One section is garden inspired and the other section has more of a club feel. Our waiter was friendly and provided great recommendations. (Plus some spicy peppers for us to try, bit much for my palate) We ordered a lot of food. One of my friends really enjoyed the beef soup, the cucumber salad was pretty much sliced cucumbers, the yogurt dip was fresh and tasty, and the Bulgarian salad was a hit with great pieces of feta. The Deja Vu grilled platter for two was outstanding! So much delicious variety of meats! We added a skirt steak that my friend wanted, plus the pork and beef patties in Marsala sauce, and the white bean casserole. The bean and Marsala dishes were excellent! It was a struggle but we finished all of the meat! Definitely look forward to returning!

Sofia's is absolutely among those quality restaurants that should be considered the pride and lifeblood of Hasbrouck Heights. Easily one of the nicest and most family oriented Greek spots I've been to in recent memory. I strongly encourage anyone in the area to give it a shot and bring a group to dine in. The only negative I'd say is that the price can be a little over the top for some of the meal items, however, given the ambiance, the service, the quality and the experiences I've had there, it's a fair price. Bravo

From cooking to salad dressings, Greek olive oil made from lemon, basil, and oregano is their liquid gold. Located on a busy Boulevard in the heart of Hasbrouck Heights, I finally got the opportunity to stop in at this BYOB family-owned/operated establishment. Upon entering for lunch after 4 years, Sofia's Mediterranean Grill, named after the owner's mom, I was greeted by the staff. I got a booth, immediately knowing how they get crowded. The inside evoked a cozy and warm vibe with Greek music playing throughout. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting. Their menu features an array of traditional Mediterranean dishes, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, meats from the grill, seafood cooked various ways, and entrees cooked from the oven. I decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. The food was authentic, fresh using the finest ingredients, delicious, and prepared simply, which is exactly what I was looking for. The portion was healthy. The service is always friendly and welcoming. I got to connect with the owner, Nick, a fellow Astorian, to catch up about the old neighborhood. The price was reasonable. If one's craving the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean, then look no further. One doesn't need to book a flight to Greece to enjoy authentic meals.

We ordered a whole range of things including chicken kebab, chicken gyro, tahini cauliflower,…read morelabneh, and hummus. Everything was delicious, but I'll leave the food writing to the Yelpers with more sophisticated palates than I. (Actually, I take that back--the fresh-baked pita was amazing and I would eat it with/for every meal if I could.) The real reason I wanted to leave a review the service, which went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that Al Basha takeout has a wonderfully efficient order-number-based system for managing the hundreds of orders they get on a daily basis. But if, say, the person who placed the order sent you to pick up the food with the wrong order number, you're going to struggle, and that's not the restaurant's fault. With that prelude and without getting into the details, we'll just say there was a user error issue with my order that led to a mix-up and a very late pick-up. Everyone from the Al Basha staff with whom I interacted could not have handled it any better. They were very apologetic, not because they did anything wrong (to be clear, they didn't), but because they were disappointed our meal hadn't gone well and wanted to fix that. The top priority of the manager with whom I dealt was making sure that my wife--it was Mothers' Day--got the best meal possible, and made sure to send me home with fresh bread and a treat for the moms. It was true hospitality, and greatly appreciated. TLDR version: great food, excellent service, out-of-this-world pita, and make darned sure you have the right order number.

The chicken kebab was dry and the shawarma was a bit too sour for my liking (not sure if they squeezed lemon on it or something). The kofta was okay but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon, was a major let down. My server didn't ask how we'd like it cooked, which is medium rare for my family. It came back well done. He said everyone usually prefers it to be well done, but I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made and preference should always be asked, especially with steak. We asked for it to be swapped, and it still came back well done. When we let them know again, they brought it back a little on the rare side, which is fine for my family, but had it been another family, not so sure. I'm sure they have hundreds of orders for the char grilled meets, so I'm a little confused on why the technique has not already been established My favorite dish had to be the makanik - which is pan seared lamb sausages finished with sweet and tangy pomegranate molasses. I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey flavor but these sausages didn't have that. I didn't taste much of the pomegranate molasses. The arugula & beet salad would've been good if the pomegranate molasses vinaigrette was less sweet. The stuffed grape leaves were also a bit too sour. The lemon was just taking over the entire flavor profile. I didn't really taste the tomato or parsley. The falafel platter was good but nothing different than other falafels that I've had. The mint lemonade was so refreshing. Almost everyone in the restaurant had one and I understand why. The mint is not overpowering I had high expectations because I've seen this place on instagram but I'm afraid they were not met. Service was good, but the food definitely needs some work. There's valet parking, which i recommend because it's hard to find street parking

Upon arrival at a laid-back, clean, and casual vibe before the lunch crowd, I placed an order of falafel and Greek salad with the friendly chef/owner, Sami, and exchanged a few words. Their menu offers a wide range with options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free. The falafel was crispy, not dry, well-seasoned, and served hot with sides of tahini and spicy sauce. The portions were huge and very tasty. The Greek salad was made to order without onions and green peppers. It was large enough for a second meal. The quality and care the kitchen puts into each dish truly set them apart, and it's authentic. The service was quick and accommodating. The price was reasonable, and one is getting every penny's worth, which I can continue to recommend.

As I entered the restaurant, I was impressed with the attractive interior and even more so impressed with their viral coffee bar. With so many flavors to choose ranging from pistachio to coconut cloud, I decided to choose the strawberry matcha latte (and it was hard to make a decision). When server Ana placed this iced beverage in front of me, it was love at first sip. The appearance alone instantly caught my eye. Its red, white, and green colors are a perfect fit on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, I had to stir this drink for maximum flavor which altered the appearance; thankfully, I took the photo shot before I started stirring. The ice cubes in this drink made it difficult to stir with the plastic straw, but I was offered a spoon. Although I felt there was a tad bit too much ice in this drink, the combination of strawberry puree, milk, and premium matcha was very refreshing. For an up charge, I added strawberry whipped foam to enhance the flavor even more. When I next return to explore their other signature lattes, I will remember to request less ice which will simply the stirring. #yasmeenmediterranean #yasmeencresskill #strawberrymatchalatte

The place had a decent amount of customers for a weekday. We sat in the front dining area where there was a large TV, good for watching the game (in our case, the world cup). The place was clean and server was friendly. We ordered 3 lunch specials that included the fattoush (house salad), mouhamarra, labneh, shish tawook (grilled chicken with rice pilaf), kufta kebab, and mint lemonade. Honestly for food, my average rating for everything would be closer to 3.5/5. The pita bread that came with the table was room temp and served in a plastic bag. I would have liked it to be at least warmed up a little before being brought out. The sides and dips were average. They lacked flavor and depth in my opinion- the labneh was simply plain, sour yogurt without any other flavor. The mouhamarrah was also average, it was a bit spicy and that was about it. Standouts from our table that were very well executed were the lentil soup, shish tawook, and yasmeen fries. The lentil soup came out steaming hot, and was very nicely seasoned. I liked that it came with crispy pieces to add texture. The shish tawook surprised me as it didnt look super special, but it was actually very good! The chicken was juicy, fell apart easily, and had that nice grill flavor. It went well with the rice and vegetables. The yasmeen fries were hot and crispy, the garlic seasoning was a very nice touch. I would've liked if my mint lemonade had more mint flavor in it but perhaps that was my bad for not ordering the slush version. The portions were pretty generous, 19.95 is a fair price for all the food we received. Overall, we had a nice experience and am glad we got to try the place out.
