Visiting Boca Raton and came here for brunch. It looks like a small shack as you view it from Federal Hwy (it used to be an Italian place that had drive thru gelato offered way back in the day, according to my friend). They are known for the brisket they smoke on the daily. They are a scratch kitchen restaurant so fairly popular with the locals. The casual nature of the restaurant itself along with the friendly staff make for a relaxing visit. Our server was Martha and she was a lot of fun! Hubby had the Açaí Bowl, my friend had the Smoked Brisket Melt, and I had the Chicken and Waffles. While the other two thoroughly enjoyed their meals, I was disappointed because they described the waffles in my dish as Belgian. If you know what a real Belgian waffle is, you would be disappointed as well getting a regular waffle that's just fluffier than normal. I dislike when restaurants do this - these are not Belgian waffles. The only redeeming quality is that they serve the dish with strawberry butter. Sounds weird but the taste was excellent. If you do stop by, keep in mind that the portions are fairly large so prepare to take some home with you or split a dish. read more

My family and I dined at The Hen & The Hog this summer during our weekend in Boca. There were 7 of us, and they had adequate seating for us within a reasonable time. The breakfast classics were great and it's a good go to when you can't decide what you want to eat. The portions were pretty generous, so you should definitely leave feeling full. The varied breakfast sweets are what brought us in, and the kids decided on the Cinnamon Toast Crunch French toast and Crème brûlée pancakes. I will say the French toast tasted bland, but I think it's because cinnamon sugar is typically what regular French toast tastes like. I definitely wish we got the fruity people's one, as customers around us told us it was great! Crème brûlée pancakes tasted good, and the I really enjoyed the loaded grits bowl. Overall, we had a good experience and a kind waitress. The only thing I'd recommend is not going on a rainy day. I was extremely excited to try out The Hen and The Hog but I'm disappointed to say that I wasted 1 hour and a half of my day by choosing to have breakfast here rather than anywhere else. For anyone reading this review with an expectation of getting an insight on the quality of the food, I'm sorry to disappoint but this review is entirely in regards to the service of this place as I was sadly not able to eat anything. My husband and I waited for over 20 minutes to get a table which we were super understanding about as the place seemed rather busy, once we were seated everything seemed rather promising. The menu was filled with things we were excited about and the food we saw come out of the kitchen all seemed delicious. We placed our order and then we waited... and waited... and waited. Nobody came over to check in on us. We sat patiently as we saw not one, not two, but three tables who arrived and ordered after us receive their food; and that's just from the tables we had a view of. After over 40 minutes without receiving any of our food items I finally was able to flag down our waitress to ask how much longer until our food was ready. She informed me that food comes out as it gets received by the kitchen but that the food would be worth the wait. It wasn't until I brought up the fact that several tables who ordered after us had already received their food that I finally saw some urgency towards figuring out where our food was. Turns out the kitchen hadn't even received our order so they were only going to get started at that time which was already an hour and a half after we arrived to the local. Needless to say, we didn't stay to figure out if the food was indeed good or not. We offered to pay for our drinks, but were told by one of the waitresses it wasn't needed which I definitely did appreciate after everything else. I was really excited about this restaurant and hoping for a delicious breakfast, but sadly ended up having a negative experience. read more

My fiancée and I had such a great experience at the Hollywood location that when I drove by this place while I was in Boca, I had to stop by and have my shrimp and grits. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The place is small but they also offer outdoor seating. Little tricky to find parking space and the entrance but compared to how everything else is, this little inconvenience is worth your troubles. If are looking for a decent breakfast and lunch place look no further. Give The Hen and the Hog a try and you won't be disappointed. They have freshly squeezed lemonade and orange juice but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe next time. The meal didn't take long at all and it was served hot and placed carefully. It was a warm day so we opted to eat inside which was quite cold. There are only 7 small tables and a few bar seats but we were seated quickly and enjoyed the kitchy decor. The lovely server named Shanice gave us our beverages before taking our food order. The menu has a huge variety of brunch options as well as a few salads and entrees. I ordered the Smoked Brisket Omelet and it was so good. There was plenty of fresh smoked meat inside it and the portion size was very good. It came with a side but I asked for tomatoes slices instead of chopped potato hashbrowns. My husband ordered the hand held Baja Breakfast Wrap which was basically a loaded burrito. It was not very big in size and had alot of potatoes in it but he did like the flavor combination. It didnt come with a side because the potatoes were stuffed inside. We asked for some of their housemate BBQ sauce and it was good but quite sweet and not thick at all. I would have preferred something less sweet and a little smokey and spicy. The only issue we had was that the kitchen was VERY slow and our server apologized more than one time. Dana was our server and she was very pleasant, polite, funny, she had great recommendations, she made our 1st so enjoyable. There wasn't many vegetarian options however they are willing to work with the menu and your diet.. I ordered the nova Benedict, but I hate poached eggs, so they were able to give me two fried hard eggs in replacement. Great place for a hearty brunch with friends! The inside is a little smaller so it seats a smaller party and also has bar counter seats. Outside can hold larger parties. It's summer so it's a little bit on the hotter side but the food is so worth it. The people who work here are also super nice and check on you often. We got the orange mimosa and loaded grits to start. Can't go wrong with a brunch mimosa. The loaded grits were perfect. I was scared that the bacon and sausage would make the grits super salty but honestly it was a really good balance. Next we had the crème brûlée pancakes, let me tell you, I ate a 1/3 of it without the syrup before my boyfriend even came back to the table. It's somehow crispy and also fluffy at the same time. The other dish we got was the smoked brisket skillet which is so filling that we had to take it home. The barbecue sauce went really well with the dish. We sat down and ordered immediately, because we had been looking over the menu while we waited 40 minutes to be sat. Our server disappeared with no word and our food was brought out by someone else. The waters on our table remained empty the whole time we dined, as we were not checked on again. After waiting for 20 minutes once we finished our plates, we waved down a different server and were finally able to get our check after an additional 15 minutes of waiting. While the weather was nice ..please be aware that the flies are really hard to get away from which I usually don't have an issue with when seated outside. HOWEVER, the food was delicious. I ordered the brisket bowl which had avocado brisket potatoes and tomatoes with a side of cheese grits. My friend ordered steak and eggs. I had the lychee mimosa and she had regular mimosa. I will say that I enjoyed the steak that my friend ate more than the brisket due to how sweet the brisket was. It was very tender but I would recommend the steak over the brisket if you do not like a sweet taste on your meat. The grits were amazing! I craved them days after coming here. As for my mimosa, I could've done a regular one. I did not taste the lychee much but it wasn't that different from a regular mimosa. Overall it was a great experience.
