Chicken and waffles were spicy, sweet, crunchy and chicken was so juicy. 10/10. Shrimp and grits with crab had the right amount of spice with delicious fried green tomatoes. And the biscuits, a literal everything bagel in biscuit form. Lots of options, service is fast, high quality food with good portions.

Overall, a lovely experience at Miss Shirley's today celebrating my best friend's birthday. I have absolutely heard all the hype surrounding Miss Shirley's from many people and I was so excited to put the hype to the test. The beverages were prepared really well, I got a colada beverage with pineapple and coconut milk that was very refreshing paired with rum. I liked the little pieces of pineapple included in the cup, and the portion was decent. My friend ordered the sunrise mimosa with a beautiful gradient color and with mango juice. I liked that they had so many options for cocktails and mocktails. We mostly ordered appetizers. We had to try the jalapeño cornbread, which came highly suggested. We all agreed it was very tasty. We also ordered the everything bagel biscuits with peach jam. The biscuit consistency and size were great. It was cool they incorporated cream cheese baked in too- very innovative! We also ordered the hot honey fried chicken deviled eggs and those were promptly devoured too. I opted for an item from the lighter option menu- the shrimp and corn chowder was tomato based with a lot of yummy chunky fresh stewed vegetables in every bite. I really did not see much shrimp in the chowder, which was a little disappointing. The birthday girl opted for the two style egg breakfast and she really enjoyed that! I also added a side of the cranberry maple sausage that was on the menu as being unique to the location and it was pretty good definitely lean, but satisfied the hankering. Service was ok and checked in on us often.

I've been to Miss Shirley's three or four times because I genuinely wanted to support a Black-owned business. I kept coming back thinking maybe I'd have a better experience, but after this visit, I don't see myself returning. To be fair, one thing they do well is seating. I've always been seated quickly, even when it's busy, and the location is convenient. The food, however, has been consistently average. During this visit, I was seated inside and spent a good part of my meal swatting away flies, which wasn't pleasant. I ordered the omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. The biscuit was easily the best part of the meal. warm, soft, and buttery. The omelet was oily, and the hash browns were cold by the time they reached the table. My friend ordered the cheeseburger and said the bun tasted stale. It was falling apart as she ate it, which made the meal even more disappointing. I really wanted to love this place, but after several visits, I just don't think the food lives up to its reputation. Baltimore has so many excellent brunch spots that consistently deliver better food and a better overall experience. At this point, Miss Shirley's feels more like a destination for tourists than a place locals return to because the food keeps them coming back. I hope they can improve the consistency because I'd love to see them live up to the reputation that first brought me in.

Honestly, I was not prepared for Miss Shirley's to actually be this good. We ordered so many different types of things and I wasn't disappointed in any of them. We pulled up randomly on a Saturday after walking around for brunch. We were seated in about 20 minutes, despite them not taking reservations. When we were seated, I was immediately impressed by the Kids activities they offer. For Kids, they give them an etch a sketch and a card with things like conversation, starters and trivia, to promote convo and no screen time. Love! I actually like how they treat kids as a whole. Instead of a typical kids "meal," they essentially have a Kids Bento box that is automatically served with fresh fruit and applesauce or yogurt. Everything about it was super cute. Service overall: overall, the service here was pretty good. Well, I do feel like it took a bit for refills at one point, our server was really attentive and made some good recommendations. Food: wow! The food here was really good. We got the fried green tomatoes and added crab on top. It was bomb. I can't remember the exact name of the skillet I got, but I got the skillet that had fried chicken, one of their bomb everything but the bagel biscuits, greens, gravy, an egg and cheddar grits. I am rarely blown away by everything on my plate, but I have to acknowledge that everything in the skillet had great flavor on its own and when combined. At our table, we were not disappointed by anything. We spent about $127 on brunch for three adults and one kid, all with beverages. I think there might've been one cocktail. We also had an appetizer. Given the portion sizes and the flavor of the food, I would say that that's not bad at all. I will definitely be back here and would recommend.

First time visiting Miss Shirley's yesterday and had an excellent visit! We were seated quickly and our server was super friendly! The fried deviled eggs were delish and a little spicy! The waffles were also very sweet and fluffy. The icing was great and some syrup, it truly was perfection. Would love to stop by again next time we are in the city!

I appreciate that they do so much for allergies and cross contamination. The service is great too. I really tried to like the pancakes but they were so beyond dry that I ran out of syrup and whipped cream trying to prevent the chalk taste in my mouth. By far the worst GF pancakes I have ever had. I was also disappointed that they do not offer lattes. The strawberries were fresh at least and the bacon was fine.

I know this Maryland favorite . However,my food was very disappointing I sent two entrees back . I ordered the "great your grits on " blackened salmon no blackened seasoning they use oldbay. The waiteness suggested the fried chicken gravy omelette under cooked and chicken was hard . When cut the omelette eggs started running .This also was sent back .Buffalo Shrimp Deviled Egg Platter . Was ok great presentation however need some salt and mayonnaise not creamy .The manager was great was still trying to satisfy me I keep my grits and ordered a side of bacon . I also be careful in which garage you park in because they don't validate all garages . African American entrees but the seasoning wasn't good. I'm sorry oldbay is not answer . Next time I'm in town I would love to offer my service because miss Shirley wouldn't be pleased. Ambiance was great for familles. You are able hold a conversation amongst the table. It is a Baltimore icon for a reason! The Inner Harbor location is just as good as the original too. True, parking can be tricky, but there are plenty of public garages within a short walk. The food... stellar. Just be warned, the portions are huge!! So, if the prices seem a touch high, keep in mind, you'll easily have two meals from one entrée! The service was good, very quick, and very friendly. The location is perfect too, right at the end of the main stretch of the inner harbor walk (Pratt Street). We went during the holiday season, and the seasonal offerings were really good! Their main menu is always delectable though. It was a tough decision! There are too many other glowing reviews for me to try to add anything new, so check it out for yourself if you haven't yet!

Miss Shirley's was theeeeee perfect Saturday breakfast/brunch spot to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We had heard great things about this spot from our realtor and used the occasion as an opportunity to check it out! from the second we walked in to Miss Shirley's, the vibe felt warm and inviting. They were playing oldies, it was cozy inside, and after coming in from the freezing cold it honestly felt like a much needed hug. When you walk in, one thing you can't miss is how many awards they have posted all over the walls (especially if your entire party isn't there as they don't seat without the whole party being there and you have to sit in the waiting area up front). This restaurant has a million awards and articles highlighting their crab cakes. After seeing all the buzz on the wall, we came in to the restaurant excited to order the crab cake Benedict, only to find out they no longer serve crab cakes. Our waitress explained that they removed them because they weren't meeting the restaurant's "standard," which I guess I respect, but we were still genuinely so sad because that's what we were most looking forward to. Thankfully, their menu is full of amazing sounding meals and we're still able to end up having a really good meal. One person in our group ordered the shrimp and grits, two of us got the chicken and waffles and swapped the honey mustard aioli for hot honey, and the fourth ordered the banana bread French toast. Overall everything was tasty, but the chicken on the chicken and waffles was a little overcooked and tough, which was the only real downside. The clear star of the table was the shrimp and grits. The plating was unique and really tasteful, and it somehow elevated such a classic comfort dish. It was honestly some of the best shrimp and grits I've had up north. We also ordered a side of hash browns and those were amazing too, super crispy and satisfying. Service was another big highlight. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, and we felt taken care of the entire time. Even though we were disappointed about the crab cakes, we still had a great experience and I'd absolutely come back.

I was recommended this spot for breakfast by a former local. It did not disappoint. The honey hot deviled eggs had just enough kick that it could be easily tamed by the sweet honey. I got the Eddie's Two Eggs any style. The pimento cheese biscuit was to die for! My friend got the chicken and cheddar waffles. The waffles almost looked like mini donuts. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable of the menu. I enjoyed a Shirley's crush - which was delicious and warmed up the insides on a frigid day!

Everything's been said about Miss Shirley's Cafe so I'll just talk about myself. I might need more glamorous profile photos since I only got one like in 9 years on my last Shirley's review. Sure, it's flattering that fake-seeming bots send me DMs, but what I can really use is some better review metrics. The Crabby Omelet was action-packed. Even the cheddar is crabby and the grits are more vivid than usual. It's best to go on the crab side of things but if you don't dig on crustaceans at least stick to the oven-mitt logo entrees. Don't miss the stunning grapefruit brulee. I haven't sampled the Kid's Boxes but can verify that years ago, a customer around two years old was absolutely thrilled with the visual aspect before taking a bite, rapidly waving his hands. For spontaneous/disorganized/reservation-averse types like this writer, the ultra-popular Miss Shirley's requires more advance planning than usual.

I was sooo thrilled we were able to finally visit. My mom and I have been wanting to visit since 2020 and finally got a chance to this past weekend and it did not disappoint. As we were actually on the elevator in our hotel, another group were actually talking about how they regretted passing up going to the restaurant while we were on our way there. Melissa our server was amazing in answering our questions and accommodating my mom's extensive requests lol. I ordered the special Cuban Huevos & a spiked blueberry lemonade which was really good. My mom ordered the chicken, biscuit, and gravy omelet with a side of french toast as we both wanted to try it and it was very good, we weren't really a fan of the biscuit but the chicken and gravy was delicious. My mom found the peppers on it a little spicy but they weren't to me. This was very close to our inner harbor hotel and highest rated for breakfast. The service was friendly and attentive. We were served from beginning to end in 40 minutes. The food was very fresh and unique. Everything was clean inside. We arrived on Sunday at opening 8 am. I am glad we did because within 30 min they were having trouble sitting everyone at least it took a small wait and realigning tables. The menu would be the only reason that I would not give the fifth star and that's because other than the kids menus I expect the breakfast places to have standard items or ala carte. The menu was a bit fancy and specific I would just reiterate at the top we make classic diner style breakfasts for order. I had the Maryland omelette and that was something unique. After visiting the Aquarium we found a quick walk to Miss Shirley's was in order. From the moment we entered Miss Shirley the customer service was excellent. The hostess was friendly, accommodated our party of 8 and helped us navigate the menu. Andrew, our server, was helpful, polite, explained the menu items we were interested in and was very efficient. The menu is varied. I had the Quinoa bowl which was chock full of avocado, fresh vegetables and I added hot honey salmon! Delicious!!! The ambience is casual and the staff friendly and attentive. So I drove down here to meet halfway with a friend from VA and it was soooo cute!! IT GETS BUSYYYYY!!!! We had to wait about 30 mins for 2 but it was well worth the wait. We ordered way too many sweet things so piece of advice, get some savory items! My favorite item? THE DONUTS. THE BEST strawberry donuts I have EVER had in my life. You have to order them. The cheese biscuits were also good, the savory that I needed. The monkey bread was WAY tooo much for me, very sweet and huge...I did not enjoy it. I got the cinnamon iced pancakes (overkill, I know) and it was good but I could not finish them. It's located by the water and is really nice, across from the mall. On my overnight trip to Baltimore, I already knew I was going to come here for breakfast before heading home. I don't know what made me think I wouldn't encounter a await of an hour on a Friday but I was not about to leave. It actually turned out to be about 40 minutes which was great because I was extremely hangry at that point. I had already looked at the menu online and went with the CRAB HASH & FRIED GREEN TOMATO EGGS BENEDICT. Perfectly runny Poached Eggs on Fried Green Tomatoes with Jumbo Lump Crab Meat Hash; Asparagus, Roasted Corn, Red Pepper & Green Onion, garnished with Hollandaise & Chives, dusted with Old Bay. Oh my word! This was my third time visiting and it's just as amazing even after a few years. I will never not come here on my visits to Baltimore. read more

After seeing that Miss Shirley's had the best breakfast in town we had to try it out and it totally lived up to its claim! We started off with some strawberry lemonade mojitos. These were absolutely delicious. The mint made it taste so nice and fresh and it wasn't overly sweet. I ended up getting the Eddie's Two Cage Free Eggs. I opted for poached eggs and these came out perfect! They placed them on two different cut outs of bread (I believe sour dough and rye) which was so nice because when I cut into them, I was able to dip the bread in the yolk. For my protein I got the sage sausage patty and it was so tasty. For my side I had to pick the grits and let me tell you, these were some of the best grits I've ever had! They were so creamy and had pieces of bacon, which gave such a nice flavor. The meal also came with a pimento cheese biscuit, which had to be the best biscuit I've ever had in my life. It was so savory and satisfying. I wish I could have taken a whole box of them home. If you're ever in Baltimore this is a must go to. I already can't wait to go back. read more

We came here expecting a simple cafe and when we ordered eggs and a few other things thinking the would be simple but instead they had a seasoning on them and were more gourmet. I spent New Year's in Baltimore, and the next day I found this spot while searching for brunch. It turned out to be a great experience. From the moment we walked in the staff and especially our server were very attentive. The fried chicken deviled eggs were a solid 10/10. I ordered the fried chicken biscuits and gravy for my entrée which was also really good about an 8/10. I also got grits as a side and they were pretty basic and good! Went to Miss Shirley's Cafe for the first time this weekend! The wait time was super long (45 min+) for Saturday brunch for a party of 6 since they don't take reservations. But once seated, food is served quickly! I can understand the hype now! I got the Gravy Train Southern Skillet which was delicious--came with creamy grits, perfectly fried chicken (honestly so good!!!), and a beautiful sunny side up egg that just oozed prettily over everything! I also got a chance to try some of the other things my friends got on the menu--the Chicken and Cheddar Green Onion Waffle also was SO good! The waffle was soft and fluffy and the chicken again was perfection. Would highly recommend!! Bathrooms also are upstairs on the sky lobby level (shared with the whole building). read more

A lot of reviews and the hype is real. We really liked the food here, I liked my southern slammer sandwich with sourdough bread. I like the fried green tomato and bacon with the fried egg, combination of flavors was so good! The shrimp and grits were also delicious! My wife has cravings for it and that's how good it is. Definitely coming back! Service was good and the outdoor dining space was nice. Came on a weekday so there was no line but I'm sure this place is packed on the weekends for brunch read more

Really solid kid-friendly dinner for post ships and National Aquarium adventures. But fills up quickly by noon. Recommend getting your name down and there is a fun slide just across the way (5 minutes towards inner harbor) to kill time (better than killing time milling about an office lobby). Really fast take out though! Usually we opt for that and then go eat near the "wetlands" or the park. For the kids, this is breakfast/brunch (aka pancakes and waffles). But they include a generous scrambled egg, yogurt or apple sauce, and an impressive fruit salad. For the "big kids", I always get the savory waffles and fried chicken. It comes with syrup and two side sauces but you could eat this straight. read more

We had a great brunch experience here! I ordered the chicken and waffles with a strawberry lemonade. The chicken was perfectly seasoned--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside--and paired perfectly with the fluffy waffles. The Oreo pancakes were rich, fluffy, and indulgent--definitely a treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. The bacon was crispy and well-seasoned, and the original lemonade was refreshingly tart. They won various awards for their brunch and their warm hospitality/ service. There were so many things I wanted to try. EXCELLENT choice for my daughter's and I to indulge in our Galentine's date!!! Surprised that on a Sunday we could walk right in and be seated with a smile. As for our meals, they had a great Restaurant Week menu, but the girls decided to keep it light (lol). The waffles were fluffy and buttery with the add ons they were THEE BOMB!!... few fruit and a delicious MissMosa topped my meal off and then it was gurl talk and good eats! We enjoyed it so much and the atmosphere was great. Not too loud, lighting was perfect and the low music was good too. Parking was surprisingly in our favor. This place serves some yummy food! It opens at 8 in the morning and there was already a small line. We were quickly seated. I ordered coffee on all my visits. It was consistently delicious each time. Served piping hot with a side of half and half. Our server kept the cup full all the time. Everything I ordered on my visits were well spiced and flavorful. I really enjoyed the homemade pimento cheese biscuits. Wow they are fantastic! There is also another variety- a cobbler, which I tried once but didn't care for as much. The appetizer of eggs with the hot honey was funky and interesting. It was unique and worth trying. It had all of the textures and seasonings. On my most recent visit I had the Maryland omelette. It was loaded with crab and pure delicious flavors. It was filling but kind of pricey. The side of potatoes were not as crispy as I would have liked. Overall this place is worth the visit. Was looking forward to this place but it was just ok. Hot coffee was cold. I had to ask for another cup which than tasted burnt. Not worth the $5. Green tomato, bacon, egg and avocado sandwich on pumpernickle was decent but with all that on it was still lacking some flavor. Adding some hot sauce. S&P helped. The fried green tomato was def not the best I've ever had and that's not a lot. Bonus was that they did have a decent amount of avocado on the sandwich. Potato hash browns were also cold and slightly undercooked. Very greasy, maybe tasted more so due to the temperature. Kids breakfast was cute in a bento type box. My son liked his eggs, small pancakes fell flat but they had a generous portion of fresh fruit and yogurt. Still $13 for a kids breakfast is a little much. Prime location close to a lot of attractions and hotels, with an uber Lyft accessible curb pickup right nearby. Came by around 1:30pm on a Sunday and waited for 10 minutes for a table; they use a text message check in system. The place was busy and packed but by the looks of it everyone was either happily enjoying or had finished their food, all of which looked stunning and sounded appetizing on the menu. As a non alcohol drinker, I really appreciated and enjoyed the mocktails, though one drink was $9. The space is large, a little on the louder side, and well lit, with an impressive menu with options for everyone, from southern comfort favorites to vegetarian dishes. I ordered their pulled pork grilled cheese, which came decently quickly packed with pulled pork, but incredibly soggy and almost impossible to pick up. There also wasn't as much cheese on it as I had hoped. The meat itself was great. The sweet potato fries were good, but also a bit pricey for the portion. Servers were always busy, had to ask someone for my check and waited another few minutes for my original server to come back. I do want to come back and try the sweet breakfast options like French toast, if I'm in the area again. read more

A must-try if you're in downtown Baltimore! Be prepared for a wait as they don't take reservations, and instead you have to show up to put your name on a list. That being said, we only had to wait about 15 minutes on a busy Sunday morning. The earlier you go, the better! Everyone at the table tried something different, and all enjoyed their meal, including the less adventurous kids. I had the stuffed coconut cream French toast as it was featured on the Food Network. Half the portion would be enough for me, and my dining companions thankfully helped me finish it. I wish it was offered with more berries as it was so rich and delicious but needed some acidity to round it out. I also tried the crab hash eggs Benedict and had secret FOMO that I should have ordered it! We sat outside, next to a cute little canal that I didn't know existed. They had umbrellas for shade and it was tolerable despite the heat. Would be back! read more

I once loved to order Miss Shirley's togo but since they started the online orders it went down hill. Their website is glitchy and sometimes you can't place an order. Today I tried to order on the website and it didn't allow me I thentried grub hub but it says everything is out of stock. I tried calling Miss Shirley's customer service but the hosts was rude. Sorry...no...the pancakes were stiff, dense, diner-standard, and entirely unimpressive. I don't know how these doughy manhole covers won any awards of any kind... Buttermilk Pancakes: 2/5 The Maryland Omelet was decent. But under-seasoned (meaning NOT seasoned at all) and, unfortunately, nothing to rave about... Maryland Omelet: 3/5 Top this off with the fact that, with 2 coffees and a side of bacon, plus tax and tip, our meal costed $78 freakin' dollars ($78.82 to be exact). Suffice it to say, I will NEVER come back to this restaurant! Sorry, but the value simply isn't there. IHOP would've been comparable at half the price. I would've given this place 2 stars overall if our server wasn't so nice. So kudos, Sarah, your friendly, attentive service made us a little less mad at dropping nearly $80 on a supremely mediocre brunch. Okay...the Pimento Cheese Biscuits (that came with the omelette) were good... The parking for Miss Shirley's is horrible. Better signage showing where all the different parking areas are would be useful. The menu is undoubtedly unique. Unlike other places, it has really fun and unique menu items. One of my criteria for really great restaurants is how long it takes to pick an item. Came in on a Friday late morning with my mom. Was immediately sat. Out sever was attentive and made good recommendations. The food came quickly. I got the egg white omelet that had bacon and spinach. There was a LOT of- too much - oil. But it was good. My mom got the coconut cream stuffed French toast. It was AMAZING!!! It wasn't to sweet. It was a HUGE plate that we definitely could have split. I really enjoyed my time at Miss Shirley's Cafe. I came here to celebrate my birthday and at first glance, I was surpised at how small the restaurant was, however I did notice they have a large patio for seating and you can look outside while your eating. Nonetheless it was somewhat crowded and I was seated very fast. Once I got seated my waiter introduced himself and he was very friendly. I ordered the Maryland Omelet and the pineapple upside down pancakes. The food arrived hot and it did not take long at all. The Maryland omelet was delicious it had lump crab meat that tasted like they got that straight from the chesapake bay lol!! I'm serious!...I was not expectating that crab to be so delightful! The whole omelet was a delicious surprise, cause I was not sure about crab and omelet but it kinda went together real bad!! Anyway the pancakes was ginormours and I kinda wish it was a little bit sweeter but it was good. Overall I paid about 45.00 and I had food for left over for days! So it was worth it! Established and created in 2005 by longtime restaurateur and Baltimore native, Eddie (as he was affectionately known), Miss Shirley’s Cafe was named in loving memory of Miss Shirley, who was a close friend & former team member of Eddie's at The Beef Inn & The Catering People, who passed away in 2001. Shirley was known for her passion and joy in preparing dishes for catered celebrations in the community. Both Eddie & Shirley's photos are hung on the wall of the restaurants as a tribute to their fun-loving working relationship in the 1980's. The Miss Shirley's Cafe Culinary Team crafts bold original recipes and seasonal menus that reflect both a southern flare, as well as our team's love of Maryland ingredients.

They have some outdoor seating as well. The staff are super friendly and they even have a fun little cup sleeve color guessing game where you can win a 10% discount on your next order. Most of the customers seem to come in for a cup and roll out. There are a lot of office buildings here, so that makes sense. They have free password protected wifi and it's decent. I ordered the white toast and it is the 2" thick, low quality, tasteless white bread they use for their French toast. Whatever. The utensils are one step above plastic - they are light-weight, cheap, rough edged crap you might imagine in a prison. Whatever. The plastic containers of half and half were already on the table, sitting there at room temp. Again, whatever. The waitress dropped off the bill, said to use the QR code to pay unless we were using cash, then took off. If we wanted to split the bill, I guessed we would need to wait for her to come back around. So, I offered to pay the astoundingly high bill. I open the QR link and the first things that popped are the tip options with 20% pre-selected. All told the bill was $97 for two people. When I got home I glanced at the itemized bill: *They charged us $16 for two cups of coffee with one refill each. *a 20 % tip was already included! Apparently, they add 20% onto checks over $50. Of course it's over $50 when you charge $16 for mugs of coffee, and $$ for sides of crappy white toast. Make no mistake, this is my fault for paying with the QR code and not combing through the itemized bill first. I guess I'm not used to going to neighborhood joints expecting to get fleeced. My suggestion: go around the corner to Spoons Cafe on Cross St: high quality food and you won't feel robbed blind when you look at the bill.

Great, family-friendly breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. Sociable and helpful employees, extremely wonderful food, somewhat reasonable price tag. Very vibrant decorations and overall look. All-in-all: one fantastic time! Many people claim that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and whether you decide to believe it or not, Miss Shirley's Cafe stands as physical proof. I happened to be in Baltimore, Maryland over spring break when I came across this cafe. The reason it had caught my eye was because it was advertised as a restaurant visited by Guy Fieri on his prominent television show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." If you are unfamiliar about the concept of this production, Guy Fieri, an American restaurateur, visits various restaurants across the nation, and interviews the owner while sampling their food. His visit to Miss Shirley's resulted in an increase of the cafe's popularity. Even if you're paying no attention to your surroundings at all, Miss Shirley's is hard to miss. The exterior of the cafe is decorated in vibrant, colorful window panes that accent the uniqueness of the restaurant. It has an attractive modern-yet-rustic feel, which makes it a popular spot for people of any age. It is also brilliantly located on the corner of a block; the sun does not fail to succeed at bringing out the building to anyone passing by, and it rests on the Inner Harbor waterfront, where most of Baltimore's visitors are. (However, Miss Shirley's Cafe is located in several other places!) Once I entered this restaurant, I was astonished. The entire place was flooded with all of the awards Miss Shirley's had won; the cafe was even Zagat Rated, which means that it was considered a top restaurant, and they did not fail to flaunt it. Vintage decorations and photographs were dangling from the ceilings and resting on the walls, which continued the color scheme resembled on the cafe's exterior. Over the speakers, cheerful 60s music was playing at a respectable volume. To me, the whole scene shouted one thing: family friendly. The employees offered a wide range of diversity in seating areas: outside, a covered patio, and of course, indoors. In general, there were a lot of seats, which could prevent a long wait. The family-friendly theme was emphasized even more after our kind and upbeat waiter sat us down in a large, comfortable booth. He gave us our menus after verifying that none of us had allergies or had, and we soon realized with pleasure that the food had even more diversity than the seating (however, it was mostly Southern-based). After a lot of contemplating, I had decided to purchase Belgian Waffles with Strawberries, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Orange Juice. The waiters were even willing to accept fully customized off-the-menu orders and serve vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options. Once everyone had ordered, the wait wasn't short but it certainly wasn't long, and everything was correct except for one small side mishap which they had offered to fix. I vividly remember thinking, "that was probably the best breakfast food I'd had in a long time," and it certainly was. The orange juice was fresh, and Miss Shirley's offered free refills. The waffles paired with the strawberries were perfection: the waffle was fluffy, yet delicate, and the strawberries provided a sweet, tangy taste. The bacon was cooked perfectly: crisp, but with a bursting flavor. I even sampled some of my families' food, and I was not disappointed at all. Ok let me start off by saying, I like Miss Shirley's. What I'm not a fan of is their food inconsistency. One day you'll go and the food is perfectly seasoned, and the next time around, you're like where's the seasoning, did they forget? It's a great food spot, but if you're a local, it's a hit or miss. My other issue, are they serious! We are still dealing with a pandemic, why is there over 20 people sitting in the lobby all awaiting an hour to be seated. That's seriously an easy fix with the availability of technology. They should take online or phone reservations, maybe require people to show up 30 minutes before their reservation, stay in their car until they get that second text message or something! But they need a new game plan cuz that foolishness that was happening in the lobby today, that was unacceptable! Last time I was at the restaurant, I ordered the chicken and cheddar green onions waffles. The chicken was too hard, didn't enjoy that but the waffles were so flavorful and that buttery cheddar gave it a bit of a spice. So today, I decided to order the chicken and waffles again but got a side of the cinnamon danish pancakes. Thank goodness the chicken was not dry this time, but still not a fan. Usually I eat a couple of pieces and wait for flavor to explode on my tongue, but I'm always disappointed. The waffles were bland today, so very sad. I did enjoy the pancakes, I would definitely order that again. Even my friend commented how much better the pancakes were compared to the waffles. My son ordered the stuffed French toast of the month: Cherry chocolate cheesecake. My sample tasted pretty good. He also enjoyed it, but said it seemed like it was mostly bread and not enough filling. My friend got gumbo with a side of cornbread (ordered it later, so I forgot to take a picture). As you can see, we like to share food at our table. I wasn't impressed after my gumbo sample, all I taste it was grits and vegetables. My friend really enjoyed it, but said she mostly tasted chicken and wish it had more meat. I told her well according to the menu it was supposed to also have sausage, shrimp and crawfish meat (judge the picture for yourself). I opted for the CINNAMON APPLE BREAD FRENCH TOAST, scrambled eggs, and chicken sausage. We recently visited Miss Shirley's for breakfast and, while there were some highs, the experience left much to be desired. We requested to be seated anywhere but didn't anticipate how chilly the outside patio would be. A heater would've been a great touch, especially for the poor kid at the next table who was bundled up in cloth napkins, and for my sister who sat with goosebumps the entire time. Our server, Jonathan, was fantastic--friendly, prompt, and efficient. We were in a bit of a hurry, and he ensured we got our food quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The chicken and waffles, a signature dish at Miss Shirley's, fell short. The waffles weren't crispy on the outside, instead soft all around like they had been pre-made and left sitting. But the real letdown was the chicken--over-breaded, dry, and frankly some of the worst chicken tenders I've had in years. Even the delicious flavored butter couldn't save the dish. Our group had mixed reviews on their meals. The western omelet was excellent, but the breakfast bowl was under-seasoned. I also had an orange crush, which was disappointingly just orange juice. I loved this place! The Benne Seed Chicken 'N Waffles were so good, it is tempting me to drive an hour back to Baltimore just to have them again. A hotel worker recommended the place to us, just a short walk from the inner harbor, it is well worth going to. The menu had all kinds of dishes you have never seen or heard of before. So many things sounded good, it was difficult making a choice. A party of 5 of us ordered 4 different breakfasts, and every one of us simply loved the food. The plates are big, I am glad we went for "brunch" because the chicken and waffles were so filling I didn't eat again the rest of the day. But oh, what waffles! White Cheddar and Green onion waffles served with Benne Seed fried chicken with a mustard aoli, the waffles are topped with an amazing jalepeno and peppadew pepper butter. I asked for extra butter because the taste and little kick was addictive! Another winner was the coconut stuffed french toast, everyone had a bite and agreed it was very tasty. Our server was a lot of fun and very knowledgable, the atmosphere kind of had a modern / retro diner feel to it. Visited this place multiple times but will never go again after the service my family and I experienced today. The Hostess Courtney gave different wait times and stated she didn't know our party of 5 was ready to be seated even though we were standing in front of her. She seemed as if she was having a bad day. She had an attitude when we questioned the her and replied with short snippy remarks.She was irritated with us and went inside the restaurant. The manager Michelle tried to address the situation but it was clear that she does not have the proper training to de-escalate the situation. She made the situation worse by not trying to hear our complaints and attempted to address the situation in the middle of the entrance instead of taking us off to the side so other customers would not be interrupted from their meal. Ultimately we ended up leaving and will never return. Hopefully the staff will take this as an opportunity to address future problems. read more

Meh. I've been to the other locations and this one fell short. Like, really short. When we arrived we didn't have a wait-YAY. The tables are seated insanely close together which, when you have kids, isn't the most convenient. It took a little bit for anyone to come to us and our server had a bunch of other tables which meant we waited. A lot. We never got refills on our drinks and by the time she'd come around it was time for us to roll out anyway. The Bay-o Po Boy sandwich was good, but not $28 good. Had I realized that "market price" was $28 I would have chosen something else. The watermelon and feta salad was not good either- try something else. Anything else. It just tastes like raw onions. The kids meal was great- my kid loved it and all the options. Maybe we just got unlucky with our day, but I won't be returning to this location any time soon. read more

I ordered the Southern Slammer and it blew me away. Literally the perfect breakfast sandwich... fried egg, avo, bacon, pumpernickel bread. And the cocktails were fantastic - try a crush or the blueberry mojito! This is definitely not a cheap breakfast place, but nothing beats the service we experienced while we were there. Everything came fast and the waitstaff were so attentive! People rave about this place all the time, but it lives up to its reputation. There is usually a long wait for a table but we grabbed drinks and didn't mind killing some time. It was worth the wait. Perfect for taking friends from out of town, dining your parents, or a special occasion. If I came here all the time I'd be 300 lbs and completely broke.. but I would have fun getting there. 5/5! This is my family's favorite restaurant. We drive 2 hours to come and eat here and the Science center and Aquarium are just bonuses. The food is absolutely amazing. The service is remarkable. Just this last trip we had our two little ones, a baby and a toddler. They greeted us with a smile, parked our double stroller, handed my toddler a etch-a-sketch and our food was out within 6 minutes of ordering it! Our server Julian was kind and attentive, and was happy to help us with our rushed pace (as you never know how long you have before a meltdown with two little ones.) They hit the mark on all fronts. My breakfast at Miss Shirley's Cafe on Pratt St in Baltimore, Maryland was an extraordinary experience. The ambiance outside in the cool weather added a touch of magic to my morning. Andrew, our server, was not only attentive but also incredibly nice and informative, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was simply delicious - from the mouthwatering Hot Mess Scramble entree with a side of fresh fruit, to the delectable Banana Biscuit and Monkey Bread appetizers. My wife and I got married and spent our honeymoon in inner harbor Baltimore. I must say Miss Shirley's is the pinnacle of breakfast. With there unique twist on American classic's they give you rich beautiful flavors giving you a true taste of the habor. You will have a long wait (30min to a hour) but anything this good is worth waiting for. The staff was excellent, and the professionalism was outstanding. Even with the high volume all staff I encountered were polite. If you have trouble making a decision on the meau, I suggest the chicken and waffles. I have not had anything like it. I had breakfast here several weeks back. While the food was decent, as was the service, it wasn't as good as I'd expected considering the fame that this place has. Maybe that's why. I was seated pretty quickly on a weekday and I ordered a mimosa and my food. It seemed to take a long time to get served and my waitress was not really attentive. I wanted a second mimosa but she really never returned so I passed. Maybe I should have ordered something else, but I had a hard time choosing between pancakes and the coconut french toast so I opted for eggs. Maybe that's the problem. I would not return. read more

Always a great time at Miss Shirleys, a Baltimore staple. Have been here many times with family and friends. Always feel at home thanks to the consistent good food and service. Of course the chicken and waffles is a favorite. Someone always places an order. The cheese biscuits, hash browns, grits with bacon are other favorite. A lot to choose from on the menu which is more reason to go back to Miss Shirley's. Keep an eye out for the monthly specials, from pancakes to sandwiches.
