Rack & Hellen's double fried crispy wings - delicious! I went with the naked version since I've never had their wings or sauces before. I was confused that the sauce options were not on the menu. However the kind bartender gave me an 8 pack of sauces to try. I found that the Carolina mustard sauce was my favorite. Very mild in spice. The consistency was also thin so it had trouble sticking to the wing. A slight mustard taste that accented the crispy fried skins nicely. This order had 10 nicely sized wings. The wing was was cooked perfectly - no pink on the inside. The skin was nicely crisp without being crunchy. Extra crispy wings have never been my favorite. However, Rack & Hellen's did an incredible job with these wings! I loved the onions rings. A large-thick piece of onion with a thick batter. The batter was moderately crispy but a bit oily to taste. Definitely recommend! The mac salad was very good. They use a larger shell along with egg and possibly onion. The mayo is pretty heavy. However the dish was pretty tasty! On this occasion I sat at the bar. The place was busy. There were plenty of servers hustling and helping each other. The bartenders were very kind and friendly. I came here to eat my birthday lunch, as I do every year. I had the smokehouse casadilla, which had lots of pork but was way too sweet and had way too much sauce. You couldn't taste anything but mayonnaise and BBQ sauce pouring out the sides. My friend got the chicken bacon wrap, which was just a tiny, dry tortilla shell with a piece of chicken inside and a tiny side of runny coleslaw on a huge plate. I could have ordered that from a fast-food place. Our waiter was super nice and impressive. When we went to pay, I showed him my $15 birthday coupon they sent to my email. He said, 'I'm sorry, the new owners took all of that away.' I have been coming here for 20-plus years, but they have lost me as a customer. Yeah, it's only $15, but that's not the point. The owner should have announced that in the emails or had the waitress say that from the start. We drove far away because of that coupon, just to have it rejected. New owners should have written a new email saying they don't honor that anymore or waited until they were all used. We eat at Rach & Helen's all the time, but if the owner wants to lose business over $15, then so be it! Our waiter said we are not the only ones that have complained! Last time we go here! The music and 'announcer' were so loud that we had to yell across the table to hear each other talk. Have you ever been to a bar with loud music -- double that sound and that was what the night was like. Why would any restaurant have music that loud is beyond me - and have an 'announcer' yelling over the music was worse - we were not sure the purpose of the 'announcer'. Since the fire their menu is not up to date on the various web sites. My wife had rib tips. They were bone in cut and were far over spiced and under done. Chewy and were a hard pull. It was apparent that they were a rush job with mediocre to poor left over product. The French fry's and tater tots were soggy and the patty melt was ok. Meat was good but the rye bread was too thick and stale. The past menu items were good but they have yet to hit there stride. I stopped here with a colleague while doing business in Fort Wayne. Of course my fellow yelpers led me to this location. As I parked on the street just outside the door we could smell the aroma of some awesome cooking. As we walked in, there was no sign instructing us to grab a seat or wait to be seated so I asked my colleague what the protocol was here and a gentleman got up from the nearest table inside the door and showed us where we could sit. I later found out he was the owner. We were offered drinks fairly quick along with menus and ask for suggestions since this was our first time here. She told us there was an awesome sandwich that was not on the menu but they were still making it. We both got it and wow was it good. I can't tell you the name but it was something along the lines of a three porker sandwich. Bacon, ham, pulled pork, Jalapeño onion straws on a toasted hoagie bun. Boy was it good. My colleague got sweet potato fries which he really enjoyed and I had a side of macaroni salad. Now I'm pretty picky about my macaroni salad and this really lived up to the test. Our waitress was just wonderful and very friendly. I would highly recommend coming here anytime. Oh and by the way I noticed the owner moving from table to table to mingle with the guest. You get enough to eat here. They have a wide selection of foods, italian, mexican and american. They don't do any one of them perfect, but the food is aight! smokey up in here with alot of lounge room lizards. Food is good though. I don't normally do this, I usually do my reviews in some order of when I went to them, but I will make an exception for Rack & Helens Bar and Grill. Why? For the following reasons: 1) Great service. I got immediate attention the moment I walked in the door. Immediately got my beer and put my food order in. 2) Talking about the beer, large selection... most I have seen in the area since I moved... craft beers and unique beers. 3) I tried the Blue Moon Iced Coffee Blonde... it actually tasted like iced coffee with booze in it.... delightful! I love coffee and beer... perfect flavor. They had a bunch of other cool beers I want to try eventually like the Yuengling Hershey Chocolate Porter. The idea of that is just yum! 4) the food is standard bar fare... but done well Beyond that it's the first bar I visited in New Haven, IN and also the first bar I walked out into the middle of a snow storm... was crazy! I have to say I have been a long time customer of rack and Helens. Unfortunately I along with others have had not the best experiences with Racks customer service. A Couple months ago I had ordered their loaded cheese dip, which I had ordered the week previous it had come out in a glass dish and it came out very hot and delicious unlike this last time that I had ordered it it came out in a Styrofoam bowl and was lukewarm and after my server returned it to the kitchen and they made a fresh cheese dip, the next server that brought it out informed me that I should be aware that since there's sour cream on top it's going to bring the temperature down of the cheese dip. I again stirred the cheese dip dipped my chip in and it was mediocre warm.. I decided to return the dip. Yesterday I had called to try to place a reservation for this evening. I was greeted by a message that the person was away from her office to please leave a message. I did so. But I never got a call back about the reservation. So I called on Saturday afternoon to check on my reservation and they informed me that they were booked with reservations and had been having trouble with the reservation line and they apologized. I appreciate the apology but if you know you have trouble with your reservation line I would think that you would address that. So tonight when we came in we had to wait for a table ,,, It took about 30 minutes. No problem. Then we were told there was a table available we could go sit down but he had to set it up. We went, we waited, we sat a good 5 to 10 minutes nobody set our table up. The server finally comes and brings us menus. She walks away comes back about five minutes later wants to know if we're ready to order and I tell her no we're waiting for one other person but could we please get drinks. So we ordered drinks...we ordered ice tea for a friend that wasn't there yet and said can you bring him a pitcher of ice tea because he drinks a lot of it. Well she literally brought just a pitcher...no glass filled with ice...just a pitcher and a straw...OK maybe some miscommunication. After dropping off our drinks she comes back we place our order and like most people you have things you may not want on your salad and one of the people in my party had such requests and the salad came out with all of the things that she said she didn't want on it. The food runner then walks away and she's sitting there with a salad and none of us have any silverware so we had to ask for silverware and the server brings a basket with some napkins and silverware I pass the napkins and silverware out to everybody and we don't have enough napkins for everyone and we don't have enough silverware for everyone so I had to ask her for more silverware and more napkins. And the food comes out everything tasted good. But my friend who had the special request on the salad also wanted just three chicken strips to put on her salad which is something that she does for lunch and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Then when her foods brought out she is given six chicken strips and french fries which isn't what she ordered. But the server comes and says well it was cheaper if you got the six chicken strips and the french fries than to just get the three chicken strips on the side. It's kind for you to try to save us some money but that's not what she ordered she didn't want all that food. The server never checks on us never asked how the food is or if we need anything else. In fact we had to ask for drinks not once but twice. And then we had to ask where our drinks were. Finally I was not impressed by being asked to pay up so they could move the table for karaoke. We spent approximately $150. This is not the first time this has happened. I find it very unprofessional to ask a table to pay up so that they can start their entertainment. Instead why not say we have a table over here would you mind if we had you move over there because the karaoke's going to start and we don't want it to be loud and interrupt your conversation we'd be more than happy that you stay continue to drink enjoy yourself. And she said not once but twice I need to collect your money so that I can get this table out of here. It took her 10 minutes to bring back change. Unfortunately I think we're going to find somewhere else to spend our time and money. Maybe in the future they can get it together. I do want to say I know for a fact that this server is not representative of all of the servers at rack and Helens. I have had wonderful service at racks before. read more

In the past we've enjoyed R & H's burgers, sausage rolls, and grinders but until today we were strangers to their wings. The menu advertises them as hickory smoked and deep fried to a crisp, then sauced with and tossed. We chose ours in all their naked glory with a array of sauces on the side. The menu didn't lead us astray. Those wings were very crispy on the outside with juicy, flavorful meat on the inside. They were worthy enough on their own that they really had no need for saucing. However, for the sake of discussion, we tried the 5 sauces brought to our table. The sauces available are Hot BBQ, Sweet BBQ, Cherry Bourbon, Carolina Mustard, and Rack & Helen's Housemade Original. Although it was fun to mix and match the different sauce flavors we still found the those wings good enough not to be disturbed by outside interference. Rack & Helen's wings stand a good chance of being in our consideration at the conclusion of Wing Quest. FYI: Wings come 10 to an order and are normally tossed in Buffalo Sauce for $13.49. We've been coming here for years! The new management is really changing this place for the better! It's an amazing atmosphere to chill. They have some really great signature drinks and like 21 beers on tap. The food is beyond compare (especially in this small town) My husband and I love going on Tuesdays for trivia and Sundays for their new and improved brunch menu! Their wait staff is fun and definitely seem to have a nice family relationship with everyone. My friend got a sausage roll which he was only able to get through half, my sister order the Make your own Macaroni and it was amazing (pulled pork, grilled onions and more), I got the Cuban which is one of my favorites ( plenty of smoked pork and lots of ham). On a Tuesday evening we went to Racks and arrived at about 5:45pm. Had to sit at the bar because ALL of the other available table were reserved. A booth opened up behind us, and the waitress said we could take that one. Our food arrived, but then we were told we had to go back to the bar because that booth was "reserved". (No sign on the booth), so back we go. Then a round table opened up and we were told we could go there; however, another group came in behind us, not the people who 'reserved' the booth, but a different group all together. They told the waitress they were just going to "sit there" until another booth was available. Wrong. They got fed there. So we went to our table and got ignored until it was "bill time". Asked for a refill on my coke, it never showed up. Paid the bill with cash, waitress asked if I wanted change. Ya Think???? Racks, your reservation system STINKS!! 4 or five tables that were reserved were never filled, and they were empty for almost an hour! Oh, and I had to go up to the bar to get my own refill.
