A quick Yelp search led us to this spot for our final dinner here in Prague. We were looking for a restaurant that would be a little more upscale than a cafeteria but wouldn't necessarily break our wallets. Fortunately, we were able to find an okay medium here at Mlejnice. First, be weary that they get booked up rather quickly. We came on a Wednesday evening and still had trouble getting a seat. A party ended up not showing up so we were seated with an hour time limit. Perfect we thought- that was all we needed! While the service here was only decent (must be be cause of how tourist friendly they are), the food was pretty good and filling for the two of us. We ordered the Pork Knuckle since it was a highly rated item across all of Prague and some Gnoochi with spinach. The pork was divine and easy to cut into to share between people. We also enjoyed the gnoochi although I personally found it to be a bit too salty for my taste. However, these two dishes were able to fill us up for the night. Now to go back to the service, it was definitely hard to flag down our server or get any staff members attention for the bill. Fortunately they did take card for our $30 meal, but they did add a bit of pressure for you to tip either on the card or in cash afterwards. Tip at your own discretion. If you're looking to try a good pork knuckle in Prague, this one here is a good contender despite it being a bit pricier than other places. read more

Goulash in a bread bowl! The goulash was a bit salty but the bread really went well because it cut it the saltiness. Pork ribs were bbq right and it wasn't overly seasoned. The portion was huge! Really great little spot with fantastic charm and ambience as well as the cool interior garden. Dove in here out of a minor rainstorm and had an incredible lunch. Had the most amazing hearing fillets with onions and then ate an incredible grilled sausage. Exactly what the doctor ordered. Being skipping distance from the Astronomical Clock, every table at Mlejnice Kožná was filled with the tourist crush. A waiter handed me a map and the Mlejnice business card for their new Žatecka restaurant which is across Old Town Square and about 2 blocks from St. Nicholas Church "a four minute walk." Boy am I glad he did! While the old "mill farmer" ambiance is similar, the Žatecká restaurant is larger which means the tables are more spaced apart. It was also much quieter. Only one other table was taken in the front room. The waiters had smiles on their faces and seemed so much more relaxed and friendly than the ones at Kožná. Plus, the food...I went for the Pork Knee roasted on beer with horseradish and mustard. To balance I had steamed mixed vegetables which actually were delicious in fresh butter. The star was the pork knee which had such a crispy skin it reminded me of good lechon back in America. There was so much moist, tender meat that I could only eat half. I had a relaxing lunch reading my guidebook. The waiter offered to refill my stein of Pilsner Urquell, and there was no sense of urgency or being pushed out to make way for more people which is how I would have felt at Mlejnice Kožná. This was the best Czech meal I've eaten in Prague. Salt was in moderation unlike so many other Czech restaurants. Smart Yelpers should be heading to this branch instead. It's our secret! read more

We found this location because the primary location, which was mentioned in the Rick Steves guidebook was full and they redirected folks to their second location. Fantastic food! We ordered the pork ham and pickle appetizer, two brewers choice beers, the pork knuckle, and the goulash bread bowl. The staff was friendly and spoke English, and the atmosphere on the outdoor seating area was perfect on a mid-September night. I read about this place on yelp, thank you Yelpers. The place itself is very cute and the staff were very nice and prompt, considering I stopped in at 2:45 for a late lunch. I had the baked brie, cranberry sauce was the best part of it and who doesn't like brie. It could have been served warmer. I next had the beef goulash, my first in Prague. Came here to experience "traditional" Czech food. We started with potato croquettes and cabbage pancakes with a side of Garlic sauce (SO GOOD)... I then had the highly recommended Beer goulash in bread bowl. The bread bowl was toasty and the meat stew was hearty and very flavorful. Don't have much knowledge about the authenticity of this restaurant but I had a great meal! P.S If your table has a drawer, OPEN IT... a surprise awaits! read more

Was searching Yelp for a place with authentic Czech food and initially came across this place's sister spot a few blocks away. Wound up coming here due to a tram mixup and was extremely satisfied. We ordered the onion rings, Beer goulash in bread bowl and salad with the same name as the 'raunt. All three were delicious! We drank 2 Urquells and I had a double espresso at the end. The prices were great considering its in a touristy part of town. The staff was very friendly and spoke English well. We were also glad they don't allow smoking at all in the raunt. Yummy in a huge way. Get the pork knuckle!!!!! I just jumped off a fancy cruise line with killer food and this place beat them. Service is European - no rush at all and you do need to request a check to leave. The prices (I think) are close to free and the servings are quite generous. This place is HORRIBLE!!! My friends and I found this restaurant via Yelp. We spent the day walking the city and were famished. We wanted to try authentic Czech food, and this restaurant was highly-rated on Yelp. We stopped by and were delighted that this place offered to seat us without a reservation. Side note: apparently a lot of restaurants in Prague require reservations or they will refuse to give you a table. Everything seemed fine when we placed an order for beers and a heap of food- again, we were starving from walking around all day in the heat. The beers came out fast. As for the food, we never got to try. Why? Because after waiting for literally over 1 hour, our waiter decided to blatantly ignore us trying to wave him down. The only time our waiter (an older gentleman) came to our table was to ask us if we wanted another beer. NO! We didn't want another beer. We wanted our food! He continued to ignore us after several times of trying to get his attention- very rude. Eventually, we had to ask another waiter (a younger man) regarding the timing of our food- at this point, my friends and I had already waited for over an hour. The younger gentleman comes back and informs us that the order was forgotten and was never placed into the system. Absolutely absurd and we were infuriated, frustrated, perplexed, and very hungry! An hour passed and our table was forgotten. We had literally ordered over 50 Euros worth of food, and they tried starving us to death. The younger gentleman was not to blame. But, the older gentlemen server was unapologetic and didn't even look at us when we exited the restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone! DON'T COME HERE! Instead, my friends and I decided to venture across the street to Sedm konšelů where we were promptly seated in their lovely interior courtyard and the food we ordered came out within minutes after being seated. We were a group of 8 adults & 3 children that were spending Christmas (2017) in Prague. On Christmas evening, the group had an early supper at Mlejnice on Žatecká Street. I've been to 2 of their locations and I definitely think that this is the better one. The pork knee is a classic and if you like tender pork meat, then there is nothing to be afraid of! The best way to eat here (in my opinion) is to come with at least one other person, order a big meat dish to split, and order cheap side dishes and eat family style! That way there is room in your wallet for drinks and dessert as well-total cost of a meal shouldnt be more than $12 per person including everything. This has been the best Traditional Czech food restaurant I've been to in Prague. So why not 5 stars? Well our spinach side was kind of cold and one time I got the apple strudel and it tasted onion-y, though I don't think it was at this location...plus if you're going to serve heavy and salty meat dishes, you should at least provide some tap water to wash it down with. read more

On a busy night don't expect the wait staff to exchange pleasantries with you -- they're busy! We ate here twice and LOVED it. I think as Americans we are accustomed to a certain kind of service that you just can't find in Europe very often. It's okay. Chill out! Our must haves: the pickled herring with red onion, the pork knee and the potatoes with ham, mushrooms and Edam cheese. Don't forget the beer! Weekend was super busy and our waiter wasn't super friendly but we didn't care. He was working and we were having a good time. On a week night there was a different wait staff and they were super friendly and more relaxed. Highly recommend this place. Edit: do NOT believe the person that said this is a tourist trap and compared it to TGIFriday's. It is a truly authentic Czech restaurant where you WILL see tables of locals dining. Some of the wait staff don't even speak English. Also, how can you even believe a person that has ZERO restaurant reviews. Excellent lunch. I had the pork steak with bacon and onions and a side of potato salad. I was expecting a pork cutlet and instead got an amazing 1.5 inch boneless chop that would have cost twice the amount they charged in the US. The potato salad was well done with herbs, bits of onion and mustard seeds giving it a complex, but light flavor, not bogged down by vinegar, or mustard or sweetness. My wife had the trout wrapped in bacon. The trout was nicely sautéed and she was surprised at how well it went with the bacon (what doesn't go well with bacon!). Easy to debone, it was light but the bacon gave it a smokey salty taste. Very good. The beer was tasty. We finished our meal with an apple strudel and two espressos. The strudel was solid, flaky and not tough. It came with both fresh whip cream and vanilla ice cream. Service was also good and we liked the rustic ambiance. A lot of care went into designing the interior. Just walked in off the street and wound up having an excellent sunday afternoon lunch. Simple food, well prepared and presented. read more

Came here for early dinner. Seated quickly, nice ambience. Service not very good and somewhat rude. Our fist dish of soup- was a moth on top. Not sure when it flew in, but unpleasant sight on top of our cabbage soup. They changed the soup but the memory of an insect in my food is hard to forget. Food was ok, the one thing I liked was the good amount of vegetable with dishes. I am in dire need of veggies after enjoying stable meat and potato type dishes in Europe. The food however was poorly flavored, all you could really taste was a lot of pepper. We had chicken roast with vegetables and beef with green beans. I was actually quite bored with the food, so bland other than pepper. We also had grilled vegetable side, do not recommend, tasted charred, no other flavour. We didn't finish it. After the moth in the soup, you think the service would be nicer to compensate. Nope. Continually cold. We were told there is no option of tap water, only paid beverages. That is shocking and the first time it has ever happened in all my dining experiences. They simply refused to give us water with our meals. At the end we were rudely informed service charge is not included on the bill. I still left a tip, but did not feel good about it. The food was very hearty, stewy, and meaty just how Czech food should be! There are two locations of this restaurant, this one has more room. We went to the other one by the sex machines museum with a party of 5 but were turned away to this place. Recommend going to this one because it's closer to metro station and has a lot more space. You walk into a darker room that has a doorway to another room, that leads to outside sitting! That was a welcome surprise. The outside sitting is in a courtyard. Food was delicious and the servings are large! If you're visiting the Jewish neighborhood this is the perfect spot to visit for lunch or dinner. The croquettes as a side are delicious, and the baked Brie appetizer is so good! They have a garden that's open during the warmer seasons, perfect for a drink! read more

The ribs were downright embarrassing, being drenched in some hot red sauce which was painfully clearly store-bought. Perfect for an anaemic without tastebuds. The gouljash, however, was pretty good, but it just wasn't able to compensate for the other disastrous dishes. Honestly can't comprehend how it ever got such a good rating.
