Celebrating 125 Years!!…read more Angels Flight, a 298 foot funicular / inclined plane, originally opened on December 31, 1901. It connects Hill Street with California and features two vintage cars, Sinai and Olivet. It is open from 6:45am-10pm every day! This was so fun I rode both cars - up, down and up again! $1.50 each way... such a deal! The ride itself takes less than a minute and besides a little shimmy and shake when the cars pass each other, it is a straight shot. You can pay with your metro card, debit/credit card or cash. It's a fairly streamlined process & you pay at the top. The gates for the funicular are automatic at the top and bottom of the hill & only the top is staffed by an employee. If you want to save $1.50, you can always walk up the nearly 300 stairs to the left of the funicular & get your steps in! Peace.

There was a short restroom break at Los Angeles Public Library at 10:30 AM. Our group also rode Angels Flight Railway and fare was covered as a part of the tour. [Conclusion]: A solid tour and it was a great experience to learn some basic history of buildings in Downtown LA. I would definitely consider doing some of their other tours to learn more about LA.

Another season of the Los Angeles Conservancy's, 'Last Remaining Seats' series. Started in 1987…read moreto draw attention to the amazing historic theaters of Los Angeles, the film series has since become an L.A. can't-miss beloved summer tradition. On this particular visit, we saw "High Noon" at The Million Dollar Theatre. The movie was supposed to start at 2pm. While the program started at 2pm, the movie didn't start until 2:36pm. Instead, of starting the movie on time, they held a lecture on the politics of the film, and info about the director and actors. I wish they would do this AFTER the film, or at least, announce that a lector will precede the film. About 30 minutes after the film finally started, the stage lights came on the screen and changed color about every 15 seconds (see pics). It was so ridiculous, that the audience started laughing and yelling at the house to do something about it. When the lights finally turned off, the audience cheered. Also, the sound of the film was much too loud, and at times, it was painful. Everyone around us (including us) had to cover our ears throughout the screening. When the film was over and we exited, there were two AV guys sitting at the soundboard in the back of the theater. I guess, they did not have the skills to adjust the volume of the film, or the lighting of the screen. Now I know that LA Conservancy is largely operated by volunteers, but one would think that after 38 years of playing films in classic movie theaters, they would get it right by now. These events are not free, so maybe next time they can pay a professional to play these films???? I am still a fan of what the Conservancy does (5 stars), but I may think twice about going to see a movie next year, if they can't get it together (one star).

For our first trip to Taiwan, it was hard to believe the places we went were actually "Taiwan". Sun-Moon Lake for example, felt like a high mountain lake in Europe. Parts of the Alishan Mountains felt like we were in one of California's coastal redwood parks. In sum, it was a fabulous tour. We want to go back and do one of Supera's other tours of Taiwan (i.e., Taiwan's east coast) next.

I had never heard of such a thing before but have already been to it twice since Dec. while visiting my grandma. it's sort of become a nice thing to do when getting the family together ever since it opened (end of Dec. 2009). There is really only so much adventure/stimulation in strolling down the boardwalk of Dana Point, after all. So in short, this is a small, glass cart that travels up and down the hill connecting the Strands beach to the parking lot above. Apparently it was created as an appeasement to the public for the Über-wealthy real estate being built along the beach (you can read about it on the site) This thing seriously travels like a snail and has about a 10-15 minute turnaround if you just missed the boat (or had to wait b/c its too packed to enter). It really is super impractical and seems to be a reverse psychology for getting exercise since the alternative for impatient people is walking up the giant staircase. but let's face it, it's all about the novelty factor, and it's basically a free "disney land ride" - i.e. an excruciating wait for a few minutes of fun. Currently it's running on the off season schedule (weekends and holidays only). I cannot imagine what madness will ensue when summer hits...given its already gotten a lot of attention and is always a full ride when ive gone. Might end up being the less-than-fun-icular experience. we'll see!
