I mean, I've lived in NY and CA and this is just WOW, one of the best stores I've ever entered food-wise. What a collection. Perfectionistic levels of curation. (Applause.) Real flavors! From all over. From people who create these products with passion. I own 4-5 brands (Mama Teav's, Hotpot Queen, etc.) of the jarred goodness sold here and thought I'd scoured. Nope! The owner Takeshi (Tak) introduced me to even more amazing products in jars that had me so happy! Wu Yin Taiwanese Black Vinegar, 50Hertz Tingly Foods Green Sichuan Pepper Oil, Crispy Ho Chili Crunch, Kuze Fuku & Sons Tartar Sauce, Superlova! Dan Dan Sauce, the list can go on and on... Do you know why? Because I tried 10, that's right 10 delectable things in jars. What?! The quality was so high for each one. There was a Shiitake Mushroom Spread I wanted to try that wasn't in the fridge that he wouldn't open and also I couldn't believe all he shared. I've never experienced so many samples in a store, before! I'd be in this store all the time if I lived here. I could tell he really cares about his mission. Oh look, they're online! Yay. I'm going to include the Shiitake spread because I just trust his selection. This place should have a neon sign. They've earned it! read more

I really enjoyed coming here my first visit, so I was raving about it to my friends. They happened to have an event for the belltown art walk, so we popped in. I was planning to buy some more of the gochiso snacks and maybe another adventurous item, but my interaction was very unpleasant. As we're walking around, I noticed that people were sampling items by the cashier. I asked if we could sample something as well and the guy very condescendingly said that if we're "actually interested in buying something then we can sample" and the item had to be in a bottle or jar. I was caught off guard with that because he assumed we would not be buying something and was kind of ignoring us before. I brushed it off and asked if he possibly had samples of the gochiso snacks (which i knew were in a bag, but it is still a harmless question). He looked at me like i'm stupid and said "no, that's not in a bottle or jar". It was a very unpleasant interaction and I left the store immediately after feeling very uncomfortable. Ok, so this place is amazing! The owner sources all of the ingredients themselves and is so exceptionally knowledgeable about where the products are from and who makes them. I had parked nearby and planned to walk to Pike Place Market and had to stop in on the way. I bought a bunch of stuff and then the owner lead us through a tasting of the highlights of their store: sweet, savory, salty, and bitter, and boy was it difficult to pick what other products I wanted. There was no pressure to buy, just someone willing and passionate to share about their food. I will absolutely be back here and I can't recommend stopping by here more highly! read more

Like Disneyland of high end Asian ingredients/sauces. Don't miss the chance to do a either or both, a soy sauce tasting or the chili crisp tasting. The proprietor is more than a connoisseur of the category he is a former food scientist that worked with sensory perception. So when you are tasting something, like 6 varieties of soy sauce from different countries that have distinctive flavor profiles, you are doing more than just slurping some brown salty stuff. He walks you through the origin, history, usage, etc. Bring a backpack because you are going to leave with lots of bottles of really cool stuff. From ponzu sauce that is made with citrus not found in the US, to cherry wood smoked soy sauce that you only a drop of to turn anything into a rare, mind-blowing experience. Located just north of Pike Place Market on 1st Ave, its worth it to take a stroll out of the Market and explore what Belltown has to offer. Every snacker's dream is the mixed pantry. They have almost every type of chili oil I've ever loved on the market right here. Tak is really gets to know the products that he holds at the shop as well as the company he works with. I have a friend who is currently in the talks with regarding her jerky, and they two of them had some heart to hearts regarding really spotlighting asian centric food and snacks. This spot also has a ton of classes like dumpling making classes and soysauce sampling. He also discussed the desire of wanting to to carry additional grab and go items in the future. This spot echoes the former Hyphen, however, there are more products to check out with a updated layout. After seeing the KING5 feature on Mixed Pantry, I made sure to stop by on 2/18/24. I enjoyed going through each aisle and shelf. I ended up buying more sisig mix, two bags of Sugimoto tea powder (hojicha and genmaicha), and a jar of Dan Dan Sauce. Takeshi "Tak" Kunimune, owner of Mixed Pantry, sure has upbeat presence and effervescence. One feels welcomed while wandering through the shop. Love that Hyphen lives in in two businesses. Was finally able to check out Mixed Pantry this weekend. Have been wanting to visit since they opened. Tak makes you feel right at home and is so knowledgeable about the ingredients he sells. So nice to have a place to get imported speciality items and other goods from Asian American companies across the US. Love look of the space, open and lots of natural lighting. It's always wasy to find items they're never overly crowded sheIves. I always walk out with a purchase this time it was with curry popcorn and a sweet yuzu vinegar. Mixed Pantry offers a diverse selection of Asian culinary ingredients, and it's an amazing gathering space for small local businesses. Tak, the owner, is easy to talk to and he's passionate about bringing the community together, showcasing AAPI talents (in both art and culinary worlds), and revitalizing the Belltown area. They host chilli crisp and shoyu (soy sauce) tastings here, so you can sample some options before purchasing a full bottle. It is pretty overwhelming to venture into a grocery store and try to figure out which of the 20+ soy sauce brands to buy (my family only used Kikkoman and Maggi, so there wasn't much incentive for me to venture outside of these brands before), and I'm grateful this space exists to assess the differences. They also frequently hold events in collaboration with other local AAPI businesses. I bought some Tanuki coffee beans, a shoyu brand that Tak recommended, and Kari Kari chilli crisp. There is local Sugimoto tea as well as other condiments and spreads here, including varieties you won't find at Uwajimaya. They have some known but not local to Seattle brands - as soon as I saw Zindrew chilli crisp being sold here, I knew that the ingredients here are well curated and intentional. It's a positive and uplifting space, and the store is brightly lit, clean, and organized. The sampling area is designed like a home kitchen counter and the small art space is like a living room - so cozy and welcoming. read more

A curated shop with tons of asian snacks , sauces, and everything in-between. Items are both locally made in Seattle and other parts of the US. Mixed Pantry believes that asian food should be accessible so they have samples on pretty much everything in store! I've tried everything from chili crisps (they have my fav, Kari Kari!), jams, and spreads. We love this place! We bought so many of our Christmas gifts here. The guy who owns this place is such a friendly dude. We live in the area and go often. It's a lot of Asian American snacks and goods. He'll offer samples and talk you through his favorite products or what he'll think you like! I was gifted Kong's Chicken and Rice Sauce, and Cabi Umami Dashi Soy Sauce, both from Mixed Pantry. Loved them so out of curiosity I looked up the store and made a visit! It is a small, relaxing store with a good selection of curated products. I bought several soy sauces, for me and a couple to keep for host/ess gifts. Mixed Pantry has both soy sauce and chili crisp tastings, each which take about a 1/2 hour, and have a fee. I didn't have time but would like to come back with some friends to do these. read more

This is, to use a word which has gained favor in The New York Times and among the intelligenstia, followers and their wannabes, this is a "boutique" that "curates" for serious foodies. Beautiful inside, it appears to be a Manhattan art gallery rather than an Asian grocery. I didn't know that their "chili crisp" tastings (that I was apprised of, again, via the NY Times) were $10 but I went ahead and bought an 8 oz. jar after sampling eight or so (half teaspoons each) varieties. A pleasant experience, I wanted to kill time in Belltown that afternoon. But $16 is pretty steep. But it was for "the experience," right? And the "Community" could use support? But it seemed a bit "unreal," knowing in the back of my mind, that something closer to "The Real Thing" existed a mile south, in the ID. read more

This is such a cute place to go visit and also just experience a wide variety of spreads and chili oils! The owner is so nice and offered us samples of everything that we were interested with. This place is amazing. I first visited when they were a pop-up and met the store owner who is the friendliest, most hospitable guy you will meet. He gets so excited to share samples of different soy sauces, teriyaki sauces, chili crunches, etc. and they are all so flavorful and delicious - way better than what you can get at Whole Foods, H-Mart, etc. As if that weren't enough, the prices he charges are totally reasonable (I'm pretty sure if one of those big box stores sold these items they would charge twice as much). Considering what an amazing store this is, I am shocked this place is not always packed and hope more people come shop here. I know we will definitely be back and are so glad it is now a permanent fixture. read more
