this place a go and enjoy the tasty food and wonderful folks. I'd happily return.
