She quietly would say when something was going on my face that was cold or might catch someone off guard but left me alone enough so that I could relax. In fact, during some of the service, I fell asleep! I feel like that's a compliment in itself! She was super welcoming and kind and went through a questionnaire before starting. Located off Rt 3 in the same plaza as Lash Moi and Namaste Indian restaurant. Booking an appointment was pretty straightforward, and I felt fortunate to find availability this week. What was good? Plenty of parking and a cute storefront (jewelry, hand masks, bags, etc. Gave a sort of co-op feeling as there is also a hairdresser on site. Areas for improvement: Talk to the client, explain what will be involved in the facial, and advise them at every step. For example, when I put on a mask, you might feel some tingling. Probably the worst thing was this was a "dry facial". I inquired about this at the end, and she said she "wet her fingers and used a warm towel because she was concerned about my lashes." This was substandard service at best. There was mask residue on my neck and in my hairline. No lip balm at the conclusion of the service. Did not mention after-care instructions, whether sunscreen was applied, no lip balm or hand massage. Not sure if it is because she is untrained, unfamiliar with other skin types, or didn't care. My original review is below but the owner commented to say that she is disappointed because they tried multiple times to work out the price difference. That is true but my concern was when the price you're quoting me is different from the price I'm seeing on Groupon (which your company signed up for and you verbally said you would honor) and your daughter's resolution is to "just give her the price and tell her to get the fu*k out" when no one at any point disrespected you or your staff....that is trashy and rude. The fact that you have no issue with your daughter's actions because you honored the price you said you would honor to begin with speaks volumes. Good luck to you too and I hope your daughter's rudeness does not cause the downfall of everything you worked hard for. Let me start with saying Drew did an excellent job. 10 stars out of 5 for my hair. My hair looked great. She was gentle and made sure I was comfortable. The front desk young lady was very welcoming and sweet too. The one star comes in for the owner's daughter and her disgusting attitude. I found the salon on Groupon and decided to check it out because my normal stylist is now 4 hours away. I called and asked if instead of buying the Groupon they would honor the price listed on Groupon. Picture should be included ($109 with an additional discount bringing it to $87). They agreed. I go to pay and they're saying it's $109. I explained to them the price difference and asked should I just get the Groupon since it's ringing up as $87 and they're charging me $109. To which the owner's daughter says "JUST CHARGE HER THE $89 and TELL HER TO GET THE FUCK OUT." To which I stated that was rude and handed the phone back to their front desk girl. The front desk girl realized something rude was said and apologized profusely. To reiterate I was calm, kind and professional the entire time. I was simply trying to understand why the price listed wasn't being honored when they said they would. The owner's daughter decided to cuss at me for trying to understand. A little teen who was simply trying to do her job was put in an uncomfortable position where she felt like she had to apologize for a grown adult (I assume) not having common decency and a level of respect that you would expect from people running a business. I've been going to Mixed Elements for several years for hair, facials, and brow/lash treatments. This is the friendliest salon I've ever gone to - all the staff are fun and pleasant and you know they want to do a great job for you. The place definitely has a low key, 'you're part of the family' vibe where you are listened to and made to feel at home. There is no pressure to add services, choose more expensive services or buy products. In fact, I've gone in asking for a more expensive procedure only to be told by Sandy, the owner, that I didn't need that one and a less expensive one was recommended instead and turned out to be exactly what I wanted. What a lovely find!! Mixed Elements is tucked away behind the Blue Dolphin at the Princess Centre. It is spacious, clean, well appointed, calm, and the employees are personable. My nails were painted by a wonderful nail technician, Monica, who listened carefully, was fastidious about her craft, and she had more knowledge than I about nails. She was generous with her time and patience, and engaged in friendly conversation. While the cost of the service is slightly higher than most other area nail salons, the relaxing experience is well worth the cost. I am very glad I happened upon Mixed Elements! read more

It's been a week since I got my hair cut here. Each day I try to love it more but I just can't. When I came in I specifically told my stylist where I wanted my hair cut to. Not sure what she heard but she just kept cutting and cutting and cutting. The one thing she did hear was the layers that I wanted to frame my face. However, since she cut my hair so short, and threw in some last minute face framing snips, all of my hair settles at about the same point. It's heavy, it won't curl nor will it go up in a high ponytail without falling out. Which I specifically asked to make sure of. I went and had another stylist look at my hair and the only way to fix it is to now cut more length off to make the layers look right. I wanted to love this place but I simply cannot. DO NOT GO HERE! after 2 sessions with the salon my friend's hair color was done wrong twice! Since this coloring was for an important occasion, we had to make an appointment somewhere else. Sandy Barone was not accommodating at all. Even though we tried twice and they would not stand behind their product and make the customer happy, Sandy was more concerned with her money stating that there is a "no refund" policy. However, it also states on the website: "Our talent is impeccable, the products we use and recommend are of the highest quality and we aim to exceed your expectations during each and every visit." After trying to explain the dire situation to the owner, Sandy, she didn't even care. She said, "We'll just keep doing it until we get it right." And kept repeating that there is a no refund policy. How many times is that supposed to be? Worst experience ever. Make sure you AVOID this place if you want things done right. Don't go through the vain effort of a business owner who only cares about money, not the customer. She clearly doesn't understand how customer experience and customer service works, so I'll try and explain: If you make the customer happy, you will get repeat business, you will be able to sell them more, and they will refer you. If you try to make them come back a third time because you couldn't get it right the first two, make the customer happy with a refund and FIX THE PROBLEM! What's a few dollars versus losing that customers and everyone eh or she tells about the bad experience. read more

Just had a "diva cut" with Patrick. He was GREAT! Never in my life have I had such a fantastic cut for my curls. He dry cut it, washed and taught me how to put product, dry it and care for it. It came out fantastic!!!! I'm obsessed. The place is also very clean and nice, they have pretty jewelry for sale as well as the products. OHH! And the chairs to wash your hair, they auto recline back and lift your legs up and make you lay. It is the most comfortable thing! Never have I seen that before! I will be back! read more

This review is specifically for Eve's Awakening Massage & Bodywork. In one word, WOW! Amber is the massage therapist at mixed elements, a multi-service place for beauty, rest, and rejuvenation. It was the latter I sought today. My first stop was an expensive nail spa with a suggestive picture on the front door. Since I was looking for a different type of happy ending I kept it moving. Thankfully Amber was able to squeeze me in as a walk-in! The facility is beautiful, front desk staff cute and friendly, and their boutique offered a variety of quite reasonably priced accessories. NOW, on to the massage. Technique - superb. Aromatherapy - on point! Pressure, flow, and transitions all excellent. I left there feeling like I'd been at the spa for hours! I wish I were not moving just for this hair salon. They always have appointments within a few weeks for a Deva curl cut. Brenda cut my hair and its FANTASTIC. I made the mistake of either not following directions or writing down instructions about how hair should be left for this cut. Brenda immediately let me know there might be a small problem with that, but was willing and able to accommodate. She took direction well, and cut my hair just like I wanted. I do wish I had longer hair to work with from the start, but after she cut it, there was still body, bounce, volume and a good length for how "wash and go" I am. We all still wanna look cute. My only tiny criticism for this salon is that there could be better dusting and very minor cleaning of some areas that aren't regularly used. Admittedly, I'm a neat freak. The salon is DEFINITELY clean. Based on how excellent their service is, its probably difficult to focus on anything but clients. This salon is a solid half hour from my house and it's worth the drive. NAILS: My sister-in-law and I got manicures and pedicures at Mixed Elements for her birthday and it was so nice. I was pleasantly surprised that the salon features private rooms for manicures and pedicures - we were the only two in our room. Erin and Tracy did our nails. They were so nice, it was like hanging out with friends. HAIR: While I was getting my nails done, I mentioned how hard it is to find someone to cut curly hair and that the lady I was going to changed her hours so I can't see her anymore. Tracy told me about Patrik and he came to introduce himself while my nails were drying. Patrik did my hair for the first time yesterday -- He really knows curly hair. He gave me some tips on how to cut down on frizz in humidity, and used coconut oil on my hair, which is something I've heard of but never tried myself - it's great, by the way. I highly recommend Patrik. I enjoyed the time I spent with him and will be a repeat client. Fun Fact: Their shampoo chairs lay you flat and massage you while the person washes and conditions your hair! read more

Wow. I'm really surprised at these reviews. I just had the best hair salon experience of my life. Prior to this I'd been going to Ulta in Gambrills, and previous to that Varuna Aveda in Annapolis. And whether I've spent 90 bucks at Ulta, or close to 300 at Varuna, I've never really walked out happy. I find that unless I opt to pay the extra to have my hair sizzled to death with a flat iron, my only other option was to walk out with frizzy, mangled spaghetti-string curls after the stylist tossed some gel in it and called it a day. Sooo not the case at Mixed Elements: my results were AMAZING. Long story short, I got a Devacut (specifically for curls) with Patrick -- super friendly, very knowledgeable. He cut my hair dry, explained the shape/style he was going for, and gave me a bunch of tips on keeping my hair in good shape. When he handed me off for shampoo, he specified exactly which shampoo for the other stylist to use based on my hair type. She, in turn, showed me exactly how to go from wet hair to setting my curls. He diffused my hair and sent me on my way -- the appointment took about an hour, and what I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED was that during every step along the way they clearly explained the process. I learned how to actually style and take care of my hair type. And not once did I hear a compliant about how thick my hair was, or how much hair I had -- which every previous stylist I've ever had has managed to complain about. And did I mention that my hair looks awesome? I never imagined it could even look like this! I was promptly welcomed to the salon, and immediately taken back by Karen who spent a great deal of time asking me questions about my lifestyle to help determine the best cut and style for me. The scalp massage during the shampoo was the perfect thing to help me de-stress, and the massaging chair at the sink was the icing on the cake. Karen did a fabulous job on my hair, showing me how to use the round brush to get just the right amount of volume. Let me introduce me and my hair first-- I would go to hair cuttery and never had an "OH MY!!" Kind of moment, because the stylists skills, knowledge and personalities were very lackluster, to say the least. After doing my hair, cut and color, myself for 6-7 months, I decided it's time to go to a stylist. I was recommended to Mixed Elements by a close friend, and I was without a doubt having that "OH MY!!" moment finally. The entrance is beautiful and clean, the reception is relaxing and inviting, and even if you do have to wait a few minutes, they offer refreshments and the ability to browse -- not only hair products, jewellery, accessories and beauty products are also available. It's the best experience I've ever had walking into a salon. When they take you back to be washed, the sinks are comfortable on your neck and the chairs even massage you, as well as the relaxation of having your hair washed. Those that color your hair, they will use color safe products. Don't worry! Then getting the cut, it was without a doubt the best experience I've had. My hair cut was by Patrik, and I could feel his excitement and liveliness as he did exactly what I wanted. I showed him a few reference pictures for designs, and let him know I like to keep some length on the top..other than that, I told him to do whatever he wanted. So there I was, 10 long weeks out from my last hair service. Settling back in the DMV from a cross country move and being in and out of the hospital, I had gained enough energy to FINALLY focus on my appearance and found Mixed Elements on yelp. And boy, was I glad I did. My appointment with Patrik was wonderful. No color swatch necessary, it's like he read my mind. He is friendly, warm, and just a pleasure to speak with. I was impressed with the separate areas for steps in the hair process (color room, cutting area) and how everyone was just super friendly. I felt like I was at a friend's house instead of a business. Kara managed the pulling through of the color and was so sweet. They were able to tint my brows to match as well, which is great. And the chair! It massages you and lays you flat while you're getting rinsed. How do I get one of these at home? My wavy hair has new life and great movement thanks to Patrik and his magic. I was there fifteen minutes prior to the appointment as required to fill out the new customer form. So, from 12:15pm to 1pm no one ever came to see me to introduced themselves, nor to let me know that Patrick was running late. When I finally got up at 1pm to tell the receptionist I was going to have to leave, because waiting for 45 minutes when you have an appointment is unacceptable; she simply said: " I totally understand, have a great day". However, I recently had a horrible experience and was disgusted with the way I was treated when asking for a refund after returning for the third time to get my hair done correctly. I had my first hair cut and style at this salon two days ago. My stylist was Erin and she was very personable and friendly. Usually I just go in to get my hair wash and cut without partaking in conversation however Erin was different. She kept the conversation going which made my experience fun. The washing station chairs actually go up and flatten out! Erin kept my hair cutting length conservative even though I would have liked it cut shorter but She offered to trim it more if I decided later on that it was not short enough. The only reason I gave it a four star vs five start is the cost for a basic cut, & blow dry was $60! I didn't expect that when the prices on the menu was 40-60 for haircut and style. Is a blow dry considered a style? My hair isn't that long....but I guess I should have expected to be charged full price compared to the lower end of the price range. read more

I have super curly hair, and I have gone to three stylists in the past year who I was less than impressed with. Patrik at MIxed Elements KILLED it. He was a PERFECT fit for me. I went it without any idea about what I wanted, other than I wanted it shorter. I explained to him what I was having problems with (my longer layers are always straighter and don't blend in with the rest of my hair, I need a low maintenance cut because I will not spend a ton of time on it). He took that and ran with it. He explained to me what he wanted to do with my hair, and explained how it would help (cutting the curls so that they blend into each other, framing, layers). Then he went to work. He didn't try to make small talk, and he was fast and efficient while still being super detail oriented. I have never seen someone cut my hair with such confidence. When he was done, he told me there was a section he wasn't completely happy with, but he wanted to see what it did after it was wet and allowed to dry on its own before he cut it more. When he was done washing and drying, he came back to that section and didn't need to do anything to it, because it had dried the way he wanted it to. Long story short, I love my hair.
