With so much potential to be the unique donut shop it aims to be, it just falls flat like under cooked dough. The establishment felt clean but hollow. No life, too little decor and the smallest assortment of donuts. I have gone many times and they NEVER have fruity flavors that mochi is known for and advertised on their website. Maybe 4-6 different kinds that all are caramel or chocolate. The prices are just too high for what you get too. Fun textures but no focus on the Asian flavors that make these creations what they are suppose to be. The service was just atrocious. And I mean BAD!! We were the ONLY people in the lobby with one sole employee that wouldn't even turn around to acknowledge us. Clearly she was working on a large order, however, how long would we have had her backed turned to us unless we spoke up? I will never know. We finally and politely said "excuse me". She only glanced over her shoulder and turned around again. Teenagers. Right? Ugh. So we politely said "we just want 1 donut, can you please help us" With a sigh she turned to face us and just stared. .... We made our order, she got our donut and then just looked at the machine in front of us as if to say with her dead eyes "you better leave me a tip" We didn't. It is so cool the Space Coast, specifically Viera and Melbourne, are getting restaurants that serve more niche foods. Pertaining to this realization, the latest in such is Mochinut Melbourne. Located just east of the Viera/Suntree exit of I-95, Mochinut Melbourne specializes in mochinuts, a hodgepodge impromptu mochi and donut. They also happen to serve boba teas and Korean hot dogs which they shorthand to K-dogs. The aforementioned should interest any foodie patrons on the Space Coast. It should also be noted that Mochinut Melbourne is technically a part of a chain with restaurants located in multiple areas in Central Florida. You'd think Mochinut Melbourne would gleam from their predecessors and this would be a smooth opening right? Wrong! And that seems to be their initial downfall at this moment. For starters, the wait time (when I was there with my friend Paula) was almost two hours. That is quite insane for a line the size I seen which is about ten people, many in groups of families or friends. How can the line be so slow? It is when you get inside you find out why the wait is ridiculously long. The flow of ordering and paying is so bad, no wonder people leave. As shown in my pic of the mochinut counter, there are two areas that seem like a place to order and a place to pay. You know where Paula and I ordered our food? The end of the line at the register? You serious? All this line length in front of the donut counter and they couldn't order-and-go from beginning to end? If they did such, they could get a start on boba teas and K-dogs and have them ready when patrons reach the end of the line where the register is. Just seems inefficient to order and pay at the end of the register with the layout they have. As for the rest of the ambiance, a lot of pink and two parts of the wall seem to have photo opportunities. There are some benches but they were fully occupied along with people standing around waiting for K-dogs to finish cooking and boba teas to finish making. In short: a lot of people were waiting around. Despite the unorganization, you'd think the mochinuts would be worth it, right? Well... yes and no. Firstly, all the mochinuts are technically plain mochinuts with a flavor decored upon them. For example, the blueberry mochinut is the plain mochinut with blueberry flavored icing and some form of blueberry fruit cuttings/pieces mixed into the icing. There are no mochinuts with the flavor baked into the mochinut or any with a flling inside such as Boston cream. Paula and I didn't even bother getting any boba teas or K-dogs because the wait was atrocious. Besides all the flaws, I must say the staff were very pleasant and a pleasure to talk to. It is not their fault they have to follow a procedure and protocol that constantly keeps them struggling to keep up with orders. I really hope the manager steps in and fixes the flow because I am sure they can adjust some things here and there to make the flow of work smoother for the workers as well as patrons ordering food. Ultimately, I am going to have to give Mochinut Melbourne an initial rating of two stars out of five. Since Mochinut Melbourne is technically part of a chain, I would expect more from them. Quick Overview: 4/10 overall experience. There are no dine-in options at this time, pickup only so that does leave for the food to not be as hot when you eat it. Clean establishment. The food does take a while to be prepared, for what is assumed to be a type of fast food it did take over 20 minutes to receive my order. The potato's themselves were cut up French fries which unfortunately had zero flavor. Underneath the fries, the corndog was covered in panko. I was very surprised by the over all lack of flavor with this corndog, it did help to dip in spicy mayo or chili sauce. [Original Corndog]: 4/10. Out of the three I would say this was the best Corndog and unfortunately it was the most plain. It was okay but again lacked a lot of flavor. The most flavorful part was the salty/savory from the hotdog. A sauce does help. [Hot Cheetos Corndog]. 3/10. I didn't get "flaming hot Cheeto" from this corndog, it was not spicy at all. It was very soggy to eat compared to the other corndogs, it was not crispy at all. The overall flavor I would describe as a sour taste, almost like mustard. [MochiDonuts]: - Salted Caramel Donut: 9/10. This was so rich and flavorful, and the donut was very dense and pillowy! So good! However it is very very messy to eat. - Melon Donut: 6/10. The execution of this donut was spot on, however the rating is based on my opinion of taste. Mochinut finally opened in my area. The much anticipated grand opening drew a crowd much bigger than I expected. The wait was long but once we got in the donuts were so enticing. They all looked good, so we got a medium box of 1/2 dozen so we could sample a few flavors. We tried the Chocolate and Caramel churro, chocolate dipped and the cherry funnel. They were all equally delicious in my book. We also ordered the potato Korean hot dog in half cheese half dog. The top part had a gooey cheese stick inside which was yummy and half way down the hot dog. But what makes the dogs special are the toppings. The outer portion is coated in little pieces of Potato. This is not your standard corn dog and the batter that surrounds the inside is different. Once you bite into it. It's fluffy and airy. Can see these being quite addictive. Next we ordered two boba. One coffee flavor and I had the peach/pineapple. The ordering system was quite unique in where you place your own order on a touch screen and as they prepare your items a tv/monitor on the wall alerts you when your items are ready. You also receive a text message while it's announced through a speaker system. This proved quite efficient with the number of people that were there. The only problem we had was the 1 hour wait for our Korean hot dogs after we received our donuts and boba. I am assuming there are a few kinks to work out in this as they make them to order. However the wait for that food item was over the top. They could use some bar top tables to hang out and consume your items or place your donut boxes while you wait for the hot dogs. I would love to give 3.5 stars. The interior is clean, bright, and cute but there are no tables. There are a couple benches but clearly you are meant to order and leave. This is what takes it down to three stars. The employees were nice and cheerful though so that was good. Almost everyone in there seemed to only order mochinuts and boba. Don't get me wrong the mochinuts are good but the corn dogs are so yummy. The hot Cheeto corn dog was a family favorite along with the potato corn dog. The half and half cheese and hot dog was just too cheesy for me but it was delicious and if you love mozzarella sticks this is way better. Food: Doughnuts all taste the same. K-dogs...the cheese only one is best, the hotdog is gross. The Thai tea was just milk with chunky whipped cream on top. Literally removable accordion divider sections off the back half (right in front of the register) of the store. I was so happy to see a Mochinut open in this area! I've been to many locations around the US and always get my raspberry funnel cake mochinut fix when I find one. This location was not bad but not the best. I got a set of three mochi donuts (raspberry funnel cake, Nutella, cookies & cream). I noticed they seemed a bit wet and felt undercooked compared to the others I've had in the past. There was also a really strong oil flavor. Not sure if I received a bad batch? I was a bit disappointed in the taste if I'm being honest since it was not consistent with the other locations. I also got a milk tea which was good... just a bit on the sweeter side. I didn't notice any options to change the sweetness level on the drinks. I think that would be a great option to have if not already implemented. Finally! Finally, we have a mochinut in our area. I no longer need to drive one hour away to Orlando just to get mochi donuts and Korean corn dogs. Since opening we have already been three times. The line is definitely long as this place is much anticipated. I'm sure it's gonna start settling down within the next couple weeks. The donuts are definitely delicious and chewy. So different than normal donuts. I can even say that they are Dessert donuts. Waited in line for 30 minutes outside, then 15 inside. I was so excited to try this place but was not waiting an additional 20 minutes for a corndog, so I got Boba and doughnuts. D-I-S-S-A-P-O-I-N-T-E-D. The texture of the mochinuts was fine. I kind of liked it, but they tasted like the oil that they were fried in was old. Don't get me started on how awful the boba was. They should put a disclaimer that the coffee is made from Instant Coffee that they got at the dollar store and it expired 5 years ago. I don't know what awful purple liquid they put in my "Ube" boba before they handed it to me, but I have never had Ube boba that made me physically gag before. The staff was very friendly and sweet, but seriously, who is running this place? It's a self-service kiosk, so why are people having to wait an hour for you to box some doughnuts? During their grand opening week, I visited and waited over 40 minutes for my order, which consisted of a hot Cheetos Korean corndog and a brown sugar boba milk tea. My tea was fine, though nothing particularly special. What was most disappointing, however, was the change in service. Instead of the friendly but overwhelmed staff from my first visit, I was greeted by a blonde woman who seemed to have an attitude, as though I had inconvenienced her. Overall, my second experience was far from satisfactory. Despite trying to give them another chance, the combination of subpar food, lackluster service, and high prices makes it difficult to recommend. We ordered our food,potato half cheese half hotdog corn dog and a mochinut ( cotton candy flavored) . The people working there acted like they had no idea what was going on and were just awkwardly standing around while people were sitting and waiting for their order. It was like they decided to start making the orders once more people walked in. They kept the boba in a crockpot just sitting on the counter and all of the teas in random pitchers over ice. It was not very appetizing and it looked like they only had enough money to open the store but not enough to purchase proper supplies for it. The mochi donuts were stale and we spent $18 on two drinks and a single donut. I wanted to get a refund once I saw the crockpot and as I was standing there reading reviews. It was a complete waste of money. We took one sip of our drinks and threw them away because we were just grossed out.
