I absolutely would recommend the June Lake General store. You will find so many things ranging from batteries, to beer salt, and everything in between. Think of it as a grocery store, hardware, camping, souvenir shop, liquor store, and electronic accessories store all in one. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and most importantly, the prices are very reasonable for being a small business in a small town. I always go here and will continue to do so when I'm camping in the area. read more

First time I walked around June Lake and first time I walked in this general store... immediately got taken back in time to the original "Walmart", "ACE", store of the 40's, 50's, and 60's... it was the hugest old general store I've ever been too... it was fantastic... and they haven't change a thing... it was Hasegawa's General Store on Maui and all the mom and pop general stores in little towns across the nation that you would go to get just what you needed... I'm so glad the owners didn't try to "modernize" it... and make it something it isn't... to me, it was a historical landmark of what my grandpa's drug store might have looked like... that was really fun... There was a time--long before WiFi, gluten-free gummies, and bear-proof coolers--when the highlight of my day was walking into the June Lake General Store, hand in hand with my dad, and carefully selecting a single piece of candy for the day's adventure. He'd point out his favorites (always the classics), and I'd pretend to consider them before going rogue with something neon. We'd step outside, sugar in hand, and the whole mountain was ours. Now, my dad's too frail to make the trip. The altitude's too high, the terrain too rough. But I return with my kids, and the ritual continues. The store hasn't changed much--and that's exactly the point. Still stocked with everything a mountain life might demand: granola for hikes, fresh fruit for the road, ice-pops to bribe tired children, chips for the beach, and, yes, a replacement cartridge for a leaky faucet in the cabin. It smells of pine, cardboard, and quiet joy. The staff greet you like they've known you for decades--maybe they have. The aisles are tight but full of possibilities. It's more than a store. It's a tiny museum of personal history. And if you're lucky, maybe your kids will remember it the way I do. read more

One stop shop! You gotta love that small town feel where there's that one general store guaranteed to sell just about anything and everything you need from fruits, meats, to hardware. Stopped in a few times to get additional goods for the week stay. The prices are much more than a regular supermarket, but it's expected. They have an ice box just outside the store, always well stocked to keep your fresh caught fresh and cool you off in the summertime. Staff are pretty nice here and been pretty helpful thus far. Wow, was this disappointing. As always, the market itself is charming and I've always liked going inside. Sure, it's expensive, but the ambiance makes it all worth it. What stunned me was the horribly nasty girl who was working the front register. She was borderline hateful to me and my son. I was flabbergasted that any shop owner would hire someone who obviously hates their job to this extent. Talk about a rude, rude woman. I felt like I was stuck in some bad movie where I was playing opposite a stereotypical millennial who detests their job. An old general store is correct! From gear to produce to clothes to SPF they have it all! We bought some super cute lake hats, random I know, 100% cotton for ten bucks. We wanted to look lake cute. We needed bananas so we ran a few times when we were staying at June Lake Lodge (a few blocks down) and it's very easy to walk around town to get here. The first few days (especially the first) we suggest walking very slowly around town :) why? at 8,000 feet and had just came from the Bay Area then into Yosemite the altitude can really mess with you. Grab some produce and some extra bottles of water, they even have a five gallon jug on the back shelving, and get ready to explore the area and Yosemite. Went to this store to purchase some items for our trip. We walked here so I only brought a $100 bill since I was walking with my twin toddlers. The checker started checking us out and he finished and the total was $58 and change. So realizing I had enough money, I asked for a bottle from behind the counter for New Year's Eve. Didn't want to check out and not have enough since I only had the $100 on me. The checker had some trouble scanning the vodka but then I noticed the register suddenly said $76 and change so then he continued to try to ring the vodka and noticing that the amount changed I was like wait, I think it already scanned. He assured me it didn't. So he finally got the vodka to scan and now the total said $96. I obviously asked again, are you sure the vodka is not on there twice? They assured me it wasn't so I handed over the $100 and paid. I asked for the receipt and stepped outside. Looked at the receipt and noticed I was quadruple charged for one item. I went back in for a refund and got it. Got back to our hotel and realized there were even more items I was triple charged for. I was having trouble going back and forth of course trying to deal with my twin toddlers. Anyways... long story short be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when you go here and ALWAYS look at your receipt. This little store has everything you'll need while away on the backroads. From food to clothing to camping supplies and ICE CREAM treats you'll be able to get the necessities. We stopped by this afternoon and found exactly what we need and then some ice cream sandwiches that hit the spot after a morning of hiking and exploring. An incredibly quaint little shop that had a wonderful supply of most everything you would need. I was surprised that the prices were even less than my own hometown CVS. Seriously the worst customer service! Was shunned out of the store for NO MASK. When explaining my child is DEAF and the law states I'm exempt because communicating with her is based on Sign Lauguage. When leaving then someone outside said we should just go back to LA! You don't have to starve in the wilderness. This little store does very well for its remoteness. Tucked back up into the June Lake Loop, it is one of the only sources for provisions, outside of traveling down to Mammoth. There's a good supply of food: cereal, chips, canned soup and veggies, cheese and meat. They have a good array of camping supplies and some novelty items: postcards, t-shirts, etc. As far as fresh foods go, they only have some bagged salads, bananas, onions and garlic. For a small general store, they were surprisingly well-equipped with everything we were looking for dinner. Prices were pretty high, but that's to be expected when importing up into the mountains. Also I found some nice old postcards from the 70s that they were getting rid of - only 10 cents a piece. read more

I was just out for a drive and a hike to see the fall colors, and wasn't really planning on stopping in this town. But the pictures of the fresh fruit in this market made me stop here to check it out! It was really surprising to find some good natural foods out here - it's been very difficult to try to eat healthy out here on the road. They seem to have everything here, they're stocked with snacks and everything you probably need. Also it's very fisherman friendly - they've got lots of supplies and live worms in the refrigerator. A little pricier than normal because of its remote location, but I'm happy to support this town over a town like Lee Vining or some other speed trap-based economy. One thing I noticed that could be improved on was the drink selection, which I wish was more natural and healthy. Most of the drinks were beers or sugary drinks. There were some healthier selections strangely hidden in a small refrigerator in the back, to the left of all the beers. Please stock the 64oz Pure Leaf teas, and make them easier to find! The lady working the cash register was a super friendly and mentioned that surprisingly, only a few people had taken advantage of the 10% off Yelp discount. She also mentioned that the fresh fruits and vegetables are on their way out for the season - I guess it's just too expensive to get them there during the winter months. The Bad: It's pretty pricey (due to its resort location), and they have a $5 min if you want to use your debit card (This is the reason I don't go there unless absolutely necessary. The new owner, Luis, and his family have really upgraded the customer experience at June Lake General Store. For years, going in there was uncomfortable due to rude and indifferent employees, horribly over-priced items, and a "take it or leave it" attitude. As the new owner, Luis has really stepped up. The store looks amazing, the prices are good for a small mountain town store, the selections are good, and the customer service is always excellent. The hardware selection is quite good for a little store! Anything we've needed for our June Lake house has always been available and reasonably priced. When you treat people well, they will return and choose to spend a little extra instead of driving into Lee Vining, Mammoth, or Reno. read more
