This place was AMAZING! My husband found it online by the reviews and it is really 5 stars. My half chicken was unbelievable. Fresh and tasty. The sauce that comes with it is amazing. I could eat this food every single day. My husband got the empanadas and tacos. I tried them and omg so good. After he finished he went and ordered more tacos. After returning to vacation outside of Calabash for the first time in nearly a decade, I was a little perplexed when a friend said yelp indicated that a Peruvian/Argentine style restaurant was the best place to have lunch. Yelp - you did good. Real good. The two folks running the restaurant took excellent care of us throughout a meal of a meal of a whole chicken and rice, beans, fried yucca and plantains. In Calabash, when it comes to restaurant choices, there's basically, seafood, seafood, and more seafood. I love Calabash seafood! Don't get me wrong. But it's nice to have something different occasionally. And with Calabash not offering much variety, this is why my husband and I were so excited to stumble upon Mm Que Rico. The bold splash of blue, yellow, and red colored decor brings a nice change to the average everyday decor in Calabash, and does so without appearing tacky or gauche. Inside the restaurant is clean, the vibrant colors continuing, and two owners who greet you with sincerity and hospitality. Can the quality of the food match the attractiveness of the decor and customer service? Absolutely. The welcoming simple menu (and reasonably priced, I might add) offers guests authentic Peruvian cuisine, without overwhelming them with too many choices which aren't discernible. My husband and I both ordered the 1/4 chicken plate with rice. He also ordered black beans; I, the guacamole. My husband's meal was 100% cohesive--the black beans mixed with the yellow rice was a perfect balance to the rotisseries chicken which is seasoned with a recipe the owner worked to perfect over seven years. Mmm Que Rico's arrival has spiced up the little fishing village whose luster was beginning to fade. I hope tourists and residents will give this establishment their business and embrace the bold flavors of Peruvian cuisine. Next time we venture to the beach, we're going to try the flan. Cool location next to the Calabash Creamery. Ate here for lunch on a Wednesday during the height of tourist season. Only two other tables were occupied, so that's probably not a good sign for this establishment's future. We ordered and our food was brought out approximately 10 minutes later. The chicken was very good and was served with tons of your run of the mill french fries. I felt the price was a tad steep but the food was pretty good. Admittedly skeptical at first about Peruvian chicken in the "fried shrimp" capital but it does not disappoint. Been waiting to try this place since we moved here and finally did and sorry we didn't earlier. The Chicken is moist, juicy and seasoned just right. All the side were delicious. We had the black beans, plantains and rice. A whole chicken with three side is only $20. We took half the chicken home. The sign is a little hard to read from Thomasboro road. And from Business 179 you can't see it. Just look for the Calabash Creamery sign and its in the same parking lot right across from Callihan Gift shops. read more

I've been here several times. The chicken was a little dry but tasty. The burritos and empanadas are out of the world they are very good. I was disappointed with the chicken though so I gave three stars. I did try it several times to see if maybe they were just having a bad day. We stumbled on this place after enjoying our ice cream next door. Our expectations coming in were high as we frequent a Peruvian restaurant at home. Great to get a new restaurant that has some international flavor in this area. Though the Pollo a la Brasa (succulent marinated / roasted chicken) is clearly the feature of this clean, very friendly and family run establishment there are other items not to be missed that you are not going to find anywhere else close. House-made Empanadas, fried plantain, fried yucca and Peruvian white beans were all great. Sandwiches served on excellent crusty rolls stuffed with Carne Asada, their chicken or Chorizo with Chimichurri or choice of other house-made sauce. The Chicha Morada and Maracuya drinks are made fresh and yes, they stock Inca Cola (I know that stuff has fans). Plenty of other choices for a sweet tooth, I tried the Flan since the owner's wife makes it and it was the best I've ever had. They also make the Bread Pudding there (this southern boy will try that next time). Good, authentic food prepared by nice people, give them a try. read more

This is a small family business, and mom n pop are the bosses here. Super friendly environment. You feel welcome! As for the food, the menu is limited (don't get me wrong, this is not a bad thing). I ordered the chicken with a side of yuca, excellent! We also ordered a steak sandwich, which was also fantastic. The only thing I wasn't that enthusiastic about was the beef empanadas, because I did not like the wrap they use, but the feeling was very good. We came here for lunch with my mom based on her recommendation (which surprised me, because she doesn't normally like different types of food), and we absolutely loved it! I tried a carnitas (pork) taco with spicy sauce and a beef empanada. The taco tortilla was a corn tortilla and was a little small, but had a good heap of deliciously seasoned shredded pork, and the spicy sauce was definitely spicy and a great complement to the pork. The beef enchilada filling was slightly spicy, and I added some of the spicy taco sauce to it which also tasted amazing. I even went back and ordered another carnitas taco because it was that good! My mom ordered the rotisserie chicken (which I tried, and it was nice and tender and juicy). The atmosphere is casual and you order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. The people who work there are so nice and friendly, and they answer any questions you have. My husband and I can only take so much fried seafood, and this is such a unique place for this area! There are times when the siren's call of fried seafood isn't so alluring - but if you're in Calabash, there are few other options. Que Rico brings a delicious, somewhat healthier, and more worldly choice. My wife and I have been to a few Peruvian chicken restaurants, and I consider myself fairly familiar with the concept. It's rotisserie chicken, and you can pieces that you tear off in sauces that are either a peppery hot, or that are smooth and tangy like mayonnaise, with a kick. The chicken here is absolutely the best I've had. It's moist, seasoned well, and just the right size. If you're an average guy, get the half chicken (I liked the dark), which will fill you up. The skin on this chicken isn't to be missed - it's so well-spiced that if you want to watch your figure and decide to skip the skin, you'll be missing what I think is the best part. As for sides, you'd be foolish not to get the fried yucca, which is cooked to starchy perfection. It's especially good if you dip the yucca sticks in the ahi Amarillo sauce (the yellow one). If you've never had yucca, the owner explains that it's like "French fries filled with mashed potatoes". That's not a bad description, but they're more appetizing than that description. The empanadas are all delicious - unlike others you may have had, which are deep fried, these appear to be baked, but that causes no loss in flavor. I especially liked the Spinach and Ricotta empanadas (which tasted like it had nutmeg in it), and my wife liked the chicken, which was a type of "barbecued" chicken with berries in it. Try one of each with your chicken! Overall, it's a deceptively simple meal that I will be sure to return to when I'm back in Calabash. read more

I called, and the owner said he would bring them right over, from Calabash to Sunset Beach. Above and beyond!!
