I love Lackawanna!!!! This particular branch could use some of the "training" bestowed on the baristas at their warehouse location. The staff seem so low vibrational sometimes, I think they could use a hug. Most times when you visit another customer pleasantly greets or offers encouragement to other patrons. This is my go to spot for both coffee and pastries. So far I've had the chocolate scone, prosciutto and cheese croissant, waffle, and golden monkey bread. Each of these have been great but the monkey bread is by far my favorite. Drinks are good too, they're matcha is really well made. Located 2 min walk from Grove st path station, this cafe has been on my wishlist since a long time. The cafe is located in the basement which can cause a person to miss it completely by walking past it. The ambiance of the cafe is good, especially the outside seating area! They have a ping pong table at the back for the patrons and it feels like being seated in a country side setting! I loved the outdoor seating ( you can check from the pics others posted). The service was quick, wish they had some more items on the menu as their bakery options were limited on a Saturday morning rush hour! Really great coffee! I got a lattee with an extra shot of espresso, normally comes with 2 I added a third. It had a perfect strong flavor yet milky and delicious. I also got a cheddar scone which was very good. I warmed it once I got home (I'd suggest you ask them to warm - as it makes it so so good). Scone surprisingly had a kick to it. Finally made it back to Lackawanna! This is one of my favorite coffee shops in JC to just hang out at, get work done, grab and go... literally whatever. Their coffee is strong (so is their wifi), the back patio is what dreams are made of and the baristas are always so friendly and kind. Can't go wrong with a stop here! I usually get a latte, cappuccino or something a little more fun but their black coffee is also great. Hot, strong and flavorful. They have some indoor seating, a beautiful back patio that I loveeeee. Seriously the perfect place to hang out and work. They charge for refills which makes sense if people do like to hunker down here for awhile, but just a heads up if you are looking for a place to get that endless flow of joe. I didn't realize this cafe was hidden in a basement, so keep that in mind and don't walk past it like I did! I ordered an almond milk latte and an everything croissant to stay. But they only have paper cups and paper bags. The croissant was a little disappointing--the cream cheese makes it a bit stodgy. The latte was good, though a bit on the the thin side, and the barista who made it was quite friendly. The woman who took my order though was a bit stoic--no smiles there. Lackawanna is one of THE spots in JC for some good coffee. I came in once and walked out because they don't have soy milk (SAD, and also the reason why this review isn't a full five stars). But, I decided to give it a chance. I came in to try a macadamia milk iced latte. Not too many spots offer macadamia as an option, so if I was going to give Lackawanna a shot, it would be for this (since my go-to is an iced soy latte, but alas, they don't have). So...here are my thoughts...macadamia milk is...interesting. It tastes a bit watered down but the latte was decent. You can tell that their coffee is good (despite my milk choice). Prices are fair too. Next time I'll go for an oat milk latte since I know I'll like it. Service is good, but on a Sunday morning the line can get long. read more

Stumbled upon the coffee shop while walking home..never noticed it before with the walk down the stoop and love the outdoor seating in back for a quiet place to do work fo home stuff to change up the scenery. I welcome places like this since work from home needs change sometimes and love an outdoor seating due to COVID yet still intimate not all out in open. I got the iced black sesame latte and happy staff pointed out it had no caffeine so added a shot of espresso for the caffeine kick.. will be back on weekend for coffee grinds for my cold brew or pour over coffee i make at home.. nice to find another local spot with Asian influence hence black sesame and matcha and turmeric options!! 5 stars in my book!!! read more

During the summer, I go on loooonnnng bike rides. Lackawanna Coffee is my go-to for the early morning stop for a latte and a pastry. It's important to stay fueled! Great coffees, and love the pastries. My only complaint is that they often run out of the pastry goodness rather more than I'd prefer. Great little outdoor space in the back, a few tables inside. I'd love for them to include a self-service water station to allow for cyclists like me to quickly refill their water (would also help expedite patrons asking for a water with their coffee)! i've been back few more times since my initial review and just love this place! i switched things up and have gotten the iced and hot latte, the iced version is definitely the better one of the two. the coffee just seemed more pronounced and nuanced. the bf (who regularly drinks black coffee) has since been converted and is a huge fan of their iced dulce de leche latte. it really is a nice little treat! we've also tried the tokyo iced coffee and really enjoyed it too. great neighborhood spot! read more

Believe in the hype - this is some of the best coffee I've ever had. And trust me - I married into a family of Guatemalans and Colombians. We've been by a few times now to grab a coffee and I'm in love every single time. I get the Japanese-style iced coffee and it is perfect, chef's kiss. The coffee is smooth and not bitter at all. I love the taste of it! I love the sippy cup lids that they use - no straws = less plastic for the environment! Staff are friendly and very nice. They take Apple Pay, which is super convenient for me because I always forget my wallet at home when I'm out to grab a quick coffee! read more

Nice spot for coffee with three spots in JC to my knowledge. Lattes are $5.50/6 and come in unique flavors like: vanilla bean cinnamon, wildflower honey, pink (beetroot), and turmeric. With enough visits to JC, I am sure I can try them ALL! :) While the indoor and outdoor spaces are both small, at least they're nice... and if you're looking to sit outside, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a spot in their backyard patio! read more

I'm totally in love with Lackawanna! This is the type of coffee shop i like to support. Everything about it is inviting and inclusive. The signage they have up makes me want to support them even more. The type of coffee shop/business you'll find in San Francisco and parts of Los Angeles. It's a very large space for a coffee shop, with indoor and outdoor seating. The view from the patio is not bad either. The Flash brew is very smooth and delicious. I went in asking for a cold brew, but was offered something just as pleasant if not better. I had mine black as usual. I loved the "Hate Free Zone" sticker on the front door, and the "Men, women, and the rest of us" sign on the bathroom door. INCLUSIVITY is sexy. Lackawanna, you're sexy AF. Just saying.
