Ughhhh, Moda, Moda, Moda. Oh how the mighty have fallen. I desperately want to love you so why must you hurt me like this.
Venue/events....love this place. Love watching my Blazers play here, and feel like the ownership has really kept the Moda Center a top notch facility for games and events. But wait, cue ensuing tragedy.
With club level tickets, one used to go to a game and love that they could start with a passable meal on the buffet. You could then look forward to filling any food gap you may have, with an endless line of concession fillers like nachos, popcorn, a soda, peanuts, a hot dog. It was all part of the experience, and frankly, the free concessions made club level tickets feel special because you didn't have to buy it at the counter.
Cue my tears of sadness when I heard this was all being replaced by individual food cart style kiosks and counters. But I was hopefully optimistic that sacrificing quantity for quality could be a fair trade. After all, they took our free food wristbands, but gave us a $30 food voucher. Enter painful disappointment.
Walking the club level food court was sad. While there were a few recognizable names in the mix, mostly what I saw was upgraded concession stand food at upgraded prices. Yes the burgers were slightly better than the $6.00 cardboard burgers you used to get. But for $13.00 they should be great. I paid $12.50 for a burrito that was barely mediocre. That $30 credit goes bye bye real quick when you pay $20 for a mediocre burrito and a soda. Not to mention you must carry your ticket with you to get the credit and keep track of what is left. Blah blah blah, I don't want to do math at a Blazer game, sorry. If the food was high end actual food carts, I might be able to cope with this, but really, most of this looked like just upgraded concession stand food, and the burrito I got only reenforced my initial impressions. And roll final injustice.
I just wanted a bag of popcorn for the second half. Not a $7 dime bag of Carmel corn or chocolate covered popcorn, (the only things available on club level), just regular old, going to the game, get me through the second half, salty delicious popcorn...No, no popcorn for you Club Level. Not one regular concession booth where I could get popcorn or cheap chips and processed cheese dip, or a mass produced pretzel with salt and a cup of industrial cheese. No, if I wanted anything like that I had to go downstairs to the main concourse and get it. Which I did, and who is this in line with me? "Oh, well hello, several other Club Level ticket holders who also had to go downstairs to find a bag of popcorn, and were also irritated by the whole food situation upstairs. Pleasure to meet you." Roll end credits.
Moda, fix it. I know you are trying. I love the Blazer games and events. Hear this. People will pay for quality, or people will pay for quantity. But right now there is neither. Food just got crazy expensive for okay food. Yes, I see all those pre-made burgers sitting under the warmer an hour before game time and know you charge $12 to $13 for it. Keep trying. Annnnd cut! That's a wrap. read more
