Well they have a special 3 coney dogs for $5.00 a good deal I thought. Never had dry & spicy coney dogs before but I have now, nasty. Once I got a chef salad but they forgot the dressing,, so then I had to go to the store.... The sloppy joes are usually pretty good & the friendly service from April is not there......... This was our first time eating at Coney Dog Cafe this past Sunday. Let me tell you by saying what an amazing experience we had for lunch. First things walking into this restaurant it is very clean and the staff welcomed us with smiling faces. Our waitres was top notch, could not have asked for a better one. Super polite and checked up on us to make sure we did not need anything else with our meals. The food came out fast and piping hot! All of our food that we ordered was delicious. If I had to pick what was my favorite out of the whole lunch it would have to be the onion rings. They were nice size and had a great crunch with every bite. Very underwhelmed. I really wanted to like this place because I absolutely LOVE hot dogs. Maybe I got the wrong things but I was not happy about my purchase. I did appreciate that they made the food to order so it was hot. Here's what I ordered: -onion rings: probably the best item in my order. They were hot and delicious. But nothing I couldn't buy frozen at the store. -Cheese Dog: literally just melted cheese on a hot dog. -Chili Dog: onions and chili on a hot dog I wish the hot dog itself was better, and the bun. The hot dog tasted like a cheap hot dog bought from the grocery store in a pack for $1. Maybe there's a sausage or a better hot dog available? I think if they fried the hot dogs it might taste a little snazzier. I'll give it another try just in hopes that there's something good here. read more

After seeing so many pictures of the wonderful looking food here, we finally went for lunch. I ordered potato soup and a single cheeseburger with fries. My husband had a single cheeseburger with onion rings. WOW - these burgers are huge and were fresh not frozen! I can't imagine eating a double - but they are on the menu -so someone is eating them! The buns were steamed as you'd expect - not soggy and slightly firm. The hot dog was fine. It almost tasted a bit too mushy. The coney sauce is difficult to describe. I came in today at 2:55 PM to pick up some food for a coworker. I made the order for the coworker and when it was time to pay I handed the lady a Coney dog cafe frequent customer card and a $20 bill. I recommended this place to him because he's never tried it and new to our location . After I gave her The customer card and money. She looked at the $20 bill then looked at me and asked me for a different form of payment because the money I had did not look real, I work at Hires automotive across the street. we come there all the time to eat but after today. I will never step foot back in that establishment. I was so embarrassed I didn't even get her name. The younger staff have always been welcoming but this older lady today really changed my view. Absolutely zero quality or dedication to taste. Tried a coney dog and the chili was bland with a very faint taste of cinnamon (tasted like cheap Skyline Chili); the "sliders" (there was next to no patty) tasted like grainy and almost like a weird, burnt paste. I've tried the Chicago dog, New England dog, corn dog and a coney. All were very tasty and they do not skimp out on the toppings. I had never heard of a NE dog but man was it delicious! I really wanted to give it more stars because the waitresses were so friendly! We ordered takeout: 2 dogs, 4 sliders, onion rings, and chili cheese fries. I think it came to $16-something. First the good - we both quite liked the onion rings. The sliders were pretty darn good. I think I liked both of these more than my husband did. The service was great and so is the price. The bad - the chili cheese fries were horrible! They looked yummy with all that fake cheese that is always so delicious, but the fries themselves were basically raw. They're pretty thick fries too, so that's a lot of bland potatoey stuff to get around. There was no color on them at all. I think I'd have to ask for them double fried or something. I do want to try again. And the chili on the dogs is different. There's no other way to say it lol. It's got a cinnamon-y taste to it, so it definitely isn't like any other chili dog I've had. I love their coney dogs but they changed their coney sauce!! It has a cinnamony taste to it now, it never used too. We've been coming to coney dog cage sporadically for about 20 year's starting with the 1 in New haven!!! Still the best coney's around just gotta get used to the new sauce!! Small coney good place that sells bar food. Closed sundays and has a private parking lot with a small dinning area. Friendly staff but dingy store. Needs a top to bottom cleaning for sure. Coney dogs are meh. Always served like warm and the dog sauce is really dark lackluster in flavor but carries onions and mustard along with it. Buns are soft and they are packaged will if you order to go. Just reheat them by the time you get home. French fries are good as well as the rings and I think the bestie I item is the slider. If you are looking for a laid back environment, this is perfect. Ita very laid back, with the servers wearing normal cothes, the kitchen being open to see whsts going on, all the seating is in one room, and the tables and chairs all nearbone another. The server who help us first was a very nice young woman. The second woman didnt really say much. When we walked in the tables and chairs were scattered and not well put into place. The food itself, not bad. I compare it to another local company and they arent tooooo far off, but they arent quite there. I loved that their chili had beans in it. I know it's blaspheme to suggest it, but I truly think the sliders are almost as good as Powers downtown without the overwhelming onion smell in your clothes/vehicle - The coneys are "ok". However... I've been here several times and every single visit the wait time to get food has been really long despite a small number of guests. Today I ordered a few dozen coneys and sliders just before 11am - I showed up about 11:30 as directed but had to wait until almost 11:45 before the order was ready. Fort Wayne is "famous" for two of this places menu items. Coney dogs at Fort Wayne Famous Coney Island, and sliders at powers. Both of the aforementioned are winning go to places in my book. That being said let me share my experience at Coney Dog Cafe. We got carry out. I ordered two Coney dogs with everything and two sliders with everything and cheese. The Coney dogs were ok at best, but nothing compared to Coney Island downtown... If I am in the mood for a Coney Dog, I'll gladly make the drive downtown. Now for the sliders...these were fantastic.... One of the best sliders I've ever had... And yes....better than Powers.
