The store is clean and well organized and the employees are friendly and helpful. One of the best things is you can try/taste the cheese. Ask for a taste of a particular cheese you are interested in and an employee will cut the cheese and give you a taste. If you go to Eastern Market, give DeVries & Co. Cheese shop a try. Nice selection of cheese and sauces and gifts in 3 floors.

Definitely a cool stop in (or near?) eastern market in Detroit. It's 3 floors but the one you…read moredefinitely want to check out is the first. They sell edible goods local, foreign, and basic. The problem is that everything is somewhat to grossly overpriced. The local stuff sure - for example, I paid $2.50 a piece for Bev's Bagels (decent, nothing compared to mid tier NYC bagels but better than the vast majority of what you can find in southern Michigan). But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Overall it's a cool store and definitely worth checking out, but unless you're looking for a particularly rare cheese the likelihood of finding anything worth purchasing is slim.

There are several different "sheds" which are basically huge barns that house tons of different local vendors--everything from produce, plants, ready made food, apparel, sweet treats, handmade crafts, coffee and other drinks, etc. We had a blast looking around each of the sheds and saw lots of interesting items. We didn't end up buying anything, but I would love to go back again. The market is open on Saturdays year round, and even in the coldest January weather there were a lot of people there! They have extended hours in the summer months. One of the best parts of visiting the market was the ample free parking in their lots. We also had fun exploring the neighboring shops and restaurants! If you like a good farmers market, be sure to add Eastern Market to your list to check out.

No matter when I came he has had a rube and nasty disposition at me, with those working under him taking notice in shock , some apologizing for his behavior, this is not the leadership that should be displayed !. He would go out his way to greet every one around me to, yes angrily rolling his eyes at me. He made it very clear that he had a unwarranted dislike for me, including one visit with my sister accompanying me, which she took offense to his behavior at me as well at her, leaving her waiting unserviced to assist the customer after her, which he would disregard me being next in line as well. One visit I asked the nice young lady if she could make sure my purchasing of chicken was done he over heard our conversation, in the nastiest and rudely demeanor put his hands into my boxed order ( No Gloves) pulling out the meat breaking it saying look, then told her to throw it away!. The last straw was this past weekend ( Friday) with my order, arriving finally to the relax and enjoy to my surprise bitting into my chicken the taste and texture was off. Something told me to take a look at what I had began to eat, to discover the most ( unrecognizable Orange substance, photos are in their gallery ) I had ever seen within any meat within my 60 years !. After the long holding calling the store I was told by him if I was unsatisfied with it, return it,no concern on what I had just explained experiencing eating a foreign substance!. When doing so I was again treated in the same matter his normal at me, then with the management over him, that he had the young lady call to conclude the interaction of my refund, boldly saying with a nasty face it looked like it had been ( inJected), I held my composure, no apology or concern, but (here) ugh face placing my refund in my hand. In a good note I'm grateful and thankful for great customer service that was provided by the young woman that work under him, speaking being polite, he (they) should take notice and follow under their example of being a decent human being that chooses to work in customer services, this would help the business instead of forcing them away !.

It looks so small but each option they have is excellent! Service has also been great, I was there Christmas Eve looking for marinade ingredients and couldn't find what I thought I needed. Chatted to one of men working and he made a sauce recommendation that is my new go-to. More importantly the mustard sauce marinade for my baked corned beef was the best I have ever tasted.
