It's quite small, but it was fun to browse some special chili oils, spreads, tinned fish, chocolates + dry foods like rices and beans + fresh produce and frozen foods. I've never seen their chocolate varieties before and left with two bars of a brand called Mild Addictions (made with chocolate and dates)-- espresso and coconut flavors! Definitely pricey but I'm excited to try out my edible souvenirs from the area :) There wasn't really any customer interaction until I was at the cashier, and he was friendly and pleasant. If I lived here, this wouldn't be my weekly spot for all the groceries (maybe for the produce though!), but I might pop in here to splurge on a special item or two for myself!

Not that fake "rustic but expensive" energy... this is the real deal. The kind of place where you half expect someone to hand you sourdough and life advice. Now let's talk about that wood-fired kitchen... The smell alone should come with a warning label. You walk in thinking you have self-control... and 5 minutes later you're ordering like you just finished a marathon you didn't run. Zero regrets. Grab-and-go here is elite. Perfect if you're road-tripping because everything feels intentional--like it was made for people who say "we'll just eat in the car" and then end up parked somewhere scenic turning it into a full dining experience. I feel like it's presence in the area has changed the tone of the other businesses and bringing the quality up substantially. Owned and operated by the stellar team from Petaluma Market, Penngrove market has a ton of amazing things. I have been known to pop in and wander even if I don't have anything I need, just to see what they have seasonally or new. I love their gourmet options and so much is locally sourced. In the back, you will find fresh pizza and sandwiches made for lunch time and dinner and they also do to go dinner that you can pre-order for your entire family which is great. Some of my favorite things from Penngrove market are the JM Rosen cheesecake, their awesome selection of chocolates and desserts, and the ever-changing coffee, tea and spices. For the wine and beer drinkers, they have a small but impressive selection of local and imported beverages, as well as many drinks for those looking for something refreshing and non-alcoholic. The coffee bar at the front is an excellent choice for morning pastry and hot drink, or you can bypass that entirely and go for the Strauss organic soft serve which is honestly not to be missed. The location of the store is easy to get to as long as you are coming at a time that does not coincide with school pickup, and there's lots of parking right on the street or in their parking lot. Prices are moderately high, but what you get for that price is high quality and supporting local business which works for me!

The product is so hard on the edges on certain sections of the loaf that it literally is inedible, so after 46 years I will not be buying two loaves a week any longer, sad to see it go, but there are definitely other alternatives out there, by the way, any place that I have lived in California the bread was always consistently good and have lived for the last 35 years up in Humboldt, getting my bread from the Eureka co-op.

After sampling some of the best meats we had ever had, I happily pledged that I would write an exceedingly favourable review for their meats. And if Zoe's Meats wasn't listed, then I would create an entry! Now, there is no physical storefront for their items but they can be purchased online and at local markets. If you go to their website, you can see where to find them in San Francisco + Seattle. Their company has been around for nearly three years and is eponymously named for the daughter one of the founders. When they sign up any new customers regardless of any size, type or location, they ask for a local school or community programme to receive 1% of their future purchases. Zoe's then works with the schools to use the funds towards developing educational like school gardens and education about good nutrition. They have pledged to deliver their meats to schools at no profit because they wish to eliminate manufacturer marketing and distributor profits. They also want to upgrade the quality of the foods our children are eating. How cool is that! Nitrates are limited in their products. They also try to use only naturally-occurring preservatives whenever they can like celery extract and sea salt, both naturally occurring nitrites. I could continue to extol the virtues of their meats but the proof is in their taste. So check them out or ask your local market if they carry them. It's worth your while.
