Chicken and waffles were spicy, sweet, crunchy and chicken was so juicy. 10/10. Shrimp and grits with crab had the right amount of spice with delicious fried green tomatoes. And the biscuits, a literal everything bagel in biscuit form. Lots of options, service is fast, high quality food with good portions.

Overall, a lovely experience at Miss Shirley's today celebrating my best friend's birthday. I have absolutely heard all the hype surrounding Miss Shirley's from many people and I was so excited to put the hype to the test. The beverages were prepared really well, I got a colada beverage with pineapple and coconut milk that was very refreshing paired with rum. I liked the little pieces of pineapple included in the cup, and the portion was decent. My friend ordered the sunrise mimosa with a beautiful gradient color and with mango juice. I liked that they had so many options for cocktails and mocktails. We mostly ordered appetizers. We had to try the jalapeño cornbread, which came highly suggested. We all agreed it was very tasty. We also ordered the everything bagel biscuits with peach jam. The biscuit consistency and size were great. It was cool they incorporated cream cheese baked in too- very innovative! We also ordered the hot honey fried chicken deviled eggs and those were promptly devoured too. I opted for an item from the lighter option menu- the shrimp and corn chowder was tomato based with a lot of yummy chunky fresh stewed vegetables in every bite. I really did not see much shrimp in the chowder, which was a little disappointing. The birthday girl opted for the two style egg breakfast and she really enjoyed that! I also added a side of the cranberry maple sausage that was on the menu as being unique to the location and it was pretty good definitely lean, but satisfied the hankering. Service was ok and checked in on us often.

I've been to Miss Shirley's three or four times because I genuinely wanted to support a Black-owned business. I kept coming back thinking maybe I'd have a better experience, but after this visit, I don't see myself returning. To be fair, one thing they do well is seating. I've always been seated quickly, even when it's busy, and the location is convenient. The food, however, has been consistently average. During this visit, I was seated inside and spent a good part of my meal swatting away flies, which wasn't pleasant. I ordered the omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. The biscuit was easily the best part of the meal. warm, soft, and buttery. The omelet was oily, and the hash browns were cold by the time they reached the table. My friend ordered the cheeseburger and said the bun tasted stale. It was falling apart as she ate it, which made the meal even more disappointing. I really wanted to love this place, but after several visits, I just don't think the food lives up to its reputation. Baltimore has so many excellent brunch spots that consistently deliver better food and a better overall experience. At this point, Miss Shirley's feels more like a destination for tourists than a place locals return to because the food keeps them coming back. I hope they can improve the consistency because I'd love to see them live up to the reputation that first brought me in.

Honestly, I was not prepared for Miss Shirley's to actually be this good. We ordered so many different types of things and I wasn't disappointed in any of them. We pulled up randomly on a Saturday after walking around for brunch. We were seated in about 20 minutes, despite them not taking reservations. When we were seated, I was immediately impressed by the Kids activities they offer. For Kids, they give them an etch a sketch and a card with things like conversation, starters and trivia, to promote convo and no screen time. Love! I actually like how they treat kids as a whole. Instead of a typical kids "meal," they essentially have a Kids Bento box that is automatically served with fresh fruit and applesauce or yogurt. Everything about it was super cute. Service overall: overall, the service here was pretty good. Well, I do feel like it took a bit for refills at one point, our server was really attentive and made some good recommendations. Food: wow! The food here was really good. We got the fried green tomatoes and added crab on top. It was bomb. I can't remember the exact name of the skillet I got, but I got the skillet that had fried chicken, one of their bomb everything but the bagel biscuits, greens, gravy, an egg and cheddar grits. I am rarely blown away by everything on my plate, but I have to acknowledge that everything in the skillet had great flavor on its own and when combined. At our table, we were not disappointed by anything. We spent about $127 on brunch for three adults and one kid, all with beverages. I think there might've been one cocktail. We also had an appetizer. Given the portion sizes and the flavor of the food, I would say that that's not bad at all. I will definitely be back here and would recommend.

First time visiting Miss Shirley's yesterday and had an excellent visit! We were seated quickly and our server was super friendly! The fried deviled eggs were delish and a little spicy! I appreciate that they do so much for allergies and cross contamination. The service is great too. I really tried to like the pancakes but they were so beyond dry that I ran out of syrup and whipped cream trying to prevent the chalk taste in my mouth. By far the worst GF pancakes I have ever had. I was also disappointed that they do not offer lattes. The strawberries were fresh at least and the bacon was fine.

I know this Maryland favorite . However,my food was very disappointing I sent two entrees back . I ordered the "great your grits on " blackened salmon no blackened seasoning they use oldbay. The waiteness suggested the fried chicken gravy omelette under cooked and chicken was hard . When cut the omelette eggs started running .This also was sent back .Buffalo Shrimp Deviled Egg Platter . Was ok great presentation however need some salt and mayonnaise not creamy .The manager was great was still trying to satisfy me I keep my grits and ordered a side of bacon . I also be careful in which garage you park in because they don't validate all garages . African American entrees but the seasoning wasn't good. I'm sorry oldbay is not answer . Next time I'm in town I would love to offer my service because miss Shirley wouldn't be pleased. Ambiance was great for familles. You are able hold a conversation amongst the table. It is a Baltimore icon for a reason! The Inner Harbor location is just as good as the original too. True, parking can be tricky, but there are plenty of public garages within a short walk. The food... stellar. Just be warned, the portions are huge!! So, if the prices seem a touch high, keep in mind, you'll easily have two meals from one entrée! The service was good, very quick, and very friendly. The location is perfect too, right at the end of the main stretch of the inner harbor walk (Pratt Street). We went during the holiday season, and the seasonal offerings were really good! Their main menu is always delectable though. It was a tough decision! There are too many other glowing reviews for me to try to add anything new, so check it out for yourself if you haven't yet!

Miss Shirley's was theeeeee perfect Saturday breakfast/brunch spot to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We had heard great things about this spot from our realtor and used the occasion as an opportunity to check it out! from the second we walked in to Miss Shirley's, the vibe felt warm and inviting. They were playing oldies, it was cozy inside, and after coming in from the freezing cold it honestly felt like a much needed hug. When you walk in, one thing you can't miss is how many awards they have posted all over the walls (especially if your entire party isn't there as they don't seat without the whole party being there and you have to sit in the waiting area up front). This restaurant has a million awards and articles highlighting their crab cakes. After seeing all the buzz on the wall, we came in to the restaurant excited to order the crab cake Benedict, only to find out they no longer serve crab cakes. Our waitress explained that they removed them because they weren't meeting the restaurant's "standard," which I guess I respect, but we were still genuinely so sad because that's what we were most looking forward to. Thankfully, their menu is full of amazing sounding meals and we're still able to end up having a really good meal. One person in our group ordered the shrimp and grits, two of us got the chicken and waffles and swapped the honey mustard aioli for hot honey, and the fourth ordered the banana bread French toast. Overall everything was tasty, but the chicken on the chicken and waffles was a little overcooked and tough, which was the only real downside. The clear star of the table was the shrimp and grits. The plating was unique and really tasteful, and it somehow elevated such a classic comfort dish. It was honestly some of the best shrimp and grits I've had up north. We also ordered a side of hash browns and those were amazing too, super crispy and satisfying. Service was another big highlight. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, and we felt taken care of the entire time. Even though we were disappointed about the crab cakes, we still had a great experience and I'd absolutely come back.

I was recommended this spot for breakfast by a former local. It did not disappoint. The honey hot deviled eggs had just enough kick that it could be easily tamed by the sweet honey. I got the Eddie's Two Eggs any style. The pimento cheese biscuit was to die for! My friend got the chicken and cheddar waffles. The waffles almost looked like mini donuts. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable of the menu. I enjoyed a Shirley's crush - which was delicious and warmed up the insides on a frigid day!

Everything's been said about Miss Shirley's Cafe so I'll just talk about myself. I might need more glamorous profile photos since I only got one like in 9 years on my last Shirley's review. Sure, it's flattering that fake-seeming bots send me DMs, but what I can really use is some better review metrics. The Crabby Omelet was action-packed. Even the cheddar is crabby and the grits are more vivid than usual. It's best to go on the crab side of things but if you don't dig on crustaceans at least stick to the oven-mitt logo entrees. Don't miss the stunning grapefruit brulee. I haven't sampled the Kid's Boxes but can verify that years ago, a customer around two years old was absolutely thrilled with the visual aspect before taking a bite, rapidly waving his hands. For spontaneous/disorganized/reservation-averse types like this writer, the ultra-popular Miss Shirley's requires more advance planning than usual.

We were only in town for 15 hours and wanted to make sure we tried the best restaurant so we asked around and everyone mentioned the same place time and time again. Thankfully even though it was PACKED we were able to snag a table pretty quickly. Let me tell you Miss Shirley's did not disappoint!! I loved the Spicy Shirley (an amazing spinoff the Bloody Mary) really the best one I've EVER had. We ordered pimento cheese biscuits, fried green tomatoes and the gravel train skillet...it was so much food and every bite was insanely delicious. It's easy to see why this restaurant is loved by so many. Take the time to have a meal if you are in town, you won't regret it. read more

We were in Baltimore for the Christmas Village and decided to stop in for Miss Shirley's for breakfast. We didn't see a way to make a reservation, but luckily there was no wait for smaller parties. We were greeted rather quickly once seated and drink orders taken. We got the caramel apple cider mimosa, which was very festive for the season. For food we got the salmon benedict, eggs any style, and then got a 3rd entree of the blueberry and white chocolate chip pancakes to share. The grits that came with the eggs any style were some of the best I have had and the pancakes were light and fluffy. The benedict wasn't anything to rave about compared to the other items we got. While we aren't in Baltimore often it's definitely a place to check out when in the area. read more

While in Baltimore, I did some research on Yelp (of course), and found this staple. I was really impressed with the history behind the name. The service was absolutely nothing less than perfect,, the food was fresh, tasty, and unique. If we're ever back in Baltimore, we would definitely stop by Ms. Shirley's again. And they must do some serious business because they had four eating areas, one of them was a large overflow. It looked like it was previously a different restaurant because it was across the hall from the main entrance. So they do pretty well. read more

Food was good. Service was attentive. I do think there's too much hype for this place. It was pretty crowded. At 11am on Sunday, there was a 30-40 minute wait for a table of 6. Once we got our table, we were crammed in to a table of 4. We barely had any space on our table once we got our food. Don't order the coffee! It was watery and sour and they charged us $5 a cup for a tiny cup!! I ordered the shrimp and grits on fried green tomatoes. It was tasty and I would order again. But they shortchanged me a shrimp. A friend got the same dish and he had 6 shrimps. :( The portions, apart from my dish, were big. You can definitely share an entree between 2 people. The stuffed French toast was delicious but a bit too heavy to eat for one person. We all shared it as dessert. read more

Not a huge fan and apparently, this was my second time here though I have no recollection of the first time. Chose Miss Shirley's due to the vegan menu for my wife and the gluten free options for me. It's a nice comfortable diner ish place and the service was fine. Nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about. I got their breakfast bowl with added turkey sausage and a second egg. First, while I get things cost more these days it is outrageous to charge $20 for a breakfast bowl that's mostly corn and one egg and no other protein. Mine ended up being almost $25 with the add ons. As for taste, it was meh. Needed a lot of salt and pepper. The turkey sausage was good but everything else was bland. I also got a short stack of their gluten free blueberry pancakes. While I appreciate the offering, these were dry and mostly tasteless. Desperately needed the butter and syrup. So, nope, not a fan. read more

Miss Shirley's is where I tell everyone to go who is visiting Baltimore for the first or the tenth time if they haven't been. Yes the wait can be a bit long, but it's worth it! I've tried a handful of items and honestly they've all been tasty. The biscuits are warm and fluffy. The drinks are fantastic. The crab hash is a favorite, but my ultimate go to is the shrimp and grits served on fried green tomatoes. Honestly such a good brunch spot and Baltimore staple! read more

Whether you're looking for a good meal near the inner Harbor or something with a little extra seasoning, Miss Shirley's is the place to go. In this case, I chose it because it was close to the hotel of some visiting friends, but I also wanted to give them tasty options since we were meeting at lunch. Of course, Miss Shirley's has some amazing breakfast/brunch dishes, but there are also plenty of tasty lunch items. Our table ended up having two of the Bayou omelette - mine with grits and the other with hashbrowns, chicken and waffles, and for a little extra delight, my friends shared the French toast. Every dish had character and was well seasoned. Even the rolls that came with omelettes had butter in the middle. Cozy seating and friendly, attentive service make this an establishment you cannot pass by. Visit them soon! read more

We had brunch here after my bestie's graduation. She likes this restaurant so I generally expected it to be super good. Overall, I'd say it was fair. Presentation was great but there was nothing to die for... Ambiance was cool. Typical of a southern-style restaurant with a Baltimore accented theme on the menu, anchoring the decor in true MD pride. I should have known by the photos in the booth though and the lack of any down-home Southern faces in the space that this was not what I thought. I ordered the "Get You Grits" with Blackened Salmon and Fried Green Tomatoes. It had a remoulade-like based, also. While this dish had so much potential, it fell flat with overcooked salmon, grainy grits and soggy fried green tomatoes. This is not your mama and 'nems Southern fare but it was edible.My mimosa was good. Servers were cool. Luz was very attentive and handled our service with care. I will note that the restrooms are not in the restaurant but in the adjoining building. The wait was not long and we were seated with 20 minutes. We are, we drank, and we left. while visiting, i was sooo excited to try this spot. and miss shirley's truly slayed it down!! the cornbread was very toasty and sweet with a little spice. the peppadew jalapeño butter was an amazing tangy touch. the gravy train skillet was delicious! the biscuit was fluffy, the grits tasty, and the chicken was really good. my fav part was the greens. they were cooked really well and perfectly salted, breaking up the richness of the dish very nicely. the staff were friendly and attentive. the inside is very cute and aesthetic, it had such a lively atmosphere and welcoming southern vibe. i will DEFINITELY be coming back anytime i'm in baltimore!! read more

Miss Shirley's blew me away. Far from being a greasy breakfast diner, the food hit the perfect balance of seasoning, spice, and oil. It's tough to achieve breakfast flavors without going overboard on fat and salt, but they did it. Upon arrival, I was promptly seated with a kind server. The decor was clean and classic American without gimmick. I ordered the fried chicken, biscuits and gravy omelette and found it to exceed my expectations. The fried chicken was more lean protein and light on the breading, so it aligned with healthy eating and left me full without the bloat. This place was highly rated on here and it certainly did not disappoint. I was not aware of all the accolades and awards the place had going in, but I was certainly pleased that they exceeded my expectations. I got the southern slammer sandwich, and it was so tasty - but the grits were some of the best I've ever had. Our server Melissa was attentive without being intrusive and also mindful about allergies. What really let me know this place is well run top to bottom was seeing the manager help clear tables and do check ins with us. Additionally the restaurant was clean. The hubby ordered their pancake special which was caramel. The portions are HUGE! Honestly, it's the best stuffed French toast I've ever had. I loved the coconut cream filling. It is very rich but so good! Hubby liked his as well. I easily could have been persuaded to return the next morning but alas we gave another place closer to our hotel a try. I also got chicken & waffle sliders to go that had a nice kick and the waffle texture was great! My cousin enjoyed his food as well. I ordered the white toast and it is the 2" thick, low quality, tasteless white bread they use for their French toast. Whatever. The utensils are one step above plastic - they are light-weight, cheap, rough edged crap you might imagine in a prison. Whatever. The plastic containers of half and half were already on the table, sitting there at room temp. Again, whatever. The waitress dropped off the bill, said to use the QR code to pay unless we were using cash, then took off. If we wanted to split the bill, I guessed we would need to wait for her to come back around. So, I offered to pay the astoundingly high bill. I open the QR link and the first things that popped are the tip options with 20% pre-selected. All told the bill was $97 for two people. When I got home I glanced at the itemized bill: *They charged us $16 for two cups of coffee with one refill each. *a 20 % tip was already included! Apparently, they add 20% onto checks over $50. Of course it's over $50 when you charge $16 for mugs of coffee, and $$ for sides of crappy white toast. Make no mistake, this is my fault for paying with the QR code and not combing through the itemized bill first. I guess I'm not used to going to neighborhood joints expecting to get fleeced. My suggestion: go around the corner to Spoons Cafe on Cross St: high quality food and you won't feel robbed blind when you look at the bill.

The dessert passion fruit pie was a great way to end, also shared, but the crust was a little too thick and the dollop on top did kind of over power the curd. The birthday sprinkles (it wasnt either of our birthdays) were cute. We will be back. Especially to try the raw bar (We're pregnant and didnt want to risk it).

Great, family-friendly breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. Sociable and helpful employees, extremely wonderful food, somewhat reasonable price tag. Very vibrant decorations and overall look. All-in-all: one fantastic time! Many people claim that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and whether you decide to believe it or not, Miss Shirley's Cafe stands as physical proof. I happened to be in Baltimore, Maryland over spring break when I came across this cafe. The reason it had caught my eye was because it was advertised as a restaurant visited by Guy Fieri on his prominent television show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." If you are unfamiliar about the concept of this production, Guy Fieri, an American restaurateur, visits various restaurants across the nation, and interviews the owner while sampling their food. His visit to Miss Shirley's resulted in an increase of the cafe's popularity. Even if you're paying no attention to your surroundings at all, Miss Shirley's is hard to miss. The exterior of the cafe is decorated in vibrant, colorful window panes that accent the uniqueness of the restaurant. It has an attractive modern-yet-rustic feel, which makes it a popular spot for people of any age. It is also brilliantly located on the corner of a block; the sun does not fail to succeed at bringing out the building to anyone passing by, and it rests on the Inner Harbor waterfront, where most of Baltimore's visitors are. (However, Miss Shirley's Cafe is located in several other places!) Once I entered this restaurant, I was astonished. The entire place was flooded with all of the awards Miss Shirley's had won; the cafe was even Zagat Rated, which means that it was considered a top restaurant, and they did not fail to flaunt it. Vintage decorations and photographs were dangling from the ceilings and resting on the walls, which continued the color scheme resembled on the cafe's exterior. Over the speakers, cheerful 60s music was playing at a respectable volume. To me, the whole scene shouted one thing: family friendly. The employees offered a wide range of diversity in seating areas: outside, a covered patio, and of course, indoors. In general, there were a lot of seats, which could prevent a long wait. The family-friendly theme was emphasized even more after our kind and upbeat waiter sat us down in a large, comfortable booth. He gave us our menus after verifying that none of us had allergies or had, and we soon realized with pleasure that the food had even more diversity than the seating (however, it was mostly Southern-based). After a lot of contemplating, I had decided to purchase Belgian Waffles with Strawberries, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Orange Juice. The waiters were even willing to accept fully customized off-the-menu orders and serve vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options. Once everyone had ordered, the wait wasn't short but it certainly wasn't long, and everything was correct except for one small side mishap which they had offered to fix. I vividly remember thinking, "that was probably the best breakfast food I'd had in a long time," and it certainly was. The orange juice was fresh, and Miss Shirley's offered free refills. The waffles paired with the strawberries were perfection: the waffle was fluffy, yet delicate, and the strawberries provided a sweet, tangy taste. The bacon was cooked perfectly: crisp, but with a bursting flavor. I even sampled some of my families' food, and I was not disappointed at all. Ok let me start off by saying, I like Miss Shirley's. What I'm not a fan of is their food inconsistency. One day you'll go and the food is perfectly seasoned, and the next time around, you're like where's the seasoning, did they forget? It's a great food spot, but if you're a local, it's a hit or miss. My other issue, are they serious! We are still dealing with a pandemic, why is there over 20 people sitting in the lobby all awaiting an hour to be seated. That's seriously an easy fix with the availability of technology. They should take online or phone reservations, maybe require people to show up 30 minutes before their reservation, stay in their car until they get that second text message or something! But they need a new game plan cuz that foolishness that was happening in the lobby today, that was unacceptable! Last time I was at the restaurant, I ordered the chicken and cheddar green onions waffles. The chicken was too hard, didn't enjoy that but the waffles were so flavorful and that buttery cheddar gave it a bit of a spice. So today, I decided to order the chicken and waffles again but got a side of the cinnamon danish pancakes. Thank goodness the chicken was not dry this time, but still not a fan. Usually I eat a couple of pieces and wait for flavor to explode on my tongue, but I'm always disappointed. The waffles were bland today, so very sad. I did enjoy the pancakes, I would definitely order that again. Even my friend commented how much better the pancakes were compared to the waffles. My son ordered the stuffed French toast of the month: Cherry chocolate cheesecake. My sample tasted pretty good. He also enjoyed it, but said it seemed like it was mostly bread and not enough filling. My friend got gumbo with a side of cornbread (ordered it later, so I forgot to take a picture). As you can see, we like to share food at our table. I wasn't impressed after my gumbo sample, all I taste it was grits and vegetables. My friend really enjoyed it, but said she mostly tasted chicken and wish it had more meat. I told her well according to the menu it was supposed to also have sausage, shrimp and crawfish meat (judge the picture for yourself). We decided to sit in the cozy back patio area, which was sheltered and perfect for a relaxing meal. The ambiance is casual but very clean and well-kept, making it a great spot for a laid-back brunch. I opted for the CINNAMON APPLE BREAD FRENCH TOAST, scrambled eggs, and chicken sausage. The French toast had a wonderful, comforting sweetness, with a honey bun cake-like texture that made each bite delicious. While it was a bit sweet for my personal taste, I could definitely see why others would love it. The scrambled eggs were cooked just right, and adding a little salt was the perfect touch. The chicken sausage was incredibly flavorful, a great protein option to round out the meal. We recently visited Miss Shirley's for breakfast and, while there were some highs, the experience left much to be desired. We requested to be seated anywhere but didn't anticipate how chilly the outside patio would be. A heater would've been a great touch, especially for the poor kid at the next table who was bundled up in cloth napkins, and for my sister who sat with goosebumps the entire time. Our server, Jonathan, was fantastic--friendly, prompt, and efficient. We were in a bit of a hurry, and he ensured we got our food quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The chicken and waffles, a signature dish at Miss Shirley's, fell short. The waffles weren't crispy on the outside, instead soft all around like they had been pre-made and left sitting. But the real letdown was the chicken--over-breaded, dry, and frankly some of the worst chicken tenders I've had in years. Even the delicious flavored butter couldn't save the dish. Our group had mixed reviews on their meals. The western omelet was excellent, but the breakfast bowl was under-seasoned. I also had an orange crush, which was disappointingly just orange juice. I loved this place! The Benne Seed Chicken 'N Waffles were so good, it is tempting me to drive an hour back to Baltimore just to have them again. A hotel worker recommended the place to us, just a short walk from the inner harbor, it is well worth going to. The menu had all kinds of dishes you have never seen or heard of before. So many things sounded good, it was difficult making a choice. A party of 5 of us ordered 4 different breakfasts, and every one of us simply loved the food. The plates are big, I am glad we went for "brunch" because the chicken and waffles were so filling I didn't eat again the rest of the day. But oh, what waffles! White Cheddar and Green onion waffles served with Benne Seed fried chicken with a mustard aoli, the waffles are topped with an amazing jalepeno and peppadew pepper butter. I asked for extra butter because the taste and little kick was addictive! Another winner was the coconut stuffed french toast, everyone had a bite and agreed it was very tasty. Our server was a lot of fun and very knowledgable, the atmosphere kind of had a modern / retro diner feel to it. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m., and although there was a wait of approximately 15 minutes, it was manageable. The service was professional and friendly, which added to the overall positive experience. I ordered the Maryland omelet, and I must say, I was impressed with the house-made Biscuits served alongside. They were paired with a specially crafted sauce that had a delightful balance of tanginess and sweetness, providing a refreshing taste. Visited this place multiple times but will never go again after the service my family and I experienced today. The Hostess Courtney gave different wait times and stated she didn't know our party of 5 was ready to be seated even though we were standing in front of her. She seemed as if she was having a bad day. She had an attitude when we questioned the her and replied with short snippy remarks.She was irritated with us and went inside the restaurant. The manager Michelle tried to address the situation but it was clear that she does not have the proper training to de-escalate the situation. She made the situation worse by not trying to hear our complaints and attempted to address the situation in the middle of the entrance instead of taking us off to the side so other customers would not be interrupted from their meal. Ultimately we ended up leaving and will never return. Hopefully the staff will take this as an opportunity to address future problems. read more

The gravy train southern skillet featured a hearty mix of ingredients like grits, fried chicken, eggs, and collard greens, all cooked together for a comforting and filling meal. The coconut cream stuffed French toast was a decadent treat, with creamy coconut filling sandwiched between slices of French toast. While the experience at Miss Shirley's was decent, the dishes we tried, didn't quite meet our expectations. The skillet was very greasy, and the French toast, while creative, was a bit heavy and the cream was overly sweet with only a tiny hint of coconut flavor. The service was good, and the atmosphere was lively, but overall, we found the meal to be just okay. However, I would give this place another chance to try out other dishes from their extensive menu and possibly update this review in the future. read more

Meh. I've been to the other locations and this one fell short. Like, really short. When we arrived we didn't have a wait-YAY. The tables are seated insanely close together which, when you have kids, isn't the most convenient. It took a little bit for anyone to come to us and our server had a bunch of other tables which meant we waited. A lot. We never got refills on our drinks and by the time she'd come around it was time for us to roll out anyway. The Bay-o Po Boy sandwich was good, but not $28 good. Had I realized that "market price" was $28 I would have chosen something else. The watermelon and feta salad was not good either- try something else. Anything else. It just tastes like raw onions. The kids meal was great- my kid loved it and all the options. Maybe we just got unlucky with our day, but I won't be returning to this location any time soon. read more

I ordered the Southern Slammer and it blew me away. Literally the perfect breakfast sandwich... fried egg, avo, bacon, pumpernickel bread. And the cocktails were fantastic - try a crush or the blueberry mojito! This is definitely not a cheap breakfast place, but nothing beats the service we experienced while we were there. Everything came fast and the waitstaff were so attentive! People rave about this place all the time, but it lives up to its reputation. There is usually a long wait for a table but we grabbed drinks and didn't mind killing some time. It was worth the wait. Perfect for taking friends from out of town, dining your parents, or a special occasion. If I came here all the time I'd be 300 lbs and completely broke.. but I would have fun getting there. 5/5! This is my family's favorite restaurant. We drive 2 hours to come and eat here and the Science center and Aquarium are just bonuses. The food is absolutely amazing. The service is remarkable. Just this last trip we had our two little ones, a baby and a toddler. They greeted us with a smile, parked our double stroller, handed my toddler a etch-a-sketch and our food was out within 6 minutes of ordering it! Our server Julian was kind and attentive, and was happy to help us with our rushed pace (as you never know how long you have before a meltdown with two little ones.) They hit the mark on all fronts. My breakfast at Miss Shirley's Cafe on Pratt St in Baltimore, Maryland was an extraordinary experience. The ambiance outside in the cool weather added a touch of magic to my morning. Andrew, our server, was not only attentive but also incredibly nice and informative, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was simply delicious - from the mouthwatering Hot Mess Scramble entree with a side of fresh fruit, to the delectable Banana Biscuit and Monkey Bread appetizers. I washed it all down with their refreshing iced coffee, which was the perfect complement to the meal. My wife and I got married and spent our honeymoon in inner harbor Baltimore. I must say Miss Shirley's is the pinnacle of breakfast. With there unique twist on American classic's they give you rich beautiful flavors giving you a true taste of the habor. You will have a long wait (30min to a hour) but anything this good is worth waiting for. The staff was excellent, and the professionalism was outstanding. Even with the high volume all staff I encountered were polite. If you have trouble making a decision on the meau, I suggest the chicken and waffles. I have not had anything like it. I had breakfast here several weeks back. While the food was decent, as was the service, it wasn't as good as I'd expected considering the fame that this place has. Maybe that's why. I was seated pretty quickly on a weekday and I ordered a mimosa and my food. It seemed to take a long time to get served and my waitress was not really attentive. I wanted a second mimosa but she really never returned so I passed. Maybe I should have ordered something else, but I had a hard time choosing between pancakes and the coconut french toast so I opted for eggs. Maybe that's the problem. I would not return. read more

When you first see your food you think, oh i'm going to enjoy this. When you first taste your food you think, can I get the check. Food is not worth the price. She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations that we truly enjoyed. Always a great time at Miss Shirleys, a Baltimore staple. Have been here many times with family and friends. Always feel at home thanks to the consistent good food and service. Of course the chicken and waffles is a favorite. Someone always places an order. The cheese biscuits, hash browns, grits with bacon are other favorite. A lot to choose from on the menu which is more reason to go back to Miss Shirley's. Keep an eye out for the monthly specials, from pancakes to sandwiches.
