    Spicy fried tofu

Came to Miss Shang after a friend recommended it. Despite having to wait an hour to sit, the food was well worth it. We ordered the signature mushroom chicken dish which was served on a pan similar to a paella plan. This does take about 45 mins to prep so just eat slowly. When it arrived though, the aroma was remarkable! The rice had an unctuous chicken flavor that did taste of chicken bouillon mixed with the roasted chicken juices. There were also ample mixed mushrooms mixed in the rice to bump up that umami. Sitting atop there was the roast chicken which was really tasty! Despite some small pieces of bone, the dish was truly delectable. We also got the beef brisket soup and we were all shocked by the mint flavor in the herbs that were added it. It seems like an odd mix but it was soooooo good! We also added a few small bites like the tofu with chili oil, grilled truffle shrimp skewer and grilled lamb skewers. All in all, I would totally return!

Forgot what we tried to order but "they ran out of poached eggs" then proceeded to ask if we wanted sunnyside up lol. Didn't think anything really stood out besides the chicken rice which was delicious! Unfortunately it takes 45 mins and we were full by then. Never had yunnan food maybe my tastes buds just didn't fit it but definitely get that chicken n rice!

Came here for what people have been calling the Chinese / Asian paella, which is one of the wild mushrooms and roasted chicken rice dishes. Heads-up, it takes 40 minutes. The dish looks beautiful, but I can't say I was the biggest fan because the mushrooms were chopped really small, which disguised many, many tiny shards of chicken bones. So you have to eat slowly and carefully. The rice was very fragrant, though. We got the crispy tofu as an appetizer, which was drenched in chili oil and cilantro. Very tasty, a bit on the salty side. The cauliflower was fresh and a nice veggie dish to complement to all the carbs and meat. The beef rice noodle was good; slippery noodles, clean, light broth. No actual meat though, just pieces of fatty tendon. I dripped some of the chili oil from the tofu to add some more flavor. The restaurant was busy when we were there so it was quite loud and energetic, but the staff there were attentive with replenishing our water and giving plenty of napkins.

Quickly served, good quality food. Came here to try the scallion salt roasted chicken with wild mushroom fried rice, which was very good! It was a large serving and even after splitting it with my friend, there was a small amount for leftovers. Two of us were seated right away on a Wednesday around 5:40pm, when it was fairly empty. For my drink, I tried the kumquat lemon green tea with chia seeds, which I enjoyed and wasn't too sweet. We also got the skewer combo with 2 grilled lamb skewers and one shrimp skewer. The lamb was good, but my friend didn't like the shrimp as much.

This restaurant is quite innovative with their Chinese dishes, resembles Yunnan a lot since they're also known for these fusions. I came around noon time on a Saturday and the wait for a table was quite long, but worth. The tables are nicely apart, and the service is great as well. I tried the Tomato Beef Rice Noodle Soup which was quite interesting! It had a spicy kick to it, and they added some sort of lemon fragrance in the soup. Not my favorite, but it's definitely worth a try for its uniqueness. I also tried the Scallion Chicken over Mushroom Rice. The dish was perfect, not too oily and packed with flavor. The chicken was so juicy and tender, highly recommend honestly. This restaurant is most definitely worth a try!

Was super excited to try Miss Shang as I love Yunnan flavors! We came here with a group of 4 and joined the in-person waitlist inside. We waited about 30 min at noon before getting seated. I knew we had to get the roasted chicken with mushrooms rice and we were warned that it would take 45-50 min to be ready and they were right. It's worth it though and we happily ate our other dishes while waiting for the chicken rice. We also tried the housemade pork meatballs with tomato, mint beef soup and stir fried cauliflower. Everything was really tasty - the meatballs were super tender and loved how light and fresh the soup was. I do think overall the dishes are pricy and for a beef hotpot, there wasn't much in the beef soup other than slices of beef and mint. The roast chicken rice was truly the star of the meal and I'd come back just for this. The chicken is super moist and tender (even the white meat) and the skin is delicious with a combo of five spice and lemongrass flavor. The rice is full of flavor with a nice crispy bottom and the morel mushrooms add such a nice umami and earthiness to the rice. Definitely come try the chicken rice! We'll need to see if we can get it takeout next time.

I heard about this place recently and wanted to try it out and it did not disappoint! I personally really enjoyed the tangy beef rice noodle soup, crispy yunan tofu and the beef fried rice. The food was just so flavorful and delicious and different from a lot of Chinese restaurants around here. However, the online ordering was a little confusing but we managed to order with the server. But I definitely recommend this Chinese restaurant in San Mateo!

5/5 the food was so good, loved the spices in the yunnan tofu and the lamb skewers 5/5 ambience was taking my friends and I back to fond memories of travel. My friend also noted the sleek look of the silverware and dishware 5/5 service was straightforward and friendly My friends and I were looking to try someplace new, and I came across this place on tiktok because the post i saw was advertising the "chinese paella". We saw the initial price for the dish, and figured we would try a similar fried rice dish. I cant remember the last time I had fried rice that memorable. So flavorful and the chicken was just right. Now that we love this place we wanted to commit to coning back on one of our birthdays and sharing that large plate of fried rice

We hadn't been to this area to eat in about a year, so it took us a moment to realize this was a new restaurant in this location. Menu is different but we were glad there were still rice noodles on the menu. We ordered their signature tangy beef noodles, and we overall liked it The presentation in the copper kettles was quite dramatic and also kept the noodles piping hot. The soup base has a strong tomato flavor, which was different and tasty. The beef was very tender. Service is not overly friendly, but they keep things moving for sure. As long as the food is good and everything comes out as ordered, no real complaints from me. They do automatically add 18% tip to the check, but they make sure you are well aware of it.

today my friend stopped by and got the grilled mala crunchy chicken bites tangy beef rice noodle soup yunnan herb beef brisket hot pot dai style banana lead wrapped wild mushrooms and it was quiteeeee good additionally it's a very straightforward service - sit down and can order from the QR code. they do come by after to confirm which is nice and helpful. pretty casual and chill ambiance.

Delicious omg! The tofu was definitely a table favorite. I think they've revamped their menu so the new food items have improved. Such good flavor overall and great service. The restaurant is p spacious and I didn't have to wait too long. All the tables around us had a huge soup/pot so we need to go back for that.

Quite new restaurant at San Mateo. This is my first visit as most of the time I am in the area the restaurant is busy. The restaurant has plenty of tables. The interior is simple with semi open kitchen concept. It seems they changed the menu as some dishes are not in menu anymore. You order via qr code on your table. I ordered wild mushroom stuff roasted chicken rice and golden fried pork strip. They gave complimentary small plate of pickle cucumber and it is yummy. The golden fried pork was ready pretty quickly. It was yummy. Cannot stop eating it. The wild mushroom stuff roasted chicken rice took sbout 30 to 40 and we were informed when we ordered it. It comes with large flat round plate like paella serving plate. When I saw it , immediately in my mind of "chinese style paella". It is quite pricey but portion is considered huge. It was yummy but seems they put a lot of butter. The roast chicken is so flavorful, juicy and tender. This is my favorite. The one make me re-think on going back is the mandatory 18% gratuity. I just don't understand the justification. No much service and force customer to give 18%. For me 15% is justifiable and then let customer decide if customer want to give more. Yhere is the only draw back I have. Other than that I enjoyed my dinner.

No matter for me because I love protein and loaded up my meal with just meats and shrimp. The mushroom and herbal broth came with plenty of mushroom so we ate that as well. I probably wouldn't come back again since the AYCE is quite limited in variety. However, great experience here! Quick and friendly service.
