Saddest little coney dog in the world.
    Em H.

I recently stopped by this restaurant to experience their infamous coney dog. I walked in and seated myself and waited to be served. The manager and waitress appeared busy, but not with helping customers, mostly cleaning. I was addressed by the manager, Amber, who shortly took my order. I ordered a coney dog with just chili. She didn't ask if I wanted fries or any side before turning in my order. It might have been nice if she had because, when the hot dog came out, it was the scrawniest hot dog I've ever seen... And I've seen a few! The coney chili tasted fine, but I finished the hot dog and bun in only 5 bites. I wasn't nearly satiated enough, so I ordered a small strawberry shake to help fill me up. It was pretty tasty, though not enough to make up for a disappointing visit. I quickly paid for my meal and left Mister Coney, never to darken their door again.

The service is sit down style with a super pleasant waitress and the ordering is done from a simple to follow menu. I ordered the Mr. Coney signature dog that comes with diced onion, coney sauce, mustard for $1.95 a piece. I also ordered the cheese French fries that was a small and it was a whole plate of food with lots of cheese! The flavor was pretty decent but lacking a lot of coney sauce. The restaurant has a nostalgic feel but updated look inside. Once I ordered my food it was out within minutes. One soft drink, 2 signature coney dogs and 1 small order of cheese fries was only $9.81! If I lived here I would be a regular for a quick cheap bite to eat. Glad I stopped in!

    Southern mess... Pancake was great!!

2 stars... My buddy makes this joint a weekly stop, so I went along for the ride. I ordered "the mess" southern style... hash browns, eggs, sausage, and veggies all cooked together and topped with sausage gravy... served with a pancake. The heap lacked flavor, and the soft hash browns made it all a bit mushy. The gravy had a good flavor, but couldn't overcome the texture issues. Pancake was perfectly cooked and I topped it with butter and the fake syrup at the table... OJ was good with pulp making me believe it was of the non-concentrated variety... Ambiance is old school diner, service was attentive, and price was in line with expectation, but not food quality.. I might be back with my buddy again, but I'll try something else as the mess lived up to its name, but not my expectation...

First time here and I was excited to try it because so many people have told me that it was a great place to eat. They have a good size menu of lunch and breakfast items breakfast can be ordered all day. I decided to go with the country fried steak Which is served with my choice of toast and eggs and hash browns. We also order the fried chicken sandwich with a small order of fries and two coney dogs and chili soup. We went thru the drive thru and our order came out correct. They gave us all the condiments and they took their time. They don't rush you through like other fast food joints. Staff was patient while we decided what to order and even gave us a take out menu. The dinning room is open and staff wears gloves and masks. Very social distance aware. We had lots of cartons and bags for our food. They packaged it perfect and it was all hot when we got home. However the friend chicken sandwich is so thin that you can't taste it amongst the bun. It's more like a small version of pork tenderloin and wasn't good per my daughter. She did love the fries tho. The country fried steak was huge. It was ok. But the gravy made it perfect. The hash browns could have been more crispy like I asked and the sourdough toast was soggy. It was also not Good reheated the next day and I ended throwing it out. Coney dogs tasted just like all the other coney dogs sold In Fort Wayne per my SO and he prob wouldn't order them again. The chili soup was good but boy it was spicy spicy. When I tasted it Which they didn't tell me when I asked a bunch of questions about it. It did not have beans in it and was packed full of small bits of meat and lots of broth. It was tasty but to spicy for me. Cheese was extra. In fact the food comes plain And any extras will cost you. For what we got it was almost $19. Not bad for three people I suppose. I would go here again because I would like to try some sandwiches and their desserts my daughter says! Also she loved the fries which when I tasted them were very hot and super yummy. It they are pricey for an order. A small isn't big enough to share and at over $2 I could have gotten a large at another fast food place That they tasted similar too. All in all it is a tasty treat to go to and I would patron again. I recommend going for sure. I think it's a local joint and not a chain too but I can't say for sure. Happy eating.

Skip Mr. Coney and head to Coney Island instead. I have always heard that Mr Coney had the same recipe as Coney Island and the dogs were just as good. They're not. The chili tasted sweeter, which I don't care for. They top the dogs off with shredded cheese so the cheese doesn't melt at all. Kind if reminded me more like Skyline Chili. We also had some "jalapeno" cheese fries that had zero jalapeno to them, but I did like the fact that fries were an option. The service was great, but it took the food quite a while to come out. Coney Island is almost instant. The rest of their food options might be good and maybe I'll go back to try it, but I most definitely won't go back the next time I want a Coney dog!

Pork tenderloin sandwich, very good, and very well priced.

Excellent experience here at Mr. Coney. I had a pork tenderloin sandwich and fries, and it was made to perfection. The service here was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. No complaints at all, this is a really good place to eat in Fort Wayne. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be sure to stop by again.

Breaded tenderloin, coney hot dogs, bowl of chili and cheese fries... Hot fresh and tasty!

Wow....first time eating here. My party of 3 ordered a total of one tenderloin which was humongous. Four coney hot dogs, two small bowls of chili and an order of cheese fries. Totaling $19 bucks....very reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. The food was very tasty, hot and fresh. The coney sauce was the best! The waitress was a nice addition to our experience. She was very attentive and checked on us multiple times. I highly recommend you to stop here and eat.

A Legendary Ft. Wayne Classic! Mr. Coney has the original recipe that takes us all back to simpler times. The coneys and chili are always the same, perfection! The breaded chicken breast and tenderloin sandwiches are always delicious and the fries are crispy and tasty! It's the only place I know of that has cherry milkshakes (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry too), and fresh pies everyday. My family LOVES Mr. Coney!

Coney dogs, tenderloin sandwich and some cheese fries. Sinfully delicious. :)

This place was totally on point. We got the Coney dogs with cheese, a pork tenderloin sandwich and some cheese fries. The dogs were great, especially for the price, but the cheese could have been a little more melted. The PT was good size and was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crisp to it. And the cheese fries? Bomb. Crispy, hot shoestring fries covered in a cheese sauce the could probably make erasers taste good. The service was excellent. Our server, Kayla, was very helpful and attentive. I had a new soda before I even got halfway through the first one and she even came back twice just to make sure everything was good. In all, this place was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to anyone craving a good old fashioned coney dog.

You can tell that Hawkins has a mission to share Jesus while they serve you fish. I admire them for putting their faith forward and in action. Cooking fish on site is not a fast process. So they were apologist about the long wait. The truck is very clean and in good repair. The menu is rather small but has enough options to satisfy. On this occasion we ordered the white fish and perch baskets along with fried okra and fried green beans. I really like fried okra as I was born in the south. The breading was nice. The thickness was just right but it didn't have much taste. It wasn't greasy which was good! The okra pieces were small. It's hard to have fresh okra. These pieces were probably frozen as I miss the rich taste of a large-moist piece of okra. The green beans were a lot like the okra. They are unique and mildly greasy. The breading didn't have much taste and the green bean lacked that fresh moist snap I would prefer. The French fries that came with the baskets were good. They were crisp, medium cut and mildly greasy. Hawkins provided too little ketchup for the fries while providing a large packet of ranch for the beans and okra. Both the fish baskets were good. The breading had a slight spice flavoring. Some of the fish has a little stronger salt taste than I expected as most pieces did not. The fish was fresh and didn't taste/smell fishy. The fish flaked off in firm and small pieces - nicely done without too much of a grease flavor. I have to admit that I was disappointed when they handed me a couple small packets of tarter sauce. I love fish with my tarter sauce. This sauce packet was very bland and didn't do anything to help me enjoy the fish more.

The food was hot and fresh. Good prices and they were very friendly! We will definitely be back!read more

Big Eyed Fish on Wells Street - when you have a craving for Fish & Stroh style fish and tarter…read moresauce Yes, I know that I could go to Stroh to get this old time flavor. However, Big Eyed Fish is pretty good fish in its own right, local...and flavored like the taste I remember from the past. We visited the Big Eyed Fish location on Well's street. They have an express shop located on Huegenard Road and another dine in location at Leo Crossing. This location has been in service since 2003. It has a nice diner feel with super friendly service. You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.

I've avoided trying them because I'd heard they were always busy and had long wait times. On this occasion we had no wait even though they were really busy. I'm really glad we gave the Black Dog Pub a try. Black Dog is located in a strip mall at the Coventry Plaza. Parking can be deceiving - if the front lot is full then park out back. There is a small outdoor eating area which you will encounter as you go inside. The Pub has an inviting but small bar located right at the entrance. The restaurant will only seat about 50 dinners inside. The four person table is very small. Not much room for 4 water glasses, 4 drinks, 1 appetizer dish and four entrees - actually painfully small. On this night the outside temp was 90 degrees. The kitchen wouldn't make pizzas, calzones or grill wings when it is this hot (safety reasons). The team here was very friendly and helpful. They really hustled, kept the refills coming and served us well!! The menu is fairly large - salads, burgers, pizza, sausage rolls/calzones, sandwiches, subs and wraps. Something for everyone. All items seemed reasonably priced...and the ones we tried were delicious! Here is a run down of the food items we ordered: -Onion Rings: Black Dog says these are the "Best in Town". I'd say they were really good and worth a try! They start with a thick piece of onion and hand batter it with a very thick coating. Not too oily. Not much added flavor in the breading. Just an outstanding onion ring! -Side House salad: nice sized salad with a variety of side vegetables and cheese. Everything was fresh and tasty. -Cole Slaw: "Our signature Cole Slaw" better be good! The slaw has medium sized cabbage and carrot pieces bathed in a very light mayo sauce. The dish is slightly sweet with a little added seasoning. It comes off refreshing and cool yo taste. I really liked this signature dish. -Sweet Chili Chicken wrap: my wife had the wrap. The chicken was moist and tender. The char broiling gives it an added flavor coupled with a very mild sweet chili sauce. No strong after taste kick. She really liked the delicious wrap. -8 piece jumbo wings: on the appetizer section of the menu for $11.50. In the 8 order...there were probably more large to medium sized wings than jumbo wings. My teriyaki wings were lightly fried such that the skins only had a small amount of crisp. The inside was thoroughly cooked - no pink. Unfortunately, they might have been a little over cooked as they were solid white and a little tough/dry. The teriyaki sauce was thinner in consistency. They dipped the wing in a healthy amount of sauce. Much of it pooled in the bottom of the basket. It had a decently dark and bold teriyaki flavor with no spicy after kick.
