Great coffee. Cool vibe and decor. This place is a little hidden and not many people know about it. I wish they stayed open later.

First of all, I'm not new to mod cup. I frequent the location in JC Heights. But the experience I've had here is just disappointing. The barista tried to dupe me and give me a half cup of coffee? While trying to charge me full price? Stating "Hey I could only fill it up to there, unless you want to wait for a fresh pot it'll be like 10 minutes" You either don't give a shit or don't have any regard in representing the brand and company you work for in a decent capacity. Anytime I have the fortune to stop by any of Modcup's shops, it's been a real good thing! Because of convenience, the 25 Senate Place is my most frequent stop. This is the heartbeat of the business and at times very busy with behind the scenes activity but I never fail to hear a greeting and "I will be with you in a minute!" if the barista is multitasking! Today, I went and although they were busy Malcom and Jefferson took the time to chat! Malcom not only showed me their new roaster but amazed me at his knowledge about the machine. Jefferson, who was very busy, nevertheless took the time to chat! Oh yeah I had a Barundi pourover recommended and brewed by Malcom. He aced it! It's not called "chai tea" ya dingle. Chai means tea. Modcup is by far the best cafe and coffee roaster in Jersey. Keep ordering chai tea and listening to Taylor swift at big chains if that makes you happy. read more

Quality coffee shops like these are few and far in between. I haven't been able to find anyone who cares about their coffee as much as their customers opinions of their product. You can taste how fresh the coffee beans are in every sip. Wish I could find a place like this in Boston. The closest I've been able to find yet is in Medford at a local coffee shop I found in the square. read more

One of my favorite coffee spots in NY/NJ. Actually the quality of their coffee inspired me to want to open my own coffee shop. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to educate me on what coffee I was getting and where it came from. They made suggestions based on what mood I was in which is a great thing to offer. Their pour over coffees are always stellar, try their Ethiopia! Also, they don't have traditional drink names, they go by a simple method of espresso w/10 oz of milk, or es. W/6 oz of milk,, or with 4oz of milk. Super simple, and makes perfect sense! Specifically focused on only coffee place. Great baristas and always a great coffee. There is definitely a little improvement needed for cappuccino making since it's a hit or run ( sometimes more milk added sometimes not) but it always comes out great. Not a really busy place considering the space they offer for you to be in. Great interior. read more

Stylish and convenient Mod Cup just opened up in the Mana/Canco neighborhood at the 25 senate place building. Lots of funky types of coffee including cold brew concentrate. Seating is interesting although slightly awkward. Thought they had Marble but it was actually fake. High ceilings and bright. Wish they had more food options. I like this place because it is super close to Canco condos. I also love their coffee. But today, and many other times, we are visiting here and this place isn't open when they say they would open. We check the hours on the window and on the internet and they say 8:30, but I've never seen them open at the times stated. Weekend or weekday. What is going on? Is it a business you are interested in growing? People drink coffee all day, but I especially want it early in the morning. Finishing this review 12/17. We now go to square one most of the time. Good coffee, but spartan otherwise and opens too late for me to indulge on the weekdays. Coffee is served with a side of judgment if you ask for any sweetener other than simple syrup. Modern indoor decor with suspended chairs that add whimsy. read more

I was really looking forward to having a coffee shop close by to where I live, but unfortunately I haven't had the best experiences here. I always give multiple chances, but between the rude service (I feel like I'm interrupting the baristas day when I walk in - no smile, barely any greeting, a "would you like fries with that" feel) to the hygiene (the male barista is always smoking outside, never washes his hands when he follows me in, and then grabs the unwrapped straws with his cigarette hands) I just can't see myself giving it another shot. Its unfortunate because I buy coffee every day, and I would have loved to have the convenience as well as give a local business my business. read more

I ordered an iced americano and it was great. The decor was vintage, diy, and included British Mod ephemera, large windows with plenty of light, huge high ceilings, and there's a cute park around the corner. They offer some unusual brew methods that I found interesting, like a vacuum/gravity siphon thing. Very neat and not something I've ever seen. The service was less than stellar. I read a sign on the door that this is the roastery/HQ and staff may be busy. Totally fine with me... I had time to kill and wasn't in a rush. I was greeted with "you're going to have to wait, I'm busy with this..." as he made a pour over. The barista seemed to enjoy talking down to me. He immediately scoffed that I ordered an americano and made a few suggestions. I appreciated the suggestions, and declined. Afterwards I asked for cream and was again scoffed at, and told "that's a latte" with disdain. Luckily when paying with a card, there's no option to leave a tip. I sat and enjoyed a book on coffee types from Ethiopia, which was awesome because that's my favorite flavor origin. They had lots of texts about coffee available to read through, which was great because I'd never seen that anywhere else. Oddly the next customer came in, was greeted warmly, ordered without incident, and left. read more

You need to extend the evening hours . 4 pm is way too early . Tenants come from work after 5 -6pm . Nobody gets to sit at the cafe and enjoy cup of coffee after work or post dinner . Atleast extend it till 7 or 8 pm .I hope you take this suggestion into consideration and I'm sure many customers will be happy about it . read more

Really nice decor. Not difficult to find if you're using Google maps. Warning: they don't have any snacks for sale, only some croissants. Also, if you're looking for a place to sit and do work on your laptop, don't go here - they only have coffee tables. I didn't hold that against them, though. The only reason why I didn't give five stars is that the barista there (early afternoon) was somehow simultaneously off putting and yet not rude. I can't really explain it. Always liked ModCup, really great to see it open in Journal Square. Coffee is amazing and the decor is really nice and relaxing. So far its been a soft-opening, waiting for them to figure everything out and have an actual menu. A little expensive for a daily cup of coffee but they really make a damn good one. read more

They not only have solid coffee that has actual flavor, but they also have baristas who care and want you to have a great damn cup of coffee.
