Yes, I admit, I am very high maintenance. Don't worry, my husband knew this before he proposed. But lucky for me, he loves a good spa just as much as I do (and he is every bit a man for it! ha). We've been to many spas together all over the world and our absolute favorite was a boutique spa resort in The Blue Mountains of Australia. The only reason this is relevant is because seriously, it's hard to top a whole weekend of the spa life in a beautiful, foreign country. So when I give this place 5 stars, you better believe I L-O-V-E-D it! Maona Lani Spa, lives up to its name - HEAVENLY....ahhhh. I've visited this spa twice, once with a girlfriend and once with my husband. When I went with my girlfriend, it was for my birthday and she made the reservations and booked a Heavenly Massage us both. I like my massages deep and with a lot of pressure, gentle strokes and "soothing touch" just doesn't do it for me. So when my therapist asked about my preferences and "problem areas" prior to the massage, she suggested that I would probably like a deep tissue instead. Apparently the Heavenly Massage is like a dance routine, intended to be done the exact same way for each client. So I agreed to have the deep tissue instead which was consequently $20 more. My massage therapist was one of the best I ever had, and she really seemed to understand the way muscles and joints operate because she would adjust my arms and legs in a way that allowed her to get to the muscle at the EXACT spot that was hurting. You know when they just "hit the spot"! At the end of my massage she asked if I was there to celebrate anything special, and I told her I was there for my bday. She then wished me a happy birthday and told me that she would not charge for the upgrade! The second time I went with my hubby, we had our massages in the couples' suite. It was gorgeous and even had a private hot tub. I was able to request the same therapist that I had the first time I went for my birthday. I forgot her name, so it's a good thing they were able to look it up in their system. The relaxation lounge is very clean, sophisticated and they have an organic tea bar, lemon ice cold water and apples and oranges available to guests. The area looks right out to the beach and reminds me of a Pottery Barn magazine. The sauna and the hot tub also looks right out to the beach. The steam room is wonderful, with the eucalyptus oil and ice cold towels for your face. The thing that sets this place apart is that EVERY SINGLE person that passes you, greets you and gives you a warm smile. I am not even kidding. Makes me feel like a queen, and what high maintenance girl wouldn't want that?! read more

I've had massages here on past trips and most recently a pedicure after long work days which were all fantastic - pedicure with Maria. She was so nice and great at her skill. I had the 50 minute pedicure but felt like it was well worth it and she made my feet feel look so pretty! I work long days on Oahu traveling from LA and this is just the right thing to energize me for another busy workday. The next day I went back to purchase some skincare products and she recognized me and hugged me. She even spent time helping me in my selections buying the full Skinceuticals line for my particular needs as I get very dry patchy skin due to my frequent business trips. Maria does facials as well so when I return, I'll be sure to book one with her. She had recommended a micro-exfoliating scrub that I used and it cleared my dry skin issue right away! Tried to book a reservation online and the automated system indicated that the request was submitted and that I should have confirmation within 48 hours. No one contacted me during this period. After calling to confirm, the person on the phone (who spoke garbled English) told me they would call back. After they called back, she said the time was not available. I just wasted two days on these fools and now I have to scramble to fill the appointment. If you book with them, plan to have a backup. read more

So I decided to return here for a girls spa day after noticing that many of the yelp reviews have improved dramatically since my initial visit. Boy, I am glad I did. First of all, this place has really catered to Kama'aina! Their kama'aina membership (for $20), which is good for 2 years, gives you a 30% discount on spa services and 15% discount on salon services! What a freaking deal! The spa facilities have had a "face lift" and everything seems fresher and newer than before. The jacuzzi and the lounge are lovely and the overlooking view of waikiki beach is just gorgeous. My deep tissue massage was divine and I received the BEST pedicure i've ever had. What's more relaxing than basking in the sun on a tropical island such as Oahu? Having a spa that enhances the tropical rest and relaxation visitors like me seek when coming to the island... successfully. I never understood in all my visits to Oahu why there wasn't a decent spa around anywhere. All the ones I have visited that line the beaches of Waikiki have been makeshift hotel rooms turned spa suites gone incredibly wrong when experienced with hotel employees masquerading as masseurs giving you a $110 rubdown. Yah, no thanks. Until now. My thoughtful girlfriends/bridesmaids treated me to Moana Lani on our last day of bachelorette-ing in Oahu. Discreetly located in the ultraclassy Westin Moana Surfrider, the Moana Lani already got points with their simple yet classic decor utilizing calming white and sky blue colors for their walls w/natural Hawaiian wood flooring. And although the space isn't too large, every inch was planned out just right leaving you with an exhilarating view of the beach regardless if you're in the jacuzzi or about to take a nap in the relaxation room. A few more points to Moana Lani for its exceptional cleanliness in again a very discreet manner. Not once can I recall bumping into an employee but was very surprised when a towel was replaced on the shelf or a shower was cleaned out promptly after client use, delightful! My fifth star goes to my masseur who whisked me away for 50 minutes of Heavenly massage bliss and kept me in that sweet purgatory between relaxation and sleep so I could enjoy every minute of their pointedly named Heavenly service! Well done Moana Lani Spa, well done Westin Moana Surfrider, well done to my gf/bridesmaids for ending our week on such a relaxing note. Now I can really take on the 5 hour flight back to the mainland. read more

Simply the best! Friendly staff great service! I went to the Moana Lani Spa for the Hydra facial. I was skeptical when I first heard about the Hydra facial, a treatment that promises clearer, more hydrated, younger-looking skin immediately. But hey who doesn't love a spa day especially when it's a gift so I thought, "Why not?" let's see if the Hydra facial lives up to the hype. Immediately after the treatment, I could see a difference, my skin was clean and glowing. It's been 4 days since my treatment and my skin still feels like I just did the facial. I'm noticing that my skin looks brighter and feels softer. The Hydra Facial definitely lives up to the hype. I've been back to the Moana Lani spa 3 times after that and I will never go anywhere else. The staff is warm and welcoming from the second you walk in until the second you walk out (which is definitely the most important), the facility is beautiful, very clean and the spa services are top notch. Wonderful experience once again at moanalani spa! With the kamaaina discount this spa is definitely worth the drive into Waikiki, so many amenities spa, showers, dry and wet sauna and a beautiful lounge overlooking the ocean so you have great ambient noise the waves make that adds to the relaxation. My therapist was Ivan he was great!! I will be requesting him in the future. I got the deep tissue and he had wonderful pressure and really worked out my upper back and neck area as I requested! He added in some shiatsu and pressure point techniques that made for an amazing experience! Love love love this place, they really do a great job taking care of the kamaaina. read more

The women's side used to be the men's side so the signage is off but still the quality is great. Amenities include sauna, steam room, showers, small jacuzzi, women's lounge where you lay on ergonomic seats under fans overlooking the ocean, women's entertainment room (where they were playing MMA boxing for some reason), fruits, tea, nuts, and a small changing room. The massage quality is outstanding. I recommend Annalet. She was a perfectionist. For the same price of 75-minutes deep tissue, you can do a whole package of 25-minutes each of massage, facial (where they put 25 things on your face with the softest hands), reflexology, and scalp. Valet parking is fully validated by the spa. The spa is located upstairs from the lobby. Make sure to bring your Hawaii ID for kamaaina discount. read more

Okay! Finally! A place that lives up to my expectations. I can't believe I found it. This is the only day spa in all of Honolulu that has it all as a spa should have. You would think that there would be more day spas that have amenities but there aren't. This is the only place I found other than Mandara which was just below OK. This place is gorgeous, clean, & has a breath taking view of the ocean. Its airy and bright totally different than your regular spa. I enjoyed my dry sauna, steam room, & jacuzzi before my awesome deep tissue massage. Afterwards I went to the relaxation lounge and had a cup of tea and read a magazine before getting ready to go. My husband and I came here beginning of October for our honeymoon. The first night we were there we wanted to get massages, so we called that day and got an evening appointment. I really had no complaints, staff was friendly, relaxing atmosphere, and great massage. My husband and I both agreed it was the best massages we ever had! I got the hot stone massage (my first time) and he got a sports massage. I had Ellen and he had Sandy. Well Ellen, you really set the standard high after getting the best massage from you! A week later while we were on Maui we got massages at the Grand Wailea, which we thought would have been the best massage and we were really disappointed. It's very zen and they don't rush you through the process. I paid $155 + $25 for the deep tissue massage and heavenly feet add on. With the tip (automatically added on) the bill was over $200. My therapist was good and I was able to get an appointment relatively quick and near the time i had hoped. The "salt ritual" prior to treatment was kind of nice but I can see how some people might feel a little awkward holding a small bowl of salt prior to. The only thing that took away a star was my locker kept getting stuck and the hot tub had really gross film of dirt in the bubbles that were rising. I ran the opposite way. read more

Had the 80 min lomi lomi massage. Jessica was amazing, she listens to my request, applies the perfect pressure and before you know it, I fell asleep....good location and amenities. This place does not dissapoint! The classic facial included a light body massage before the facial portion began at no extra charge and the facialist, Kristen? (blonde haired girl), had incredible technique and was intuitive about the customized treatment she selected for my skin type (she put some sort of cooling gel around my eyes ... the other three friends who went with all had different treatments) The friend who also had Kristen shortly after my session agreed that it was the best facial she'd ever recieved. There's also something about the environment - every room has an ocean view and large open windows ... you don't get that claustrophobic feeling that some other spas give. Its warm and sunny and incredibly serene. The facilities are clean and absolutely gorgeous, the staff is genuinely caring and focused on your experience there. I can't wait to go back! read more

I chose the Moana Lani Spa based on the location, which has a coveted spot directly on Waikiki beach. The views alone make it the best spa in Waikiki, but the adept masseuse and esthetician I was assigned take this spa to the next level of excellency. When I checked in for my massage and facial, I immediately noticed the smell of tranquility in the air as I was greeted with a friendly smile from the receptionist. After a speedy check in, I was given a brief tour of the facility and assigned a locker. I was told to dress in the plush white robe that was given to me and wait in a relaxing room with breathtaking views five minutes prior to my first treatment. The room is adorned with comfortable furniture and light refreshments to enhance the overall experience. The spa is also equipped with a eucalyptus scented steam room (perfect for recovery after a long night on the Waikiki strip), a jacuzzi, and a cedar sauna--all overlooking the azure Hawaiian water. There is also a gym to meet your fitness needs. I was promptly greeted by my esthetician, Denise, who asked me if I had any concerns about my skin. Other than that pesky aging thing, I mentioned that I had some slight hyper pigmentation. From there she knew exactly what to do; no more small talk. Her firm, but gentle hands did all the talking throughout my hour long treatment as tranquil music filled my ears. She first applied aromatherapeutic oils to my temples and décolletage with a light massage, then applied each layer of treatment with her soft, dextrous fingertips. Next, I received a wonderful scalp and hand massage. Near the end, there was a warm, fresh smelling towel applied over my face, at which point I decided that it was the best facial I had ever received. I have never felt so relaxed or pampered in my life. When my facial was complete, I was taken to a room with delightful vibrating massage chairs to further relax as I waited for my massage. Joanne welcomed me back to the massage room with a genuine smile and an easy going demeanor. She asked me what pressure that I preferred, and I said medium to heavy. She worked my tight and tired muscles as I fell in and out of a light sleep. It was relaxing enough to do that, yet firm enough to keep me conscious and on the cusp of total relaxation. The entire massage was fluid, without any interruption or pause. At the end, she stretched out my leg muscles to better loosen them. At that point, I was feeling absolutely divine. I was taken back to the main room to enjoy the spa for the rest of the day (and night if I wanted to). After a week, my skin still looks pore-less with a healthy glow. My hyper pigmentation has diminished a great deal as well. My tired muscles appreciated the papering too, as I still feel the benefits of Joanne's skilled hands. I highly recommend Moana Lani Spa as a gift to yourself or a loved one. It is worth every dollar to feel this good. read more

Was in desperate need of haircut and color. I read great review of the stylist at Moana Lani, Jan, so I called booked an appointment on the same day. Jan was out. Eva was in. I knew that a high-end hotel like the Westin would offer good service, and in Eva, my expectations were exceeded. This may sound hyperbolic, but it's not: Eva could work anywhere, she is a complete and total pro. She is vastly experienced and exceedingly smart and funny -- a pleasure to spend two hours with! In addition to being a top-notch colorist, stylist and cutter, she teaches for Paul Mitchell and could work anywhere for that company, but prefers her life in native Honolulu. I can not recommend her more highly. I would fly back here every six weeks for cut and color ... if I didn't live in NY. She took control yet completely listened to me about my style preferences. My friend and I went early before out appointments and worked out in the gym, showed off under the rain shower and then hit the steam room and jacuzzi before we were wisked away to our ocean front room for our massage. The view is amazing as well as the massage. Would be 5 stars but I have to take off at least 1 because it was little distracting since it was loud on the beach. They gave us the room free because it was so noisy due to some event. They should have just avoided booking us in that room. Overall though the massage was so good that I would go again and just make sure I didn't get that room. read more

Of course a hawaii trip is never complete without a spa treatment. They opened at 8 am. I was there at 8. My appointment is for 9am.I had the place to myself. I got into my robe and slippers and put my things in the locker. I fixed myself a cup of raspberry tea, grabbed a magazine and lounged in silence. It was still early enough in the day that there were hardly any beach goers at that time...all I heard was ocean. cool! I got the Lomi lomi 80 minute massage which was so good, it left me in a daze when it was over. Kenji was wonderful! After my masage, I rinsed off, got in the jacuzzi and then the sauna...so relaxing...took my extra long shower and met my husband for lunch to the North Shore. It was already 1130 am!! wowza! Such a beautiful space. If you want to treat yourself, or give what will definitely be a much appreciated gift, this is the place. I went for a pedicure and made sure to get there early to make use of the spa facilities before and after. The jacuzzi looks out over the banyan tree courtyard bar and Waikiki beach. Although this is a stunning view on a beautiful day, it was also the perfect activity during the recent bout of rainy weather. There is a lounge, also overlooking the beach, where you can relax and enjoy a cup of tea (be sure to bring something to read so you can stay a while!). It isn't advertised in the spa, but you can order from the banyan tree bar while you are there, lunch, cocktails, etc, just ask one of the (very helpful) spa attendants. The pedicure was probably the most expensive one I have ever had, but it was definitely a case of getting what you pay for, it was excellent. I can't wait to go back! read more

My experience was mind blowing I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first child. Me and husband were planning for a holiday as I am being in my second trimester nothing worked also I still have nausea and vomiting. So we decided spa finally!! I browsed the website and decided to do mommy to be massage and a deep tissue for my husband in a couple's suite and I decided to get a facial. I have to say it was the best massage, I forgot the name of my masseur she was awesome applied the right amount of pressure and checked with me if i am doing ok? The best part of this massage was you can lie on your tummy they keep a special kind of pillow to support it can tell they are professionals. She checked with me on which part is bothering the most. The way she massaged my feet God bless her.My husband told me he had a great massage. My facial was good too.The relaxing lounge, the ambiance every thing was too good. I LOVED this spa. My girlfriends and I went for part of my bachelorette trip and it was my favorite part of the entire week! This spa overlooks the beach and you can lounge and sleep listening to the calmness of the waves and breeze of the ocean. The private suites were nice and big, they even chilled our champagne and provided glassware. Absolute A+ for service and atmosphere. The only draw back is that you can't walk around naked given the huge Windows that overlook the beach, since they were afraid of people looking up and seeing naked people in the spa? The service here is one of the best on the island. I needed to have my hair cut and a color touch up and although I felt it was a little pricey, I finally decided to splurge and treat myself and come here. So glad I did!! Definitely worth it! The entire staff was courteous and very welcoming, which I don't see at a lot of other places. And my stylist Jan did an amazing job!
