The atmosphere was very pleasing, alot of items on menu, presentation of the food was Excellent. Food taste was ok, nothing to make the place stand out. A host of items on the menu, offering something for the whole family. The shop was both clean and tidy, having plenty seating. The hostess/ waitress was attentive at all times. I have been going Miyos for many years and the food is always delicious. The service however, left a lot to be desired this evening. I had to ask for the waitress so I could order. The restaurant was not crowded at all and there was plenty of wait staff available but several of them were watching TV and standing around talking. I had to flag down whoever I could get the attention of to help us get what we wanted so we could enjoy our meal. I even had to get the take-out managers attention to ask for the check. Strange experience, I am a no fuss person, don't care for over the top attention or reverie, but some sort of welcome, acknowledgement or introduction is highly recommended. It his case we came in in to have dinner and there is no clear instructions on what to do, the place was moderately busy, no sign to tell you what to do, no hostess, no greeter, nothing. My husband and I stood at the door for an incredibly uncomfortable time and no one acknowledged us at all. The work staff seem to be in their heads or not care about what is going on. I convinced my husband to walk around and assess the situation (there are a couple of walls obscuring sections) The place might have had 6 tables seated, and a cluster of people there for takeout, so not overwhelmingly busy. We stood by the door for a good long time before one of the servers finally asked us if we had been helped. So that was awkward. We got seated and handed menus. Got our drinks order in and when he brought them over we were not yet ready to order so he left and took for ever to come back. That happens often but in this case we were already annoyed by the whole thing, so annoyed we considered leaving the money for my husband's beer on the table and leaving. The service was crummy and the atmosphere was just blah. It didn't leave a long lasting impression in me so I don't think I will be going back. read more

Delicious!!! The food is so good. They are always kindly accommodating. My family has added and removed things from sushi rolls and hot dishes. You can also get steamed veggies instead of rice- at no additional charge!! It is such a treat to be able to find great (american version of) Chinese and sushi in one place. What a joke. I've had better sushi from a grocery store. Apps were bad, too. This was (barely) Chinese buffet quality food, but at triple the price. In fact, I wish I had eaten at one instead. Been to Miyo's three times in my past two trips down to Columbia, South Carolina and I must say, although the sushi is not as good as the sushi in the Northeast, it's the best sushi I have experienced in South Carolina. The fish is fresh most of the time. Not the best grade of fish but not too shabby either. But not only is the sushi good, the rock tempura shrimp is to die for! The lightly tempura fried shrimp glazed over with a spicy mayo sauce passing my lips and stimulating my tastebuds is a feeling I'll never forget. I've had pretty good rock shrimp here in the Northeast but I must say, the best rock tempura shrimp I have had is at this Miyo's. overall, Miyo's is pretty darn good. Not phenomenal, but definitely beyond edible. And just remember, ROCK TEMPURA SHRIMP! I posted a picture of it in the photos. Check it out. P.S. I have never left a yelp review before, but after such great service at Miyos I just had to. Me and my friends at here on Tuesday and it was very nice. The highlight of the experience had to be our service and the excellent food. We had a lovely server named Sierra who treated us like we were the only customers in the world, although I could see that she was quite busy. For average Americans who have never had real Chinese food before this place is great. For everyone else who inderstands value and quality this place kinda sucks. It's basically Chinese buffet without the buffet. Only difference is you get the food right when it's cooked. Not worth the price you pay for the meal. I've been around Chinese food my whole life. Miyo's never ceases to impress. The food is consistent, plentiful and delicious. Their fried rice dishes use quality ingredients and are a better than most options around for takeout fried rice. The rest of the menu is also fantastic, including a great selection of sushi and sashimi using high quality seafood. A great option in Columbia. read more

Wow I must say that.... Miyo's in Forest Acres is amazing!! I believe the server makes the experience, and Tyler H was one of the best waiters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! He was extremely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. It's not everyday that a person witnesses such respect and kindness from a service industry worker! I've been in here a few times but after meeting Tyler he is definitely the best server there! Can't wait to go again soon, and if you're there ask if Tyler is working and to be seated in his section! Went in about 5:30 on a Thursday, not crowded of course. I had crispy flounder w/chili sause, wife had scallops kung pao. Both dishes were incredible! Service was excellent; could not have asked for a better dining experience. Also had shrimp wo ton chili sauce appetizers a d they were great. Highly reccomend if you l iij je good spicy food. Caution this is a rant...not my normal posting. For the last 3 years I had been having meetings in the 'party room' at Miyo's on Forest Drive's on Forest. We met on Saturdays from 12-2 and never had a problem. We always had great service and enjoyed the food and our meetings. However, for the last 2 board meetings we have had reservations in that room on Sunday afternoons 2-4 and something has 'happened' to our reservations. The first time a person came in and made a scene and we were moved out of the room. However, yesterday we had a confirmed reservation and when we arrived we were told that the room was not reserved for us. To make it worse, we were told that someone else had reserved both the big room and the round table and perhaps we should go some place else to eat as it would be quite a wait for us. So, Mike (our President) had a word and they ended up seating us in the main area and we continued on with out board meeting. We were in the restaurant until 3:45. NO ONE CAME IN AND OCCUPIED THE SPACE AT THE OTHER TWO TABLES. Not in the large 'party room' or at the round table. We were lied to and that is absolutely, totally, unprofessional and not to be tolerated. It appeared that the wait staff did not want to open the other area of the establishment. They tried to tell us that we did not have a reservation. They implied that Mike had been calling one of the other locations---NOT!!..... This really disappoints me because I usually have a group that eats at Miyo's on Forest Drive at least once or twice a month. I, personally, eat there at least 3 time a month. However, that will change. A lie, is a lie, is a lie and cannot be tolerated either in a personal or a business environment. The trust you place in a business relationship is important to the community.................That trust has been broken. However, the food is always fabulous. Joyce. read more

We have been here 2x in the last week (that in itself should tell you something). The sushi is very good compared to what I have eaten in Columbia but the Chinese dishes we tried were the standouts. The braised eggplant with minced shrimp and chicken is to die for. Though a bit oily, it is just sweet, salty, and spicy enough to keep you digging in long after you're full. The kung pao chicken is light years ahead of what you get at most places, not overly sauced, and just spicy enough. A tofu dish and the moo-shu chicken we had were also top notch. Service was very friendly, they remembered us from the last time we were there, and made us feel at home. Note, the cooked food on the weekend took almost 45 minutes to get to us. Our server told us that they have all new chefs, most of them Chinese, who speak very little English. The language barrier has been difficult for them to overcome. The other reason for the long wait, and this is a positive, is that all sauces are made to order. While that translates to delicious food, it can take forever if there is a big party in the house (which there was for us both times). Try the teas to drink. They are outstanding. "Asian Fusion " is normally not connected with "Authentic" but the food here is very close to being authentic. Chinese dishes and sushi are delicious! There was hair and a used gum wrapper in my son's Shanghai Noodles. When I called to inform them of the issue they were unresponsive and rude. Very disappointed. Upon entering the staff looked almost disheveled. Waiter couldn't offer any details on Peking duck he had never served. Initial soy and wasabi dishes were metal containers u might serve a melon ball of whipped butter in. Alternative was a glass ramakin that was sufficient. Octopus salad was decent. I don't know how to judge sushi but I had an experience chewing that made me think, not fresh. Not bad, but didn't blow me away. I was referred to Miyo's as "great Chinese" and it seemed a little higher quality than the usual "China Wok in a strip mall" joint, but it just wasn't outstanding. All of the Miyo's restaurants in Columbia have regressed in quality but this one is especially bad. Everything I ordered had an issue. I ordered nigiri sushi, she brought me sashimi. Edamame was dripping wet with water. Ginger salad did not have the iceberg lettuce per the menu but the mesclun greens which was just as well as the dressing was bitter so I had to switch to a non ginger dressing. Eel sashimi was puny. The specialty roll was bland. If you want sushi I would try Inakaya or Saky. read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but, after my last encounter, I won't return. I had company and was totally embarrassed after talking up the restaurant for a few days. We did a takeout order of two entrees and five apps/side dishes. The Mongolian Beef, my go-to dinner, was awful, chock full of onions, possibly red, and three very small pieces of beef. Two orders of dumplings came without the dipping sauce. The lettuce for the chicken lettuce wraps was so brown and wilted that I threw it out. All in all, it was a complete bust. I understand that all of the Miyo's restaurants are for sale. Perhaps all of their previous chefs have found other employment. read more
