I discovered this place from a reel on Instagram. Since I'm a sushi lover, I'm always looking for new places to try sushi, but the extra bonus was seeing the Tempura Asparagus on the menu. I definitely had to try that. The restaurant is very stylish and I love how it is split into two sections. Service was great - no complaints there at all. On my first visit I got the $12.99 Lunch Special, which came with 1 Tako + 1 Roll and a side salad. I got the Baha Fish Tako and Triple Tango Roll which were both very good. I stumbled upon Tako Sushi while walking around Main street and decided to try it out. It was an awkward time of day between lunch and dinner, so they weren't very busy. They had a few outdoor tables with umbrellas for shade, which is where I sat. For drinks, my server mentioned they had mocktails, but the menu didn't feature any. I told her anything refreshing would be fine, and the bartender ended up making me an improvised drink with mango and lime. It was a little too sweet for me, but still very tasty, and the presentation was cute. For food, I ordered the Southwest Salmon Tartare and Augusta Roll. The Southwest Salmon Tartare was a generous portion size for an appetizer and came served with a basket of tortilla chips. The salmon tasted fresh, but the amount of sriracha mayo was a bit excessive. The Augusta Roll was simple and tasty - not bad, but not super memorable either. Was dining at Tako Sushi this past weekend while in Columbia after a long time - so glad that they're back downtown! My best friend and I got edamame to share, and I additionally got a miso soup. The edamame is perfectly salty - I hate when I order edamame and it comes out only lightly salted but you have no salt shaker at the table. The miso was pretty good, but it struck me as odd that my bowl only had one tofu cube. I was definitely looking forward to more. Finally, I got the Volcano and Rainbow rolls, which were perfect. Went here with my family. I'm not a fan of sushi so i stuck to the tako side of the menu. We had the tempura asparagus to start, it came with 6 big fried sticks of asparagus that were to die for. I had the Chile Releno as my entree, good thing I was splitting it because it was huge! It tasted amazing and came with multiple sides. I went with a few of my friends and we called ahead to accommodate a group of 5. We arrived a few minutes early and waited to be seated. It took 15 minutes to get us seated, when there was only one other single diner in the restaurant. The service was terribly slow. We each ordered a drink, a taco/app, and a sushi roll. I just paid my credit card for a dinner here last month and got mad all over again at paying $100 for a meal that was worse than mediocre and came with frustratingly bad service. We should have known when we found the restaurant empty on a weekend night (other than one large table) after ending up there when two restaurants down the block told us they were completely full all evening. We waited for ages for any service, and the two main courses when they finally came showed up more than 20 minutes apart. The Asian noodle bowl was okay, although mostly bland steamed veggies and broth. The taco burrito was truly bad--cold, unseasoned, crunchy rice, paltry fillings--bad enough that it made my girlfriend cry, I actually politely told our server how disappointed we'd been. It would have been nice if she'd offered at least to warm it up if not comp or replace it, but no. Also, given the crazy wait, an appetizer on the house--or at least and apology and update on the delays--would have made a difference. Let me start off by saying I attending the grand opening on Forest Dr. so this review reflects this location. The location is easy to get to and the decor for the grand opening was cute! I was greeted warmly and joyously when I entered and even received a 1yr reward for free queso and dip for being one of the first 25 customers! The decor on the inside is elegant and modern. It is on the smaller side than I imagined it to be. The bar is center which is a nice set up because the decor and seats set off a nice atmosphere but is casually enough for lunch or after work drinks or eating. My waiter was so sweet and nice. One Easter even found crayons and paper for my sons to draw with while we waited for our food! Anything I wanted to know she was happy to ask the manger or other staff. I ordered the shrimp shumai(dumplings) the Susan roll, fries and a Mai Tai cocktail which was good! The fries were on the softer side but I know next time to ask for fried hard. The seasoning on them was good though! The sushi was good. Nothing spectacular but still good! My MIL ordered the tacos and she said they were good! Ordered Takosushi for lunch today. I'm familiar with the quality of the Augusta and Evans GA locations and was expecting the same quality to be across the board. However, this location sadly did not meet the standard. The tempura asparagus and tempura shrimp that was in my Jessie Roll were both fried too hard to eat and beyond salty. Whatever batter they used is not what is served in the other locations. Sushi also tasted like it'd been sitting out for at least 30 minutes even though the location is only 2 miles from me. I used to like the old location a little but I think the food is lousy, overpriced and they don't have an affordable lunch menu. This was our first time at their new location. We went often when they were off of Assembly. Without a doubt my favorite thing to order here is the tempura asparagus. They come in a little boat and is loaded with the Takosushi sauce, which really sets it off! Our entrees were the chicken stir fry and the firecracker shrimp. Both came with rice. I loved that my rice had some of the Takosushi sauce on it. The stir fry was full of vegetables and was very flavorful. My husband enjoyed his firecracker shrimp. He particularly likes the sauce. When went on a Monday evening and it was not busy at all. We were seated immediately and the customer service was excellent. I was very impressed with this restaurant! We ordered the pork potstickers to start. They were very good and the sauce paired well with the potstickers. They were soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. We then ordered three rolls (Hawaiian, micki's, and rainbow). The sushi was incredible! The fish was the perfect silky smooth texture that just feels like it melts in your mouth! Hands down some of the best sushi that Columbia has to offer! Our service was also great here! Our server was very kind and helpful. She promptly refilled drinks and brought out everything we asked for. We were seated at a small table by the window and the ambiance was perfect for a casual lunch. However people were continually coming in and out through the side doors, which was distracting, so I would not recommend this spot if a more intimate setting is desired. This location is just down from the Sheraton hotel. I was able to sit at the bar and started with an Old Fashion. I know sushi and bourbon??? It was a nice drink but I would suggest they invest in some real cherries and use less bitters. I ordered the steamed shumai dumplings. The physical plated dish was unique. The dumplings were warm and moist but had little to no flavor. Thank goodness for dipping sauce! I then ordered two different rolls: Jim Jim and Stoney. My first experience with Takosushi was in Greenville, South Carolina. It's one of their flagship stores and it has been open for the last several years. We went consistently and had sushi and happy hour appetizers. Having that knowledge, I was very excited about Takosushi opening in downtown Columbia. We went for dinner on a Saturday night and took some friends along with us. I had hyped up the experience on how wonderful the food was in Greenville. Unfortunately, our visit was nothing short of a disappointment. First, our service was lacking. The young college student who served our table was stretched quite thin between the bar area, outdoor seating, and main seating/kitchen area. She struggled to interact in a timely manner with our table, did not know any of the specials, had to confer with the kitchen several times, and did not fulfill orders together. It was very frustrating. As a matter of fact, if I had not known that the business had happy hour specials we would not have heard about them from our waitress. As for the quality of the food... The appearance of each food item as it reached our table was disappointing. The sushi looked like it had been decorated by an eight year old. Compared to the quality of the presentation in Greenville, this was done by a "newbie" at best. There was also sauce missing from the sushi rolls that had to be requested. Despite the look, the flavor was still good. My one critique is that our sushi was soggy from the amount of sauce placed on the plate. The potstickers, chips and guacamole, and chicken taquitos were all quite average in flavor. (And some of the items were overcooked...) The best food items served at our table as a whole were those that had to be prepared fresh from the sushi bar. I would like to try this place again in a few months and see if they have improved the quality of their service and presentation. If this location wants to survive in downtown Columbia something will have to change-- soon. read more

Our lunch group went here yesterday. Our first time since they moved into the Arcade location. Service was great and I made a table for six of us. I ordered a spider roll and a starter of the asparagus. Most of the other guys or stirfry with either shrimp or chicken, while one guy ordered the chili Relleno and another ordered potstickers. The food was great and everyone liked it, especially the asparagus with the sauce on it. I told him that was my favorite thing on the menu and I had always ordered one I have been to the other restaurant before they closed. The appetizer for the asparagus was quite large with about six or seven pieces of asparagus, breaded and fried with the sauce on them. The sauce is great and I wish they had a little more sauce than what I drizzled on the asparagus. They're very large pieces and I had two of them that were sort of tough and didn't come apart when you bit into them, but they still are one of my favorites. My bill with tip was $32. read more

I just had to have my Chili Relleno fix by trying a great new restaurant in the 1300 block of Main St. again. Their Rellenos are some of the best I have ever had. They fast fry then for a crispy shell that sets them apart from others. My Bride had a vegetable enchilada and a verde chicken enchilada that were also excellent. Their ranchero beans were great and we both loved them. The guacamole salad was excellent and set the meal to the top. They have a lot of sushi here so that is my next taste unless the Chili Rellenos get me first. BTW, excellent staff here and the manager checks on everyone to make sure everything is right.
