Is it convenient to have a Vons in a ski town? Yes. Is it nice to have nice people working there? I wouldn't know. Two trips in two days and both cashiers were about as friendly as a pet rock. Last night's guy had the shakes. Today's lady only said "would you like your receipt." The self-bagging idea is good. At least you can pack your items as you want. But. Maybe. If there was a courtesy clerk who would do it for you. Elderly couple in front of me did their own cart. Meanwhile, three associates (maybe even a manager) were living their best life near the courtesy desk. During rush hour, staff should be ready to help. Other reviews say every check stand is open. Today. Maybe 50%. Self checkout is usually a good bet, but when the line is turned and backed to past the ice cream aisle, you know it's slow going. At least the store does a great job of living up to "mountain time." read more

What a disappointment to come to this store while visiting the area! The meat department is foul, selling old meat. Some meat to the point of gas release and slime? This is a public safety risk. This is no longer meat that should be sold, and should be in the garbage. Then what is the deal with no cases of water? Are cases of water not drank in this town? We needed some fruit, and vegetables. We were able to scrape up some produce. Was not the easiest because things were not getting replenished. Many holes on the shelves. We saw employees having a good time bs'ing. No manager around, Supervisor....not for me...for the employees who are messing around! Nice to have a chain grocery store in a ski town. Many just have the uber expensive grocery shops which is great to support a local but you have to want to spend $$$ just to eat basics. Use the app to get better deals for sure. Large, spacious and well-stocked. read more

The shelves were too empty and they were understaffed...We came here to buy milk, orange juice, honey and egg. We were able to find what we came for. They only had two brands for eggs and ive never tried them before. The store was ok but not crsytal clean. I thought all of my shopping experience here has been uneventful. They usually have what I am looking for. Parking can be an issue if there's been a big snow storm, but there's ample parking in this center. I like the amount of self check out kiosks available here to keep the line moving. read more

On 01/19/2026 at approximately 5pm, I visited the Mammoth Lakes Vons store and approached the self-checkout attendant to ask for assistance with returning grocery items. The items were being returned because the Airbnb we were staying in did not have clean or usable dishware, making the food unusable despite attempts to clean the dishes. While standing in the self-checkout area, we were not acknowledged despite being positioned directly in front of the attendant and waiting briefly for assistance. I understand the self-checkout area was busy and required monitoring; however, customers entering the area should be acknowledged or directed when possible. When assistance was requested, the self-checkout attendant stated that produce items could not be returned, which was later confirmed to be incorrect. I was also told she could not assist because the store was busy. When I asked if a supervisor or manager was available to help resolve the issue, no direction or escalation option was provided. As a result, I waited in another checkout line and was assisted by the cashier, Bianca. Bianca confirmed with her manager that the return was allowed and processed it without issue. She was courteous, empathetic, and took the time to provide clear assistance, helping resolve a situation that had not been addressed earlier. Her professionalism and willingness to help stood in clear contrast and were greatly appreciated. I am providing this feedback to highlight the lack of guidance and escalation support during the initial interaction, as well as to recognize effective customer service when it was provided. read more

Absolute mad house this place yesterday. I believe it is opening weekend for the ski resort so I guess you can't blame the store. Be prepared to spend extra on everything and be around a bunch of snobby people. The workers themselves were nice and friendly. read more

Vons in Mammoth Lakes is our reliable 24/7 grocery spot--great selection, fresh produce, and convenient for mountain life. This time, the bakery experience was frustrating at first: I called for over a week to order a custom cake, and no one ever answered the phone. I even tried again Monday morning on my drive up, still nothing. Finally got through during bakery hours to Jose Hernandez, a manager/supervisor. He listened carefully, took exact notes on what I wanted, and made sure the cake was beautifully prepared and ready by Tuesday evening--even though I didn't arrive until 5-6 PM and the counter was empty when I got there. The cake turned out perfect, exactly as requested. If it weren't for Jose stepping up and handling everything, I would've had no cake at all. He went way above and beyond--deserves a raise, promotion, or some serious recognition. Great employee! Vons is solid overall, but the bakery phone situation needs improvement. Came in just to pick up a few items. I was surprised no line and thought I'd be able to check out real fast. Well, Joanne, the person that was checking me out was slower than slow. She was distracted, looking everywhere, except focusing on checking me out. She just kept staring at everything. When the receipt came, she asked me if I wanted the receipt. I said yes, and then she ignored me and didn't give me my receipt . Then started talking to somebody and ignoring me. She hadn't even pushed my items to the end so I could pick them up. I had to ask her for my receipt twice and then I had to ask her to push my items down so I could reach for them and leave. When I did that, she became very rude and sarcastic in a very negative way. Is Von's that desperate to hire an incompetent rude person that has no people skills. Again this person's name was Joanne and I highly recommend you stay away from her check stand or Vons why don't you teach your people Customerservice skills? As locals, we don't have options. This Vons has the lowest quality in produce, that's a known fact. But today my daughter was making Mac n cheese. She made the cheese sauce herself and then boiled the Vons Signature brand of pasta shells purchased within the past week. WORMS or some kind of LARVAE popped up in the pan. Disgusting and unacceptable. No one cares in management. Not about the quality & not about customer service. I will be complaining & requesting a refund for all 4 boxes. Seems like this is THE grocery store to hit when staying at Mammoth. Coming from Juniper Springs resort, there was a convenient free shuttle that took us to a stop just a short walk away from Vons. I mean, it does the trick! We mainly wanted breakfast foods, snacks, alcohol, and coffee and checked all our boxes. Wasn't too crowded on a Thursday evening in late March. Be aware that rideshare apps in the area don't really seem to work, so if you're staying at Mammoth and shop at Vons, make sure to have a plan for how you will haul your groceries back. read more

Tonight, April 13tth my husband went to pick up some groceries. The cashier didn't greet him or say anything but he bagged his own groceries, after bagging the groceries the cashier proceeded to throw the receipt at him, rudely. At that point he acknowledged that the cashier was being rude, and then the cashier decided to mock him and spoke with the MANAGER who then called him a "pussy" in front of the rest of the line, after he did her job? One of the worst run stores of all Vons. Clerks were rude and unhelpful. I had to bag my own groceries. (If it was just a few items not an issue but I had $700 of groceries.) She even asked me if I wanted bags with an overflowing cart. She seemed more interested in taking her break than helping me and left in the middle of my purchase. Customer service was really terrible :/ I came in the morning (super empty but July 4th weekend) and bought 2 Red Bulls to hopefully get some cash back since the Well Fargo ATM inside Vons AND the BOA ATM weren't in service. I asked if they offered cash back. Cashier said yes, but she wouldn't be able to give me much. I wanted $30 to pay for base parking at Main Lodge. She said $30 was ok for her to do. Great. Here's where it goes south. I type in my #, and I tap to pay. She looks at me the entire time. I had asked and wanted cash back. She processes the payment and says "by the way, tap processes as credit" Me: really? Dang. Her: yup. -continues to scan the customer behind me- The part that irritates me is that she was SLOW at scanning anyways yet rushed me off her register to help the customer behind me. Couldn't care less that my purchase was due to wanting cashback and it wasn't successful. It seemed like she didn't want to do a "cashback" scenario. She genuinely did not care. I've worked as a cashier in an low-income community and I have never treated customers like this. She knew I wanted cash back but watched me tap and didn't say "hey, make sure you insert your card for cashback". I was so disgusted by this women's service that I refuse to ever shop here again. I know I'm just one customer but wow. If you don't want to provide customer service, perhaps choose a different field? I'm appalled. Why not open self-check out in the mornings? I could've avoided her nasty attitude and lack of customer service AND gotten cash back if self-checkout was open and available for use. read more

If you've been to Mammoth, as we have many times over the past 40 years or more, you know that Von's has the hold on the grocery market. I've never been unhappy about that until this trip. First of all, we bought some shrimp for our cocktail hour at the condo. I sent my husband to get them at the meat counter while I searched for a few other items (we spent a lot of $$$ on our first stop at Von's as our adult kids were on their way to join us). I told him to get 20 shrimp. When I opened the package that night at our condo, I found the butcher had put 30 shrimp in the package which means we paid for 50% more shrimp than we ordered - neat trick if you do that with every customer. A couple of days later, I stopped to get more items for dinner and added some ice cream that was on sale. We had purchased some on our first trip and the sale sign was still posted. I used self checkout on that trip and found I was charged the regular price instead of the posted sale price. If I had not been in a hurry, I would have hunted down the manager. I shop frequently at our local Vons, but now I'm sorry there are not more options in Mammoth. I noticed there is now a discount grocer down the road and, although I've never tried that chain in the past, I will certainly be checking it out the next time we are in Mammoth. read more

One of the few grocery stores in the area, but conveniently located in a plaza with some other useful shops, including a Starbucks, Carls Jr, pizza place, etc. They had everything we needed and were open 24/7 with self-checkout lanes. Just know that prices are a bit higher on most items than more developed areas, due to the remoteness of the location. Also, because of unpredictable weather conditions, they had a huge power outage while we were there, which made shopping a bit difficult in the dark. On our family vacation to Mammoth Lakes, we stopped at Vons for groceries. Vons reminded me of Milam's back home, which is smaller and cozier than the huge supermarkets in the big cities. The place looked clean, the cashier was friendly and everything was organized. The prices were competitive. The only two reasons I didn't give it a 5-star is that the deli was closed prior to the scheduled 9pm closure on Dec 31, 2021 and there were hardly any breads in the bread aisle. STORE this is a big location. Check out their fresh made sushi selection. They even have some kosher items here. This is one popular store considering everybody probably does their grocery shopping here. PARKING lot is big and has other stores and restaurants in the same plaza. Terrible photo cake for a very special occasion! We ordered a cake to celebrate my brother's retirement. I ordered the cake online which allowed me to design the cake with different colored borders, writing and spacing. I ordered the borders to have red and blue because I was going for a patriotic cake since my brother retired from the military. The cake did not have a red border. The cake itself looked like it was two sheet cakes smashed together since you can clearly see a line down the middle. The writing was not spaced out properly so part of the text was written at the very edge of both the top and bottom borders. For being such a special occasion, I was extremely disappointed with what was made. When I called to speak to someone about the cake, no one picked up for hours. I tried both the bakery as well as the main phone line. I even tried to reach someone via email and did not receive a response. Very disappointed in the entire process and the lack of customer service. I just don't understand how anyone could think that that cake was acceptable. read more

This place saved us in so many ways. They have 2 public bathrooms. They have fresh fruit. During our time in Mammoth, we went to this Vons I think twice? It's the place to get your nosh on. I noticed that they had some awesome pre-packed snacks for sale. Since this is an outdoorsy town. But some of these snacks are so good. We purchased a dried green bean with sea salt on it for $4. I wish they sold that in the Bay Area, never seen it before. Yum! Large parking lot, don't think I ever saw it filled up. read more
