It's hard to read this as it's fine and meets all the needs, but I also wish it was better! Would be great if the seats reclined, but they are comfortable enough to sit through a two hour movie. Rarely have I seen the place packed, which is very enjoyable for me. Of course, just like everywhere. The prices of snacks are out of this world. The place is clean whenever we've gone there. The Regal Fox Theater is one of the few multiplexes left still in business downtown Portland. I'm fortunate to live within walking distance to this establishment. It's in the heart of the city but up an escalator of the beaten path. A great place to catch a new release film or not so new . It's located at the Southwest Park Blocks near Pioneer Square, Nordstrom and one of Elephants Deli locations. Head upstairs and purchase a ticket, refreshments and enjoy a relaxing afternoon or evening. read more

Century 16 at Cedar Hills has really raised the bar for me with their super comfy seats that fully recline allowing you to elevate your legs making Regal Fox Towers feel even more outdated. On a positive, they offer reserved seating, the bathrooms are clean, and when we go to a late movie, we can often find parking on the street for free after 7:00. We come here only if we are doing dinner downtown or if they are showing a movie not playing elsewhere. But if I have a choice, I'll drive to Cedar Hills Because I absolutely hate paying $7-8 for parking on top of the price of the movie tickets. Concessions here also are high, as is the case with most theatres since you are a captive audience. All in all it's just A-ok, nothing special, only go when it's convenient. Went to the matinee earlier today to see 'Roadrunner' (the documentary about Anthony Bourdain). I really enjoyed the film but after the 2 hours in the theater my back was pretty sore. It's a nice enough place, but crappy seats in my opinion. $30 for the matinee & a large bucket of popcorn was pretty reasonable. Place seemed clean & staff were professional. We made a return trip to this theater on our recent trip to Regal Cinemas to see Foxcatcher. Although the movie was slow and the actors were the worst looking possible for Channing Tatum, Mark Rufalo and Steve Carrell, the experience was pretty good. We were able to pre-buy tickets, using a scan code on our smart phone to check in. They now offer BEER and WINE with your snacks, which was new compared to the last time we were and well welcomed. So if you buy, say, 4 tickets, every lbOdy has to be there at the same time. ANY OTHER venue gives you individual tickets. Also their concession stand is understaffed. They charge a pretty penny but their customer service sucks. How hard is it to send individual tickets - but then big theaters like this could care less about customers. It's all about max profits. When you pay 14 bucks per ticket, the movie should start on time. Making a captive audience sit through 30 MINUTES of ads and commercials after the start time of the film is really crappy. The theater itself is a perfectly fine place to watch a movie, however I've had issues with their staff related to their bag check policy. Last night I went to this theater to see the movie Love, Antosha. I'm a black man in my early 30s and I entered the theater at the same time as a white woman who I'd guess was in her mid to late 20s. We were both carrying backpacks of around the same size and the woman was allowed to enter the theater without a bag check, but the ticket taker insisted on checking my bag. When I pointed out to him that he did not check the bag of the woman who entered the theater immediately before me he acknowledged that he was wrong and apologized for what was clearly a bias on his part. My intention in writing this review is not to get this particular person in trouble, but this is not the only time I've experienced this at this theater, and he is not the only staff member I've had this experience with. I understand that it is Regal's right to institute a bag check policy, but the policy needs to apply fairly to everyone regardless of what they look like or even what type of bag they're carrying. I should also note that I've had similar experiences at the Regal Pioneer Place theater. I go to *a lot* of movies and this Regal is very close to where I live. I was considering getting their new Unlimited plan to be able to come to the theater as often as I want, but if I'm going to keep experiencing this I'll just take my business elsewhere. read more

Wow - I didn't know that I had stumbled upon such a controversial theater! This is one of those places that makes the "rating details"* both completely applicable...and at the same time utterly useless! I mean...who do you trust?!? Well - I'm not going to touch on the motifs of architecture used in the theater's design, nor will I hit on the debate on whether nodes in the viewing room exist or not. And it is ALWAYS a painful process pulling out 10 bones for a film...no matter where you are. But what I LOVE LOVE LOVE about Fox Tower are the smaller and lesser known films they choose to show. Somehow, this exceltionally corporate environment goes against the grain to show independant films - a brilliant change of pace from the tragically formulaic selection of most corporately owned theaters. It's like you get all the benefits of being a part of the Regal Group (think big, cushy seats that both rock and recline) ...but the incredible selection of a small theater at a film festival! Unfortunately, this paradox comes with a price...and more specifically: $10. I'd say go to a matinee...but even that is $8. **WC** I know...I know! Four years ago I said "NEVER AGAIN" but I did it...for one reason only... Transpotting 2 - they were the only theater that was playing it. Ugh... I dreaded it. I rolled up in my wheelchair...oh, elevator right there...k...oh, even a passthru elevator ...alright... Not a huge fan of the sign pointing out the window saying I could purchase tickets there but I was a fan of the lovely lady waving her arm right at me with a smile saying she would love to get me tickets and so sorry about that sign! If you are in a chair at this theater your "companion" gets in free! I even had a pass left a friend gave me for my birthday so woot! Free movie! She coded our tickets wrong (without assigning us seats) and she was VERY nice about it and apologized worked fast to get us the correct tickets. Next up - super nice guy rang us up for popcorn and a cherry slushie because this is how I roll. He did PERFECT butter...EPIC BUTTER...layered and fast! Thanks guy :) The theater was great - super clean though I had to laugh and poke fun of the "Need Assistance" button next to my sitting area in ADA. I was snapping a picture of it because HEEHEE...I might need assistance...like world peace, a massage...or how do you say movie in Japanese please (you won't let me use my phone soooooooo). As I was musing with my husband as to all the ways that button can and might be used by someone to be a complete asshole (and probably has been), I still think it is pretty rad that someone with GENUINE special needs actually has an easy way to reach out without having to scream or something. I love movies and there is something about seeing a film in theatres with other people that can't be replaced for me. I almost entirely go to smaller, local theatres like the Hollywood or Cinema 21, but I make an except for the Fox Tower. They get a lot of limited release films pretty quickly. Not NY or LA quick, but quick for Portland standards. The seats are all comfortable and there are several screens so there is a wide breadth of films to choose from. Now they even sell beer and wine! Why not five stars? It's still a corporate chain. I am not a fan of stadium seating. Tickets are more expensive than the before mentioned theatres. The concessions cost an arm and a leg. If you find yourself having to go to a big name theatre, this is the best of the bunch. read more

The best thing about Fox Tower theater is that you can watch movies that aren't as mainstream as Batman or Spider-Man. You can see the great films that don't stay in the typical theater long enough if at all as long as you stay tuned to what's at the Fox Tower. I don't go to movie theaters a lot. Usually I take the kiddo out to see whatever animated film is out. Being that I am now in Portland, and she is in Texas I have the ability to see other films I wouldn't usually see. I'm more likely to go find a RedBox and wait till the movies are there. It was a rare occasion to go see one out. My brother and I had been at a storage unit for several hours (not fun) and then to the Slow Bar (great food and music) and his girlfriend wanted to see Dallas Buyers Club. I knew nothing of it but it turned out to be a really great movie. The theater was what it was. $11 for a ticket and it's a wonder why I'd rather stay home or go find the dollar theater. In the country of Regal Cinemas, this one is by far the nicest one in its offerings that are less mainstream and more indie. They still have big releases, but they also carry smaller ones. It's surprising, because in other parts of the country, the big release films are the only ones available. You can pre-purchase for your movie and just flash your phone upon arrival. Then you won't have to stand outside. Walk up the stairs or escalator, past concessions, and watch your movie. Good times. read more

I visit this theater three to four times a month. They have clean theaters, decent sound, and the staff is friendly. The bathrooms are huge and clean. It has reserved seating, and you choose your seat when you buy your ticket. I like getting a view of how many people have purchased tickets before me, and seeing how the seating is spread out. Overall, it's pretty decent. PS. I highly recommend the regal club app if you see a lot of movies. I also use Moviepass, which you can use with the regal club membership. read more

Show me ads for local businesses, show me previews of upcoming movies, I can handle all that,and I expect it. But Noovie, whatever the heck that is, and the on-screen, please-download-and -play-while-you-wait video games was too much! Please make it stop!! Last minute decision to head out to a movie last night. First time visiting Regal. The bright spot was when we asked what age the senior discount applied and found out we could save a few bucks as we are over sixty. Great. Went up the escalator and while my wife went to the bathroom, I attempted to order two glasses of wine. Attempted, as I then found out I could not order two at one time. Wow, assume that I wanted to get drunk? Wife came back then we ordered. I then had to produce ID. OK, the lady that sold me the ticket for a reduced amount as we were over 60 didn't ask for my ID but now they are checking to see if I am over 21. Really? We both had our documents in order allowing us to purchase the wine, when we were then asked to bare our wrists to allow them to place a wrist band on. The purpose of the band is to indicate how many drinks we purchase during our movie. Well, since they didn't post the alcoholic beverage prices, at $10, we really didn't need the wrist band. The small pour in a plastic cup would be the only one we could afford. To Regal management; allow your employees to use their common sense. Go to the Living Room theaters and see how respectful they treat their customers. I have to assume you are heavily religious and that alcoholic beverages equate to the devil. read more

wow i could not hate a theater more! my two girl friends and i tried to see the cool new movie Get Out tonight, and we couldn't get in! we are all at least 18 years old but one of us had forgotten her ID (honest mistake), but don't fret! she had her college ID! the same college ID we all had, but they wouldn't let her in! i'm very upset i was ready to spend lots of money on snacks and enjoy this film. from now on i will always be going to the regal at pioneer place (they did not ask for our ID's when we saw an R rated movie there, by the way). smh i jus wanted to see get out . i'm sad read more

I don't go to the big box multi-plex theaters often. I can wait until they make it to Laurelhurst theater. If the one I want doesn't make it there, or I miss it there, I can catch it on red box or wherever. When I want to see it fast on the big screen then I try and hit the Bagdad...well you get the idea. On occasion I am in the mood for a movie and the one I want is at the big ones. If on my own I come here or Pioneer Place. OK that was a lot of qualifiers but sometimes thats how my brain works. OK I edited a few... This is actually a good place to see a movie, I can grab a pre movie bite downstairs at Flying Elephants or around to corner at Pieology both solid choices, They usually have a good assortment of movies here and the layout is good. You take the escalator to the top. Concessions (typical high prices for popcorn out of a bag, candy, buckets of Coke etc) are straight ahead then to the left the theaters are laid out in kind of a loop with the restrooms in the middle. The rooms are varying sizes with a steep slope so the person behind me isn't buying me to scrunch down. The theater is kept clean and comfortable, with good sound and picture. Really unless you sit to far forward any seat will get you a good view. In all it's a winner in the multiplex game. Tip in nice weather if your waiting for your time there is a good park across the street for people watching. read more

I came last week during a furnace-like day. The movie didn't matter; the air conditioning did. It's a great coping mechanism that along with the movie makes the hot world go away and let's the cool movie fantasy world stay. The location is great. There are two Elephant restaurants (one in the building and a freestanding outlet just across Director's Square). Ringside Fish House is also located in the building. There are plenty of items available at the concession stand, but they are quite expensive. When you buy your ticket, you are asked to choose a numbered seat and row which is printed out on your ticket. At first thought, it seemed like a good idea, but later on during the movie I was seated between two people and had to share my armrests! Gasp, fiendish, I know, but there was no means of escape. Before they started using this system, one could move around and choose other more comfortable seating situations. Other than that, the seats were physically comfortable to sit in during the whole movie. The movie was very clear on the screen, and sound quality was good. Everything was very clean, and the staff friendly and helpful. I think this is a perfectly good place to come to watch movies even during other seasons than summer. I'm being funny, but I think you will enjoy any movie-viewing experience here. read more

If you're a fan of this sort of uber-corporate theater, stop reading now. Do us both a favor... I readily admit that I love old movie palace/single screen theaters. I do not want a trough-sized feeder of popcorn, nor do I want a 40,000 oz. Coke. I do not appreciate seats crammed so close together a woman of my stature ( 5'6 and thin) cannot cross her legs. I could understand if I happened to be over 7' tall, but I was wedged in here tighter than the most recent flight on Southwest Airlines (in coach)! We wanted to see 'Slumdog Millionaire', which is a FANTASTIC movie, by the way...We paid our $10.50 each, and proceeded like sheep to a slaughter up the escalator to Theater 1. I blew a fuse! I embarrassed The Big Man...as I walked into a room the size of our bedroom with seats crammed so close together it must violate a health code, it became apparent there were one or two seats in the very front row. No thanks. I spend too much time & $$ at the chiropractor to destroy all my progress. I insisted on getting an exchange or a refund. I marched out, Big Man followed, probably wanting to hide underneath the logo'd carpet... We got an exchange after signing in triplicate some corporate form...We then lined up for another theater which was promised to be 'much bigger'. Well, not really, it's just that it was empty. Snotty cleaning lady wouldn't let anyone enter till she was 'all through'...take your power where you can, Sister! Crammed-packed into this theater, but not in danger of throwing my neck out of alignment, we were then treated to 30 minutes of the worst corporate commercials, including one to have our work meetings in the theater...uh...no. I come to a theater to watch a show, not listen to PowerPoint presentations... I'm giving this place 2 stars solely b/c the movie was amazing! I will never willingly attend another film here again, regardless of how tough it may be to locate another place showing a first run movie I'm dying to see. The sound was loud, the seating lousy, the price? Well, I guess it's the going rate, but seemed high for what we got. The workers were all drones without an ounce of humanity seemingly present...Jeez! I used to go to more movies at Regal Fox Tower. When I lived Downtown I went to about two to seven movies between March and Halloween every year. Then I met my Darling Husband. Because there is a Fandango ticketing machine I bought my Darling Husband and myself tickets on that machine once. It works well. I used to see Independent movies (one was named "Swimming Pool") at this Regal Fox Tower cinema. There were a few people who complained that the escalator took longer than they wanted. I spoke with the manager in 2005 once about the policy for Disabled patrons of the Fox Tower. I was told the policy was very good, and that the Disabled patrons could be accompanied by another able bodied person (as their assistant). The helper would be given a complimentary ticket. I asked about seeing eye dogs as well. I was told nobody had tried to go to the Fox Tower theater with their seeing eye dog before. I also asked about a refill on soda pop or popcorn. I was told... the portions were big... so I probably wouldn't require a refill. I was also told that the concession stand served only Ticketed movie goers... unlike the concession stand at Regal inside Pioneer Square Mall (it's on the top floor). I bought a few bags of popcorn on my way out of the movie theater... because... well, why not?! And it doesn't taste bad when cold. I asked for no butter, though. There were a few movies that I noticed were only viewed by a certain crowd. During one showing a younger white man got up and left the movie theater. I don't remember what that specific movie was, though. When it's raining in Downtown Portland, there are a few people pre Pandemic who wait under the overhangs on most all of the buildings... and sometimes... those people are waiting under the corner at the Regal Fox Tower. One of those strangers said I was,... "Very fashionable" one afternoon in 2012. In general... it's good to look good... but, there are too many Criminals that live in Downtown Portland now... so I won't dress up to go to the movies in a skirt... because... it's just not right to have strange strangers trying to be my boyfriend... when I'm not interested in them. read more
