Reasonably priced course with excellent challenge and very well kept greens. This is definitely a sleeper course in San Diego.

Played at Mission Trails Golf Course yesterday with 10 Deaf golfers, and we had a blast. It was my 989th golf course played around the world during my 65 years of golfing. The course itself is a bit short and quirky, with several hills. If a ball slices or hooks too far, it often ends up on bare dirt. The fairways are nice and reasonably well maintained, and the greens are in good condition. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The ranger (or player assistant) was not particularly helpful, especially since the pace of play was somewhat slow throughout the day. One major caveat is that the golf carts are quite old. One cart bumped into ours due to an apparent brake malfunction. Fortunately, no one was injured. read more

I'm writing this in hopes to spread awareness. Booked a 6:12am tee time on a Thursday morning. A friend of mine called a day before and asked if he could bring his 4 year old son to spectate (he would cover whatever expenses needed to do so). Pro shop said yes of course he can. Next day, we are waiting for him on the first tee box. Friend arrives with his son and no equipment and tells us no he's not allowed to bring his on the course, he needs to be 5 years old (even when we called to make sure it was okay). My friend woke up at 4am to get himself and his son ready just to get turned away at the shop. Now I am not assuming anything, but my friend over the phone sounds like a white man, but he's African American. Again did NOT want to assume anything, but the more questions I asked with different staff members, I just kept getting different answers about why his son wouldn't be able to come on. Up until I ran into another group and they had an experience with their African American friend (turned away because he didn't have his shirt tucked in). I'll be honest, 2026, we don't need this. Love this course, I've been playing here for years! Not to mention, the gals that serve us, are the best! Charlotte and Kathy, are the absolute best! The golf course was in very good condition including excellent greens. The staff however were very badly trained. The snack bar person spoke almost no English, couldn't finish a simple credit card transaction and had to track me down at the first tee to complete. The beverage cart person slammed the ice chest closed in the middle of my backswing, the worst however was the person in the restaurant who was taking our order was visibly sick and was rude to my friend who was ordering for our party of 12. Never felt rushed, greens were nice, front 9 was cool and challenging layout. I love this course, this is the course that I learned to golf on. About 3 years ago I stated on this course and the prices are now about 2x the price. I used to be able to pay 28$ for a cart and play 18 after twilight. The morning times are even more expensive. Where the used to cost around 45-60$ in the morning they are now in the 70$ range. Quit ridiculous for a course that still has rock hard dirt in some sections(back nine). Still great course but they need to drop the prices read more

Mission Trails offers a solid golfing experience at a reasonable price, with some interesting challenges. Start of with a long par 5 with a range to the left and culverts to the right and below. While the fairways could use a little improvement, the greens are in good shape, and most of the tee boxes are well-maintained and usable. Be prepared for some hills if you're walking the course. The mix of water hazards and trees can lead to a few lost balls, but also gives you the chance to recover a few. The pace of play can be slow at times, particularly when certain marshals are working--sometimes they're more focused on searching for lost balls than keeping the game moving. If you're looking to improve your game, Pat Diaz is an excellent instructor. While it's not the best course in the area, Mission Trails is well-maintained and offers one of the more affordable options for a full 18-hole round. read more

What an absolute dumpster fire. Five hour and 20 minute round of golf on a Monday morning. No one cares about pace of play, "Ambassador" just drives by and waves. That golf course can be played in under four hours with no problem if they would enforce pace of play. Will not be returning. read more

Had not played the course in about 4 years. I was absolutely shocked at how good the course looked and how so much better the service inside the clubhouse and the restaurant was. We played a a threesome and game time was 3.5 hours. No idea where all the negative reviews are coming from but i would definitely encourage those that did not have a great time, go back now and rewrite your review. Course from tee to green is not in great shape at all. Tee boxes are shaggy, fairways are patchy, and the greens still have punch marks that are obviously not healing. $63 with a cart on a Monday, and it's not worth half of that. read more

PROS: the bartender Charlotte, she was 5-star. CONS: Everything else! I have been playing this course since 1973 when it was called San Carlos Golf Course. After that, it was called Navajo Canyon, now Mission Trails for the last 40 years or so. I have friends that just call it Mission Ditches for all the concrete irrigation ditches that run throughout the course. The last time (until yesterday) I played this course was probably 1993 in the SCGA team matches. 32 years ago I decided that playing golf there was a waste of time. The course was in horrible shape then, but the greens were very smooth and puttable. Not yesterday, everything about the course was "sub-par". The 5th hole is still the same abomination it has always been. Just a mud fairway where you have to hit it to miss the ditch that runs in front of the green then down to the right of the fairway (you deal with this ditch again on the next hole also). Most of the fairways are a good percentage of dirt and mud. Do not expect to get a good lie on this golf course. The greens are now bumpy and have grown hogs backs in them that did not used to exist decades ago. So, expect that ball that is going straight in the hole to hit something and not even touch the cup. This happened to all members of our foursome. You can expect 2-foot breaks on 4-foot putts. This has been caused by a lack of proper maintenance over the years where the crew just kept loading more and more sand on the greens until every green turned into a hogs back. Then you are charged $75.00 for this abomination! I can play Torrey Pines for North $36.00, or South for $50.00 as a senior. That also was never mentioned when I paid my green fees, that if I was a senior or not. But I am not sure if that applied on weekends as Mission Trails does not publish their fees on their website! On the whole, the entire staff was friendly, but that was the highlight of my experience at the Ditches. read more

It was my first time playing Mission Trails and it was a decent experience overall. The course has well maintained greens which were nice to see for a municipal course. The only downside to our round was the check-in experience. The employee who checked me in made it feel as if I was inconveniencing him by checking in for my tee time, making it seem that he disliked people coming in for tee times. This course gets worse and worse everytime ! play. Unprofessional rude pro shop that workers aren't even in half the time just chipping in the green next to it. Always backed up 2 groups at least and have never seen a Marshall 1 time in the 10 times I've played here, pace of play isn't a thing here. and if you go to the pro shop and say something the pro shop like they said to me will say "that's not my job" not sure who's job it is, but the most unprofessional worst ran golf course I've ever played time after time, decent course so if someone just learned how to run this place it might be decent but it's actually terrible and makes golf just not fun. read more

Wanted to get back into golf since I had a lot of time on my hands and my friends were already members at this club so I decided to try it out. The golf course is short and the greens and fairways are decent. So if you are looking for a course that makes you feel like your Tiger Woods than this is the play because the par 4's and 5's are reachable for eagle putts. The membership is great, around $42 a month for free large bucket range balls, $25 for 18 with cart before 2 and a free drink, and $15 for 18 with cart after 2 and 2 free drinks! Also you get 10% off all merchandise in the clubhouse. Great deal that I utilize frequently! So if you are in the mood to play a decent round of golf and work on your short game then this is the place for you! read more

Called the club house multiple times due to the three groups in front of us taking multiple tee shots, 8 people on one tee box and another group with only one set of golf clubs for 4 ppl. Fairways pretty rough....front nine has a concrete liner culvert/creek running Across many holes which is almost not visible from tees...this really slows Down play...looking for balls, etc....Greens ok but soft...they have to water A bunch this tie of year to keep them alive in the summer heat so that was ok Golf course directions from hole to hole terrible for fist timers...least fair amount Of time looking for next tees....Teeing grounds just fair...lots of dry dead patches But workable.....Interesting layout...really liked that...was probably a great course Back in the time but lack maintenance has taken its toll.... Worth a one time look....probably...priced right but rounds take time...4:45-5:15 hrs. So give it a whirl...bring at lot of water and some patience and have a good Time.... read more

Recently played this course and it was not that good. The horrible condition is what makes this place challenging. It was a 60 dollar price tag to play here. So, for that price it makes the Eastlake golf course look like a steal at 70. After playing the 18 holes me and my buds were willing to gruel it out for another round. We figured they would have a deal on a replay round....nope another 60. We asked about playing just 9 and nope, they don't have a 9 hole price. So pay 60 bucks for 9. Now I see why all the bad reviews. Advise you to play someplace else like the 70 bucks for Eastlake or the 58 bucks for Bonita plus these places have replays and 9 hole prices with better conditions. read more

I grew up playing this course. Have probably played it more than any course in San Diego. Today was embarrassing. I took a friend out and it was awful. Overgrown fairways, and 4 inch high weeds for rough, and they charge $50 for that experience! A waste of money for sure. I will never play there again. The lawn mower guy followed us on the first 6 holes, wouldn't stop while we were hitting up to the green. And ran over my ball on two different occasions cutting up my prov1x! COVID has no bearing on my review; It's hard to see the cow pasture course beyond the range, but the disappointment for me was when I decided to visit the property for a short range session, as opposed to driving to Stadium this particular day. If you park in the back lot, accessible to the range, be prepared to wander around until you ask someone else on the range where range balls are located. When you find the range shack on the other side of the range, don't go inside expecting to get any balls. You will need to keep walking up the cart path to the main building, since there is no way to access the range balls without pre-paid tickets -as expected, but not on the other side of the property. Expect to pay $15 for a basket of range balls. This basket is the equivalent of a 'birdie basket' at stadium (if you know, then you know this is high). When you trek back to the range shack down the cart path, expect to receive a mixed basket of random limited flight range balls. $15 for an average basket of range balls (maybe 80+) and mixed with limited flight, sun baked and water damaged range balls. Nevermind the yardage posted on the side of the range that is supposed to correspond to the markers down range (they did shoot pretty close to the yardages when using a range finder) because this won't matter whatsoever with the limited flight, sun baked and water damaged range balls. Overall, this was a disappointing experience for the first, and last, visit to a range that was conveniently located to my home. Not angry, just disappointed and figured I would share my experience for anyone else who is industry or can square the club face with center contact more than 90% of the time. $15 for 80+ balls that are mixed with limited flight, sun baked and water damaged balls. The required mat use is equally as frustrating, as the mats are extremely worn and coming apart. Maybe they will update one day, as I'm not sure the cow pasture track is killing it either. Lol I guess my expectations were differing from my visual assessment, due to hunger or low blood sugar or something else. Oh well. Now you know :) read more

I played today 3/3/24 and the course was not playable. It was sprinkling and the course was flooded and full of mud everywhere. I understand they can't control the weather but that wasn't the issue. The fairway grass was overgrown and had not been mowed for over a week. That was consistent throughout the course. Over six inch grass in most fairways dead down the middle. The first cut around the greens was equally not mowed. I lost several balls due to the long grass in fairways and in the first cut of the green. They gave no warning. It's like they gave the grounds crew the week off. I'll never play there again and would recommend you find another course. read more

Played today. Super happy to see the course conditions. The course had come a long way and great job by the MT team. The course and greens are in outstanding conditions! Still some wet spots left out there especially on hole 1 and 6 fairway. Not sure why the area is not mark off grounds under repair along with some other wet spots on the fairway. It can be frustrating to hit fairway and have to take a lost ball penalty. To speed up play. The food order sign should be put back up on the 9th tee so players can order food in advance. Other than that, cant wait to tee up my next round. read more

This is the worst course I have ever played in over fifty years of golfing. It took over four hours to play nine holes. The reason is that they haven't mowed the fairways in months. I lost six balls, and i found two. Every hole you would see golfers searching for there ball. They charge fifty dollars for this. Outrageous. I play here every week cause it's near my home. The course is challenging but very fun. It can get a little backed up on weekends but that's normal almost everywhere you play. Over the past few years I've seen them making lots of improvements. The fairways are being well kept now, they removed some trees on a few holes for better visibility, the sidewalks have been repaired, and the pristine greens are always rolling smooth. The greens here are probably just as good as any of the top notch courses in SD. Their membership is also one of the best values. Just moved to the area and wanted to use the driving range. Tried to find information online of what to expect when showing up, and there is a brief explanation of how many spots and what type of mats they use, but that's it. I showed up via the Navajo Rd parking lot and went to get a bucket of balls from the machine, but realized that the machine only takes cash, which I didn't have with me. I went back home (3 minute drive, no biggie) grabbed some cash then headed back. I then selected the size of bucket I wanted, and tried to insert cash and the machine wouldn't take it. I figured at this point that you probably need a code to put in the machine, but there was no one working the area, so I couldn't ask, also didn't see any signs explaining how to get a code. I'm guessing I have to maybe go to the club house to buy the code, but again, no signage to point me in that direction. Would appreciate any signage and updating the website to explain the situation with the driving range. I would definitely be there frequently, as I live close by. I live 5 min down the street from here. I have been in the player club for 4 years. I have had enough. I put up with terrible driving range over the years. I put up with the terrible pace of play on the weekends and during twilight hours. I put up with the ungodly over grown grass and terrible drainage during the last few months due to all the rain. I have had enough. Yesterday my friend and I decided to walk on around 4:30. We payed our $20 and knew we would only play the front 9. The pace of play was already terrible and it was packed. We were walking and the entire front 9 is flooded and a complete swamp. HOW!?!?!? It hasn't rained in 3-4 weeks! I played there last week and it was fine! EVERY FAIRWAY is muddy slush and completely unplayable. The edges are STILL way overgrown! Clover makes up %50 of anything green. To make things worse we finish hole 8 and get ready to move to 9's tee box and the sprinklers come on! The course is packed with tons of players and ALL THE SPRINKLERS COME ON!!! It was only 6:30 P.M. WTF!!! The group in front of us got soaked. We do dodged the sprinklers and left. To make things worse while walking by the closed clubhouse back to the parking lot there was a maintenance guy standing there watching all the golfers trying to dodge all the sprinklers. And smiling about it as if he did it. WTF is going on with this place? I have played there over 50 times in the last couple years. I am DONE! It sucks that this place is so close to me and convenient. BUT THAT IS IT. I am done with this abusive relationship! read more
