Cheapest gas in town. Mini-mart is decent, in the bathroom is large and relatively clean. There's even a little car wash.

Quality gas, much less costly than the other stations in town, and same price cash or credit.

When you gotta go, you gotta go I guess... But in fairness to the owners and employees, this is a gas station/convenience store... Not a public restroom facility. In sleepy little Independence, I have to imagine this place relies on mostly weary travelers stopping in for gasoline, a couple of sodas, a bag of snacks to make a living. Whether there is a sign or not, it's kind of courteous to scrape under the seats for a little bit of change, and buy a pack of gum or a Coke or something. Wish the proprietor a very nice rest of the day, kind of thing. As far as the guy behind the counter being rude, I sure cannot condone that either. You may have heard the expression, "the customer is always right"?... Well that ain't true, but the customer is still and always the customer. As a business owner, if you smile and nod at that guy that just went in and use $.50 with the toilet paper and paper towels, and did not buy anything... This time... They're probably more likely to stop in here on the downhill trip and buy something. Act like a troll to a potential future customer? They will not ever be one. Just saying... Anyway, we stopped here on the way home from Lake Crowley, to top off the tank on a very busy southbound 395 post-July 4 weekend drive. We bought a couple of bottles of soda, and a pack of jerky. No more expensive than just about any other gas station I've been to. My kids used the heck out of the bathroom, too. The fellow behind the counter was not saccharine sweet or anything, but cordial. Funny thing about the small-town business folk: they respond awfully well to common courtesy with a dash of kindness. Come to think of it, most people do. I also appreciated the relatively large parking lot and plenty of room to turn around with a small trailer. Some of the gas stations in towns up and down the 395 don'tfeature as much space. So that's a plus.

Don't go here to get gas ever!!! 2/21/20 10:15 pm…read moreI've never been to a gas station where I've had such issues. I entered my Vons number to get my discount per gallon as I always do, and then put my card in and entered the area code. Then I clicked the gas I wanted and placed the nozzle into the car only for the screen to display the message "replace nozzle and see cashier". What does that even mean? I went in and asked the guy and he had no idea what I was talking about. He came out and canceled my transaction. He "took care of it" I filled my car and he told me to come in and pay. So I did only for him to tell me my card has been declined. I just used it a couple of hours prior. So now I'm mad and confused. The other person in the car paid for the gas and realized we never got the Vons discount! That irritates me because I told the guy about the Vons discount and he said "he put it in". Which now talking to the other person about how much she paid we didn't get it. I called customer service regarding my card and it was cancelled. I'm not sure what happened but I am confused. I've driven this highway hundreds of times and I've never had that issue before. I'm not happy that this happened and it all comes down to this gas station for the "replace nozzle see cashier" message on the display. That's were it all went down. The guy at the front was hard to understand and couldn't discuss much with him which also complicated things. Never stopping at this chevron again.

I had one experience with a very rude cashier where she angrily scanned my items and just stood there. Didn't greet me, didn't acknowledge me, and didn't even tell me how much my total was. Two trips in two days and both cashiers were about as friendly as a pet rock. Last night's guy had the shakes. Today's lady only said "would you like your receipt." The self-bagging idea is good. At least you can pack your items as you want. But. Maybe. If there was a courtesy clerk who would do it for you. Elderly couple in front of me did their own cart. Meanwhile, three associates (maybe even a manager) were living their best life near the courtesy desk. During rush hour, staff should be ready to help. Other reviews say every check stand is open. Today. Maybe 50%. Self checkout is usually a good bet, but when the line is turned and backed to past the ice cream aisle, you know it's slow going. At least the store does a great job of living up to "mountain time."

When we asked them, they pointed us to the casino next door. The Shell down the road sells lottery. I'm not entirely sure why we stopped here because we went to the Shell last time but oh well. My friend said the bathroom didn't smell bad but I thought it smelt slightly foul. There was soap and warm water and paper towels. The selection of items and food seemed to be rather good. They had batteries and lighters which impressed me. The microwave was also impressive to see in such a random mart. We got Reese's pieces and melon rings for $5.98 which doesn't seem too bad. There were a few things out of order on the hot drinks machine but I wasn't in the mood for any hot drinks so it didn't matter to me. The cashier wasn't enthusiastic or especially nice in any way. She seemed like she was just there to do the bare minimum.

First off, nothing else is cheaper. Even more so if you keep your plastic and go green. As in cash. Maybe it's because I always stop here on my way back to LA and it's downhill to a certain degree...or...there is some serious tribal mojo in this blend. I can't prove it. It's just that the mileage I get is otherworldly. I get back in town and have, like, a half a tank left. Now, I asked the attendant who distributes the gas thinking maybe it's processing involved some sort of Shamanic ceremony. He said he didn't remember. Right. That's the go to answer to shake me off the trail. But I know better than that. I'm certain it has mystical origins. Believe what you want. Wink, wink.
