Super friendly waiter, he was very social and helpful. Winery views were amazing. It was great to sip on the wines and take in the views. Wine was delicious, we picked up a bottle to go. One complaint is $9 for a bag of chips is pretty excessive. I can understand a mark up but more than double the retail price is extreme. read more

We were really looking forward to trying this place, but the experience was disappointing from the start. We attempted to make a reservation in advance by email, but our message was left unread. We also called three separate times and never received a response. When we finally went in, the service didn't improve. We waited 35 minutes just to get a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, the lack of communication before our visit and the extremely slow service during it made for a frustrating experience. I hope they can improve their customer service because it has a lot of room for improvement. read more

A beautiful place to sit in Adirondack chairs, look over the vineyard and enjoy a glass of wine. Located on 76 acres of land, Modales wines are a variety of dry, sweet , red and white wines. We ordered our drinks at the bar, and service was good. We were going to try a flight, but you could not select the wines, so we opted to order single glasses instead. Even though this is a winery, I opted for a cider. They do offer tastings and tours. One of the previous times we visited, they had a artesian market. A serene setting to enjoy. read more

We enjoyed hanging outside with our two dogs on the Adirondack chairs in grassy area at Modales Wines. It was a cool, beautiful night and there was a "walking taco" truck when we visited. The wines I tasted were great and I especially liked the sparkling muscat and the pinot noir. Server (Lenora, I think was her name) was a delight and took time to explain what I was tasting. We bought several bottles to bring home with us. The view of the trails and vineyard were beautiful and calming. I would love to return to the winery and the Fennville area to get more wines. read more

A Tasting Room with Delusions of Grandeur Let me begin by stating that I've never been thrown out of a bar for boxed crackers and cheese before. There's a first time for everything, I suppose -- including a wine tasting room that thinks it's Buckingham Palace. We arrived at Modales on a slow day. And when I say slow, I mean the kind of slow where if you shouted "Hello?" you'd hear your own voice echo off a flight of empty wine glasses. Maybe eight people were present, and I'm being generous. Think library, not party. We asked to sit at the bar -- which, by the way, was empty and beautifully staged for tastings no one was having. The staff said sure, with the gentle caveat that we may need to move if a tasting started. Fair enough. We ordered a few wines and the infamous "variety" of crackers and a delicious small tub of Evergreen creamery (local) goat cheese. And then, the switch flipped. Suddenly, we were told we had to move because our cheese -- our barely-scented cheese -- might offend the delicate olfactory palates of future tasters. Tastings, mind you, that were still hypothetical. First of all: read the room. This isn't Napa. This is a quiet corner of Michigan on a cold wintery Friday. And no one is here. Second: if your wine is so fragile it can be derailed by a cracker, perhaps the wine is the problem. There's an undeniable formality here, the kind that suggests someone watched Sideways one too many times and decided to open a vineyard. The tone is serious. Self-serious. A little bit "we're doing something important here," as if fermentation is a philosophy degree. And please -- stop asking me to join your wine club. I just want a glass of palpable red, one of your very mediocre whites and the ok glass of cider not a lifelong commitment to monthly shipments and a mailing list. In conclusion: the wine was fine, remember it's Michigan not Healdsburg. The atmosphere was bizarre. And the only thing paired with our cheese was confusion. read more

The flights are only available on the patio so you might want to get a reservation. There was live music for the first 30m we arrived which was awesome. The weather was nice and the wine was flowing. An absolute GEM right here in Michigan. To the quality of the wines all the way to how the wine is farmed and produced. You will not find a better vineyard in Michigan. Certified organic, sustainability regenerative farmed. It's truly something special that anyone who cares about wine will appreciate. Shout out to Cat who was our tour guide. She did such a Wonderful job explaining the process, cracking jokes and her knowledge having lived in California and appreciating viniculture was really cool. I stumbled upon Modales wines after picking up their skin contact orange wine in Meijer for 20$ and ever since I've been buying Meijer out every chance I get. Keep the great juice coming! read more

Modales is a must on any West Michigan wine tour. The grounds are lovely, staff is lovely, and the wines are pretty great. My party and I did a tasting over a bag of kettle chips and had zero complaints. We were all really pleased with our tastes. Better yet: we ordered another pour and walked through the vineyards. Our first visit was earlier this year and we've been back multiple times since. Modales has some of the better wines in Michigan, at least from what I've experienced. I remember being surprised at how much I liked one of their whites and reds on the first visit. It was like, woah, this is better than the usual wines in Michigan and kind of caught me by surprise. It's a little off the main highway, but I think it's a worthwhile visit if you're looking for some good wine and a chill, friendly-family environment. They don't have a full menu, so if you're expecting to have lunch or dinner, expect to snack on some wine chips, cheeses and meats. While the wine chips are good, I come for the wine and environment. They have bigger events here and there, but I'm fine coming on a random weekday or weekend to sip on some wine and overlook the vineyard. read more

Came for a friend's 40th birthday. We sat at the bar and had the flights. They were accommodating, and we enjoyed the wines and had good fun! We had the charcuterie, and many items were prepackaged that you had to unpack and set yourself up. I went for a tour on a bachelorette and had an AMAZING experience. Our tour guide knew her stuff and was very down to earth. This is not the snobby winery experience. What a great discovery! We were in the area and looking for another sipping experience and decided to give this spot a try...so glad we did! They had socially distanced (and separated) tables on their glassed-in patio area, right under the overhead space heaters. We each ordered a wine sampling tray along with a selection of snacks including local cheeses, meats and crackers. Our server was quite knowledgeable and pleasant as she guided us through the ordering process. We each had a selection of white wines, red wines and ciders. We did not like them all, but many were quite tasty...so mush so that we bought bottles to bring home for use during our family's Thanksgiving meal. We also brought home several six packs of their delicious ciders, an unexpected surprise. Came here for a bachelorette tasking for 7, we scheduled about a month in advance. The tasting was well planned, with waters, crackers, and pencils at each seating. George and team led us through the tasting with good banter, insight, and hospitality--and even asked to take a picture of us as a group. We decided to stop here on a Friday as we were from out of town and were just following signs. We were asked if we had reservations for a tasting, which we did not, but they were able to seat us at the tasting bar. We started to warm up from the frigid weather and perused the tasting options. No tastings on the bubbles. Wah wah! I tried the 2020 Pinot noir, the 2020 rose, 2020 chambourcin, grüner veltliner, and the brut red. They were all solid. Not one that I did not like. I enjoyed the rose quite a bit, but opted to buy the chambourcin because I know my hubby will enjoy it. It was definitely peppery with some cherry and mulberry notes. This winery is newer and beautiful! You can only do a tasting at the bar area, but they have plenty of seating and indoor/outdoor section covered for the weather. I'd love to see it in the summertime! We loved our server and I failed to get her name, or at least remember it after all my tastings. But, she has a six year old lab/shepherd she shared a picture of with us. She was an absolute great help! I also bought the Brut rose because I wanted to try it badly enough. Saving it for NYE though! If you spend $50, you basically get your tasting for free which is $15! You can also obtain volume discounts if you buy more than 6 bottles. read more

Okay so, not sure where I've been but I just found this place recently! We have had a house in South Haven for 4 years and I'm just discovering Modales! I'm so happy I did! First, the facility is stunning! So gorgeous and really practical. Tons of patio seating that is covered and the windows can be closed in the winter. So smart! We took the kids out to the grass and sat in lawn chairs while they played with a soccer ball that the folks at the winery offered to us. I had the brut white, which was super fresh and crisp! I decided I wanted a bottle to take home and they only sell it in 1.5L growlers...so I was like sure! It was only $10!! I feel like I was winning the wine game that day can't wait to go back to try the food and the gourmet ice cream! Yum!! read more

Small boutique "new" Winery with a family friendly feel. Apparently only 6-weeks old but their grapes have been grown off premise for the last 3 years. They plan to re-home the vineyards over the next few seasons which I think will only add to the simple scenery here. Honestly I didn't know Michigan had wineries. I came as part of a group from Chicago proper and was pleasantly suprised by the variety in flights! I typically trend toward bold reds and they have a few but their shinning star IMO is the Oodin Brut. The super cool thing here at Modales is they fill the bottles up as you order them. Also in the Tasting Room, they literally pulled Wine out of oak barrels by glass for us and provided brie and goat cheese along lovely fresh plums as compliments. Made the our whole experience unique and memorable! Yelp tip: Marco was the best! Gave us some extra samples, got us laughing & you can tell he truly cares about hosting with the mostest! read more

For a Michigan winery, the wine was great. The space is welcoming and the service was great. They seem to have a good amount of business on weekends, so be prepared for a crowd.
