This was my first and my last time here. Their is a up and a downstairs area. Upstairs is I guess VIP but myself and at the three other tables came to do hookah. Apparently, if you buy a hookah at any point you could be evicted. You also can not transport downstairs. So if someone out of no where wants to buy the table your at they came. So if your 10min into you hookah your night is done and yea you will NOT be compensated. Your little 50 or 60 is gone. This was a Friday with supposedly silent pArty. Where ever you sit be sure to ask, can someone buy this table and if so will y'all move me to another area or is my night done. That's not okay you a hour in and your night is just done. And they could care less. I will never go back. The wine is a horrible selection also. read more

Went there on a Friday night around 8:30 to watch the Cavs game. First of all the folks that worked there were was so rude-it was as if I was doing them a favor by being there. Drinks come in dingy little plastic cups and the music was so unbelievably loud that you couldn't hear the next person speaking except when their speaker would go out(which happened every so often and killed my ears). This place has so much potential but isn't run properly. The hookah is just ehhh. No one ever came by to replace the coal or anything and they don't use quality tobacco. I want to really like this place because it's in my neighborhood but I'll stick with KISS lounge instead. read more

I was visiting DC and I was looking for places where I can listen to good music & this place was suggested to me. We went on a Friday night. There was no cover charge. Upstairs & downstairs areas were super crowded. The DJ upstairs was really good. My friends & I wanted to sit to do hookah but couldn't find anywhere to sit and as soon as a spot opened, we immediately grabbed the table. It took forever for a waitress to come and when she finally did come, she told us after 11pm that all seating upstairs was VIP and we had to buy $200 worth of alcohol (or bottles). And if we wanted to do hookah, it had to stand at the bar. She was very rude about it. So we got up and left. If she hadn't been so rude, we might have stayed bc the DJ was great. read more

The staff at this place was friendly, but they had no idea what they were doing. Our waitress could not even answer a simple question about a drink menu. But the worst part was their hookah. We smoke hookah all the time. After sharing a hookah at this place, both of us got sick. We got a terrible headache and became nauseous. Usually that means they don't clean their hookah pipes. I would have given this place a higher score if it was based just on the staff and not one of the managers. The waitstaff is cool and the hookah is on point. Show up during the week for drink specials but if there's no dj be prepared for the manager to only play what he wants and skip music half way through. read more

So I will start with what is good about the place before I give my reasons for the two star rating. Music is great and it's a fun turn up atmosphere. Food is pretty good, hookah is great. Fairly small so you gotta get there early to snag a booth or a table, otherwise you can sit at the bar, but it does get crowded later in the night. Everything was good about this place UNTIL me and my friends got the bill. They one did not tell us they only have top shelf whiskey so we were charged almost 15$ for the 5 whiskey sours we ordered, as well as top shelf gin for the two gin and tonics I ordered. Not only that there was a 30$ gratuity charge!!!!! We were a table of 3 that arrived around 8pm...when we questioned the waitress she explained that it was a mandatory gratuity charge for all checks. Our bill total was 200$ for the total of 8 drinks and a hookah. The prices do not outweigh the good music and atmosphere. read more

Came here on Friday with some friends. It was very busy and the waitress seemed all over the place (my order was forgotten twice). Yet when we did get our orders, the drinks were good and so was the food. Though I don't smoke hookah often, I will say it was enjoyable. Not as strong as other bars I've been to, which is fine with me. The atmosphere was nice as well and so was the DJ. However, the bill was very expensive, so if you plan on coming here make sure you're ready to splurge. Other than that we had a good night. read more

The place was empty because it was storming outside, and there was nobody in the restaurant. Only CNN on the TV... The 2 staff working there were really nice and welcoming and helped us hang up our wet jackets. They showed me a menu of Ethiopian food as well as salmon, chicken dishes. Of course I ordered the sampler platter of veggie Ethiopian food on injera. Then, after about 10 minutes, they came back to say they didn't have the food. What?! why..... ok and why tell me now? I was so hungry. They said they could get the food from across the street at Habesha (and I knew that made sense because Habesha is one of my favorite places to get Ethiopian anyway). Well, we finally waited about 40 minutes total to receive our food. Food was passable, but not enough injera for the platter. The veggie options were good: lentils, cabbage, collards, carrots, and some beets, but not thrilling on the taste spectrum. But I was really just disappointed that they had to get their food from across the street and made us wait. Not impressed and won't be going back ... for the food. Maybe as a hookah bar or for drinks, it has better service, I don't know. read more

The incontrovertibly abominable nature of Maraki's "service" dooms what otherwise warranted a 3.5 star review. Regrettably, however, the snippy yet clueless waitress not only floundered at simple tasks such as checking to determine whether our food was prepared, but she also accidentally provided us with spring rolls instead of the sambusa we ordered (which could have been a further disaster but thankfully we received vegetarian spring rolls). Given time constraints and our waitress's apparent repulsion towards performing her own job, there was zero opportunity to enjoy what we actually desired. Adding a second layer of frustration, the manager futilely attempted to browbeat my very determined lunch companion by arguing that her online deal wasn't valid. What he didn't realize was that he was arguing with someone who very recently had finished within the top ten in the world in an international mock trial competition. Needless to say, we got the deal but narrowly avoided paying for it tenfold in the form of a parking ticket. Service was one dimly lit star. Maraki doesn't only have abysmal service. The space itself has an almost foreboding character with almost no ascertainable light within it. Nearly seventy percent of the restaurant's space is taken up by its bar. If you want to sit at an unnecessarily cramped table while receiving piss poor service, do I have the place for you... Maraki avoids a one star review purely based on the strength of its cuisine. While it would almost be blasphemous to place Maraki's name with stalwarts such as Ethiopic or Zenebech Injera, Maraki does present solid vegetarian options at extraordinarily affordable prices. Specifically, the collard greens doused in clarified butter and their rendering of cabbage interspersed with carrots were heavenly. The remainder of the plate was adequately palatable especially at the aforementioned discount price points. Maraki's cuisine can only take it so far when there are serious impediments to what should have been a rather enjoyable experience. Perhaps the service is better on other days. Perhaps the atmosphere would not have been so awful during the evening. But I don't live in a world of hypothetical experience. Here, grounded squarely in reality, the 2.25 stars I'm providing Maraki is probably remarkably generous. read more

To add insult to injury it was served in a plastic cup and there was no salt or limes to be found. After we were served I asked how much it cost; she swiped my card and told me $40... for 3 shots! Recently my friends came from out of town and I took them to Maraki. The waitress waited until we ordered our drinks and hookah only to tell us we had five minutes to finish everything because it was time to close. If she told us we don't have time, we wouldn't have ordered; the bouncer was yelling and making a big scene. The manager knew the service was wrong and the waitress shouldn't have served us anything if she she knew it was supposed to close; but he didn't want to refund our money. We came to enjoy our night and to show my friends a good time but it didn't end well. Over all we had bad service and a disappointment to my friends. read more

I frequent mk lounge at least twice a week and I have to say it's one of my favorite spots. The music is always great and they have a dj every night. Plus it gets packed on the weekends and I can come chill without all the hassle of a club. You have to try the beef tips it's amazing!! Also if you're getting a drink make sure it's from bella or Naomi. They make the best drinks and have great service! Not sure why they're all wearing those tacky name tags though lol not cute. But all in all mk gets 5 stars for being consistent in the atmosphere and fun they provide! read more

Mohammed greeted us! After searching through 5-8 hookah bars and them all being closed we found MK! Love the atmosphere & the drinks are amazing! My jack and coke was perfect!!!! The food and service was excellent! Didn't even know this place was there. I love Ethiopian food (especially kitfo) and tried this with a friend after I came across a Living Social coupon. We ordered the kitfo, gored-gored, and one of the veggie Combo dishes. All was wonderful! We both have been to many of the Ethiopian restaurants in the area, and this was some of the best we have had in a long time. Service was wonderful, and the general manager even came up to welcome us and say hello. We will definitely be returning here. Give it a try! read more

Came here on a whim. I wasn't expecting much. But it is now my only place for Parron margaritas thanks to vanessa. I came in there two weeks ago and i was greeted by the best of Africa... Vanessa and Naomi. They were beautiful and charming. But its vanessa's margaritas that will bring me back. If you ever go to MK Lounge ask for Vanessa.... the chocolate bartender. If you are looking for an authentic Ethiopian experience, this should not be on your list of choices. As it is appropriately named, it is a lounge and bar that happens to serve Ethiopian food along with a mixture of American food for the less adventurous diner. I was there yesterday and ordered Doro Wot and was served about 16 ounces of sauce with what appeared to be one leg of a Cornish game hen. (It was also accompanied by a hardboiled egg and injera) I have eaten at many other Ethiopian restaurants in the region, and based upon my other experiences; felt that what was labeled an entrée on the menu barely passed for an appetizer. I brought this to the attention of the server and I was then provided with an additional piece of chicken which appeared to be the backbone of the chicken between the breasts, a piece of scrap probably more suited for flavoring in the preparation of soup. It was explained to me by the manager that this is the typical size of their dishes and that the backbone piece was essentially being provided as a courtesy. I requested and was brought another dish- beef tibs which I found to be acceptable, yet mediocre. The staff was pleasant in trying to accommodate me, yet I would not return here given the presentation, quality and quantity of the food. read more
