I have a Long history with Mitchell's- some AMAZING experiences over the past 8 years and some TERRIBLE. Recently I had a negative experience, but the manager at West Chester has truly done everything in her power to fix the stylists mistake. I am so thankful for the amazing customer service I have received since. Long story short, I had a stylist over process my hair to the point at which it was falling out. I was devastated, not only did I have to cut off 5 inches of my hair (Instead of the original plan of 2inches) my hair was fried and breaking close to the root. I immediately requested a refund! So I'm sure your wondering why I've chosen to give this location 4 stars. Well, after my experience, one of the managers called me and not only offered me services to fix the damage at no cost, but also created a care package (at no cost) of the full Oribe haircare line to work on fixing the damage! These products are amazing and very expensive and I was so appreciative that she has taken the time to fix a mistake one of her (former) stylists made. Although I'm devastated that my hair experienced such trauma- I'm also so grateful for the management for working with me constantly to bring my hair back to life. read more

I previously came to this location about every eight weeks and decided last time to stop doing so. I tried for many months and thought they might start listening to the way I liked my hair to be cut. It's a short cut, nothing difficult for other salons where I used to live. Basically they put the blame on everybody but themselves. I don't think there's any accountability for training and techniques you would think they would have. I am guessing it is poorly managed since accountability is not up on their list. Don't ask for anything to be different next time you go since receiving any feedback is unheard of it seems. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever encountered at a salon. The stylist quoted me a price for my extensions in writing. When my service was done, the front desk tried to charge me $500 more than what the stylist wrote down for me. The front desk was highly annoyed when I brought up the fact that I had a quote, in writing, from the stylist at the end of my appointment. Then, 7 days after my extension appointment, I get a call from someone at Mitchell's saying they would like to charge me $250 more because they didn't charge me enough after my appointment. Again, I had the quote in writing and the stylist walked me to the desk to check out! Absolutely unprofessional and I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I wish I could rate the facility vs the stylist. I would give the stylists 5 starts. Nicole was amazing. The negatives- some things were outdated. There were at least 3 broken wash bowls. A 4th had no water pressure. In addition the time to check in and out took FOREVER!!!!!!! There is no reason to have to wait 8 minutes to check out. I went to Mitchell's for a spa treatment package with a massage, facial, and pedicure. The highlight of my trip was a facial with Ivy, that was excellent. The pedicure was average and the massage was just ok. What will stop me from returning is the ambiance and the front desk staff. I've never been to a day spa that didn't have a proper quiet room to wait for treatments. Here the spa waiting room is in the front with the light glaring off the cars. And everyone coming into the spa walks through it. When I went to check out the girl at the desk tried to overcharge me. When I told her what the charge was supposed to be she just stated at me and did nothing to fix it. If you are interested in getting some deep BROWN-maroon highlights or a dark ashy maroon....this is sadly not the place to go. I was at West Chester from 10:25am - 3pm for a simple partial foil. I tried my very very best to be very specific about the color that I wanted. Angela and Michelle, together did not accomplish it. I give 3 stars because my hair was not damaged or over processed during the process. The front desk staff is very efficient, kind and friendly, though. I have been here several times over the past year or so and have found them to be warm and professional. I have been coming to Mitchell's for my hair for several years. I absolutely love Nikki! She is the best around. And believe me, I have been to many stylists over the years. She is attentive to my thoughts and requests, and yet, will give me her honest opinion from a professional perspective. I will not go anywhere else. I get so many complements on my hair. I used to leave a pedicure or manicure thinking that I could have done a better job myself. Doing my own nails became something I enjoyed taking the time and care to do. With a busy schedule and busy career, I just haven't felt like doing my nails the way I'd like to. So! I've been going to Mitchell's for years and have found that it's one of the best spas in town. They offer a variety of services, and I think I've probably tried them all; from massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, to cuts and colors. The staff is always professional and on time. The facilities are very clean too, which is something I always look for. I typically only make spa appointments now and go elsewhere for salon services. In the past, I would come home from college and make hair appointments here because they were pretty flexible and are open until 9. When I made my appointment I would specifically ask for a more experienced stylist. (I know it's vain, but I love my locks!) However, on one occasion my stylist was switched last minute, so I had a fresh-out-of-school novice for my cut and color. The cut was fine, but the color did not last beyond a week because she just she didn't mix the color with any developer. Needless to say I was disappointed after paying so much, so I've since been going to another salon. That said, I do appreciate Mitchell's flexibility and professionalism. Well I was surprisingly disappointed in my massage this evening. First I would like to give my massage therapist a 5 star rating. She was absolutely amazing. I had the best 90 minute massage with her focus on my neck and shoulders. She did the best she could to provide me a relaxing massage but what a distraction it was based on the room my massage was given. Unfortunately this was not a reflection of the massage therapist a poor reflection of the Spa and the room I was receiving my supposedly non relaxing service. Just 30 minutes into massage I was not able to relax due to the room I had the massage in because it was a joint room with a cheap non noise canceling divider. The divider did not conceal the loud obnoxious conversation that taking place. At first I thought it was perhaps outside my door. Even with the semi serenity music going I could my neighbors conversation distinctly and clearly. If I wanted to pay for a massage at a loud venue this was the evening. My advice for those receiving an expensive 90 minute massage to check what room they are in because it was disappointing and a distraction. Clearly Mitchell's Salon and Spa should know better than to book two clients in the same room at the same time with cheap divider. The client next was a complete strange to me and she was creating a lot of noise and cackling laughter which could be heard right next to us. I have coming to Mitchell's every month for the last four and this was first negative encounter and hopefully the last situation to ever occur in this manner. I made my comments to the receptionist and she gave me a 15% off discounts which was nice gesture but did not make up for the hour that was lost listening another clients problems when the intent to receive a relaxing massage with serenity. Hopefully they change the location and ambience of where two unknown clients are located while receiving an expensive therapy of this sort. read more

I had my first appointment here and was very excited for a big change. I was going from plain brown hair to a ashy ombré. Kathleen was awesome in making sure that I had a realistic expectation for how it was going to turn out. Unfortunately we can't just snap out fingers and go from brown to platinum blonde :) However on thing I really was not happy about was that it seemed like we were trying to rush. I do have pretty thick and long hair, and for a balayage they are given a three hour time frame. I wish the receptionist would have asked about my hair length/thickness when I scheduled the appt that way we have known that it would have needed more than the allotted time. Mitchell's is The best salon and spa! The best massages, hair color, pedicures, and facials in all of Cincinnati. It is beautiful, chic, fresh, and relaxing all in one. This is definitely the place for pampering yourself, a group of girlfriends, or a bridal party. Mitchell's is my home away from home, so to speak. I have been a faithful client for years. I have been with my hair designer for 15+years and massage therapist for 6 years. I would never dream of going anywhere else. I get my hair colored every 6 weeks and a massage weekly. I waited over 30 minutes and I can be pretty patient, but once I was taken back by my stylist I felt super rushed. It was a quick bang trim, but the whole time I was there she was asking me, in a non-pleasant way, how many times I'd been there before, when the last time I came in was, who I had seen there previously. Loved this place when I went. Michelle is amazing! Great environment and the stylist did things with my cut that no one else has ever done. Amazing!!!!!! It is pricey but for 20 more bucks you are WEARING the results on your head. You get what you pay for! Update- ha! I should have taken my advice. Now I'm paying for it with the lack of hair on my head. So, trying to cut corners and save some money, I decided to go to a different salon with better pricing (because it's just hair, right?! Anyone can do my easy thin hair!). Mitchell's was $65 and this other place was $25 so I figured I'd give it a go. I had an extra 6-7 INCHES cut off at the other place and now my hair is so incredibly short above my chin. I just recently left the salon for a maternity massage. I felt very sick during my massage and Tammy absolutely excellent. She was so kind, and patient with me. She didn't mind that I had to stop early because I felt ill all of a sudden and even got my services discounted for having to stop. However, the woman who was checking people in was extremely rude. She made me feel overly uncomfortable. She offered everyone else the beverage bar except for me upon arrival. She also said something along the lines of "good luck to you" in a sarcastic and Demeaning tone. She didn't say, have a nice day, how are you today nothing. I know I may appear younger however I am in the service industry and I'm appalled with her lack of customer service. I will be booking with Tammy again, however I hope Mitchell's hires someone who's literally the first person you walk in and see that is more friendly and less judge mental. The woman was older and had a very short pixie styled cut, which was white or silver or gray. Even the front desk associates checking out were nice. I felt very belittled and mistaken by her. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE MASSAGES AT THE DAY SPA ONLY!! If you are looking for pampering, you've come to the right place! The spa here is very serene and comfortable. The changing room/showers are clean and accommodating. When entering the day spa, you are usually greeted with lemon water and your robe & slippers. The massage rooms are comfortable and appropriately appointed. The music is relaxing and the oil they use is fantastic. I've done the pregnancy massage (which is the same as a regular massage, minus stimulating certain muscles/points), the black stone massage (the rocks are placed along your spine and on certain muscles in your back & are VERY hot), the 90-minute massage (my favorite), and the standard 60-minute massage. All the therapists, on every level, are phenomenal. They've all asked me where I'd like them to focus prior to each massage, which is fantastic. I've been coming to Mitchell's for my haircuts for the past several years, and even had them do my hair, makeup and nails for my wedding. I've simply never found a place that does a good job on my hair as consistently as the stylists at Mitchell's. I've even seen a couple of different stylists here and I've always been pleased. The salon is huge and they offer you drinks while you wait to be seen. It's well kept and nicely decorated. The only flaw I can really get them on is that sometimes I don't feel welcome in the lobby (as if certain cashiers are judging you) and setting up appointments on the phone can be a bit confusing if you get the wrong person. But, I let those go because I haven't found any other salon nearby even half as good as Mitchell's. read more

I wrote an earlier review of the Mitchell's location in Hyde Park but the West Chester location is actually quite a bit different. First of all, the Mitchell's in West Chester caters towards a crowd of soccer moms and high-school prom-goers, so this salon is not quite as hoity-toity as the Hyde Park store (read: you can stop by in sweats and you're going to get treated as any other customer). Another plus of the West Chester location is it's size, at least three times the size of any normal salon and spa; Mitchell's in West Chester has a day spa area completely separated from the salon. This division makes for a much more relaxing atmosphere for a massage than one in which you can hear the chatter of stylists and blow-dryers. The size also speaks to the number of employees the salon and spa has; I have never had a problem booking a last-minute appointment at this Mitchell's, even on a Friday afternoon! I've been to a few different stylists at Mitchell's but I have always liked Taylor's color work and cuts. One star docked because I don't feel like Mitchell's puts too much effort into making customers feel like stars (every great salon knows how to do this). read more

I have been attached to my hair for as long as I can remember. I've cried over so many bad haircuts that I've lost track. After 4 years in Indiana for college, I found myself back in Cincy in desperate need of a haircut, but with no hair stylist! I have several friends who go to Mitchell's and always have great hair, so I decided to try them out. The stylist I requested was on a leave of absence, but had recommended Ashley in her place. The results? Fantastic! Ashley understands my attachment to my long hair and she's also just fun to hang out with for an hour or so. The last time I went I decided to go with a darker, reddish hue, which I was very nervous about doing. Ashely was able to find the perfect match and I got complements left and right after it was done. The prices are what you would expect for a nice salon, but Ashley is a lower level stylist so my wallet doesn't feel too drained after and I still feel like I'm getting the same results I would with a higher level stylist. I also love the fact that they have a diverse array of magazines (ie not just gossip mags) and offer you a drink the moment you step in the door. My only complaint is that the front desk staff can be rather snobby. I always feel like they are judging me when I roll in with little to no make up and comfy clothes. I've been coming to this location for a few years to get my hair done and I won't go anywhere else! Piper is THE BEST. She is excellent with color and does such a great job with my hair. She is really good at staying on top of the latest trends and is always showing me new products that would be good for my hair type and style. Pre-COVID Mitchell's was worth the high price for a massage, but after COVID was not good. Treated like a prison inmate, ordered to use hand sanitizer, sign a legal disclaimer, take temperature, then wait outside in the rain until they call you in. Massage therapist Skill was just "okay", no robe offered, no disposable slippers, no water afterwards. Also, when appt made, I asked price and was given $98 that turned out to be $109. Renee Feltner is the best stylist there! Admittedly, I have not gone to many other stylists...why mess with a good thing? Renee is the stylist to many of my family members and I always recommend her to friends. She is very busy so it can sometimes be difficult to get an appointment, but she's worth the wait. She is very patient and always listens to what I am looking for. I am not very adventurous when it comes to haircuts and I have never felt pressured to do anything drastic, as I have with other stylists in the past. I am getting married next year and could not imagine having anyone else do my hair. The staff at the front desk are either very friendly or very snobby. It isn't a big deal though because my interactions with them are usually limited. Mitchell's can be expensive, meaning I don't get my hair cut as often as I should, but I feel that it's worth it. The atmosphere is relaxing and I like that they offer you something to drink. I also like that their magazine selection seems diverse and current. read more
