I have had many brewery beers and "flights" in many locations, including others in downtown South Haven, but this one is by far one of the best. I can't remember all the flavors I tried, but two stand out high above almost any other I've ever had: The "Ursa Major" was a spark of hoppy IPA that was absolutely spectacular. On the opposite end of the spectrum, was the Shamerhorn shanty (not sure about that spelling). I don't usually go for fruity beers, but decided to try it. They mix a little bit of their homemade orange cream soda into one of their wheat beers to make this wonderfully vibrant concoction of summer spirit. It's packed full of flavor, and the zest of orange makes it taste completely refreshing on a hot summer day. There is no food served here, but you can bring food in from the outside. They do have a small popcorn machine if that suits your fancy. Our staff was very knowledgeable about the beer and also very friendly. read more

We have been to Harbor Light a few times and each time we are welcomed by friendly , pleasant server . It is located in the middle of downtown South Haven and promotes the lake atmosphere. My daughter and I shared a cider flight. The Mosa and Mose Sunrise was my favorite . The cider with orange soda was a unique pairing that worked well together. They offer different size options for their beers and ciders, and samples if you are undecided. There is complimentary popcorn to accompany the drinks. read more

Dave was our bartender and he's GREAT! Friendly, funny, chill guy. My brother is the beer aficionado and our cousin and I not so much. He gave great recommendations and Ivey beer we each was stellar. They had a big ole bacon event today that sold out & had them hopping. The music starts soon to boot. This means we're here in the lull. We were advised that the menu is the same. Happy hour Monday-Thursday. $1 off of pints. No food but you can bring food in if you want. Nice selection of beers & ciders. I ordered a flight of 4 beers and a peach cider. Bartender was very knowledgeable about the selections. Beers were priced reasonably. I ordered the Everlasting Gobstopper which was the pumpkin spice ale. This had a good pumpkin spice but was a little too heavy in the coffee flavor. The Red hared cider was a peach flavor cider that would be refreshing on a hot day. The Maggie's frog was a kiwi lime gose that had more of a lime flavor than kiwi. It was the appropriate level of sour but had a little bit of a bitter finish. The IPA's were where it was at. I ordered both the snake and turbo IPA's both were excellent. There were 3 other IPA's that I did not try. Next time I will probably stick with an IPA flight. Very cool spot. read more

We love coming here when we visit South Haven. They don't have food, but offer complimentary popcorn. My husband and I aren't big on beer, but their ciders are fantastic. We split a flight of ciders so we could try multiple and it was definitely the right choice! One of our trips each year is a visit to Lake Michigan's western shores for a few weeks. We rent a home on the lake and visit local establishments for shopping, dinners and fun. We went into Harbor Light Brewery, in South Haven, to take some local beers back to our friends as gifts. The older man waiting on us to fill an order wasn't the nicest. He seemed to be the owner, but not sure. His customer service wasn't the best. He seemed more interested in the younger women in this establishment than paying customers. We really don't hang out in breweries, so we had questions. He seemed put off! Hope it was just an off day, but for price we paid for his product, you might think he would be pleased. One of his larger orders for the day I would think. We bought some brews and he even made a comment about us spending so much for the beer. Why would he care? Rude. Our visit was in late summer. Our friends really aren't a fan of his brew. We have several cans left from our dinners, parties. My experience with dealing with the public is to be kind, answer questions, sell product. Located in downtown South Haven, this spot featured that cozy, sort of hole-in-the-wall yet still classy vibe. It was packed that day, and the only seats left were at the bar, which was great if you wanted quick service. They also had live music on the stage in front of the window. This is a nice spot downtown South Haven to grab a beer and there is no food. The guys behind the bar were very personable and fun to talk with. Maybe it was just me, but I was not too big a fan of the beer. For example, there was a mango wheat ale that tasted like artificial mango flavoring. read more

The brewer was very nice and stopped by and chatted with us. Ma' coffee pot, Zoltan, blueberry and peach ciders were some of our favorites. cute brewery on the main drag. We had a blast trying different beers and meeting all the fellow tourists at the bar. They even had a special where we could get beer and also order pizza from the place next door. I didn't love all the beer but there were definitely a couple I had "big-girl" sizes of after my flight. Probably the best brewery overall in South Haven. The location is great being right downtown. The ambiance is a classic on-the-lake brewery with lots of wood, a long bar, and high tables all of which are kept nicely. The service is great, but this is southwest Michigan, so expect way too many people in the summer. They offer plenty of samples, and the pricing is reasonable. There are some had reviews for the quality of beer, and I would argue those people are either IPA drinkers or dark beer drinkers. While Harbor Light does not necessarily specialize in either, you will find decent choices. This place is perfect for people who like lighter Belgian beers (saisons, Belgian white, etc) and American light-medium (wheat, amber, American pils, etc) because it's geared for people who are walking around town and want something less filling and moderate to low abv. Come in the fall or winter for their really good dark beers, fall beers, and winter ales if you are into those. read more

In South Haven on vacation and this place was recommended by my grown children as a great place with really good beer. They are right. I had Red Haven peach cider. Hummmmm delicious. The decor is very well done. Comfortable and inviting. They have 24 of their home brewed beers and ciders. They don't have food but they invite you to order from any of the local establishments and have it delivered to you while you partake. Very pet friendly. I rarely leave a Yelp review but feel obligated after choosing this spot due to a five star Yelp review (I'm looking at you, Matthew). This is hands down the worst beer I've had at a brewery. I've had bad beer before, but never so bad that I couldn't finish a flight. My partner and I shared a flight of five and all five were awful. My husband and I were walking to Taste when we passed Harbor Light Brewery. Taste told us it was 45 minutes for a table so we decided to go back to the brewery for a beer. I actually thought it looked closed from the outside. We tried the door and it was open. We walked into a place that felt like a home. There were young couples with kids playing board games, college guys at the bar, couples playing dominos. It was awesome!!! They had a great selection of beer and ciders. They had snacks only, like fresh popcorn, but said you could bring in your own food. NP The band was just starting to play when our table was ready so we ate and came back for more beer and great music. I lost to my husband at Yahtzee. Wow - if you like quality craft beer this is the best around. The variety is great. Ciders and Altbier and Porters and Stouts. I swore off IPA's because of the bitter, overwhelming hoppiness, but Harbor Light has figured out IPA's without the bitter aftertaste. First time in South Haven and found this new brewery in town. It had live music Friday evening which is what drew my husband and I in. We were pleasantly surprised with the large selection of beers. I think there were 25. We had a flight with 3 IPAs, a red and an amber. It was hard to pick a favorite, as they were all really good. Hubby settled on the Ursa Minor and I had the amber. There is no food but you can order from local places. We actually had the beer cheese which is made by a local. Delicious! The owner, Tom, was behind the bar. He made us feel like a regular. He was funny, attentive and made our experience there one of the best we've had at a local brewery. We went back Saturday and had the same experience.
