We booked the 2 hour self-guided kayaking tour of the Riverwalk area. Staff was Texas friendly and professional. Parking is located directly across the street from the entrance at The Tobin Center. It's a short walk down a ramp to the entrance of the Riverwalk. This makes it family friendly for kids/elderly. The only issue we encountered: no public restroom nearby. It is a long walk to one but doable at 13 minutes roundtrip. I would recommend stopping at a restroom before parking for those with mobility issues. It was a truly MAGICAL experience. Viewing the Riverwalk from the water in the quiet morning hours with hardly any other people or boats has made it the best time I've ever had coming here. I've walked and taken the boat tour countless times with out of town family and friends. I don't have any kayaking experience and was able to easily complete the loop with plenty of time to spare. Take your time and enjoy the sights. Come prepared with water shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting wet. We were glad to have packed a change of clothes because afterwards, our shorts/shoes were soaking wet. Half of us changed in the parking lot to avoid the long trek to the bathroom again. read more

We rented kayaks for an early Sunday morning kayak of the San Antonio Riverwalk. ***OUTSTANDING!*** We had a marvelous time; Mission made it super easy to arrive, slip into a kayak, and tool around the area multiple times. It was not a guided tour, so we could quietly enjoy the experience and take tons of pictures. Given the quiet Sunday morning timing, it was really magical to see the Riverwalk from the waterline, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat. As residents of wonderful SATX, we would love to see the city permit this experience on a permanent basis! TIP: go prepared for water, with the right attire and with your personal items prepared for water as well. We had a splendid time kayaking the river walk. You can only make reservations online as payment can not be exchanged there on the river. It breaks the rules of the King William district. A little bit of a nuisance but it is what it is. The current as you would expect is almost nothing. I am glad we went early in the morning as the temps and shade were nice. It was so nice to get outside and enjoy such a beautiful place. My personal opinion is an hour is more than enough time there. My only constructive point is the life jacket was super smelly. I doubt it is washed often. It smelled and we were the first ones to use it today. If it were not for a possible fine of not wearing a life jacket I would have gone without. read more

(Espanda Park)This was a great little excursion especially to relieve some of this cabin fever! This may be one of San Antonio's little known secrets. Nice easy relaxing time down the San Antonio River surrounded by lush greenery throughout and wild life of different kinds birds, ducks and turtles. We had an excellent time. All the people from reservations, check in on location to the kayak hand were very friendly and helpful. After or before kayaking one can walk on the paved trails, fish from the banks or use one of the picnic tables to picnic. There are public bathrooms and the area is pretty clean throughout. This particular time was only adults but I've already booked another for the family. This business is owned and run by ex military. They are open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and some holidays. Carefully to read all maps and instructions  to arrive 10 minutes early. They were very adamant in explaining  3 very important rules: 1)Life vest are required, "a must" as I was told 2) Absolutely no beer or alcohol of any kind allowed 3) No swimming of any kind. Violating any of these rules will result in a $500 fine (each).  Cancellations must be made 3 days in advance, if you are a no show for your excursion, you will forfeit your payment.  Waivers must be signed prior and can be easily done online to enforce contact free. Kayakers have 2 options King Williams and Espanda Park, 1 or 2 hour experiences and single or tandem kayaks.  Ask for military discount. Email may be best way to reach them as they are extremely busy.  We were told that Kayaks/vests/paddles are sanitized after each use with bleach water solution. read more

I heard about this tour a few years ago and was waiting for everyone in my family to be old enough to do it. There were 11 of us in our family ranging from 12 years old to 54 years old. The tour did not disappoint! It was exactly what I was looking for. It was so much fun, beautiful scenery, and informational. Theresa was great! Paddle the River City! These guys made it possible for me to canoe the Riverwalk! This seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime proposition to be able to get to navigate the Riverwalk without any barges or tourists to choke things up. Booking a reservation was easy on their website. We showed up at the appointment time, and loaded the canoe straight into the water behind the Tobin Center, and paddled down the river towards downtown, taking the loop around the heart of the Riverwalk before paddling back. I brought my own watercraft, and got to avoid any rental charges. The fee paid was for the launch. Along the way, there were employees of Mission Kayaks making sure we didn't take a wrong turn, and to help with pictures. They were friendly and helpful. At return, Mission had pretty much packed everything up, and were just there to receive the return of the kayaks. The trip was not a guided tour, we were on our own, which was just fine! This really seems like a trek for the locals instead of tourists who would have no idea how to do this, or that it's even available! I hope to come back and go again before this limited time opportunity expires, and the tourist barges return to the Riverwalk. read more

We did the 4 hour Mission Tour by bike and had a blast. Teresa Scheets was our guide and she was awesome. The bikes were well maintained and set up for us when we arrived. The bluetooth headsets worked great and Teresa was able to troubleshoot any issues (like my helmet strap pushing the volume button down). Teresa has a smooth calming voice with a great delivery pacing so we knew where we were going on the trial as well as what we were seeing along the way. She took breaks at great spots, matched my pace well, and was so knowledgeable about the sites. Even with the high heat and almost unbearable heat index we said this bike ride was in our top 3 favorite parts of our vacation and we did a lot of stuff in 5 days so it ranked high in our books. read more

A hidden gem in San Antonio. I've now taken the 3 and 4 mile guided kayaking tours. They were awesome! If you love being on the water that alone would make this tour for you. But seeing the birds, turtles, beautiful damsel and dragon flies, while learning about the river and it's ecology was really cool. So there's guided and unguided tours. I initially wanted to do this on my own. What could go wrong? I have some experience..rain and water level changed that the first trip. I was forced to go guided. (With no additional charge which was nice) I was initially disappointed. Lemme tell you though, you want to be guided your first time. The guides tell you how and where to safely go down the rapids. So put your macho away and get a guide. Weekday mornings are nice. No people and great temperatures. I will be doing this again. What a great way to spend a morning. So go ahead. Skip out on work. Miss understood where to meet but it's not at the Mission it's at the Park. So do not go to the Mission. Got there a bit earlier than was told only because I thought there might be a number of others waiting to go kayaking so we didn't see the van with the kayaks till after we got back from the Mission. Jim was our guide. Jim is from San Diego but a bit of a seat of the pants naturalist so he was more than half way to the San Antonio part of the trip. Makes sense if you're me. Jim was great, you can tell he's been on the river quite a while and knows it like the back of his hand, literally. He spotted a snake in a tree that we would have never seen, he spotted turtles sunning on rocks over 50 yards away, he spotted birds in the shade of a tree that we would have never seen. I have been on several kayak trips. Some guided some not. I am from the Southside of San Antonio and grew up there so the Missions were where I played as a child. I had never really seen it from the river before and was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of wild life. We saw over 15 species of bird, snakes and turtles. We went through 15 different shoots and just had a great time. Of all the trips in the South Texas area I have kayak'ed this one had the most wildlife. I would do this, with Jim again and again. My advice to anyone who has Jim as a guide is to be quiet and listen otherwise you will miss all of the beautiful nature surrounding you. He was able to slowly paddle upon a giant blue heron and caught a turtle with his bare hands in knee deep water. If you're with a group that is just out to get wet and have fun down the spouts then don't expect the wild life. You're not there for that. read more

We had a great time. The driver was helpful and informative. The lady on the phone I talked to, to tell her we would be 5-10 minutes late was not helpful at all and was obviously discuses that we were soooo late. The slides you go down are not well maintained and there is A LOT of garbage. We were sad to see this area not loved by the community. The water is really dirty so we didn't feel like it was a great place to go kayaking. We do love San Antonio. read more

Great bike ride of three missions in San Antonio, Texas. The tour was four hours and was fourteen miles. It was a slow relaxing pace. The tour guide used a microphone with each rider getting an earpiece to hear commentary. It was a little windy, but no major hills. We got to tour each mission. It was Sunday and there were Catholic services in Spanish going on at each stop. Would highly recommend. read more

Everything went smoothly, from the reservation process, to finding it, all the way to returning our kayak.
