The rice selection was incredible, and the owner shared all of the details to help me make the right choice. Typically, find a surprise treat like truffle potato chips, or a prepared soup. Saw an instagram reel that said this place had all the fancy French butters. Was hoping to get Le Bordier, but I got bars of Beurre de Baratte, Paysan Breton, and Les Pres Sales while I was able to get pats of d'Isigny. The Baratte is my fave because it's super creamy. Loving all the salts though because of all the salt crystals. They also have things like wines, charcuterie, and sweets. The only thing that keeps my score from being a 5 is because it's small and so there isn't more inventory. But their butter alone is why I know I'll be back! read more

Sweet ladies offering a wide variety of Southern European goods. The place is not cheap but has a great selection of food and wines. Service was great. I have been to this shop half a dozen times. Paris Madrid has a great selection of French and Spanish cooking supplies. They have specialty cookware from paella pans to tagines and cazuelas. They also have special spices, for example, pimentón (Spanish paprika). There is a nice variety of high-quality cheeses. While the selection is smaller than nearby DeLaurenti, the shop is much less crowded, which means you can more easily talk to the staff, try samples, and take your time figuring out just what you need. It will be better than what you find in the regular grocery store. Of course, you'll also find a great selection of wines. read more

This is my favorite hidden specialty grocery store in the market. This place has everything you never knew you wanted. I will say, it's definitely on the pricier side, but it's well worth it for the unique products that they have. Two different grades of Iberico Jamon de Bellota, several other unique cured meats. Cheeses, spices, bakeware, and lots of beverages. Bitters, wine, spirits, apertifs, and non alcoholic sodas galore. One thing to note is it's quite a small space, with covid restrictions, expect to possibly wait or consider calling ahead to ask them to set aside items for you. read more

Awesome deals on cheese! I popped in on a dark evening while furniture shopping in Pioneer Sq and below the Market. Not only was it the big, beautiful glas case of cheese that caught my eye (or the free samples!), it was the whole store. Much like the Spanish Table, but French, this little grocery store has some adorable French treats, snacks, drinks and various nibbles perfect for hosting a party or for grabbing a quick few things to take home and eat. Mostly pre-packaged and imported goods, expect some of the prices to be a teeny bit high. But worth it! In addition to strictly French (or even just European snacks/treats) you can also find a variety of sodas, juices, and locally made breads. It's basically a little market that focuses on French items. Which for me is perfect because France is so awesome yet so far away! read more

Check product expiration dates. We brought crackers and cheese to the counter to buy, the friendly cashier warned us the cheese was marked with a low price because it was expired (sure enough, it was past its labeled expiration date), and only after we left the store did we realize that the crackers we bought were also past their labeled expiration date. Aside from that, the store selection is very good and prices fair. They sell D'Artagnan meats for lower than I've seen elsewhere in Seattle. Their unique, good beverage selection -- the tarragon soda is delicious -- approximates Cost Plus World Market pricing. read more

I heard about Paris Grocery and had to go especially since it is the same owners as the Spanish Table. While Paris Grocery had a nice selection of products, there was nothing special in terms of food product that you couldn't find at DeLaurenti, some of the small shops around Pikes Place Market or even Trader Joes and other specialty shops. However, I am disappointed that two items I purchased turn out to be past their manufacturer's expiration date. The first was a frozen package of wild boar sausage that expired on 11/22/10. Since it said "use or freeze by" that date and it is frozen and assuming it never thawed then it should be ok if I use it soon. The other was the imported Payson Breton au sel de mer butter from French. It expired on 11/10/10. I had no reason to look at the expiration dates because it looked like the owners had just put out a fresh shipment because there was a lot of sausage and butter on the shelf. I would have to guess that they have a lot because it is not selling. read more

I had heard that the Spanish Table owners were opening Paris Grocery, and as a francophile, thought I'd check it out. The goods were really friendly service and tastes of a number of cheeses. Selection was really good and discovered bleu de bocage, a slightly nutty bleu cheese that was really smooth on the palate. Also, they had rillettes and I'm an avid fan of all things rillettes. Negatives included being pricey, lacking a lot in ambiance as has been noted in the other reviews, and not a very wide selection. I studied in Bretagne and did a lot of traveling in Provence, and neither of these regions were represented very well. I would recommend getting rid of the overpriced American books about France and replacing them with a wider selection of French treats. read more

Hidden just below the market, this little gem was a highlight of my recent stroll down Western Avenue. Chocolate mousse takes a distant back-seat to this stuff. I was downtown with a friend this evening when she suggest that I check out this super-stinky cheese called "Epoisses". She mentioned that this new French grocery downtown, owned by the same people as The Spanish Table, was rumoured to have it. It was about 10 minutes before close, and we were just on the other side of the market, so I decided that we should check it out right away. They ended up not having her epoisses, but after she asked about it, they offered to special order it for her. What awesome service. That's the kind of thing I would only hope to have happen at the market you frequent regularly - certainly not as a first timer. (score one for Paris Grocery.) While they didn't have the specific cheese we were hunting for, they did have a fair selection of other cheeses (two display cases) and a very reasonably-priced wedge of bleu d' auvergne caught my eye. Their third case houses a selection of cured meats and patés. Having never paired bleu with paté before, I asked for a recommendation. Really stellar service and great selection for a place that's only been open 5 weeks. (For the record, both the bleu and the goose mousse go very well with a madeira.) In addition to my meat-and-cheese indulgence, the Paris Grocery also has a really great selection of france / paris / french food related books and jarred tasty goods (like jams and sauces, etc). The location's a bit warehousey feeling (they really could do a bit to warm up the space a little), and tucked away. Definitely worth stopping in at next time you're in the market area. For the record, my 1/4lb of pate, 1/4lb of cheese, and a baguette was $12. Not bad! read more

This place is a gem! They have a nice selection of all types of Spanish goods including cheeses, cured meats, wines, olives, and other goodies. Staff is very helpful. If you're wandering Pike's Place you can walk here by taking the stairs down through the driveway entrance and turning left when you reach the bottom. read more

I am sorry to see The Spanish Table collapse into the Paris Grocery. Half the square footage already cramped. With the Italian food store, they make up the most interesting food groceries in the Pike Place environs for us Euro homesick -- if not the best attended. The owner should make some deal with Le Panier in Pike Place Market (and Maximilien, and Café Campagne and etc.), so all the tourists who mob those great French food venues learn about this binary treasure tucked away on Western Ave two blocks south, far from the madding crowd. My own experience? My mom mentioned remembering raspberry lady fingers from her childhood. Paris Grocery had them in stock. Made her happy. I got a sudden hankering for jarred Béarnaise sauce (I'm a foodie, not a cook). Paris Grocery has it. Makes me happy. I like Chateau Neuf du Pape wine. Paris Grocery offers five labels. Will make me happy if I cough up the cash. When a store has vanishingly rare stock and few customers except millionaire condo owners (the massive rush of tourists don't find it), then use-by dates will run out and prices will shoot up. You want shiny new and cheap, try Walmart. You want to make your gourmet parents happy with some incredible, surprise treat that reminds them of their Paris honeymoon or Barcelona childhood, try these people. They won't disappoint. read more

Unlike the Spanish Table, this place is strictly amateur hour. Where to start? Like many other reviewers, after I got home I discovered the jar of taramasalata I bought was past expiration. And a mason jar of cassoulet was ridiculously overpriced and not as good as the canned stuff from the Monoprix near St. Germain de Pres. The ambience is spare in a way that seems more indifferent than deliberately minimalist. And the staff behaves like you are interrupting their high school club: insular and immature. Perhaps worst, the washed rind cheeses are wrapped in plastic and taste like ammonia. When I pointed this out, I was told they're supposed to smell and taste that way. This was said by a staff member who "buys a lot of cheese, so I should know." The gaggle of other employees paid no attention except for seeming annoyed -- so sorry to interrupt your huddle! You guys need some training in customer relations and in cheese. As it is, you fill a retail void so badly that the absence would be preferable. read more

I had been looking forward to checking out this little spot for ages on so many recommendations. However, I don't and cannot drive, and so I have to carry my belongings in a (small, not that it matters) backpack that I keep with me. They have a sign on the door that says that everyone must check their backpacks so they don't accidentally knock things over. Yet they don't ask parents to check their young children at the desk for the same reason, nor do they ask people with large purses to do the same for similar reasons. What about a large person? I think it's clear it's not about "accidents" but about other stereotypes. I've had this experience my entire adult life and there are too many other cute posh places to get treats at in Seattle these days. I'd rather go somewhere that doesn't see me as suspicious or reckless just because I have to lug my belongings with me. Nor do they offer any guarantee that my belongings would be secure while I shopped. Thank you, but no thank you. read more

This place is by far has the most disgusting spoiled/expired food. DO NOT BUY. Read the other reviews about people buying food that has expired. Didn't have the best experience at the owners other store (the Spanish place a few doors away) and stayed away for a long while. Having a French family, decided to give it another try and go to this place. BIG mistake. Never again. I am baffled how they stay in business. "Hello, I wanted to forward you this picture of the Saucisson we purchased at your store just yesterday. We were so excited to find French products that we purchased about $180 worth of products. To our great dismay, when we opened the Jambon we had purchased, there were two black, long hairs in the folds of the folded slices. We then went to enjoy the Saucisson and as you can see opened the package and there is mold all up and down the sausage. We then proceeded to open the Foie Gras and that too had gone bad!! We are going out of state in the morning for the week so we do not have the opportunity to stop at the store and get at least a refund for the bad products.
